>> THIS IS THE VIRTUAL SPECIAL CALLED SCHOOL BOARD MEETING FOR JUNE 19, 2020.

[Call to Order]

WE ARE GOING TO CALL THE MEETING TO ORDER NOW AT 12:02 P.M.

SO I AM GOING TO START WITH ROLL CALL.

>> WE'RE GOING TO START THE MEETING WITH A MOMENT OF SILENCE.

>> OKAY.

THANK YOU, EVERYONE.

NOW IF I COULD GET A MOTION TO ADOPT THE AGENDA FOR TODAY?

[Item 3]

>> I MAKE A MOTION WE ADOPT THE AGENDA TODAY.

I BELIEVE I HEARD MISS GREENE WITH A MANAGES MOTION TO ADOPT AGENDA.

CALL FOR A VOTE.

>> AGENDA ADOPTED 9 0.

NEXT WE HAVE PUBLIC COMMENTS.

WE DIDN'T RECEIVE ANY TO BE ATTACHED TO THE BOARD MEETING TODAY.

BUT JUST REMIND PEOPLE IF THEY WOULD LIKE FOR IT TO BE ATTACHED TO THE MEETING, THIS IS A WAY TO COMMUNICATE WITH US AT VIRTUAL MEETINGS AND THERE'S A WAY TO DO THAT SO THE INFORMATION IS NOT ONLY SEEN BY BOARD MEMBERS BUT ANYONE VIEWING OUR AGENDA.

NEXT UP, WE HAVE THE T CONSENT CALENDAR.

[Consent Calendar]

IF I COULD GET A MOTION TO APPROVE THIS CONSENT CALENDAR?

>> I MOVE WE ADOPT THE CONSENT CALENDAR.

>> MOTION TO ADOPT THE CONSENT CALENDAR.

IS THERE ANYTHING TO REMOVE OR PULL?

>> MADAM CHAIR, I WOULD LIKE TO PULL THE APPOINTMENT OF DAPHNE DAVIS TO THE FLAG COMMITTEE, PLEASE.

>> OKAY.

NOW I'M PAUSING BUT THIS IS NO PAUSE NEEDED BECAUSE THERE'S NO ELECTRONIC WAY OF MAKING THAT HAPPEN.

WE'RE JUST GOING TO HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT AS WE GO ON.

NOW THAT IS IS PULLED.

SO I WILL CONTINUE TO VOTE ON THE REST OF THE ITEMS. I'LL CALL THE ROLL CALL.

CINDY ANDERSON, YES.

>> 9 0 TO ADOPT REMOVING THE ONE.

[00:05:02]

WE GO ON TO THE MOVED ITEM.

AND REMOVED ITEM AND MR. SUAREZ WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE A COMMENT?

[Item 13]

>> YES, I WOULD, CHAIR ANDERSON, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

BEFORE I SPEAK ABOUT THE APPOINTMENT OF MISS DAVIS FOR THE TECH COMMITTEE, I WOULD BE REMISS NOT TO ALSO MENTION, I THINK MY GRATITUDE AND I'M SURE THE BOARD'S GRATITUDE FOR THE DONATION WE PASSED IN THE CONSENT CALENDAR.

THE TECHNOLOGY NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS ARE ARE VITAL RIGHT NOW.

I'M VERY GRATEFUL FOR THAT DONATION.

I WANTED TO RECOGNIZE THAT.

THE REASON I PULLED MISS DENNERVILLE DAVIS FROM THE CONSENT CALENDAR.

I JUST WANTED TO EXPRESS MY EXCITEMENT FOR DR. DAVIS'S APPOINTMENT TO THE COMMITTEE.

SHE'S A SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST WITH A FOCUS ON SOCIOLINGUISTICS AND HAS A REMARKABLY RELEVANT BACKGROUND TO THE TAG COMMITTEE.

WHAT I'M MOST EXCITED ABOUT IS HER REASON FOR JOINING THE COMMITTEE.

HER GOAL IN JOINING IT IS INCREASING EQUITY AND GIFTED EDUCATION AND SERVICES.

SHE BELIEVES SAPS HAS A POTENTIAL TO BE A MODEL IN THE NATION'S CAPITAL.

TOO MANY BLACK, GIFTED LANGUAGE LEARNERS GO UNDERIDENTIFIED BECAUSE OF THE MEASURES WE USED IN FORM OF GENIUS AND BIAS AND THEY DON'T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THEIR MANY TALENTS.

SHE KNOWS THESE TRENDS ARE DISTURBING.

I AGREE.

THE THING THAT WAS MOST COMPELLING ABOUT HER APPLICATION TO THE COMMITTEE, SHE PROVIDES A PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE.

SHE'S AN AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN WITH DOCTORATE.

HER HIGH SCHOOL COUNSEL RECOMMENDED SHE ATTEND COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND BECOME A SECRETARY BECAUSE OF OUR SHE SCORED ON A TEST.

SHE BECAME A PH.D.

HER STORY EXEMPLIFIES EXACTLY WHY WE HAVE SO MUCH WORK TO DO IN THIS DIVISION, IN TAG, REALLY UNDERSTANDING WHAT WHAT WHAT GRIT IS, UNDERSTANDING ALL OF THE QUALITIES THAT MAKE SOMEONE SOMEONE WHO COULD BE SUCCESSFUL AND AGAIN HOLDING HIGH EXPECTATION FOR ALL LEARNERS.

SO, I'M JUST REALLY EXCITED ABOUT ABOUT DR. DENNERVILLE DAVIS'S APPOINTMENT TO THE COMMITTEE.

I THINK SHE'LL ADD INVALUABLE PERSPECTIVE, ESPECIALLY AT THIS TIME WHEN RACIAL CONVERSATIONS ARE HAPPENING.

I THINK IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT THAT EACH AND EVERY MEETING WE TALK ABOUT THE IMPERATIVE OF ADDRESSING THE SEGREGATION IN OUR DIVISION HEAD ON.

THAT'S UNFORTUNATELY EXEMPLIFIED IN THE TAG PROGRAM.

I'M EXCITED ABOUT HER APPOINTMENT, WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT THAT.

ALSO JUST WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT ONE OTHER THING, AS AN UPDATE TO THE BOARD FROM THE TAG MEETING THIS WEEK THAT JUST HAPPENED.

WE HAD OUR FIRST ZOOM VERSION OF THE TAG MEETING IN SEVERAL MONTHS AS A RESULT OF THE PANDEMIC.

AND JUST FOR THE BOARD'S EDIFICATION, I WANTED TO SAY IT WAS A REALLY GOOD MEETING.

I THINK THERE WAS SOME REAL CONVERSATIONS AROUND WHAT TAG MIGHT LOOK LIKE IN A POSTCOVID ERA AND I'M EXCITED THAT WE'RE HAVING THAT CONVERSATION.

THE COMMITTEE RESOLVED TO CONTINUE TO MEET OVER THE SUMMER TO REALLY THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX IN TERMS OF HOW WE CAN DELIVER INSTRUCTION TO STUDENTS.

ONE THING THAT CAME OUT OF THAT THAT I THINK THE BOARD WOULD BENEFIT FROM HEARING, WE TALKED ABOUT HOW IN THIS POSTCOVID ERA, EDUCATION HAS BECOME MORE OF A SERVICE THAN A PLACE.

YOU KNOW, A LOT OF TIMES PEOPLE THINK OF EDUCATION, YOU'RE IN A PLACE IN THE BUILDING.

IN LIGHT OF THE COVID 19 SITUATION, I PERSONALLY THINK WE SHOULD BE CONCEPTUALIZING EDUCATION AS MORE OF A SERVICE.

THAT MEANS MAYBE PROVIDING TAG SERVICES OR OTHER SERVICES THAT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN AFFORDED TO THE GENERAL POPULATION.

HOW DO WE PROVIDE THOSE SERVICES MORE BROADLY SO ALL KIDS HAVE ACCESS TO THESE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES.

THAT'S FOOD FOR THOUGHT THAT CAME OUT OF THE MEETING, THE FOCUS OF WHY I PULLED THIS IS BECAUSE OF DR. DENNERVILLE DAVIS WHO I'M EXCITED ABOUT.

I FIGURED I WOULD USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE THE POINT ABOUT TAG AND HOW WE

[00:10:03]

CONCEPTUALIZE IN THIS UNIQUE SITUATION AND WE USE THIS AS SPRING BOARD TO MAKE THINGS STRONGER IN THE DIVISION.

WITH THAT I YIELD BACK.

>> OKAY.

GREAT.

THANK YOU.

THOSE WERE GREAT POINTS.

I DID NOTICE AND I WAS EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

I WAS GOING TO MENTION IT IN MY REPORT.

I STILL WILL MAYBE, IN CASE PEOPLE TURN IN LATER AND BECAUSE WE CAN THANK THEM MULTIPLE TIMES.

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE A COMMENT ABOUT THE PULLED ITEM?

>> IF I COULD, MADAM CHAIR, >> I'M ACTUALLY, THANKS FOR THAT I WAS EXCITED TO SEE HER NAME AND HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET HER LAST WEEK RANDOMLY.

I SORT OF GOT PULLED INTO SOME DISCUSSIONS WITH SOME MOMS AT MT.

VERNON THAT WERE ABLE TO FIGURE OUT ANTI RACIST WORK THEY COULD DO WITH THE STUDENTS.

I JUST WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT SHE IS DEFINITELY AN AMAZING CHOICE.

HER PERSPECTIVE WILL BE INVALUABLE.

SHE'S REAL AND RAW WHICH I THINK IS NECESSARY AT THIS TIME.

IF I CAN PUBLICLY SAY, THANK YOU, DAPHNE, I'M EXCITED TO HAVE HER HER ON THIS ENDEAVOR.

AWESOME.

>> OKAY.

ANYONE ELSE? IF NOT, THEN WE NEED, WE NEED TO STILL MAKE A MOTION NOW TO PUT THIS WONDERFUL PORTION ON THE COMMITTEE.

YOU DON'T WANT TO FORGET THAT.

>> I MAKE THE MOTION TO ADD DR. DERNVILLE DAVIS TO THE COMMITTEE.

>> MISS GREENE SECONDS MR. SUAREZ'S MOTION.

I'LL CALL FOR A VOTE AND ANSWER WHEN I CALL YOUR NAME.

I'LL GO THROUGH THE LIST AND MISS NEILSEN CAN TELL ME WHAT TO DO.

>> OKAY.

MISS NEILSEN, WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT MISS SORBER? TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES.

SHE'S UNABLE TO HEAR WHAT WE'RE SEEING.

>> YEAH.

SHE SAID SHE CAN'T HEAR ANYONE.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE CAN DO.

SHOULD SHE TRY TO RECONNECT.

>> YEAH, I'M REACHING OUT TO HER RIGHT NOW.

[Item 12]

>> GOOD.

THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT.

NOW ON TO OLD BUSINESS.

AND THIS IS THIS IS THIS EXCITING OLD BUSINESS.

I WANTED TO IT IS THE RESOLUTION CONDEMNING SYSTEMATIC RACISM AND OUR COMMITMENT FOR EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL.

ONCE AGAIN, I WANT TO THANK MY COLLEAGUES.

I WANT TO THANK MISS THORNTON FOR STARTING THIS AND EVERYONE THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THIS AND AS AN EXTRA YOU KNOW WONDERFUL THING IS THAT THIS IS NOW GOING TO BE VOTED ON TODAY ON ON I THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS GOING ON WITH MY SCREEN, A SIGNIFICANT DAY.

IT IS REALLY NICE TO T COMMIT OURSELVES TO THESE TO THIS RESOLUTION ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY.

SO BEFORE WE HAVE WE HAVE ACTUALLY, WE CAN HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND AND THEN IF ANYBODY WANTS TO SAY SOMETHING, I WILL ASK FOR COMMENT.

>> MADAM CHAIR, I MOVE THAT WE ADOPT THE RESOLUTION.

>> MISS GREENE >> MIS THORNTON.

>> IT WAS MISS GREENE.

EITHER ONE WORKS.

>> MY SCREEN WAS TAKEN UP.

>> I SAW MISS THORNTON'S LIPS MOVE ON THE SCREEN.

[00:15:05]

>> EITHER WORKS.

>> IT IS LIKE THE BUZZER ON JEOPARDY.

OKAY.

SO NOW WE HAVE A MOTION, MISS GENTRY MADE THE MOTION AND MISS GREENE SECONDED.

ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO SAY ANYTHING AT THIS POINT IN TIME? I HAVE MISS ALDERTON'S HAND UP.

>> SORRY.

I THINK I JUST DIDN'T PUT MY HAND DOWN.

>> OH, SORRY.

OKAY.

SO DOES ANYONE HAVE HAVE ANY DISCUSSION ABOUT IT OR WE CAN JUST GO AHEAD.

THERE WAS THERE WAS A LOT OF BACK AND FORTH WITH PEOPLE AND WE READ IT LAST WEEK FOR THOSE OF YOU IN THE PUBLIC THAT DON'T THAT DON'T WEREN'T HERE LAST WEEK, WE READ IT ALOUD LAST WEEK.

SEEING NONE, I'LL CALL FOR THE VOTE.

>> OKAY.

THANK YOU EVERYONE.

THERE WAS ACTUALLY A MEDIA THING FROM COMMUNICATIONS THAT THAT THAT THAT WAS REVISED YET AND SENT OUT YESTERDAY TO TO THE TO THE NEWS TO THE NEWS MEDIA.

OKAY, NOW WE'RE GOING ON TO OUR NEW BUSINESS.

THE FIRST ITEM UP IS SOCIAL STUDIES TEXTBOOK ADOPTION.

[Item 14]

SO I WILL TURN IT OVER TO DR. HUTCHINGS.

>> THANK YOU MADAM CHAIR.

I'M EXCITED ABOUT TO TALK ABOUT THE SOCIAL STUDIES ADOPTION, ESPECIALLY AS WE TALK ABOUT HISTORY AND ANYTHING A REAL HISTORY IN OUR SCHOOLS.

BUT I'M NOT GOING TO THROW THIS OVER.

I'LL TURN IT OVER TO DOCTOR TO INTRODUCE IT TODAY.

DOCTOR?

>> GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYONE, THANK YOU DR. HUTCHINS.

I LIKE TO INTRODUCE MISS SARAH WHELAN WHO IS OUR INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALIST FOR SOCIAL STUDIES.

SHEIL DESCRIBE THE PROCESS AND MATERIALS AND THE LEVEL OF ENGAGEMENT.

AT THIS TIME, SARAH WHELAN.

>> THANK YOU, DOCTOR.

THANK YOU SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS.

I THINK TANIA IS GOING TO SHARE THE SLIDE.

THERE WE GO.

SO WE GET STARTED OUR CENTRAL QUESTIONS ARE TO THINK ABOUT OUR PROCESS AND WHY WE'RE LOOKING AT NEW TEXTBOOKS RIGHT NOW AND THE PROCESS WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH SO FAR.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE MATERIALS THAT WE'RE RECOMMENDING AND THE NEXT STEP.

AS WE GET STARTED, I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP IN MIND THE TEXTBOOK IS NOT THE CURRICULUM, IT IS ONE RESOURCE THAT WE HAVE AND IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT THAT OUR OUR CURRICULUM IS MORE INCLUSIVE AND EXPANDS BEYOND THE STANDARD OF LEARNING AND THE TEXTBOOK RESOURCES AND INCORPORATES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EQUIPPING OUR TEACHERS TO BE ABLE TO TEACH EFFECTIVELY.

SO WE'LL WE'LL TALK MORE ABOUT THAT.

SO IN TERMS OF WHERE WE ARE IN THIS PROCESS AND HOW WE GOT HERE, AS YOU KNOW, TEXTBOOKS WERE SHIFTED TO A C.I.P.

BUDGET TO MAKE SURE WE STAY ON THE CONSISTENT REVIEW AND ADOPTION SCHEDULE.

WE APPROVE NEW STANDARDS FOR SOCIAL STUDIES IN 2015 AND REVIEWED TEXTBOOKS IN 17 18.

LAST YEAR WE WENT AHEAD AND PURCHASED WE DID A TEXTBOOK REVIEW PROCESS FOR THIRD AND FOURTH GRADE.

WE HAD AN URGENT PRIORITY THERE.

THEY WERE OUT OF ALIGNMENT WITH STANDARD.

LAST YEAR WE DID THIRD AND FOURTH GRADE TO THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR.

NOW THE FOCUS OF THIS ADOPTION, IT IS 6 THROUGH 12, EXCUSE ME, K THROUGH 2 AND SIX THROUGH 12.

CAN YOU MAKE THE SLIDE FULL SCREEN.

THANKS.

>> TONYA IF YOU HAVE A SECOND MONITOR, IT MAY DISPLAY ON THE SECOND MONITOR.

>> I'LL TAKE IT OUT.

>> I'LL TAKE IT OUT, SORRY.

>> THIS BETTER.

>> THANK YOU.

>> A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR PROCESS THAT STARTED IN THE FALL AND OBVIOUSLY IT LIKE

[00:20:08]

EVERYBODY ELSE WE HAD A PROCESS LAID OUT A PLANS CHANGED WITH THE SCHOOL BUILDINGS CLOSED.

WE STARTED TO REVIEW OUR CRITERIA FOR THE BOOK AND STARTED TO GET A SENSE OF WHAT IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AND WHAT WE HAD APPROVED.

AND THEN WE ORGANIZED A PROCESS.

WE HAD APPROVED ADDITIONAL RESOURCES AND WE ORGANIZED OUR TEXTBOOK SELECTION COMMITTEE THAT WOULD REVIEW THE BOOK BY GRADE LEVEL.

WE REACHED OUT TO IDENTIFY TEACHERS TO SERVE ON THIS TEAM.

WE RECEIVED THE MATERIALS, WE ORGANIZED THE COMMITTEES AND STARTED TO REVIEW THEM.

THOSE MEETINGS CONTINUED AFTER THE SCHOOL CLOSURES.

WE HAD VIRTUAL MEETINGS.

MEMBERS WERE TO GATHER MORE FEEDBACK AND BRING THAT TO THE REVIEW COMMITTEE.

SO FROM HERE WE'RE PUTTING FORTH OUR RECOMMENDATION.

AS THE PROCESS CONTINUES, WE'LL CONTINUE WITH THE PROCUREMENTS AND PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO TEACHERS.

NEXT SLIDE.

A LITTLE ABOUT THE SELECTION COMMITTEES, WE HAD TWO COMMITTEES.

BOTH COMMITTEES HAD CLASSROOM TEACHERS AND GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHERS AS WELL AS SPECIALIZED EDUCATION TEACHERS.

WE ALSO HAD INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALISTS FROM THE CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION DEPARTMENT.

WE HAD AN ENGLISH LEARNER SPECIALIST AND REPRESENTATIVES FROM FROM TAG AND HONORS.

WE HAD A TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION SPECIALIST TO THINK ABOUT THE DIGITAL PART OF THE RESOURCES ON THE INSTRUCTIONAL SIDE AND ALSO SOMEBODY FROM THE TECHNICAL SIDE TO MAKE SURE THAT WHATEVER WE'RE LOOKING AT WAS COMPATIBLE WITH OUR CURRENT SYSTEMS, ESPECIALLY ON CAMPUS.

THE CRITERIA THAT WE HAD IDENTIFIED THAT WAS SPECIFICALLY IMPORTANT FOR US TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY WERE ALIGNED WITH THE STANDARDS OF LEARNING FOR SURE, AND IT WAS IMPORTANT TO US THAT THE MATERIALS PROMOTE SOCIAL STUDY SKILLS AND NOT JUST DELIVER CONTENT.

I THINK IT WOULD ENGAGE STUDENT IN INQUIRY AND ANALYZING THAT AND LOOKING AT PRIME OTHER SOURCES AND ORGANIZING AND PRESENTING INFORMATION IN THE SKILLS THAT ARE CRUCIAL TO SOCIAL STUDIES.

WE ALSO LOOKED AT THE AT THE ADAPTABILITY FOR OUR RANGE OF LEARNERS TO MAKE SURE THE RESOURCES PROVIDED SUPPORT FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

WE ALSO LOOKED AT THE QUALITY OF THE DIGITAL RESOURCES TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT THE DIGITAL SIDE OF THE RESOURCES OFFERED SOMETHING ADDITIONAL AND THEY WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO RESOURCES.

WE LOOKED TO EVALUATE THE RESOURCES ON THEIR CONSIDERATION AND MORE PERSPECTIVES AND AN INCLUSIVE STORY.

GO AHEAD.

SO IN TERMS OF WHAT THE COMMITTEE ACTUALLY RECOMMENDED, YOU HAVE A FULL LIST, I'LL BRIEFLY GIVE YOU A COUPLE OF HIGHLIGHTS.

FOR K2 THE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED THAT WE ADD ON TO WHAT WE DID LAST YEAR AND SHE'S THE SAME PUBLISHER THAT WE HAD FOR THIRD AND FOURTH GRADE.

SOME OF THE THINGS THEY RECOGNIZE THE STRENGTH OF THE MATERIALS AND THEIR STRONG ALIGNMENT WITH THE STANDARDS OF LEARNING.

THEIR FLEXIBILITY IN TERMS OF USING THE RESOURCES FOR SKILLS AND DOING INTEGRATION INTO THE EARLY GRADES BETWEEN SOCIAL STUDIES AND LITERACY AND THE FACT THEY INCLUDED PERFORMANCE BASED ASSESSMENTS THAT TEACHERS THOUGHT WOULD BE USEFUL IN THEIR CLASSROOM.

6 THROUGH 12 THERE WAS ONE VENDOR THAT LED THE WAY HERE AND SO FOR GRADE SIX THROUGH 7 AND NINE THROUGH 12 THERE WAS MAKING NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENGAGEMENT.

THEY DID NOT HAVE AN OFFERING.

THAT WAS A DIFFERENT CHOICE.

FOR NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC THE STRENGTHS WERE ONLINE MATERIALS THAT WERE FLEXIBLE AND ADAPTABLE AND COULD BE MODIFIED, READING LEVEL WITHIN THAT EASILY AND A LOT OF TEACHER GUIDANCE AND VIDEOS AND INTERACTIVE VIDEOS ONLINE.

EVERYTHING THAT THAT WE HAD TO REVIEW PEOPLE FELT STRONGLY THESE BOOKS WERE THE MOST INCLUSIVE OF TELLING A COMPLEX HISTORY, AT THE WORLD HISTORY LEVEL, THEY THOUGHT IT DID BETTER JOB THAN OTHER CHOICES TEACHING AS WORLD HISTORY AND EUROPEAN HISTORY WITH A LITTLE BIT OF THE REST OF THE WORLD.

[00:25:02]

IN THE AMERICAN HISTORY BOOK, TELLING A COMPLEX STORY THAT THAT TOLD THE TRUTH ABOUT TOUGH HISTORICAL THINGS BUT ALSO IN TALKING ABOUT MARGINAL THAT WASN'T THE ONLY STORY, THERE WAS STORIES OF CULTURAL CELEBRATION IN SOME BOOKS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COUNTRY THAT FELT LIKE A GOOD REPRESENTATION.

FOR THE ADVANCE PLACEMENT BOOK, THEY WERE MORE VARIED.

WE HAD TEAMS THAT REVIEWED THOSE AND PUT THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS OF WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST FIT FOR EACH OF THOSE AP COURSES.

RIGHT NOW, SO, WE HAVE PROVIDED A PROCESS FOR PUBLIC REVIEW, AS REQUIRED BY OUR POLICIES TO TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO REVIEW AND COMMENT ON THE TEXTBOOKS.

WE HAVE SET THAT UP GIVEN OUR CURRENT CONDITIONS ONLINE SO PEOPLE CAN LOG IN AND SEE THE MATERIALS AND THOSE INSTRUCTIONS ARE AVAILABLE AND THEN WE ALSO KNOW THAT THAT MAY NOT BE AN OPTION.

SOME PEOPLE MAY WANT TO SEE THEM IN PERSON.

WE HAVE SET UP A PROCESS AT THE TEXTBOOK WAREHOUSE WHERE WE'LL BE ADHERING TO TEMPERATURE SCREENING AND PEOPLE CAN SET UP AN APPOINTMENT THERE.

THAT PROCESS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH JUNE 30TH.

THEN OUR NEXT STEPS, AS I SAID, IT IS TO CONTINUE THE PUBLIC REVIEW AND AND ANSWER AND RESPOND TO ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE AND THEN FROM THERE WE WOULD INITIATE THE PROCUREMENT PROCESS AND START PURCHASING MATERIALS.

THE PRIORITY IS FOR A DIGITAL RESOURCES TO MAKE SURE THOSE ARE UP AND RUNNING BY THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR.

AND THEN LIST DECISIONS ABOUT FURTHER DELIVERY OF PRINT MATERIALS TO HAPPEN AFTER THAT.

ALSO THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER WE'LL BE PLANNING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO MAKE SURE TEACHERS ARE FAMILIAR AND KNOW HOW TO USE RESOURCES.

WE HAVE A DAY SET ASIDE BEFORE THE SCHOOL YEAR STARTS AND THAT TRAINING WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE YEAR ON OUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS AND ALSO IN SMALLER GROUPS AS NEEDED THROUGH WEBINARS AND INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT AT THE TLC OR THE SCHOOL LEVEL AND TO HELP TEACHERS ACCESS THE RESOURCES AND MAKE SURE THEY USE THEM IN CIRCLES AND MAKE SURE THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT INCLUDES ADMINISTRATORS AND EVERYBODY THAT NEEDS TO BE INVOLVED TO MAKE SURE THIS PROCESS CAN BE SUPPORTED.

SO I THINK THAT'S IT.

I'M HAPPY TO TAKE QUESTIONS NOW.

>> DOCTOR?

>> NICE JOB, WE JUST WANT TO OPEN IT UP IF IT IS OKAY FOR ANY QUESTIONS THAT THE BOARD MIGHT HAVE.

>> GREAT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT PRESENTATION.

I SEE SOME HANDS AND TAKE THEM IN ORDER THAT THEY WERE RAISED.

MISS ALDERTON IS FIRST.

>> THANK YOU EVERYONE.

THANK YOU MISS WHELAN.

I I REALLY GLAD TO HEAR ABOUT THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GOING ALONG WITH THE TEXTBOOKS.

MY QUESTION ABOUT THAT IS DO WE KNOW IF THERE WILL BE OR CAN WE SORT OF REQUIRE SOME EMPHASIS WITH THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ON ACTUALLY I GUESS DIFFERENTIATING THE USE OF THE TEXTBOOK SO THAT YOU KNOW, IT AS THEY GET SOMETIMES IT IS HELPFUL FOR TEACHERS TO HAVE LIKE SOM SOME DIRECT INSTRUCTION I GUESS ON ON YOU KNOW, USING THE TEXTBOOK AS A DIFFERENTIATED RESOURCE.

LIKE YOU KNOW YOU CAN F ALL TIERS OF SUPPORT FOR KIDS.

USING THIS WITH THE ELLS AND HOW WOULD THIS WORK.

USING THIS FOR KIDS WITH DISABILITIES OR YOU KNOW KID WHO WHO WHO FOR EXAMPLE MAY HAVE WRITTEN EXPRESSION ISSUES, HOW WOULD THIS WORK.

JUST LIKE LIKE HEARING THAT SUPPORT, SO NOT ONLY LIKE THESE ARE THE COOL THINGS THAT THE TEXTBOOK OFFERS BUT HOW YOU CAN USE IT SUCCESSFULLY FOR ALL STUDENTS.

>> YES.

THANK YOU.

THAT'S THAT'S THAT WOULD BE A KEY PART IN THE PROCESS.

WHAT WAS REALLY NICE ABOUT THE PROS IS HAVING THOSE VOICES TOGETHER TO CHOOSE WHICH BOOKS.

I THINK HAVING THE EL INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALIST AND THE SPECIALIZED INSTRUCTION SPECIALISTS AND TEACHERS IN THOSE AREAS, THEY ALREADY TOOK OWNERSHIP OF THE FEATURES AND I THINK THEY'LL BE HELPFUL IN HELPING US DESIGN THAT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO MAKE SURE THE FEATURES ARE CLEAR AND TO MAKE SURE THOSE EXPERTS KNOW BEST.

WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE'RE ADAPTING THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OFFERED BY THE

[00:30:01]

VENDORS.

YEAH.

DEFINITELY BE A PART OF IT.

THANK YOU.

>> >> NEXT UP I HAVE DR. RIEF.

>> THANK YOU FOR THE PRESENTATION.

I SIGNED UP TO GO REVIEW THE BOOK, THE TEXTBOOK NEXT WEEK.

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT AS A HISTORY TEACHER MYSELF.

SOUND LIKE IT WAS A GREAT PROCESS.

I WAS INTERESTED IN, THERE WAS A COMMENT THAT YOU MADE THAT THE TEXTBOOK IS NOT THE CURRICULUM, AND YOU ALSO TALKED ABOUT ABOUT HOW JUST FOR ANYBODY THAT IS LISTENING AND NOT AWARE THE CITY COUNCIL WAS INTERESTED IN US MOVING TEXTBOOKS TO THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT BUDGET BECAUSE IT WAS ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT WASN'T ALWAYS GETTING CUT OUT OF THE BUDGET.

I'M CURIOUS ABOUT THAT.

I KNOW LAST YEAR, IT WAS IN THE CAPITAL BUDGET AND WE PURCHASED MASS TEXTBOOKS.

I NOTICED MY DAUGHTER'S MIDDLE SCHOOLTEACHER WASN'T RELYING ON THAT TEXTBOOK VERY MUCH.

AND IN ADDITION TO THAT, I HEARD FROM FROM PARENTS.

I THINK THIS IDEA THAT THE TEXTBOOK IS NOT THE CURRICULUM, I THINK THAT PARENTS MIGHT STILL FEEL LIKE THE TEXTBOOK IS THE CURRICULUM, SO WHEN THEY'RE IN THE SEEING TEXTBOOKS, TEXTBOOKS CAN REALLY, IF THEY COME HOME WITH A STUDENT, IT COULD HELP THE PARENT TO SUPPORT BECAUSE THEY HAVE A BETTER SENSE OF WHAT THE CHILD IS LEARNING AND THEY CAN KIND OF WALK THROUGH A TEXTBOOK WHEREAS SOME OF THE ONLINE MATERIAL I THINK IS PARENTS COULD GET A LITTLE MORE DETACHED I GUESS FROM THAT.

SO MY QUESTION IS JUST HOW HOW CAN WE HOW CAN WE MAKE SURE AND KNOW THAT TEACHERS ARE REALLY USING THE TEXTBOOKS.

IS THERE DATA THAT YOU'RE COLLECTING.

I'M CURIOUS ABOUT POSTPURCHASE DATA IN TERMS OF LIKE AFTER THE FIRST YEAR, LIKE WHAT KIND OF FEEDBACK YOU GET ON IT.

BUT ALSO YOU KNOW, IF THERE'S ANY PLOT GIVEN TO, SINCE THE ONLINE AND PHYSICAL TEXTBOOKS ARE BUNDLED TOGETHER WAS THERE A WAY IT MAYBE SEND THE PHYSICAL TEXTBOOKS HOME.

I DON'T KNOW IF THEY WERE CONSUMABLE BOOKS OR NOT.

THINKING THROUGH THESE ISSUES I LOVE TO HEAR YOUR FEEDBACK AND I WAS CURIOUS WHAT IS THE LIFE SPAN.

ONCE YOU PURCHASE THESE SOCIAL STUDIES TEXTBOOKS FOR THESE GRADES WHEN WOULD WE HAVE TO PURCHASE THEM AGAIN?

>> I THINK AM I FROZEN? AM I WORKING NOW?

>> YES, YOU WORKING NOW.

>> OKAY.

OKAY.

WERE YOU COMMENTS.

>> YOU'LL DO IT, KEEP GOING.

>> THANK YOU.

>> I WILL TRY TO ANSWER THE PRESENT QUESTION IF I CAN AND OTHERS FEEL FREE TO JUMP IN.

I DO THINK, YOU'RE RIGHT THE TEXTBOOK CAN HELP GROUND A FAMILY IN HELPING TO UNDERSTAND.

I KNOW SOME OF OUR TEXTBOOKS WILL OFFER A NEWSLETTER AT HOME THAT TEACHERS CAN COPY AND SHARE WHAT THE FOCUS THE CURRENT UNIT OF STUDY IS AND THAT COULD BE A WAY.

WE DO PLAN TO ORDER ENOUGH BOOKS, PRINT BOOKS THAT A BOOK COULD BE SENT HOME.

IF A CHILD HAS AN IEP AND NEED THE BOOK AT HOME OR BY REQUEST, WE HAVE TYPICALLY FOUND THAT IF WE HAVE ONE PRINT BOOK PER STUDENT, THEY'RE JUST NOT USED.

WE DON'T WE DON'T HAVE ANY NEED FOR THAT.

I THINK WE COULD EXPLORE AND HAVE OTHER CONVERSATIONS ABOUT WHAT WE WANT TO PROVIDE.

AS THE BOOKS BECOME MORE A THESE RESOURCES BECOME MORE RICH WITH ONLINE MATERIALS THAT A LOT OF A LOT OF THE ENGAGEMENT HAPPENING THERE WITH STUDENTS READING AND RESPONDING ONLINE.

WE COULD USE ADDITIONAL TRAIN FOR WORK THAT IS DONE THROUGH THE PSA AND SCHOOL BASED MEETINGS TO HELP PARENTS KNOW WHAT RESOURCES ARE AVAILABLE.

I THINK WHERE WE'RE ON THE SAME PAGE AND TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS AND INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF IS IMPORTANT.

>> I WOULD REITERATE WHAT SHE JUST SAID.

THAT IS THE FACT IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO MAKE SURE WE'RE PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING.

I THINK WHAT HAPPENS IS I PREVIOUSLY IS THAT WE MAY HAVE ADOPTED TEXTBOOKS LIKE AS A GIFT WITH NO TRAINING.

YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO UTILIZE IT.

I THINK US HAVING THESE TRAINING SESSIONS AND ALSO MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING.

HOW DO YOU USE THE TEXTBOOK WITH THE CURRICULUM.

AND THAT IS GOING TO I BELIEVE HAVE TEACHERS FEEL MORE CONFIDENT IN USING IT

[00:35:03]

IN THE CLASSROOM.

THAT REALLY WAS A MISSED OPPORTUNITY IN PREVIOUS ADOPTIONS.

IT WAS IT WAS NOT THAT WE DIDN'T OFFER IT.

IT WAS JUST OFFERED AND WE CHOSE TO SIGN UP FOR IT.

IT WASN'T SOMETHING WE'RE REQUIRED TO DO, WHEN WE'RE SPENDING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO PURCHASE TEXTBOOKS, THEY CAN'T BE SITTING ON A BOOKSHELF OR CLOSET BECAUSE THEY'RE ALIGNED WITH THE STANDARDS AND THEY'RE ALIGNED WITH THE APS CURRICULUM.

THEY DO PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL RESOURCES ONLINE AND IS HELPFUL FOR THE FAMILIES AND STUDENTS.

AND WE REALLY NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, LAYING OUT HOW OUR PARENTS CAN USE THE DIFFERENT TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCES THAT WE HAVE IN THE SCHOOL DIVISION.

WE'RE GIVING THEM SOME INSIGHT BECAUSE WE'RE SOMETIMES WE ASSUME PARENTS KNOW.

PARENTS ARE NOT EDUCATORS.

THEY DIDN'T GO TO SCHOOL OF EDUCATION TO GET DEGREES TO BE TEACHERS.

THERE'S A WAY THAT WE CAN PROVIDE SOME GUIDANCE AND TRAINING FOR OUR FAMILIES TO KNOW HOW TO USE IT AT HOME.

>> CAN I FOLLOW UP WITH A QUICK, I WANTED TO MENTION A QUICK STORY THAT ILLUSTRATES WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.

THE PARENT SHARED WITH ME THAT HER SON WHO WAS IN A MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE CLASS, LIKE I'VE SEEN THIS WITH KIDS TODAY THAT THEY SINCE THEY'RE NOT AS GROUNDED IN TEXTBOOKS, THEY WANT TO GOOGLE EVERYTHING.

WHEN THEY'RE STRUGGLING WITH AN ASSIGNMENT THEY WANT TO GOOGLE THE ANSWER.

THE PARENT HAS GOTTEN A COPY OF THE TEXTBOOK, LET'S LOOK AT THE TEXTBOOK.

WHEN THE CHILD WENT AND LOOKED, THERE'S ALL THIS INFORMATION IN HERE.

STUDENTS NEED IT UNDERSTAND HOW GREAT THESE RESOURCES ARE AND IT IS ALL KIND OF IT BUILDS TOGETHER.

GOOGLING SOMETHING, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO FIND THE KIND OF INFORMATION THAT YOU NEED THAT YOU COULD FIND IN A TEXTBOOK.

WANT TO MAKE SURE WE'RE GETTING THE MOST OF OUR MONEY.

I WANT TO ADD TO DR. RIEF'S QUESTION, WHEN WE PURCHASE MATERIALS, IT IS EVERY SEVEN YEARS IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA.

THE ADVANTAGE BY HAVING FUNDING WITHIN THE C.I.T.

IT WILL ENABLE US TO GET BACK ON TRACK WITH THE STATE AND BE ALIGNED WITH THE STANDARDS AND THE RESOURCES AND MATERIALS AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENTS ALSO.

>> THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR THE QUESTION AND ANSWERS.

VERY INFORMATIVE.

MR. SUAREZ IS UP NEXT.

>> THANK YOU.

I THINK MY COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS BUILD OFF OF WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN DISCUSSED.

I DEFINITELY WANT TO ECHO WHAT YOU SAID, DR. HUTCHINS, THE NEED TO NOT JUST ADOPT TEXTBOOKS BUT TRAIN TEACHERS.

TWO QUESTIONS, ONE BUY IN AND THEN FILLING IN THE GAPS.

I HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK AT THE TEXTBOOKS ONLINE THROUGH THE LINKS THAT YOU SENT.

I WAS LOOKING.

THERE'S A SECTION THAT TALKS ABOUT TEN GREAT LEADERS AND ONE OF THE LEADERS IS COLUMBUS AND ONE IS MLK.

I SCRUTINIZED THAT, WHAT DOES THIS TEXTBOOK DO ABOUT COLUMBUS.

HE'S A CONTROVERSIAL FIGURE AND THE TEXTBOOK HAS A BOX, IT SAYS HE WAS NOT KIND MAN, HE TREATED THE AMERICAN INDIANS POORLY.

IT RECOGNIZES HE WAS NOT A GOOD GUY.

THE MLK SECTION TALKS ABOUT HE WAS A CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER AND DID PEACEFUL PROTESTING AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS WAS PASSED AND WE STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO.

THERE'S SOME TEXTBOOKS THAT WOULDN'T ACKNOWLEDGE THOSE THINGS AT ALL.

THOSE WOULD BE ELIMINATED FROM OUR LIST ENTIRELY.

THERE'S NO PERFECT TEXTBOOK.

I THINK YOU KNOW, I THINK SOME OF THE QUESTIONS SOME OF THE TEXTBOOKS MIGHT HAVE GAPS IN TERMS OF THE OF THE VALUES WE HOLD IN ALEXANDRIA.

THE FACT THAT WE WANT OUR KID TO UNDERSTAND, AS YOU SAID DR. HUTCHINS THE FULL HISTORY AND SO FORTH.

I'M WONDERING IF PART OF THE PD WE'RE DOING IS GOING TO HAVE TEACHERS SORT OF WALK THROUGH THE TEXTBOOKS, LOOK AT MAYBE GAPS THAT THAT YOU KNOW, THAT NEED TO BE FILLED SO THAT SO THAT SO THE FULL HISTORY IS UNDERSTOOD.

GRADE LEVEL APPROPRIATE.

I QUOTED FROM A SECOND GRADE TEXTBOOK.

I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO GO IN DETAIL ABOUT COLUMBUS IN SECOND GRADE.

YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THAT AND I'M WONDERING IF THAT'S A VEHICLE PERHAPS TO BUILD BUY IN AMONG STAFF FOR THE NEW TEXTBOOKS AS WELL TO SORT OF GET THEM EXCITED ABOUT THE

[00:40:07]

NEW TEXTBOOKS, EXCITED ABOUT THE WAY ALEXANDRIA, CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS IS GOING TO APPROACH APPROACH THE CURRICULUM AND SO FORTH.

THAT SORT OF ONE ONE SORT OF THEME OF MY QUESTION THAT I'M CURIOUS ABOUT HOW WE'RE THINKING ABOUT THAT.

THE SECOND ONE IS SORT OF RELATED TO DR. RIEF'S QUESTION ABOUT MAILING THE TEXTBOOKS BUT MORE GENERALLY ABOUT COVID 19 AND HOW WE'RE HANDLING THIS.

OBVIOUSLY LIKE I SAID, I WAS ABLE TO LOOK AT THE TEXTBOOKS ONLINE AND THEY'RE AN ONLINE RESOURCE TO LOOK AT ON THE COMPUTER SCREEN.

I'M WONDERING HOW MUCH ARE WE TRAINING THE TEACHERS TO KNOW ABOUT THAT OPTION AND BEING ABLE TO INSURE THAT KIDS IF THEY'RE ABLE TO RECEIVE THE MAILED COPY TO LOOK AT THE TEXTBOOK AND BEING ABLE TO ENGAGE IN A MEANINGFUL WAY.

I DO THINK IN LIGHT OF COVID, WE HAVE SORT OF NEW OBLIGATIONS IN TERMS OF OF AGAIN GOING BACK TO THE THING ABOUT SERVICE EARLIER, PROVIDING A SERVICE WHERE EVERYONE CAN ACCESS THIS MATERIAL.

JUST CURIOUS WHAT YOUR THOUGHTS WERE.

>> FOR PART ONE, FOR FILLING THE GAPS I THINK THAT'S CRUCIAL.

SOMEBODY ALREADY REFERENCED OUR CURRICULUM IN CANVAS, THAT'S PART OF THE WORK.

THE CURRICULUM UNITS THAT WE HAVE LAID OUT AND SAY HERE'S SOME GOOD RESOURCES.

THEY DON'T DO A GOOD JOB WITH THIS TOPIC.

HERE'S AN ADDITIONAL RESOURCE THAT HELPS TELL A COMPLETE STORY.

I THINK A BIG PART OF IT IS BUILDING THE SKILLS OF TEACHERS AND STUDENTS TO READ IT CRITICALLY AND WHAT IS MISSING HERE.

BUILDING THAT CAPACITY IN TEACHERS TO HELP STUDENTS DO THAT.

EVERY TEXTBOOK WE HAVE SOMETHING.

EVERY TEXTBOOK IS MISSING A STORY OR WRITTEN TO TELL A STORY.

NONE OF IT IN NEUTRAL.

THERE'S ALWAYS A PERSPECTIVE HAD, GETTING STUDENTS TO CRITIQUE THAT.

I THINK THAT'S WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DEVELOP IN OUR SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS.

AGAIN WE TEACH THOSE SKILLS.

WE'RE DOING OTHER THINGS IN ADDITION TO THE TEXTBOOK.

STUDENTS ARE ANALYZING TEXT AND WRITING ABOUT THEM.

WE HOPE THOSE SKILLS THAT THEY'RE DEVELOPING WILL CROSS OVER.

I THINK IT IS THE WORK OF WRITING THE CURRICULUM TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE ADDITIONAL RESOURCES FOR ANYTHING MISSING FROM THE TEXTBOOK, IT IS MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE BUILDING OUR SKILLS THROUGH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ENCOURAGING THE CONVERSATIONS THAT WE'RE STARTING TO HAVE NOW AT THE SCHOOL WITH ADMINISTRATORS.

I THINK THIS IS HELPING SUPPORT TEACHERS IN KNOWING THAT THAT THEY WILL BE SUPPORTED IF THEY TEACH SOMETHING THAT IS MAYBE NOT IN THE TEXTBOOK OR IS NOT IN THE STANDARDS OF LEARNING EXACTLY AS THEY'RE WRITTEN.

IF IT IS SOMETHING WE IDENTIFIED AS IMPORTANT TOPIC.

ONE THING I LOOK AT IS HOW CAN WE TELL MORE ALEXANDRIA STORIES.

IT HAPPENED HERE.

EVERY KEY ISSUE IN AMERICAN HISTORY HAS HAPPENED RIGHT HERE.

WE ARE MAKING SURE THAT THE TEACHERS KNOW THE STORIES AND CAN SHARE THEM WITH THE STUDENTS.

I THINK THAT BUY IN ABOUT SIDE BY SIDE WITH WORKERS AND ADDITIONAL RESOURCES AND CRITIQUING THE TEXTS.

I DO THINK THEY HAVE STARTED THE BUY IN THROUGH THE ADOPTION PROCESS.

WE HAVE TEACHERS WHO ARE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT ABOUT WHAT IS COMING ON.

I THINK OUR TECHNOLOGY HAS COME SO FAR IN TERMS OF BEING ABLE TO INTEGRATE WITH CLEVER PARTICULARLY ON AS A PARENT AND HOW GREAT THAT IS FOR A THIRD GRADER AND ALL THINGS TO BE THERE AND BE ABLE TO FIND THEM.

THE INTEGRATION THAT WE'LL USE WITH THE TEXTBOOK WILL MAKE IT MORE SEAMLESS FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS AND PARENTS TO KNOW IT IS THERE.

THE SECOND PART OF THE QUESTION WAS ABOUT HOW WE RESPOND IN TERMS OF THE PANDEMIC AND MAKE SURE WE GET MATERIALS TO STUDENTS AND NOW WE'RE WORKING ON EFFORTS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE CONNECTED DIGITALLY TO ALL OF OUR STUDENTS IT IS REALLY EXCITING.

I THINK FOR THOSE BOOKS THERE ARE SOME OPTIONS THAT WE COULD CONSIDER IN TERMS OF IF WE'RE NOT MAILING AN ACTUAL BOOK, AS WE HAVE DONE WITH THE PACKETS THROUGH THE SPRING, THERE'S PIECES WE COULD PULL OUT OF THAT TO INCLUDE IN MAILING HOME AND THAT EVERYBODY HAS ACCESS TO THAT.

THEN AGAIN INCLUDING OTHER RESOURCES OUTSIDE OF THE TEXTBOOKS IN THOSE LEARNING PACKETS I THINK IS IMPORTANT.

AGAIN IT IS A SECOND PART OF THE STORY.

I THINK IN TERMS OF THE RESPONSE, THE PRIORITY FIRST WOULD BE EVERYBODY GETS DIGITALLY SET UP AND THEN MOVE FORWARD WITH MANS AS WE KNOW MORE ABOUT WHEN WE'RE OPENING AND WHAT WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO WAREHOUSE AND STORE AND PRINT BOOKS SO WE COULD GET THEM INTO THE KID AND TEACHERS HAND.

DID THAT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION?

[00:45:01]

DO YOU HAVE MORE?

>> THAT'S GOOD.

THANKS.

>> WE'RE ON TO MISS NOLAN.

>> THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRESENTATION.

I WAS GOING TO ASK ABOUT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

I WANTED TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SAY SINCERE THANKS FOR YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP.

I DO HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN EDUCATION FOR 23 YEARS AND I HAVE A FRIEND OF MINE THAT IS HEAD OF SOCIAL STUDIES IN ANOTHER DIVISION IN THE METRO DIVISION.

SHE HAS CONCERN ABOUT HOW SOCIAL STUDIES HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED AS A SECTOR.

WE'RE FORTUNATE IN THIS DIVISION THAT THAT'S NOT THE CASE.

THANKS TO THE LEADERSHIP, I'VE HAD THE PLEASURE OF BEING AT NATIONAL HISTORY PRESENTATIONS THAT YOU DO.

THERE'S SO MANY THINGS THAT YOU PERSONALLY THANKS TO YOUR LEADERSHIP WEAVE IN THROUGHOUT ACPS THAT I THINK WE'RE FORTUNATE THAT THESE TEXTBOOKS HAVE BEEN USED IN OTHER OTHER JURISDICTIONS TO PAINT A NARRATIVE.

AND AND NOT NECESSARILY KIND OF GLOSS OVER SOME PRETTY TRYING TIMES THAT WITHOUT THAT TECHNOLOGY, IT IS IMPERATIVE TO HAVE THAT KNOWLEDGE.

I WANT IT THANK YOU IF YOUR LEADERSHIP FOR ALL YOU DO AND FOR AND FOR WHAT YOU DO.

ALSO IF IT IS IMPORTANT, I THINK DR. MANN IS ON THE ZOOM MEETING TOO.

HE ALWAYS MENTIONS YOUR DESIGN TEAM AND ALL THE WORK YOU'VE DONE.

YOU TAKE SERIOUSLY THAT BOTTOM LINE IN ALL OF OUR JOB DESCRIPTIONS, OTHER OTHER ITEMS.

>> ALL DUTIES ASSIGNED.

>> THANKS.

YOU REALLY TAKE THAT TO HEART BEING YOU HELPED OUT WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL.

I IMAGINE THAT THE EDUCATIONAL DESIGN TEAM IS IMPERATIVE AS WE FIGURE OUT.

I ALWAYS SAID AND I GET TO MENTION IT, IT IS SUCH PHENOMENAL TEACHERS THAT REALLY UNDERSTAND ON THE GROUND AND ALL OF THE DIFFERENT ACTIONS AND STUDENTS THAT ARE SERVED I IMAGINE DR. HUTCHINS SHOULD BE RELYING ON A PLAN AND THEY'LL HAVE HELPFUL FEEDBACK.

IN ADVANCE THANKS TO YOU AND DR. MANN AND ALL YOU DO.

I WANT TO ECHO MY THANKS AND SAY HOW IMPORTANT YOUR WORK IS AND HOW THANKFUL WE ARE FOR IT.

>> THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR EMBRACING THE IMPORTANCE OF SOCIAL STUDIES.

IT REALLY MATTERS.

>> THANK YOU.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT QUESTIONS.

I'M LISTENING TO THE CONVERSATION, I'M STILL REMINDED OF THE LIGHT SWITCH GOING ON WHEN WHEN SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER LIKE FIRST LIKE FIRST SUGGESTED THAT YOU HAD TO QUESTION MAYBE WHAT WAS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK, YOU KNOW, THE THINGS THAT YOU READ AND THAT OPENED A WHOLE NEW.

EVEN JUST LOOKING A THE THE EXAMPLES MR. SUAREZ GAVE, IT SHOWS EVERYTHING YOU'VE BEEN HEARING MAY NOT BE RIGHT.

THAT OPENS PEOPLE UP FOR REALLY RESEARCHING THINGS THEMSELVES WHICH WE NEED A LOT MORE OF THAT TODAY.

WE ALWAYS HAVE, BUT NEVER NEVER I DON'T KNOW IF IT HAS EVER BEEN MORE THAN TODAY.

WITH ALL OF THE SOCIAL MEDIA AND THINGS WE HAVE AVAILABLE TO US.

THIS IS THIS IS THE INFO.

THIS IS WHAT IS ON AGENDA FOR INFO.

WHAT IS SAID IS THE REVIEW IS FOR THE END OF THE MONTH AND WILL COME BACK FOR APPROVAL ON JULY 10TH MEETING.

YOU KNOW, YOU CAN CERTAINLY, IF SOMETHING COMES UP BETWEEN NOW AND THE END OF THE MONTH, PLEASE CONTACT DR. HUTCHINS SO YOUR QUESTIONS CAN BE ANSWERED SO THAT WE CAN KEEP THIS ON TRACK.

[Item 15]

SO ANYWAY, THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR THAT PRESENTATION.

I THINK WE'LL GO ON TO THE NEXT ITEM WE HAVE IS DISCUSSION OF THE SAMUEL TUCKER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CALENDAR.

>> THANK YOU.

WE'RE EXPERIENCING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC RIGHT NOW SO A LOT OF THE DECISIONS WE'RE MAKING IS DUE TO DECISIONS THAT UNFORTUNATELY PEOPLE ARE MAKING ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND ALL OVER THE WORLD.

WE ASKED FOR THE PRINCIPAL TO BE ON TODAY'S NEWS JUST TO PROVIDE US WITH INSIGHT AS TO WHY WE BELIEVE THAT THAT THIS THAT THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO HAVE SAMUEL TUCKER'S CALENDAR ALIGNED WITH THE OTHER CALENDARS.

I'LL TURN THINGS OVER TO MR. PASCAL AT THIS TIME TO JUST GIVE INSIGHT AROUND HOW YOU WORK WITH YOUR STAFF AND FAMILY TO TALK THROUGH THIS VERY IMPORTANT TOPIC AND

[00:50:01]

WHAT WE'RE RECOMMENDING.

>> THANK YOU FOR THE TIME TODAY.

AS YOU ALL KNOW, SOME OF YOU, WELL, PERSONALLY KNOW WELL, JUST HOW MUCH WE WE TREASURE AND VALUE OUR PROGRAM STATUS HERE AT TUCKER.

IT DEFINES THE CULTURE AND GIVES US A SHARP VISION.

WE HAVE RESOURCES TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS.

EARLY ON CONVERSATIONS BEGAN TO SURFACE, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE IT HIT RIGHT AT THE FRONT END OF OUR OF OUR SPRING SESSION AND THE REALITY THAT INTERCESSION AS WE KNOW IT WILL PROBABLY NOT BE AVAILABLE TO US UNTIL WE ARE WELL BEYOND OUR CURRENT STATE.

SO CONVERSATIONS FORMALLY SURFACED IN THE MAY 19PTA MEETING WHERE THE PARENTS BROUGHT UP THE NOTION OF ARE WE GOING TO CONSIDER PAUSING OUR CALENDAR AND OF COURSE ONCE THAT THE BALL STARTED ROLLING THERE, THE CONVERSATIONS DEEPENED.

THEY CONTINUED.

THE HARD QUESTIONS WERE ASKED.

AND SO WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME WE WERE HAVING SERIOUS CONVERSATIONS ABOUT PROPOSING THIS THIS IN ACTUALITY.

THE REAL FOCUS IS ON ALIGNMENT, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ONE WITH WITH SCHOOLS ACROSS THE CITY AS WE GUIDED TO 4.0, KNOWING FULL WELL THAT A UNIFIED CALENDAR WOULD SUPPORT LIMITED CITY AND SCHOOL DIVISION RESOURCES ALLOW US TO BE TO BE ON THE SAME PACING GUIDE, ALL OF THE ACPS RESOURCES.

WE'RE ALL WE'RE ALL ALIGNED WITH THE TRADITIONAL CALENDAR.

SO, WE'VE HAD WE'VE HAD SUBSTANTIAL PUBLIC INPUT.

WE HAD A WEBINAR ON JUNE THE 5TH, WE HAD WE TOOK A ZOOM POLL, I SHOULD SAY A GOOGLE FORUM POLL FOR ONE WEEK THE FIRST WEEK OF JUNE.

WE HAD STAFF MEETINGS AND LEADERSHIP MEETINGS AND THEN THEN OF COURSE, WE WE TOOK THE RESULTS OF THE POLL WHICH WHICH WHICH SHOWED STRONG SUPPORT ACROSS THE BOARD FROM THE COMMUNITY THAT AGAIN HOLDS THIS CALENDAR DEAR.

WE MOVED THE PROPOSAL FORWARD WITH A LITTLE BIT OVER 70 PERCENT SUPPORT FOR A ONE YEAR MODIFICATION AND EVERY TIME IT CAME UP WITH THE PARENT YOU COULD ALMOST VICERALLY SEE IT COME UP AND DON'T FORGET IT IS FOR ONE YEAR ONLY.

TWO CONTINGENCIES THAT SURFACED WITH THE STAKE HOLDERS.

PARENTS AND TEACHERS ALIKE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS A ONE YEAR ONLY MODIFICATION.

YOUR APPROVAL ON MAY 29TH OF THE 2021 CALENDAR, OUR MODIFIED CALENDAR, 21 22 CALENDAR WILL SEAL THE DEAL, THERE'S NO THIS IS NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE A CHANGE TO THE PROGRAM STATUS.

THE OTHER IS STAKE HOLDERS IS WE NOT STAFF THE PAY CYCLE DURING THE MIDST OF THE THE FINANCIAL IMPACT OF THE PANDEMIC.

YOU MAY NOT KNOW BUT OUR CALENDAR IS DIFFERENT.

WHY NOT.

EVERYTHING AT TUCKER IS DIFFERENT.

WE WORKED WITH HR AND WITH PAYROLL TO MAKE SURE WE COULD IRON OUT THOSE DIFFICULTIES AND ONCE THOSE TWO CONTINGENCIES WERE CLEARED IT HAS BEEN SMOOTH SAILING.

I APPRECIATE YOU ENTERTAINING THIS PROPOSAL.

WE SUPPORT IT.

I SUPPORT IT PERSONALLY.

I FEEL VERY CONFIDENT THAT WE HAVE THE BROAD SUPPORT OF OUR COMMUNITY TO ALIGN OURSELVES DURING THE MIDST OF THIS COVID PANDEMIC TO BETTER SERVE OUR STUDENTS.

THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I HAVE SOME PEOPLE WITH QUESTIONS.

FIRST UP, I HAVE MISS GENTRY.

>> THANK YOU, EVERYONE, THANK YOU THANK YOU ALSO MR. PASCAL FOR JOINING THE MEETING TODAY.

I REALLY JUST WANTED TO EMPHASIZE THAT THAT YOU KNOW, I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND SOME WEBINARS AND I GOT TO HEAR IT.

I'VE BEEN FOLLOWING ALONG WITH SOME OF THE COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK FROM THE TUCKER COMMUNITY.

I REALLY DO THINK THAT I THINK EVERYONE IS VERY ONBOARD WITH THE GOOD REASONS IF FOR DOING THE CALENDAR THIS YEAR.

THE ONLY HESITANCY I SENSED WAS PEOPLE WORRYING THAT IT WAS SOMEHOW OPENING THE DOOR AND PUTTING THE MODIFIED CALENDAR AT RISK.

I HOPE THAT WE AS A BOARD ARE ABLE TO TO CONTINUE TO TO ARTICULATE OUR SUPPORT

[00:55:07]

FOR THIS PROGRAM AND THAT THIS REALLY IS JUST ONL ONLY BECAUSE OF THE UNIQUE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT WE FIND OURSELVES IN.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE NEWER TO ACPS OR THE BOARD, I CAN CERTAINLY RELATE TO WHERE THAT CONCERN COMES FROM.

THERE WAS DEFINITELY A PERIOD OF TIME IN ACPS WHERE IT REALLY IT REALLY IT REALLY WAS IT REALLY DID FEEL TO THE TUCKER COMMUNITY THAT THEY WERE HAVING TO TO WAGE A FULL ON CAMPAIGN EVERY SINGLE BUDGET CYCLE IN ORDER TO PRESERVE THE MODIFIED CALENDAR.

I REALLY DO UNDERSTAND WHERE THAT CONCERN COMES FROM.

I THINK FORTUNATELY WE REALLY HAVEN'T SEEN THAT IN IN THE RECENT YEARS, BUT I JUST I WANTED TO GIVE CONTEXT FOR THAT AND JUST HOPE IT MIGHT MAYBE BOARD MEMBERS WILL JOIN ME IN REITERATING THE SUPPORT FOR THIS PROGRAM.

THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

NEXT UP I HAVE MISS NOLAN.

>> THANK YOU.

ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE YOU MR. PASCAL.

I AM A MEMBER OF YOUR FAN CLUB, PLEASURE SEEING YOU TODAY.

I ABSOLUTELY HEAR WHAT YOU'RE SAYING, I APPRECIATE YOU SHARING THAT HISTORY.

I DO RECALL WHEN I FIRST WAS ON THE BOARD, THAT WAS THE NUMBER ONE CONCERN, PLEASE DON'T MESS WITH THAT.

I ACTUALLY HAVE THE OPPOSITE ISSUE IN NOT ONLY DO I NOT WANT TO TOUCH THE MODIFIED CALENDAR BUT I'M CURIOUS IF THERE'S EVER A WAY TO EXPAND IT TO OTHER SCHOOLS.

DR. HUTCHINS, I DON'T KNOW DURING THIS TIME AND WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE INS AND OUTS OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, THE DATA POINT, WE KNOW, THE SUMMER SLIDE IS EXCEPTIONALLY DETRIMENTAL ESPECIALLY TO OUR LOWER INCOME STUDENTS.

IS THERE EVER ANY THOUGHT DOWN THE ROAD OR SOME VISION OR GOALS OF HAVING MORE SCHOOLS GO TO A MODIFIED CALENDAR, PARTICULARLY ONE WITH A LARGER PERCENTAGE OF OUR FREE AND REDUCED RATE.

THIS IS A MOMENT TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT ON THE CARD OR SOMETHING WE CONSIDER IN THE FUTURE, JUST GIVEN THE DATA ALL DRIVES TO THOSE BEING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND TO NOT EXPERIENCE THAT SUMMER SLIDE AND BE ABLE TO GO FURTHER IN THEIR ACADEMIC INSTRUCTION.

>> THE DISCUSSION THAT WE HAD IN IN REGARD TO TO TIME.

RIGHT NOW THE DOORS ARE OPEN FOR A NUMBER OF DISCUSSIONS WITH SOME OF THE CHALLENGES WE'RE GOING THROUGH.

BUT IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE HAD A DISCUSSION ABOUT ON OUR MODIFIED CALENDAR.

>> GOT IT.

WE NEED SOMETHING IN THE FUTURE TO KEEP IT ON THE TABLE.

THIS IS THE DATA THAT POINTS TO ESPECIALLY GIVEN, WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS YEAR HOLDS.

THANKS FOR BEING OPEN TO THAT.

>> I JUST INTERJECT HISTORICAL POINTS THAT T TUCKER HAS ALWAYS DONE WELL WITH THE MODIFIED.

BUT ACTUALLY MT.

VERNON USED TO BE AND THE DATA SHOWED THAT THE VERY GROUP THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HELPED BY THE PROGRAM ACTUALLY THEIR STATS WENT DOWN.

THAT WAS VERY INTERESTING AND RATHER SURPRISING BUT A FACT ALL THE SAME.

IT DID NOT THE E.L.

POPULATION, THEIR SCORES WENT DOWN OVER THE TIME THAT IT WAS MODIFIED.

ACTUALLY THOSE THE WHITE STUDENTS AT MT.

VERNON WERE PROBABLY THE HIGHEST ACHIEVING IN THE CITY.

WE'RE TALKING A PERCENTAGE POINT OR SO BUT JUST THAT HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE.

I TOTALLY SUPPORT THIS FOR TUCKER.

IT HAS BEEN WORKING WELL SINCE THE VERY FIRST YEAR.

THERE'S OTHER FACTORS BECAUSE MT.

VERNON HAD MULTIPLE THINGS GOING AT THE SAME TIME AND ACTUALLY SOME ISSUES WITH WITH THE WAY THAT WE THAT WE ACTUALLY THE LANGUAGE PROGRAM WAS WAS IMPLEMENTED AT THAT TIME TOO.

IT WAS RATHER EXCLUSIONARY AND HAD ISSUES.

I SEE I THOUGHT YOUR HAND WAS STILL UP.

>> THANK YOU FOR ADDING THAT.

I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE DISCUSSION WITH FOLKS THAT WERE PART OF THE TEAM.

THEY SAID THE DATA WAS SKEWED BECAUSE THERE WAS TOO MANY INITIATIVES GOING ON IN MT.

VERNON AND TOO MUCH TO SEE AND NOTHING BEING IMPLEMENTED WITH FIDELITY.

THANK YOU FOR ADDING THAT TO THE EXPLANATION ON WHY THE DATA WASN'T THAT STRONG.

[01:00:01]

>> RIGHT.

MS. ALDERTON.

>> HI, SO SO JUST I WANT TO PIGGYBACK, I THINK MISS GENTRY SET A GOOD FOUNDATION ON ON YOU KNOW WHAT SOME OF THE ISSUES WERE AND COULD HAVE BEEN.

I WON'T REITERATE THAT, BUT WHAT I WILL SAY, I JUST WANT I JUST WANT TO I JUST WANT TO REALLY I THINK THIS IS A TESTAMENT TO RAINE PASCAL IN HOW, THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT ABOUT ABOUT YOUR LEADERSHIP STYLE THAT YOU JUST THI COULD HAVE REALLY BEEN, KNOWING THE COMMUNITY AND ANYTHING OUR TEACHERS, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY CONTENTIOUS ISSUE.

AND YOU JUST SORT OF SORT OF PUT IT TOGETHER SO NICELY AND BROUGHT EVERYBODY TOGETHER.

TO ULTIMATELY COME UP TO T WHAT WAS THE BEST DECISION FOR KIDS.

SO I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS BEING ABLE TO DO THAT.

I ALWAYS SAY, YOU HAVE LIKE A MAGICAL WAY TO RALLY PEOPLE TOGETHER.

SO IF I COULD SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THIS, I THINK THIS IS A TESTAMENT TO YOUR LEADERSHIP AND THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> THANK YOU.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> I DON'T SEE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS.

THIS IS ON FOR NEXT WEEK.

>> THAT'S CORRECT.

>> SO THIS IS INFO AND THEN ACTION WILL BE ON 26TH FOR ON THE FOR JUST THIS YEAR BECAUSE TUCKER HAS REALLY WELL, IT IS GREAT, I AGREE IT IS GREAT THAT THE CHANGE HAS BEEN MADE WITH SEAMLESSLY IN TERMS OF GETTING PEOPLE ONBOARD.

OKAY.

THE NEXT THING WE HAVE IS I BELIEVE IS OUR CHAIR REPORT WHICH I THINK I THINK BEFORE WE GET TO THE Q AND A.

[Item 16]

THERE'S A COUPLE OF THINGS AS MR. SUAREZ SAID, I WANTED TO THANK AGAIN THE PTA COUNCIL FOR ORGANIZING SO QUICKLY TO RAISE 32,000 DOLLARS BECAUSE THIS WAS REALLY SOMETHING THAT WAS STANDING BETWEEN BETWEEN STUDENTS BEING CONNECTED AND NOT.

IT IS THAT SIMPLE.

IT IS THEIR LIFELINE TO US NOW.

I ALSO WANTED TO TO TO L EVERYBODY KNOW THAT WE KNOW THERE'S RENEWED INTERESTS IN THE NAMES OF OUR FACILITIES.

SO WE WILL BE DISCUSSING WHEN WE RECONVENE IN THE FALL AND WE'LL HAVE THAT ON ON AGENDA.

WE'LL PUT THAT ON THE AGENDA.

AND THE LAST THING FOR MY REPORT IS JUST TO REMIND PEOPLE, THE LAST JOINT SCHOOL BOARD CITY COUNCIL SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING IS THIS COMING MONDAY AT 5:00, IF YOU WANT TO ZOOM IN AND WATCH THAT, OR SEE IT ON CHANNEL 71.

THEIR LINKS TO SEE IT BY ZOOM OR YOU COULD WATCH IT ON CHANNEL 71.

SO THAT THAT ALL I HAVE FOR TODAY.

SO SO ON TO THE DR. HUTCHINS REPORT AND Q AND A.

[Item 17]

>> THANK YOU MADAM CHAIR, I DO HAVE A COUPLE OF UPDATES I WANTED TO GET TO BEFORE WE WENT TO Q AND A.

ONE IS IN REGARDS TO OUR REOPENING PLANNING.

THAT'S A HOT TOPIC AND WILL BE UNTIL OUR DOORS ACTUALLY REOPEN, RIGHT? IN WHATEVER WAY THEY'RE GOING TO REOPEN.

WE DID HAVE OUR FIRST MEETING WITH OUR WITH OUR CROSS FUNCTIONAL PLANNING TEAM CHAIRS THIS WEEK.

AND WE WERE PRETTY MUCH LAYING OUT KIND OF LIKE A STRATEGY AS WELL AS POTENTIAL AGENDA FOR OUR PLANNING TEAMS THAT WILL BE DOING THE HAND ON WORK THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF JULY IN PREPARATION FOR JUNE 26 MEETING WHERE WE SHARE INFORMATION WITH THE BOARD NEXT WEEK.

SOMETHING THAT I THINK IS KEY AND I SAID THIS BEFORE, BUT THE ENGAGEMENT THAT HAPPENS FROM DIFFERENT STAKE HOLDER GROUPS IS GOING TO HAPPEN DURING OUR OUR PLANNING MEETINGS.

THAT'S WHERE A LOT OF GROUNDWORK GETS DONE.

WE ALSO ARE GOING TO ENGAGE DIFFERENT COMMUNITY STAKE HOLDERS AND THAT'S INCLUDING STAFF, STUDENTS PARENTS, FOCUS GROUPS AND FEEDBACK SESSIONS AND ONLINE SURVEYS AND ONLINE COMMENTS TO RECEIVE FROM OUR DIFFERENT STAKE HOLDER GROUPS SO THAT WE CAN PUT ALL OF THESE PERSPECTIVES INTO CONSIDERATION OR TAKE THESE PERSPECTIVES INTEREST CONSIDERATION WHEN FINALIZING OUR REOPENING PLAN.

I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT, I KNOW, THAT WE HAVE SEEN SOME REALLY LAID OUT PLANS THAT

[01:05:06]

HAVE COME FROM OTHER SCHOOL DIVISIONS.

THE GUIDELINES JUST CAME OUT LAST TUESDAY.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE DIGESTING THE GUIDELINES AND YESTERDAY'S VIDEO Q AND A WAS SPECIFICALLY ON THAT.

IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO WATCH IT, I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO WATCH IT.

IT IS LIKE 28 MINUTES AND IT IS BECAUSE IT IS COVERING 138 PAGE DOCUMENT.

IT IS A LOT OF INFORMATION BUT I THINK IT IS GOING TO BE IMPORTANT AND OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS, YOU'RE GOING TO GET CHUNKS OF INFORMATION OUT TO OUR COMMUNITY.

THE POINT I'M MAKING IS WE REALLY NEED TO TO ENCOURAGE OUR COMMUNITY TO KNOW THAT THAT WE HAVE TO HAVE FLEXIBILITY.

WE HAVE TO HAVE PATIENCE AND WE HAVE TO PROVIDE GRACE BECAUSE WE'RE GOING INTO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR, AND THIS IS TERRITORY NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN.

NOBODY HAS HAS THE GOLDEN TICKET OR THE ANSWERS.

RIGHT, ANYBODY SAID THEY DO, THEY'RE IN THE TELLING THE TRUTH, BECAUSE AS YOU WALK AND SEE, WITH THIS GLOBAL PANDEMIC, TOMORROW THINGS COULD CHANGE OVERNIGHT.

WE COULD SEE A SPIKE IN CASES AND GUESS WHAT, EVERYTHING COULD BE SHUT DOWN IN A WEEK.

SO WE HAVE TO KEEP THAT IN MIND THAT WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE BEING VERY METHODICAL AND STRATEGIC WITH OUR PLANNING AND THAT WE'RE IN THE BEING IMPULSIVE AND REACTIVE BECAUSE WHAT ENDS UP HAPPENING IS WE HAVE TO REDLINE EVERYTHING THAT WE'VE DONE.

WE DON'T WANT TO BE IN THAT SITUATION AS A SCHOOL DIVISION.

I THINK THAT I AM CONTINUING TO WORK WITH OUR REGIONAL SUPERINTENDENTS.

WE DO HAVE MEETINGS EVERY WEEK, EVERY WEDNESDAY WE MEET.

CAN'T EVERYBODY IS FINE WITH THE AGREEMENT THAT WE SAID WE WERE GOING TO DO.

WE WERE GOING TO SHARE OUR OVERVIEW ON JUNE 26.

YOU SEE THEM OUT THERE.

NO PUN INTENDED TO MY COLLEAGUES.

WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES THAT WE SERVE.

SOMETIMES POLITICS FORCE US TO GO AGAINST COMMITMENT WE MADE.

I WANT TO STAY TRUE TO T WHAT WHAT WE HAD DISCUSSED AS A REGION AND I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT AS A SCHOOL DIVISION WE'RE ALIGNING OUR WORK WITH THE GUIDELINES.

WE ALSO HAVE ENGAGED EDUCATION ELEMENTS IN IN AN UPDATE I PROVIDED TO YOU ALL LAST WEEK, THIS IS AN ORGANIZATION THAT IS ACTUALLY WORKING WITH OUR REGION FOUR.

I HAD A LINK TO IT.

I DIDN'T TELL YOU A LOT ABOUT THEM.

THIS IS A CONSULTING GROUP THAT IS WORKING WITH REGION FOUR TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR PLANS ARE COLLABORATIVE AND WE'RE WORKING TOGETHER.

WE HAVE ENGAGED EDUCATION ELEMENTS TO ASSIST US WITH SOME FACILITYING THIS.

AS WELL AS PLANNING WORK IN JULY, IN ORDER TO BE ENGAGED, WE HAVE TO BRING SOMEBODY IN TO ASSIST US WITH THAT CONSULTING.

YOU'RE GOING TO SEE SOME OF OUR CONSULTANTS NEXT FRIDAY IN OUR BOARD MEETING AND TO PROVIDE YOU ALL WITH JUST ASSISTANCE THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS.

EVERYTHING IS IS STILL TIME SENSITIVE OF COURSE, SO WE'RE MOVING AT A RAPID PACE AND WE'RE TRYING TO NOT GO SO FAST THAT WE'RE MISSING YOU KNOW, A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES AND INFORMATION.

THAT WAS ONE POINT I WANTED TO MAKE.

THE OTHER PIECE RELATES TO OUR STRATEGIC PLAN.

I KNOW YOU'RE GOING TO GET THIS INFORMATION NEXT WEEK.

THE COMMENTS THAT WE'VE BEEN RECEIVING, WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR.

THANK YOU BOARD MEMBERS WHO HAVE BEEN SHARING FEEDBACK FROM CONSTITUENTS THAT YOU HAVE SPOKEN WITH.

WE HAVE TAKEN OUR COMMENTS FROM STAFF AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND CONSOLIDATE THEM, YOU WILL SEE ATTACHMENT FOR THAT FOR THE NEXT BOARD MEETING SO YOU COULD SEE A COMPILATION OF THE COMMENTS.

THEY'RE ALSO WORKING THROUGH HOW THESE COMMENTS HAVE MADE ADJUSTMENTS TO TO THE STRATEGIC PLAN.

WE WANT TO BE EXPLICIT ABOUT THAT.

I GOT TO REVIEW THOSE DOCUMENTS TODAY.

I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL YOU GET TO SEE THEM.

THERE'S A COUPLE OF REVISIONS THEY'RE WORKING THROUGH.

IT REALLY GIVES YOU A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF HOW FEEDBACK MAKES IT INTO ADJUSTMENTS AND THE ACCOUNTABILITY TEAM HAS DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB FOR THAT.

HATS OFF TO THEM.

YOU ALL WOULD BE VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE DOCUMENTS WHEN YOU SEE THEM NEXT WEEK.

[01:10:06]

MY FINAL THING BEFORE Q AND A, I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT.

THIS IS SOMETHING I WAS GRAPPLING WHETHER I WOULD MENTION IT OR NOT.

SOME THINGS COULD BE A WASTE OF TIME BUT SOME THINGS CAN BE TEACHABLE MOMENTS.

I THINK THE CLIMATE THAT WE'RE IN RIGHT NOW, I THINK THAT WE SHOULD BEGIN TO START TO FIND IT AND USE EXAMPLE OF DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES THAT RELATE TO THE REGION WHERE WHERE WH WE'RE IN THIS WHOLE RACE RELATIONS CRISIS ACROSS AMERICA.

TODAY I WANTED TO JUST DEFINE MICRO AGGRESSION.

I WANT TO DEFINE IT AND USE AN EXAMPLE OF IT, BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT THAT IF WE DON'T SPEAK OUR TRUTH, WE WON'T SEE CHANGE.

IF WE DON'T CALL THINGS OUT THAT WE SEE, CLEAR EXAMPLES, PEOPLE THINK WE'RE BLOWING SMOKE.

THIS PAST WEEK I RECEIVED E MAIL FROM CONSTITUENTS THAT PRETTY MUCH SAYS WEARING THE T SHIRT OR HOODIE, MAKES YOU UNPROFESSIONAL.

THAT'S PRETTY MUCH WHAT IT STATES VERBATIM.

RIGHT.

GIVE ME A GIST OF WHAT THAT MEANS, FOR THAT TO GO TO AN AFRICAN AMERICAN MAN, WE HAD PROTESTS AND AND WE HAD MOVEMENTS IN REGARDS TO TREYVON MARTIN AND HIS HOODIE.

A YOUNG BLACK BOY THAT WAS SHOT AND KILLED WITH A HOODIE.

THOSE CONVERSATIONS THAT WE HAVE BEEN HAVING OVER THE PAST YEAR, THAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF A MICRO AGGRESSION.

WHAT THAT LEADS TO, IT MAKES IT APPEAR AS IF BECAUSE OF WHAT I HAVE ON MY BODY THAT DETERMINES HOW COMPETENT OR OR HOW PROFESSIONAL I AM AS SUPERINTENDENT.

I FIND IT LUDICROUS AND UNACCEPTABLE.

I THINK WE HAVE TO CALL IGNORANCE WHAT IT IS WHEN WE SEE IT.

IF WE DON'T THEN PEOPLE WILL CONTINUE TO THINK IT IS OKAY AND IT IS APPROPRIATE TO SEND INFORMATION LIKE THAT.

IT IS NOT APPROPRIATE.

ONE THING THAT I TAKE VERY SERIOUSLY IS PROFESSIONALISM.

ONE THING I TAKE VERY SERIOUSLY IS MAKING SURE THAT NOT ONLY OUR STAFF AND STUDENTS AND FAMILIES KNOW I'M IN THIS GLOBAL PANDEMIC LIKE THEM.

I'M HOME WITH MY CHILDREN AND MY WIFE AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO WORK 20 HOURS A DAY.

I WORK MORE NOW THAN PRIOR TO THE PANDEMIC IN MY HOUSE WITH THE CHILDREN, SO I WILL NOT PUT ON A TIE EVERY DAY AND GET ON THIS TO TALK TO ANYBODY.

I JUST WON'T DO IT BECAUSE I AM DEALING WITH WITH EVERYTHING EVERYBODY ELSE IS TOO.

I THINK THERE'S INSENSITIVITY THAT COMES ALONG WITH THAT COMMENT AND IT IS DEEPER THAN THAT.

IT IS A MICRO AGGRESSION AND IT IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF ONE THAT HAPPENS TOO OFTEN ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND INCLUDING TO THE SUPERINTENDENT.

I WANTED TO PUT ON THE RECORD, YOU KNOW WHAT, IF I DON'T USE MY PLATFORM TO SPEAK MY TRUTH SHAME ON ME.

I'LL USE EVERY PLATFORM AND OPPORTUNITY I CAN TO GIVE CHARITY AND UNDERSTANDING AND EDUCATION AROUND WHAT THIS COUNTRY AND PARTICULARLY BLACK PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY DEAL WITH EVERY SINGLE DAY BECAUSE I GUARANTEE FACEBOOK CEO IS NOT GETTING THAT E MAIL.

I GUARANTEE BILL GATES IS NOT GETTING THAT E MAIL.

I GUARANTEE BEYONCE WHO PUTS HER HAIR AND STUFF ON ON ZOOM BECAUSE SHE'S WITH HER KIDS AND HER HUSBAND IS NOT GETTING THOSE TYPES OF E MAILS.

SHE MIGHT BE BECAUSE SHE'S AFRICAN AMERICAN.

THE POINT I'M TRYING TO MAKE IS THAT IF WE DON'T CALL WHAT WE SEE, SHAME ON US.

IF WE NEED IT START STANDING UP AND SPEAKING OUR TRUTH AND WE'RE SAYING RACIAL EQUITY IS THE HEART OF THE NEXT STRATEGIC PLAN, WE AS A BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF AND ESPECIALLY OUR SENIOR LEADERS WHO ARE ON THIS CALL RIGHT NOW NEED IT MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE NOT ALLOWING PEOPLE TO GET AWAY WITH IT.

WE'RE EXPOSING THE SAME WAY AMY COOPER WAS EXPOSED IN CENTRAL PARK CALLING THE POLICE ON THE BLACK MAN.

THAT'S ALL I HAD TO SAY.

I HOPE THIS MESSAGE YOU KNOW IS NOT NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK ON ANYBODY.

THIS IS ME SPEAKING MY TRUTH AND IT IS MY TRUTH ONLY.

I SPEAK ON BEHALF OF ACPS, AM I SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD, I'M SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF MYSELF.

I WANT TO OPEN THE FLOOR TO QUESTIONS.

I THOUGHT I HAD TO GET THAT OFF MY CHEST SO I COULD MOVE ON WITH MY LIFE AND THE NEXT

[01:15:06]

THINGS WE NEED TO WORK ON AND MAKING SURE THAT OUR YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION IN THAT WE'RE REMOVING BARRIERS AND THEY COULD BE SUCCESSFUL AND THEY COULD GROW UP AND LOVE EACH AND EVERY PERSON IN THIS WORLD REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY WEAR.

>> OKAY.

I SEE A COUPLE I SEE A LOT OF QUESTIONS, BUT I JUST WANT TO SAY RIGHT NOW THAT WE'RE AT 1:17, OR 1:18.

I'M NOT TRYING TO T DISCOURAGE QUESTIONS BECAUSE WE HAVE A CLOSED MEETING AND I DON'T WANT ANYONE TO HAVE TO DROP OFF BECAUSE OF WORK COMMITMENTS.

SO I DON'T KNOW.

I SHOULD HAVE SEEN SOMETIMES PEOPLE TELL ME AHEAD OF TIME THAT THAT THEY'RE SET TO THAT.

GIVE ME A LITTLE TEXT IF YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE A PROBLEM IF WE'RE GOING OVER FOR THE CLOSED MEETING BECAUSE I DON'T WANT I THINK THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT, OUR CLOSED MEETING.

AGAIN I'M IN THE SEEING THAT TO NECESSARILY DISCOURAGE QUESTIONS BUT KEEP IT REAL IN TERMS OF OUR TIME TODAY.

I HAVE MR. SUAREZ WITH HIS HAND RAISED.

>> THANK YOU I'LL KEEP IT QUICK.

IN THE INTEREST OF TIME.

MY QUESTION DR. HUTCHINS IS ABOUT THE POLL SURVEY.

WE RECEIVED THAT THIS MORNING, THE UPDATED VERSION.

OBVIOUSLY SOME DATA SUGGESTED THAT WERE A LOT OF THINGS ARE GOING WELL FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF MANY PARENTS AND SO FORTH.

MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS ABOUT THE DATA POINT THAT LESS THAN HALF OF TEACHERS REPORTED THAT 50 PERCENT OR MORE STUDENTS WERE ENGAGED IN LEARNING AND IT SOUNDED LIKE THAT TREND WAS WAS WA THE CASE BOTH IN MAY AND JUNE.

SO I'M JUST WONDERING WHAT WE'RE DOING OVER THE SUMMER TO UNPACK AN UNDERSTAND WHY THAT IS.

I LIKE TO AS A BOARD MEMBER SEE MORE DATA AROUND, IF THE TEACHERS ARE REPORTING THAT, THEY MUST HAVE A SENSE OF STUDENTS IN THE CLASS AND NOT PARTICIPATING AND I'M WONDERING IF WE HAVE THAT ROBUSTLY COMPILED SOMEWHERE AND ARE REALLY UNPACKING THAT.

IT SOUND LIKE BASED ON WHAT I HEARD ABOUT OUR DISCUSSIONS SO FAR AND THE REOPENING THAT IT IS GOING TO BE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE 100 PERCENT IN PERSON REOPENING.

INEVITABLY, THERE'S GOING TO BE SOME VIRTUAL COMPONENT TO WHAT WE DO IF KIDS ARE IN SCHOOL PART TIME OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

I LIKE TO KNOW HOW WE USE THE SUMMER MONTHS TO REALLY UNPACK THAT A USE THAT DATA TO MAKE SURE WE'RE REACHING AS MANY STUDENTS AS POSSIBLE.

>> ABSOLUTELY WE ARE UNPACKING THAT.

ONE THING THAT IN PARTICULAR THAT WE'RE THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT AND THIS IS ONE OF OUR PLANNING COMMITTEES THAT WE'RE WORKING ON CURRICULUM AND STRUCTURE FOR THE OPENING OF THE SCHOOL.

ONE THING THAT WE HAVE TO USE AS WE DEVELOP OUR REOPENING PLAN.

THERE'S A LOT OF LESSONS LEARNED.

WE HAVE IN A SENSE OUR FOCUS FOR THE PAST THREE MONTHS HONESTLY WAS EQUALITY AND NOT NECESSARILY EQUITY.

WHAT I MEAN BY THAT IS WE MADE SURE EVERYBODY HAD THEIR WE DID NOT TAKE IT A STEP FURTHER TO INSURE THAT CERTAIN FAMILIES MAY NEED ADDITIONAL SUPPORT WITH THAT PARTICULAR THEY VICE.

THEY MAY NOT HAVE USED THE DEVICE BEFORE.

SOME FAMILY MAY HAVE NEEDED SOME TYPE OF TRAINING.

SOME MAY NEED A COACH TO CONTACT AND FOLLOW UP TO DO EXTRA.

WE HAVEN'T WE DIDN'T MAKE THOSE ADJUSTMENTS TOP IT IS BECAUSE WE'RE TRYING TO ADJUST TO THIS NEW VIRTUAL LEARNING OVERNIGHT.

I UNDERSTAND WHY.

I'M NOT PUTTING IN DOWN.

EVERYBODY I KNOW WE ALL WORKED HARD.

I'M IN THE SAYING WE DID ANYTHING WRONG.

I'M SAYING THESE ARE THE LESSONS LEARNED.

WE'RE GETTING INTO OUR EQUITABLE VIRTUAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO REALLY YOU KNOW UNRAVEL TO DETERMINE IS IT BECAUSE FAMILIES HAVE OUT OF THE TIME, IS IT BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO USE A DEVICE.

IS IT BECAUSE OF THE GRADING POLICY THAT WE PUT IN PLACE.

I CAN TELL YOU WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL IN MY OWN HOUSE THAT SHE KNEW ALL I HAD TO DO WAS 60 PERCENT.

ALL SHE DID WAS 60 PERCENT TO GET HER PASS.

I SEE YOU LATER.

THAT'S MY OPINION.

BUT SHE SHE GAINED THE SYSTEM.

I'M SURE OTHER STUDENTS DID THAT TOO.

AND WE'RE GOING TO REALLY HAVE TO TAKE A LOOK, ESPECIALLY WITH THE FEEDBACK WE'VE GOTTEN FROM THE TEACHERS THAT THAT THOSE GRADING POLICIES REALLY, FOR KIDS NOT TO REALLY BE ENGAGED.

IT WAS GOOD FOR WHAT WE DID.

I THINK WHERE STUDENTS WERE NOT PERFORMING AT HIGH LEVELS AND NEEDED THAT EXTRA

[01:20:03]

A IN FOURTH QUARTER, IT HELPED THEM IN A LOT OF WAYS.

KID THAT ALREADY HAD AS AND COULD DO NOTHING I MEAN, I KNOW EXAMPLES OF SOMEBODY THAT DID THAT.

LET'S DO IT NEXT YEAR.

I THINK THOSE ARE SOME S LESSONS LEARNED THAT WERE GOING TO HAVE TO WORK THROUGH.

>> OKAY.

I HAVE DR. RIEF.

>> MY QUESTION IS ALSO RELATED TO SUMMER LEARNING.

CONGRATULATIONS FOR MAKING IT TO THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL, EVERYONE.

THAT'S EXCITING.

IT HAS BEEN A CHALLENGING YEAR.

WE KNOW.

WE DID IT.

WE HAVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT.

I WAS WONDERING.

I WANTED TO FOLLOW UP, WE ONLY HAVE ONE MORE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING NEXT WEEK BEFORE THE SUMMER LEARNING STARTS.

I KNOW OUR AGENDA IS VERY FULL NEXT WEEK.

MY QUESTION IS REALLY ABOUT HOW PARENTS SHOULD EXPECT TO HEAR FROM ABOUT THEIR SUMMER LEARNING ASSIGNMENT, THEIR TEACHER ASSIGNMENT.

WHEN IS THAT SHARED OUT? IS IT FROM THE LOCAL SCHOOL? IF WE ENCOUNTER PARENTS THAT ARE HAVING PROBLEMS AND QUESTIONS, WHO SHOULD WE BE REFERRING THEM TO, SINCE THEIR TEACHERS ARE NOW OFFICIALLY AT THEIR LAST DAY.

SO.

>> YEAH.

WE SHOULD REFER THEM TO THE PRINCIPALS FOR RIGHT NOW FOR THE SUMMER.

BUT YOU MAY WANT TO ELABORATE ON HOW YOU GET INFORMATION OUT.

>> I CAN ANSWER THAT.

DR. RIEF, YOU MUST HAVE BEEN IN OUR SUMMER SCHOOL MEETING THIS MORNING, LISTENING IN.

WE'RE PLANNING TWO MODE OF COMMUNICATION, ONE FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

WE'LL REMIND THEM SUMMER LEARNING IS HAPPENING AND LINK TO THE WEBSITE AND A LINK IF YOU WANT TO OPT OUT.

WE'RE CHOSE TO A THOUSAND OPT OUTS IF THE DIVISION.

AND THEN ONCE WE HAVE THE HIGHER COMPLETE WHICH WE'RE STILL WORKING ON RIGHT NOW AND THE CLASS ROSTERS AND LIST UP WE WILL SEND OUT ONE.

YOU'LL GET ONE AS A PARENT THAT WILL SAY JUST HOW YOU CONNECT.

HERE'S YOUR TEACHER.

IF YOU HAVE A BOOST COURSE, HERE'S YOUR TEACHER AND WHEN THEY'LL BE AVAILABLE AND HOW TO CONTACT THEM WHEN SUPPORT IS NEEDED.

THEY'RE IN CREDIT RECOVERY.

THEY HAVE THAT INFORMATION BEFORE JULY 6TH, NEXT WEEK WILL BE THE LETTER THAT STATES WE'RE HAVING SUMMER LEARNING AS A REMINDER AND HERE ARE THE PROGRAMS IF YOU WANT IT OPT OUT.

THEN YOU'LL GET THE ONE THAT SAYS HERE'S YOUR TEACHER AND HOW YOU ACCESS EVERYTHING.

EVERYTHING WILL GO THROUGH CLEVER, NO MATTER WHAT GRADE LEVEL WE'RE IN.

THEN YOU HAVE INFORMATION FOR THE TEACHER.

IF YOU HAVE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS THEY COULD SEND THEIR E MAIL TO TO THE SUMMER SCHOOL E MAIL THAT WE SET UP OR ALSO E MAIL ME OR DR. KINKADE.

[Items 18 - 20]

[01:26:21]

>> OKAY.

>> GREAT.

THANK YOU.

NOW WE HAVE NOW 1:25 AND I'M GOING TO ASK MISS NOLAN TO LEAD US INTO CLOSE.

I WANT TO REMIND PEOPLE THAT WE ARE GOING TO LEAVE THIS MEETING AND MISS NEILSEN HAS SENT US ANOTHER ZOOM MEETING THAT WE WILL, SO WE LEAVE THIS ONE AND GO TO THE OTHER ONE AND BEFORE WE ADJOURN, WE'LL HAVE TO COME BACK TO THIS ONE AGAIN TO DO THE ADJOURNING IN PUBLIC.

>> MAY I INTERRUPT.

MAKE SURE BOARD MEMBERS YOU LOG OUT.

YOU CAN'T BE IN TWO ZOOM MEETINGS AT ONCE.

>> OKAY.

SO WE'RE READY I THINK FOR MISS NOLAN IT READ US INTO CLOSE, PLEASE.

>> I MOVE THAT THE BOARD CONVENE A CLOSED MEETING FOR THE DISCUSSION AND CONSIDERATION OF EMPLOYMENT PERFORMANCE AND CONTRACTUAL MATTERS FOR 25 SPECIFIC PUBLIC EMPLOYEES.

>> MISS GREENE SECONDING MISS NOLAN'S MOTION.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

>> WE'RE BACK.

ALL I NEED NOW IS MOTION TO ADJOURN.

>> I MOVE WE ADJOURN.

>> FIRST WE NEED TO CERTIFY THE CLOSED MEETING.

>> THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.

SORRY.

MISS NOLAN, YOU NEED TO CERTIFY US OUR CLOSED SESSION.

>> I MOVE THAT THE BOARD CERTIFIED TO THE BEST OF EACH MEMBER'S KNOWLEDGE ONLY PUBLIC BUSINESS.

MATTERS IDENTIFIED IN THE MOTION AND LAWFULLY EXEMPTED FROM THE INFORMATION ACT AND WERE HEARD AND DISCUSSED IN THE CLOSED MEETING HELD ON JUNE

>> MARGARET.

>> YES.

>> SO WE'RE EIGHT AND ONE ABSENT AND WE'RE ADJOURNED AT 2:29.

>> GOOD BYE.

>> CINDY, CAN YOU JUST TELL ME WHO SECONDED THE ADJOURN.
