[00:18:06]

THIS WILL HELP TO SUPPORT ALL STUDENTS NOT ONLY IN THE CONTENT LEARNING BUT ALSO IN

[00:18:12]

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ACTIVITIES.

[00:18:14]

FOR OUR STUDENT GUIDANCE AND PARENTS AND INSTRUCTORS, WE'RE ASKING OUR ENGLISH

[00:18:56]

LEARNER STUDENTS TO ENGAGE INWE ALSO INCLUDE ALL OF THE TELEPHONE NUMBERS IN VARIOUS WAYS TO ACCESS INFORMATION THEIR HOME LANGUAGES.

THAT'S IN SUMMARY OUR ENGLISH LEARNERS HOME SECTION.

THANK YOU.

AND NEXT WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO DO IS ASK TERRY TO PROVIDE AN OVERVIEW OF SOME OF THE WAYS THAT YOU'RE GOING TO SUPPORT DISABILITIES IN A REMOTE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU THE PROCESSES WE'RE FOLLOWING IN THE OFFICE OF SPECIALIZED INSTRUCTION.

THE FIRST THING YOU WILL SEE IS OUR NEW PROCEDURES IN THE COVID 19 CLOSURE THERE ARE

[00:20:01]

MANY PROSCRIBED LAWS AND WE'VE HAD TO NAVIGATE THOSE CAREFULLY THROUGH THAT PROCESS.

WE DEVELOPED A LETTER THAT IS GOING TO GO HOME TO ALL PARENTS, WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THAT TRANSLATED AND SENT OUT TO FAMILIES NEXT WEEK.

WE ARE GOING TO SEND THAT THROUGH MULTIPLE VENUES BOTH EMAIL, MAIL, AND TEXT NOTIFICATIONS AS WELL.

PARENTS WILL HAVE THAT INFORMATION.

A NEW SET OF POLICIES AND PROCEDURES AROUND THE COMPLETION OF ELIGIBILITY AND IEP MEETINGS.

STARTING THE WEEK OF APRILÂ 13TH.

IN TERMS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION SUPPORTS OUR TEAMS HAVE BEEN WORKING VALIANTLY THROUGH ALL OF THIS.

I JUST HAVE TO SAY PUBLICLY HOW PROUD I AM OF WHAT THEY'VE DONE.

WE HAVE A TEAM OF INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALISTS AND TEACHERS WORKING IN THE BUILDINGS.

ON THE INSTRUCTION SIDE AND THE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT TEAMS HAVE BEEN WORKING VERY CAREFULLY WITH THE SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS TO ENSURE WE'RE ABLE TO ACCESS STUDENTS AND PROVIDE SPECIAL EDUCATION SUPPORT.

WE HAVE PROVIDED EXTENSIVE SUPPORTS TO TEACHERS TO ENSURE THEY CAN PROVIDE SPECIALLY DESIGNED INSTRUCTION TO STUDENTS.

THAT IS CONTINUING AND WE ARE GOING TO PROVIDE ON GOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN THAT REGARD.

IN TERMS OF RELATES SERVICES, WE'RE INITIATING AFTER APRILÂ 13TH.

SPEECH OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY.

TWO STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES WHO HAVE THOSE SERVICES ON THEIR IEP AT THIS TIME.

WE CANNOT DO FACETOFACE OR PERSON TO PERSON.

BUT WE ARE GOING TO PROVIDE THOSE SERVICES ON A PROPORTIONAL BASIS.

WE'RE PLEASED ABOUT THAT.

IN TERMS OF DIGITAL RESOURCES.

WE HAVE AN EXTENSIVE LIBRARY THAT WE HAVE DEVELOPED FOR TEACHERS AND PARENTS TO ACCESS.

MUCH OF THAT INFORMATION IS BEING COMMUNICATED THROUGH OUR CANVASS SYSTEM.

WE'RE WORKING WITH SCHOOLS INDIVIDUALLY.

THEY ARE PREDOMINATELY BEING SHARED WITH TEACHERS TO PROVIDE TO PARENTS AS WELL ASTHE DOCUMENTS THAT TEACHERS HAVE TO ACCESS INFORMATION.

WE'VE COVERED JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING AT THIS POINT.

OKAY.

THE NEXT GROUP OF LEARNERS WE WANT TO ADDRESS IS TALENTED AND GIFTED.

CONTINUED EDUCATION IN SUPPORTING THOSE STUDENTS.

WE'VE COMPILED A LIST THAT'S A VARIETY OF LINKS TO VARIOUS SITES FOR ENGAGING OUR TAG STUDENTS TO ENGAGE THEIR CURIOSITY AND INTEREST AND SOME OF THOSE OPPORTUNITIES WILL INCLUDE VIRTUAL TOURS AND THE SMITHSONIAN LEARNING LAB.

INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATIONS AND WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THIS AREA IS WE'RE WORKING WITH COMMUNICATIONS TO UPLOAD A LOT OF THOSE DIFFERENT LINKS TO THE A C PS WEBSITE.

IN ADDITION TO THAT THIS INFORMATION HAS BEEN COMMUNICATED TO TEACHERS, PARTICULARLY THOSE TEACHERS IN GRADES SIX THROUGH 12.

THESE ACTIVITIES AND RESOURCES TO THE TAG TEACHERS.

SHE IS WORKING CLOSELY TO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE ACCESS THROUGH THESE MULTIPLE ACTIVITIES FOR THESE TALENTED AND GIFTED STUDENTS.

NEXT IS THE CORE OF THIS REMOTE LEARNINGPROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, BUILDING A

[00:25:09]

CAPACITY AND SYSTEM PRINCIPLES JUST BUILDING THEIR CAPACITY TO BE ABLE TO WORK IN A REMOTE ENVIRONMENT.

WE HAVE DEVELOPMENT A COLLABORATION WITH OTHER STAFF.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEACHERS.

YOU CAN SEE HERE THERE'S SOME LINKS TO ANYTIME LEARNING.

THERE'S ALSO A PROFESSIONAL LEARNING CALENDAR.

TEACHERS HAVE INTEREST IN GEARING THEIR CLASSROOMS AROUND ZOOMIT'S A NEW ENVIRONMENT.

WE'VE PROVIDED IN ALL AREAS AND GRADE LEVELS INCLUDE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING.

THAT IS WHY ONE OF OUR MAJOR BUCKETS FOCUSED ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

I'LL TALK A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND PLANNING DAY THAT WILL OCCUR IN APRIL.

NEXT WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO DO IS ASK DR. MAN TO TALK THROUGH THE SCHEDULED THAT HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED FOR SCHOOLS.

WE DEVELOPED A SAMPLE SCHEDULE THAT SUGGESTS ACTIVITIES FOR TEACHERS DOING THESE PARTICULAR HOURS.

THIS IS NOT A MANDATE BUT PROVIDES GUIDANCE ON HOW TO SPEND THE SCHOOL DAY.

HOW THEY WERE DEVELOPED WITH HIM IN COLLABORATION WITH PRINCIPLES.

GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYONE.

THESE ARE SAMPLE SCHEDULES.

AS A COMMITTEE, WE HAD PRINCIPLES AND TWO TEACHERS.

YOU'LL NOTICE ON THE K2 WE SUGGEST YOU GET UP AND EAT BREAKFAST.

GET UP AND HAVE A ROUTINE.

WE HAVE A MORNING MOVEMENT BREAK.

ITWE'RE TRYING TO BE FLEXIBLE AND THIS IS TO GIVE FAMILIES STRUCTURE FOR THEIR DAY.

WE KNOW HOW VITAL READING IS BY THE TIME THEY GET TO THIRD GRADE.

IF YOU ARE A TEACHER OR PARENT OF A STUDENT AT GEORGE WASHINGTON MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THIS WILL LOOK FAMILIAR.

AS THE COMMITTEE WENT THROUGH, WE LOOKED AT SCHEDULE OPTIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND FELT THIS GAVE STUDENTS ACCESS TO ALL THEIR CLASSES AND STILL HAVE ELECTIVES AND HAVE PLENTY OF TIME FOR BRAIN BREAKS.

A TIME TO GET UP AND MOST MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS PROBABLY DON'T WANT TO GET UP AT EIGHT O'CLOCK.

BUT IT SAYS GET UP AND EAT BREAKFAST.

YOU'LL GO TO ANOTHER CORE CLASS DEPENDING ON THE DAY, IT VARIES EACH DAY.

YOU MAY THINK THAT SEEMS LIKE A LOT FOR A MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT TO DO, KEEP IN MIND THAT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS ONLY HAVE TWO ELECTIVE COURSES.

THEY HAVE A BULK OF TIME.

WE ASK PARENTS TO THINK ABOUT A TIME FOR HOMEWORK.

ASSIGNMENTS, WILL BEGIN APRILÂ 28TH OR SECONDARY STUDENTS.

HERE YOU SEE A SAMPLE STAFF SCHEDULE.

THIS IS TRYING TO KEEP IN MIND OF OUR EXPECTATIONS AND GIVING PEOPLE FLEXIBILITY.

COMMUNICATION AND ONE HOUR A WEEK.

THERE'S EXAMPLES AND ACTIVITIES THERE.

YOU CAN DO ZOOM LESSONS OR STORY TIME.

WE'RE MAKING SURE PEOPLE RECORD THE LEARNING DEMONSTRATIONS.

OUR SECONDARY COURSES.

WE'VE ASKED TEACHERS TO RECORD THESE LESSONS.

[00:30:02]

IF THE STUDENT CAN'T ACCESS THEM DURING THE DAY, THEY CAN GO BACK AND ACCESS THEM LATER IN THE EVENING.

COLLABORATION THREE HOURS EACH DAY.

THIS IS IN THEIR PL CS USING OUR PLATFORMS AS FAR AS CANVASS AND PRINCIPLE MEETINGS.

ON LINE BOOK STUDIES AND TUTORIALS.

GRADING GUIDELINES.

WE'RE ASKING THE BOARD TO CONSIDER CHANGES FOR OUR POLICY ON GRADING BUT ALSO FOR CALENDAR.

PRIOR TO MARCH THIRTEENTH.

THE FOURTH QUARTER WILL BEGIN ON APRILÂ 14TH WHERE NEW INSTRUCTION WILL BE INTRODUCED.

FOURTH QUARTER WILL BE INTRODUCED BUT NOT ASSESSED.

WE WORKED WITH PRINCIPLES OVER A WEEK AND I'D LIKE THANK ALL OF THEM FOR THEIR COLLECTIVE THINKING ABOUT THIS.

AS WE DEVELOP THESE GRADING GUIDELINES.

THE ELEMENTARY PRINCIPLES HELPED US REALLY THINK ABOUT THE TEACHERS TO DO THE THIRD QUARTER PROGRESS REPORTS AND THEY CAN START THE FOURTH QUARTER AS REGULARLY SCHEDULED.

THE SECONDARY GRADING GUIDELINES.

WE'RE INSPECTING OUR STUDENTS TO INTERACT WITH NEW CONTENT.

FOR THE FOURTH QUARTER WE'RE RECOMMENDING TO IT THE BOARD THAT WE GO WITH A PASS OR NO GRADE.

DURING THE FOURTH QUARTER THE FINAL GRADE FOR THE FORTH QUARTER WILL NOT SHOW UP ON THE STUDENT'S TRANSCRIPTS.

THE FINAL GRADE WILL ALWAYS BE A LETTER GRADE.

AS THE STUDENT EARNS IT WILL COUNT AS A ONE FOR THEIR FINAL GRADE FOR THE YEAR.

I GUESS NOW IS THE TIME FOR QUESTIONS.

IS THAT FINE? IS THERE MORE? THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE TO THE SLIDE.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

OKAY.

I ALSO HAD SOMEONE WHO HAD A QUESTION.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR THE PRESENTATION.

IT'S REALLY IMPRESSIVE.

WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE HARD WORK.

MY QUESTIONS COME MORE FROM MY BACKGROUND.

THEY HAVE TO DO WITH THINGS LIKE THE MAILINGS.

WHEN I HEAR THAT PACKETS WILL BE MAILED HOME, I JUST WANT TO REMIND PEOPLE THAT OFTEN TIMES WHEN WE GET A BIG MAILING IN ANY CASE, MAIL WAS RETURNED FREQUENTLY A LOT OF MAIL CAME BACK THE ASSUMPTION WAS THESE PEOPLE DIDN'T LIVE AT THIS ADDRESS.

MANY OF OUR FAMILIES, OUR SUBLETTERS THEIR MAIL DOESN'T GET DELIVERED.

[00:35:01]

THEY MAY BE THERE BUT THEY DON'T LIVE AT THAT ADDRESS.

I WOULD SAY IF MAIL GETS RETURN, THE NEXT STEP WOULD BE TO TEXT OR TRY TO REACH THEM OR MAKE A PLAN ON HOW TO DELIVER THAT PACKET.

SIMPLY BECAUSE IT REALLY DOESN'T TELL US ANYTHING WHEN THE MAIL IS RETURNED.

I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION BUT I'LL WAIT UNTIL LATER.

THANK YOU.

YES.

THANK YOU.

AS IT WAS INDICATED EARLIER THERE ARE STAFF MEMBERS THAT WE WANT TO ASSIGN SOME ADDITION TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES AND WE TALKED ABOUT THE TEXTING, CALLING AND SO WE WILL BEPARTICULARLY IN THIS CASEI THINK OUR GOAL IT'S SO DIFFICULT WHILE WE'RE TRYING OUR BEST TO ACHIEVE EQUITY.

THE DIFFICULTY IS WHAT YOU JUST IDENTIFIES.

WE'LL BE TRYING TO PROBLEM SOLVE THIS WITH SOME OTHER EMPLOYEES.

ONE SUGGESTION WAS TO TEXT OR CALL.

I JUST WANT YOU TO BE AWARE THAT WE'RE AWARE AND VERY SENSITIVE TO THOSE NEEDS.

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO ECHO WHAT WAS JUST SHAREDOUR TEACHERS WHEN WE COME BACK FROM SPRING BREAK TO ENSURE WE GET THE CONTACT INFORMATION FROM EVERYONE.

WE'LL BE USING OUR REGISTRARS TO ASSIST IN THIS AREA.

TEACHERS THAT ARE SEEING THAT STUDENTS THAT ARE NOT PARTICIPATING, OUR REGISTRARS ARE ASSISTING IN CONTACTING THOSE FAMILIES TO GET THE MOST UPDATED CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THEM.

OKAY.

NEXT UP, I HAVE SIMILAR QUESTION ON THE LINES WITH REGARDS TO CONNECTIVITY.

WE HAVE A NUMBER OF PARENTS WHO ENGLISH IS NOT THEIR FIRST LANGUAGE.

STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THE MIDST OF STRUGGLING ACADEMICALLY.

SENIORS OR STUDENTS THAT LIVE ON THEIR OWN AND DON'T HAVE A FAMILY THAT THEY ARE ENGAGED WITH.

I'M WONDERING WITH THESE VARIETY OF VULNERABLE PARENTS.

IS THERE AN ASSESSMENT BEING DELIVERED WHERE TEACHERS ARE EXPECTED TO REACH OUT X NUMBER OF TIMES AND WHERE ARE WE PULLING THAT INFORMATION THAT WE'RE GOING TO EVENTUALLY KNOW AS A DISTRICT THAT WE HAVE REACHED OUT TO X PERCENTAGE OF FAMILIES AND STILL STRUGGLINGHOW ARE WE MEASURING OUR CONNECTIVITY ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE VULNERABLE PEOPLE THAT WE SERVE HERE IN THE DIVISION.

WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THATTHANKS FOR ASKING THAT QUESTION.

SOME OF THE THING THAT'S WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO DO SPECIFICALLY WITH OUR STUDENTS WHO HAVE THE CHROMEBOOKS AND ON CANVASS.

WE CAN DETERMINE WHO IS LOGGED IN AND INTERACTED WITH THE ACTIVITY THAT'S WE POST.

WHETHER IT'S ZOOM OR SOMETHING THAT WAS POSTED IN OUR CANVASS OR ANY OF OUR PLATFORM SYSTEMS. WE'LL BE MONITORING THAT WAY.

PART OF THE EXPECTATIONS THAT WE HAVE IS JUST MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE HEARING FROM OUR STUDENTS IN THE SAME WAY.

WE HAVE FOLLOWUPS WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING THE SAME THING WITH THIS PROCESS BEING DISTANCE LEARNING.

WHEN TEACHERS DON'T SEE A PARTICULAR STUDENT OR HEAR FROM A STUDENT WHETHER IT'S EMAIL OR ANY TYPE OF COMMUNICATION.

WE ARE STILL GOING TO HAVE OUR STUDENT SUPPORT TEAMS FOLLOWING UP WITH THOSE FAMILIES TO TRY TO SEE WHAT ADDITIONAL SUPPORTS ARE NEEDED IN THAT AREA.

[00:40:05]

WE DON'T HAVE MULTIPLE OPTIONS.

WE CAN'T GO TO THE HOMES OR DO THINGS WE WOULD TYPICALLY DO AS IF WE WERE IN SESSION.

WE CAN DO EMAILS AND PHONE CALLS.

SHE COPIED ME BECAUSE I SAD OHED A STUDENT A FEW MONTHS AGO.

SHE CONTACTED THE PARENT TO SAY WHAT'S GOING ON.

THE MOM HAD SAID SHE WAS TRYING TO GET HIM ON LINE TO DO SOME OF THESE ACTIVITIES AND BE ENGAGED AND APPRECIATED THE FACT HE REACHED OUT TO HER.

THE NEXT DAY, I KNOW YOUR QUESTION WAS NOT FOR PARENTS WHO WERE AT HOME BUT STUDENTS WHO ARE ALONE OR LIVING BY THEMSELVES.

WE'RE GOING TO DO THE SAME PRACTICES WITH THEM TO.

AS YOU SAIDIN PREPARING FOR THIS POTENTIAL CLOSURE WHEN WE THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE A FEW WEEKS.

WE KNOW THERE WERE PARTICULAR CHALLENGES WITH CONTACT STUDENTS.

WE CONTINUE TO HAVE THAT OUT REACH.

WE HAVE TIME THAT WE'RE REACHING OUT TO FAMILIES.

WE HAVE ACCURATE UPDATED CONTACT INFORMATION NOT NECESSARILY MAILING ADDRESS.

WE'VE HAD A FEW INSTANCES WHERE WE HEARD FROM STAFF MEMBERS WHERE PHONES HAVE BEEN DISCONNECTED OR MAKE SURE WE HAVE ACCESS TO ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

A BIG PIECE IS MONITORING WHO IS ON LINE AND WHO IS AVAILABLE.

OUR KIDS ARE LOGGED IN AND HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS.

WE WANT TO REACH OUT TO OUR FAMILIES AND SCHOOLS ARE DEVELOPING IN A SYSTEMATIC WAY TO TRACK THAT.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE LEARNING AS WE PROCEED THROUGH AS A BOARD.

THE TRACKING, THE PERCENTILES OF THIS NUMBER OF STUDENTS HAVE BEEN ENGAGED.

WHAT IS GOING TO BE THE TRACKING FURTHER THAT WE'RE USING TO A OURSELVES AS A DIVISION.

YOU WILL SEE SOME MEASUREMENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO MAKE SURE WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS AND MEETING THE NEEDS.

THERE ARE MULTIPLE THINGS FROM, WE JUST TALKED ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY PIECE BUT WITH SOME OF THE CHECK INS THAT WE'RE DOING AND SUPPORTS THAT WE'RE PROVIDING ALL OF THOSE DATA POINTS WILL BE DOCUMENTED THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS, WE ARE FIRST TRYING TO ROLL OUT TWO POINT O.

AND YOU'LL GET UPDATES AROUND OUR PROGRESS AROUND THAT AREA.

ALL OF THAT INFORMATION IS GOING TO BE COMING TO YOU ALL.

WE'RE ABOUT HALFWAY THROUGH OUR ALLOTTED TIME FOR TODAY.

IF PEOPLE CAN CHOOSE THEIR MOST URGENT QUESTION AND OTHER ONES CAN BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING TO BE ANSWERED AT A LATER TIME.

[00:45:06]

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE UPDATE.

AS I UNDERSTAND THE LEARNING PLAN THERE'S SOME KIND OF HAND BOOK THAT'S BEEN DEVELOP.

WHEN AND WHERE THAT WILL BE POSTED AND HOW PARENTS CAN ACCESS THAT.

THIS IS RELATED TO THE QUESTIONS THAT HAPPENED ALREADY, I WAS ALSO INTERESTED INI KNOW IT WAS ESTIMATED THAT BETWEEN TEN AND FIFTEEN STUDENTS DIDN'T HAVE WIFI ACCESS.

I'M JUST WONDERING, THIS MIGHT BE SOMETHING WE'LL GET MORE INFORMATION ON BUT JUST AN UPDATE ON HOW MANY OF OUR STUDENTS ARE LACKING THE HOME WIFI ACCESS.

I'M ALSO INTERESTED IN JUST A NUMBERAN ESTIMATE OR FIGURES ABOUT HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE NOT ABLE TO NOT CONTACT AT ALL.

BEING CONCERNED ABOUT STUDENTS THAT THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH.

HOW MANY STUDENT NZ THE SCHOOL DIVISION CAN FALL IN THAT CRITERIA.

LET ME ANSWER THE FIRST QUESTION.

THAT'S GOING TO BE THE ROLLED OUT TO OUR STAFF AS WELL AS POSTED FOR OUR COMMUNITY FOR A C PS AT HOME WEBSITE AND INFORMATION GOING OUT TODAY.

[00:50:06]

WE'LL SPEND IF THE BOARD APPROVES FOR THE CALENDAR CHANGE, APRILÂ 13TH WILL BE A PROFESSIONAL LEARNING DAY.

IT WILL AFFORD US AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE DIFFERENT SESSIONS WITH GROUPS OF TEACHERS WHETHER IT'S AT THE SCHOOL LEVEL AS WELL AS AT THE DIVISION LEVEL AROUND THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF THE CONTINUITY OF LEARNING PLAN.

AND HELPING TEACHERS TO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS ISN'T LIKE WE'RE STARTING OVER WE'RE EXPANDING ON THE CONTINUITY OF LEARNING THAT WE INITIALLY HAD.

WE'RE MOVING AT RAPID SPEED.

IT STILL HAS TO GO TO TRANSLATION.

THAT'S GOING TO GO OUT AS WELL IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES.

WE DO NOT WANTWE'VE BEEN EMPHASIZING THIS TO OUR STAFF AND PRINCIPALS.

PEOPLE CAN CHOOSE THROUGH THE LEARNING PLAN IF THEY CHOOSE TO.

THAT'S WHY WE WANTED TO HAVE THE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING PLAN ON WEDNESDAY P.

EVERYBODY REALLY NEEDS TO TAKE SOME TIME OFF TO REFILL THEIR CUPS.

WHEN WE COME BACK WE'LL HAVE THAT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING DAY TO HAVE THAT INFORMATION.

ALSO AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL IT'S GOING TO BE EXTENDED BY TWO WEEKS.

IT GIVES US A LOT OF FLEXIBILITY.

WE DON'T WANT STAFF TO FEEL WE'RE GOING TO USE OR ALLOCATE ONE DAY.

THAT'S NOT THE EXPECTATION.

THAT WILL BE TOO OVERWHELMING TO EXPECT OF OUR STAFF.

[00:55:03]

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE DOING THE SAME WAY WE'RE DOING OUR PLANNING

[Item 4]

[Items 5 & 6]

[01:35:33]

DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR.

[01:40:31]

USING OUR PLANNING TIMES OR COLLABORATION TIMES THAT WE INCORPORATED IN OUR WEEKS

[01:40:36]

FOR STAFF TO DEVELOP LESSONS AND MAKE RECORDINGS.

[01:40:40]

IF YOU CAN TALK ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY QUESTION AND THE INTERNET ACCESS.

[01:40:43]

WHO OUT THERE IS MEETING AS INTERNET ACCESS.

[01:45:08]

WE HAVE BETWEEN SIX AND SEVEN HUNDRED STUDENTS.

[01:45:10]

WE HAVE IDENTIFYING SEVEN HUNDRED DEVICES COMING OUR WAY.

[01:45:12]

THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO ARRIVE AT THE THIRD PARTY VENDOR THE WEEK OF APRILÂ 13TH.

[01:45:14]

THE OTHER VENDOR IS SAYING POSSIBLY THE END OF NEXT WEEK OR THE FOLLOWING.

[01:45:16]

FIVE HUNDRED ARE GOING TO HAVE TO BE DISTRIBUTED DIFFERENTLY.

WE'RE WORKING ON HOW WE'RE DOING THAT.

I FEEL GOOD ABOUT OUR NUMBERS LINING UP.

WE KNOW THERE'S MORE NEEDPUT SOME MOBILE HOT SPOTS IN THAT.

A BEST ESTIMATE IS THE WEEK OF THE 13TH.

I DON'T KNOW IF ANYONE ORDERED ANYTHING ON AMAZON.

THEY CHANGED THE ARRIVAL DATE.

LOGISTICS ARE RIGHT NOW ARE CHALLENGING.

OUR NUMBER IS RIGHT RIGHT NOW AS FAR AS SIXTY SEVEN HUNDRED.

I'M HOPING WE'LL BE ABLE TO GIVE A SOLUTION THERE.

I ALSO WANT TO SAY OUR PTAS ARE REACHING OUT SAYING HOW CAN WE HELP FUND THIS AND WORKING WITH THEM TO SPRING TO ACTION THAT CAN BE BENEFICIAL FOR US.

WE PREVIOUSLY ENGAGED IN TEACHER TALKS.

THAT WILL HELP TEACHERS UNPACK THE QUESTION.

I HAVE NEXT IN LINEWE NEED TO MOVE ON AND VOTE ON THIS TODAY.

WE NEED TO MAKE A DETERMINATION ABOUT THIS CALENDAR ITEM WHICH IS WHAT WE'RE UNDER STILL.

FIRST OFF I'D JUST LIKE TO ECHO EVERYONE'S GRATITUDE.

THE EFFORT YOU'RE PUTTING FORTH.

MY QUESTION SORT OF RELATES TO THE TRANSITIONS THAT ARE ABOUT TO HAPPEN IN THE QUARTERS FOR THE ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOL.

THERE'S SPRING BREAK AND NEW MATERIALS THAT WILL IMMEDIATELY BE INTRODUCED ON THE 14TH.

FOR THE SECONDARY I UNDERSTAND THE FOURTH QUARTER IS NOT GOING TO START UNTIL THE 28TH.

WE WANT TO AFFORD ALL KIDS THE OPPORTUNITY TO CATCH UP AND GET ALL THEIR WORK IN.

MY QUESTION GOES TO THE TWO WEEK INTERIM PERIOD.

BECAUSE POTENTIALLY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THERE IS THREE WEEKS OF NO NEW TELL BEING INTRODUCED.

I'M ALWAYS CONCERNED ABOUT LEARNING LOSS AND KEEPING MOMENTUM.

AND KEEPING OUR KIDS ENGAGED AND FOCUSED AND STUFF.

I'M WONDERING IS THERE A WAY TO SORT OF NOT PREJUDICE OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE PERHAPS GOING TO BE MAKING UP WORK DURING THAT PERIOD DURING THE SEVENTEENTH AND IN THAT TWO WEEK PERIOD BUT AT THE SAME TIME ALSO MAYBE NOT INTRODUCE NEW WORK IN THE SENSE OF THE NEW WORK FOR THE QUARTER SUCH THAT KIDS FULL BEHIND BUT PROVIDE KIDS WITH OPPORTUNITIES FOR ANDTAB INTO COURSES THAT'S NOT GOING IT WORK.

THAT'S NOT GOING TO BE EQUITABLE.

EVERYBODY IS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO TUNE IN.

IF YOU'RE DOING THAT LIVE TO GET THAT EXPERIENCE AND WE HAVE TO PUT ALL THOSE FACTORS INTO CONSIDERATION.

WHEN INTRODUCING SOME OF THIS NEW MATERIAL.

WHAT WE'RE HOPING THAT WE'RE DOING IS WE'RE EXPANDING ON SOME OF THE KNOWLEDGE THAT STUDENTS HAVE AND STANDARDS THAT ARE NOTTHEY'RE NOT DOING A LECTURE OR DOING A REPLICATION OF WHAT THEY DO IN CLASS.

JUST DOING IT ON ZOOM FROM THEIR HOMES.

THAT IS A PART OF THAT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO DO STARTING WHEN WE GET BACK ON APRIL THIRTEENTH.

WHEN WE HAVE TO ALSO KNOW THAT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING DAY, THAT THAT IS NOT THE ONLY DAY THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE BUILDING PROFESSIONAL CAPACITY WITH OUR STAFF.

THE EXPECTATION IS THAT TWO HOURS PER WEEK YOU'RE ENGAGED IN SOME FORM OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING.

DO YOU WANT TO ELABORATE ON THAT FOR ME PLEASE.

YES, I DO, I'D ALSO LIKE TO ASKTHAT IS ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN PARTICULAR TO BE ABLE TO SUBMIT ASSIGNMENTS THAT THEYTHAT'S THE ADVANTAGE OF THAT TIME.

IT GIVES THE STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SUBMIT LATE ASSIGNMENTS FOR RESUBMIT ASSIGNMENTS FOR RECONSIDERATION.

I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT WITH THE PRIORITIZATION WITH THE STANDARDS.

SOME OF THOSE STANDARDS WERE ADDRESSED FIRST OR SECOND OR THIRD SEMESTER.

THEY COME BACK AROUND THOSE STANDARDSTHE GOOD THING IS THAT THE TEACHERS AT ALL THE LEVELS, THEY HAVE ACCESS THOSE STANDARDS.

IN DOUBT AS WELL, THEY WILL BE LOOKING VERY HEAVILY AT THE GPA.

ARE WE PUTTING THEM AT A DISADVANTAGE WITH THE PASS/FAIL WHATEVER WE'RE CALLING IT.

I THINK I SAW SOMETHING IN WRITING THAT SEVERAL COLLEGES WERE ALSO ADOPTING THIS PASS FAIL APPROACH.

DO YOU WANT TO SPEAK TO THAT.

I THINK IT WAS MENTIONING THAT THE UNIVERSITY IS ALSO TRYING TO DETERMINE HOW STUDENTS ARE SUCCESSFUL AND CONSIDERING A SIMILAR FRAMEWORK.

THANK YOU.

WHEN WE WENT AROUND THE GRADING QUESTION ORIGINALLY WE WENT THROUGH SHOULD WE GIVE LETTER GRADES BECAUSE WE WERE THINKING WHAT OF WOULD BENEFIT STUDENTS THE MOST.

IT WAS A GRADE IDEA WHEN WE SAW OUR NEIGHBORS WERE GOING WITH A NO PARK.

A P/NO GRADE.

AN INCENTIVE TO EARN A ONE HUNDRED FOR THE FIRST QUARTER.

IF YOU GET A P FOR THE FOURTH QUARTER, YOU COULD HAVE A HIGHER GRADE THAN YOU WOULD ACHIEVE IF WE WERE IN A REGULAR SCHOOL SESSION.

IT'S IN THE PLAN WHERE WE GIVE SOME EXAMPLES OF A STUDENT HAD BB AND THREE BS AND A P.

COUNTS AS A HUNDRED PERCENT.

WE WANTED TO GO IN A DIRECTION THAT HAD FLEXIBLE AND GO FOR THE SAME TIME.

WE WERE SPECIFICALLY THINKING ABOUT AS YOU SAID JUNIORS APPLYING FOR COLLEGE, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN.

WORKING ON A STATEMENT FOR ALL OF OUR REPORT CARDS.

REMEMBER WE HAD A PANDEMIC.

THAT WILL ALSO BE ON OUR PROGRESS REPORTS AND STUDENTS MOVING FORWARD.

OKAY.

THANKS FOR YOUR QUESTIONS AND FOR THE PRESENTATION AND ALL THE WORK THAT HAS GONE INTO THIS.

THE ITEM FOR US THE SUPERINTENDENT IS THAT WE APPROVE THE I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE CHANGES FOR THE ACADEMIC CALENDARS.

SECOND.

I WILL CALL FOR A VOTE ON THE ITEM AND THE CLERK WILL DO THE ROLL CALL.

(ROLL CALL).

THE VOTE IS NINE AND THE MOTION PASS.

THANK YOU, VERY MUCH.

NOW WE'RE ONTO THE NEXT ITEM WHICH IS THE GRADING POLICY.

I'M NOT SURE IF THERE'S ADDITIONAL PRESENTATION HERE.

I'LL TURN IT OVER TO YOU.

NO.

BUT WE DID WANT TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT BOARD MEMBERS MIGHT HAVE HAD IN REGARDS TO THE SCHOOL CALENDAR WHICH I KNOW IS NOT GOING TO BE VOTED ON.

WE WANTED TO OPEN SOME DISCUSSION BECAUSE WE DID INCLUDE THAT IN THE PRESENTATION.

AGAIN, MINDFUL OF OUR TIME TODAY.

WE HAVE THIS AND THE Q AND A.

I KNOW THERE'S SOME Q AND A ISSUES AND TOPICS.

IF PEOPLE DO HAVE QUESTIONS THEY CAN CERTAINLY ASK THEM NOW BUT ALSO SUBMIT THEM IN WRITING ABOUT THE GRADING POLICY SINCE WE DO HAVE A COUPLE WEEKS NOW.

I'M NOT MEANING TO DISCOURAGE QUESTIONS NOW BUT JUST KEEP IN MIND THE TIME AND THE STUFF WE HAVE LEFT AND THE TIMING OF THIS VOTE IS NOT FOR TWO WEEKS.

I HAVE A QUICK CLARIFYING QUESTION.

I APOLOGIZE FOR MISUNDERSTANDING.

YOU SAID JUNE BEING TOO LONG.

WITH REGARDS TO THE CALENDAR WE'RE STILL PROCEEDING WITH THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL BEING WHAT IT WAS.

ARE YOU THINKING THAT THERE'S ANY SITUATION WHERE THE LAST DAY WOULD BE DIFFERENTLY PROPOSED.

THERE HASN'T BEEN A PROPOSAL TO CHANGE THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL, NO.

I WOULD SUGGEST NOW THAT THIS IS IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN WE'LL BE HEARING FROM PARENTS.

WE CAN SUBMIT OUR QUESTIONS KNOWING THAT SPRING BREAK IS STARTING BUT THEY'LL BE THERE FOR WORK WEEK BEFORE WE HAVE OUR VOTE FOR THE TOPIC.

NOW, I THINK WE CAN MOVE ONTO THE REPORT AND THE QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION.

I WOULD LIKE TO UTILIZE THIS TIME FOR Q AND A VERSUS THE REPORT.

I WILL LOOK FOR PEOPLE'S QUESTIONS NOW.

THANK YOU, EVERYONE.

I HAVE QUESTIONS RELATED TO MORE OF THE WORK THAT'S HAPPENING THAT IS INVOLVED BECAUSE OF THE CLOSING.

MY QUESTIONS ARE PARTICULARLY IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE SCHOOL NURSES.

I DO WANT TO START OFF BY SAYING THAT I THINK WE CONTINUE TO THIS ISN'T AN UNFAMILIAR SITUATION, WE MISS OPPORTUNITIES TO REALLY ENGAGE OUR EMPLOYEES ON THEIR WORK.

AND REALLY HAVE INPUT FROM THEM ON THEIR WORK.

WE'VE TALKED ABOUT HOW WE REALLY WANT TO SHIFT FROM A TOP DOWN APPROACH TO REALLY HAVING OUR SENIOR LEADERSHIP BE A SUPPORT AND SOMETIMES I THINK, YOU KNOW, WE GET SOMEWHAT NEGATIVE REACTIONS FROM PERSONNEL WHEN WE JUST DON'T COMMUNICATE THINGS IN AI DON'T WANT TO SAY A NICE WAY.

JUST A NICE WAY THAT IS WHERE WE'RE TRYING TO PULL PEOPLE INTO THE WORK SO THEY FEEL COMFORTABLE DOING IT.

RECENTLY OUR NURSES WERE ASKED TO SUPPORT SOME OF THE WORK REGARDING THE PANDEMIC WITH THE ALEXANDRIA HEALTH DEPARTMENT.

I WANT TO USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO ASK SOME QUESTIONS AND CLARIFY.

I ALSO WANT TO SAY, I DO IN A SENSE REALLY HAVE A STRONG REQUEST.

I THINK GIVEN THAT THIS IS WORK THAT'S GOING TO BE DONE.

I FIND IT MORE THAN APPROPRIATE TO HAVE SOME FORM OF WRITTEN AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA AND THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAT OUTLINES AND CLARIFIES AND IS VERY CLEAR ON WHAT THE AGREEMENT IS AND WHAT OUR SCHOOL NURSES ARE BEING ASKED TO DO.

I'M PUTTING THAT OUT THERE BEFORE MY QUESTIONS.

I GUESS I'M GOING TOIT'S HARD, I DON'T WANT TO TAKE UP TOO MUCH TIME.

I'LL TRY TO ASK MULTIPLE QUESTIONS IN ONE SHOT AND GET THEM ALL ANSWERED.

THE FIRST ONE IS, I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU GUYS TO SHARE HOWIS WHAT IS BEING ASKED OF OUR NURSES TO WORK WITH THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT HAVE WE DETERMINED THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS CONTRACTUALLY APPROPRIATE FOR THEM.

I WANT SOME EXPLANATION SHARED AS TO WHY THE NURSES CANNOT DO THE WORK REMOTELY AND WHAT'S THE EXPLANATION FOR THAT? SECONDLY, UNDER CONDITIONS WHERE SOME NURSES ARE GOING TO IN ANY SITUATIONWHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS IN WHICH NURSES ARE GOING TO BE REQUIRED TO TAKE LEAVE IF

[01:50:01]

THEY CHOOSE NOT TO GO TO THE ALEXANDRIA HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO NOT COMPLETE THE TASK.

THAT'S THREE QUESTIONS.

THANK YOU.

FIRST OF ALL, THANK YOU.

I APPRECIATE THE QUESTION.

I KNOW THERE HAVE BEEN SOME QUESTIONS IN THE COMMUNITY.

I'LL DO A REVIEW AND TRY TO HIT YOUR QUESTIONS AS I'M GOING THROUGH THAT.

JUST TO GIVE A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND OF HOW THIS SITUATION EVOLVED.

LAST FRIDAY WE RECEIVED A REQUEST FROM THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT, ANY REQUESTS ARE CHANNELING THROUGH THE EMERGENCY PROCESS RIGHT NOW.

THOSE REQUESTS GO TO THE CITY MANAGER.

WE WENT FORWARD FROM THERE.

BASICALLY, OBVIOUSLY IT HAS BEEN STATED THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF THIS MEETING, THIS IS AN ATYPICAL REQUEST.

WE'RE IN A PAN LEMIC.

THIS IS PARTICULARLY UNIQUE TO ALEXANDRIA BECAUSE OF THE UNIQUENESS OF OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM, OUR LOCAL JURISDICTIONS DO NOT HAVE HEALTH STAFF LIKE WE HAVE OUR RNS.

WE'RE BLESSED TO HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THE SCHOOL.

KNOWING WE'RE IN THIS MEDICAL CRISIS.

IT WILL BE CONSIDERED BECAUSE WE HAVE RN'S IN OUR SCHOOL.

A COUPLE COMMENTS WERE MADEIT'S A DIFFERENT DAY.

WE'VE HAD TO CHANGE OUR THOUGHT AND HOW TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS.

WE'VE HAD TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS IN OUR WE SERVE OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

WE SAY THAT KNOWING THAT IT'S ALSO AN UNPRECEDENTED TIME IN HOW PEOPLE ARE PROCESSING THE CHANGE AND EMOTIONS.

EVERY PERSON IS DEALING WITH ANXIETY AND UNCERTAINTY NOT KNOWING WHAT IS GOING TO COME NEXT FOR US.

WE CONSULTED WITH LEGAL TO MAKE SURE THIS WAS CONTRACTUALLY PERMISSIBLE.

IT IS IN FACT PERMISSIBLE.

IT'S ALSO PERMISSIBLE BY A VARIETY OF CODES AND REGULATIONS BECAUSE WE'RE IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY AND IT'S NOT A TRADITIONAL REQUEST FOR US.

WE HAVE OUT SIDE OF THE GROUP.

TO PROVIDE ESSENTIAL SERVICES.

A BUS DRIVER MAY BE DELIVERING MEALS AS OPPOSED TO DRIVING STUDENTS.

IT'S A DIFFERENT DAY RIGHT NOW.

IT'S A TIME OF UNCERTAINTY AND WE'RE TRYING TO BALANCE THOSE FACTORS AND ALSO THE COMMUNICATION WHICH YOU RIGHTLY HIGHLIGHTED WITH THE FACT THAT THIS IS A SITUATION OF LIFE AND DEATH IN MANY CASES AND THAT WE DON'T HAVE ALWAYS A LOT OF TIME WHEN THESE REQUESTS COME IN.

I SHARED THIS WITH THE NURSES SM THE REQUEST CAME FRIDAY AND THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT WAS READY TO DO TRAINING ON SUNDAY.

CAN WE PUSH BACK A FEW DAYS AND MAKE SURE WE'RE ON SOLID FOOTING.

WE MET WITH THE NURSES AND HAD A CONVERSATION.

IT'S BALANCING EVERYBODY'S EMOTIONS WITH THE CRITICAL NEEDS OF THE EMERGENCY SUPPORT ON OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT WHO HAS BEEN THERE FOR US THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.

JUST A FEW PARTS OF OUR REVIEW.

THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS THE NURSES HAD THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.

HOW DOES THIS BALANCE WITH THE GOVERNOR'S ORDER.

IT DOES HAVE SPECIFIC LANGUAGE FOR ANY EMPLOYEES WHO ARETHERE IS SPECIFIC LANGUAGE THAT'S HIGHLIGHTED ABOUT EXCEPTIONS FOR HEALTH CARE AND HEALTH SERVICESMEETINGS EVERY THURSDAY.

I KNOW FROM LOOKING AT THE NOTES THAT THE OPPORTUNITIES TO SAY THIS IS A UNIQUE TIME FOR US AND A TIME FOR OUR NURSES TO DEMONSTRATE HOW VALUABLE THEY ARE.

THEY HAVE GIVEN SPECIFIC THINGS THAT OUR SCHOOL NURSES COULD DO WHILE NOT IN THE BUILDINGS RIGHT NOW.

ONE IS ASSIST WITH THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT.

ALSO THEY SUGGESTED THE MEDICAL RESERVE CORP.

I THINK THIS IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE.

WE ARE TRULY BLESSED.

BEFORE THIS CAME FORWARD HOW CAN WE SUPPORT AND WHAT CAN WE DO.

A SUGGESTION FROM THE VDOE WHICH IS NOT A SITUATION THAT WE'RE IN RIGHT NOW IS PROVIDING CHILD CARE FOR MEDICAL PERSONNEL WHILE MEETING THE GOVERNOR'S REQUIRE MS. WE AREN'T IN THAT SITUATION RIGHT NOW.

A QUESTION THAT THE NURSE IT'S BROUGHT UP.

HOW DO THEY BALANCE THE SUPPORT OF THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES.

ONE OF THE NURSES SPECIFICALLY BEING ASKED TO DOTHE HEALTH DEPARTMENT REQUEST IS SPECIFIC TO BEING ON SITE AT THE ALEXANDRIA HEALTH DEPARTMENT MAKING CALLS AS THE INVESTIGATION TEAM TO MAKE CALLS FOR POSITIVE CASES.

THERE'S NOT COMMUNITY EXPOSURE OTHER THAN THOSE STAFF MEMBERS AT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT RIGHT NOW.

SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT.

PHYSICAL SOCIAL DISTANCING, HAND WASHING.

OUR NURSES WOULD HAVE THEIR OWN OFFICE SPACES.

THE REQUEST CAME THROUGH FRIDAY.

CONVERSATIONS WERE HAD OVER THE WEEKEND.

SPOKE WITH THE NURSES BY EMAIL.

WE HAD A ZOOM TO ADDRESS A NUMBER OF THEIR CONCERNS.

THE NURSES WHO WERE ABLE TO ASK TO REPORT TO THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT WEDNESDAY MORNING FROM TEN TO ONE.

THEY DID NOT NEED TO REPORT YESTERDAY OR TODAY.

WE'RE ON SPRING BREAK NEXT WEEK.

WE'RE LOOKING TO RESUME THAT SUPPORT AFTER SPRING BREAK STARTS.

ITI THINK WE HAVE FIVE NURSES THAT SAID THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO DO THAT.

THEY'LL BE COMPENSATED OF COURSE.

IF THEY ARE ABLE TO GIVE THAT TIME.

THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT IS IN CRITICAL NEED.

AS I SAID, THEY ARE LOOKING TO PICK IT UP AFTER THE BREAK.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST QUESTIONS WE RECEIVED IS THE TELE WORKING AND BEING ON SITE.

LAST SATURDAY MORNING WHEN WE WERE WORKING ON THIS, IT WAS THE FIRST QUESTION THAT DR. HUTCHINGS ASKED.

WHY CAN'T WE MAKE THESE CALLED REMOTELY.

IT HAS BEEN THE GUIDANCE THAT THEY NEED THESE CALLS TO BE MADE ON SITE FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS.

CONFIDENTIALITY, THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE.

THERE'S MEDICAL SUPERVISION AND SUPPORT INCLUDING OUR SCHOOL COORDINATOR.

THAT SAID WE ARE IN CONVERSATION TO MONITOR ARE THERE THINGS THAT COULD BE DONE IN LIEU OF BEING ON SITE.

THEIR HEALTH STAFF ON SITE.

WE KNOW THIS WAS A QUESTION AS WELL, WE KNOW THERE'S ANXIETY RIGHT NOW.

WE WANT TO BE SENSITIVE TO PEOPLE EXPERIENCING ANXIETY.

EXCLUSIONARY CRITERIA.

THIS PARALLELS THE GOVERNOR AND C D C RECOMMENDATIONS.

WE HAVE EMPLOYEES OVER SIXTY FIVE.

THOSE EMPLOYEES ARE NOT BEING ASKED TO GO TO THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT.

IF WE HAVE EMPLOYEES AT SEVERE RISK FOR HEALTH DISEASE.

WE'RE LEARNING OTHER CONDITIONS THAT COULD HAVE SEVERE DISEASE RISK.

THEY MEET THE EXCLUSIONARY CRITERIA.

WE HAD CONVERSATION WITH THE NURSES THAT THEY HAD SOMEONE IN THEIR HOME THAT MEETS THAT CRITERIA.

WE HAVE EIGHT SCHOOL NURSES.

EIGHT OUT OF TWENTY TWO.

THEY ARE NOT BEING ASKED TO GO OR TAKE LEAVE.

THEY HAVE ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES.

THIS HAS A BALANCE OF SUPPORTING OUR SCHOOL NEEDS.

TRYING TO FIND A COMPROMISE AND RECOGNIZING THE URGENT NEED FOR THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT.

WE'VE SAID THIS TO OUR NURSES THAT IF YOU'RE NOT COMFORTABLE GOING, THEN OF COURSE, YOU ARE WELCOME IT TAKE YOUR LEAVE.

WE HAVE GONE THROUGH AND IDENTIFIED THIS AS A TOP PRIORITY OF OUR HEALTH SERVICES RIGHT NOW.

I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH THAT WE KNOW IT'S ATYPICAL.

I TRIED TO ASSURE THE NURSES THEY ARE NOT THE ONLY STAFF GROUP TO THINK OUT SIDE THE BOX.

BECAUSE OF ESSENTIAL SERVICES.

WE HAVE BUS DRIVERS AND FOOD SERVICES.

THEY ARE HANDING DIRECTLYWE HAVE NO OTHER OPTION UNLESS WE DON'T WANT TO FEED OUR KIDS.

THE HEALTH SERVICES ARE A TOP PRIORITY.

I HOPE I GOT YOUR QUESTIONS ALL THERE.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I DID NOT.

I TRIED TO DO A GENERAL REVIEW THAT REMAINED FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSES.

I COMMUNICATIONED WITH THEM YESTERDAY, THAT COMMUNICATION IS IS ON GOING.

I THINK YOU DID.

MY KEY THINGS AT THIS POINT IS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO EMPHASIZE IS I THINK IT'S MORE THAN APPROPRIATEON ANOTHER THING OF OUR WEAKNESSES THAT WE CONTINUE TO WORK ON.

ALL THE THINGS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.

GOING BACK AND FORTH.

WITH EMAILS.

WE'RE CONTRIBUTING TO ANXIETY OF EMPLOYEESWE'RE ALL DEALING WITH ANXIETY WHEN WE APPROACH THESE ISSUES.

WE NEED TO TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION WITH THE STAFF AS WELL.

WITH THE CITY TOO.

IT'S JUST AN AGREEMENT TO LAYWE APPRECIATE ALL THE STAFF AND WHAT THEY ARE DOING RIGHT NOW.

PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ASKED TO DO THINGS THAT WERE NOT IN MY INITIAL JOB DESCRIPTION.

WE WERE NOT PLANNING TO DO BOARD MEETINGS LIKE THIS AND ZOOM IN, WE'RE ALL IN VERY AWKWARD SITUATIONS AND I THINK WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO GIVE EACH OTHER GRACE AND THE UNFORTUNATE THING IS THAT SOMETIMES THERE IS A SENSE OF URGENCY NOT THAT WE WANTED THEM TO START ON SUNDAY.

SOMETIMES WE DON'T HAVE THE FLEXIBILITY TO SAY LET'S WAIT A COUPLE WEEKS OR BRING EVERYBODY TOGETHER.

IT'S DOING A ZOOM OR FIGURING OUT WHEN EVERYBODY CAN TALK.

IT'S MUCH MORE COMPLICATE.

IT'S NOT LIKE EVERYBODY IS GOING TO BE IN THE OFFICE TOMORROW TO MEET.

IT MAKES MATTERS MORE DIFFICULT.

WE WANT THE NURSES TO KNOW THAT WE DO APPRECIATE THEM AND WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND THIS WILL HAVE AN IMPACT NOT ONLY FOR A C PS BUT FOR THE ENTIRE CITY OF THE SUPPORT THAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW.

WITH THIS PANDEMIC WE'RE SEEING NUMBERS INCREASE EVERYDAY.

NOW WE'RE ATI FORGOT THE NUMBER.

SIXTY SEVEN AS OF EIGHT THIS MORNING.

LAST WEEK WE'RE WE TALKING ABOUT NINE.

THIS HAS TO BE AN ALL HANDS ON DECK APPROACH.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYBODY IS WORKING TOGETHER AND WANT TO STILL HAVE FLEXIBILITY AND EMPATHY FOR ALL OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS WHO ARE PART OF THIS.

I'M GOING TO STOP WITH THAT AND SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR NURSES AND STAFF WHO ARE ESSENTIAL AND THE ONES WORKING REMOTELY.

I AMAZED WITH EVERY COMMUNICATION THAT I GET.

I UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYBODY IS UNDER TREMENDOUS PRESSURE RIGHT NOW.

[01:55:02]

I WANT TO ASK A QUICK QUESTION ABOUT THE UP COMING SCHOOL YEAR BELIEVE IT OR NOT.

THERE ARE SOME TIME SENSITIVE ITEMS THAT WE NEED TO KEEP OUR EYE ON AS WELL RIGHT NOW.

THE PRINCIPAL SEARCH.

THE HEAD OF SCHOOL.

I WANT TO ASK FOR A QUICK UPDATE ON HOW THAT SEARCH IS GOING.

I KNOW IT IS STILL GOING.

BECAUSE RIGHT NOW I THINK YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE PANEL INTERVIEW STAGE.

IF YOU COULD GIVE A QUICK UPDATE.

I'M THINKING OF DOUGLAS, THEY'RE IN A EXTRA UNIQUE SITUATION.

IF YOU COULD JUST GIVE US AN UPDATE ON HOW THOSE SEARCHES ARE GOING.

I KNOW THAT DR. WILL KINS HAD AN MEETING.

HE HAD TO SIGN OFF AT ONE THIRTY.

WE ARE CONTINUING TO WITH OUR SEARCH FOR ALL OF OUR PRINCIPAL VACANCIES BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE STILL APPLYING AND LOOKING FOR JOBS RIGHT NOW.

WE DON'T WANT TO MISS THAT OPPORTUNITY OF GETTING THE BEST CANDIDATES THAT THE COUNTRY HAS TO OFFER WHERE THEY CAN'T GO ANYWHERE ELSE.

WE'RE MOVING ON WITH THAT.

WHAT WE HAVE TRANSITIONED TO THOUGH IS HAVING ALL OF OUR INTERVIEW PANELS, ARE BEING DONE VIRTUALLY THROUGH ZOOM.

IT'S STILL THE SAME CONCEPT AND FORMAT.

THERE'S STILL A PARENT REPRESENTATIVE.

ADMINISTRATIVE REPRESENTATIVE, A TEACHER REPRESENTATIVE.

ALL THOSE CATEGORIES ARE REPRESENTED BUT IT'S THROUGH ZOOM.

IT'S STILL WILL ALSO BE A COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITY.

IT'S GOING TO BE MORE ROBUST BECAUSE IT'S OPEN ON ZOOM.

THAT IS STILL HAPPENING.

WE HAVE STARTED THIS WEEK OUR FOCUS GROUPS AT JEFFERSON HOUSTON FOR MAKING SURE THAT WE ESTABLISH OUR LEADERSHIP PROFILE AND BEGIN TO SELECT CANDIDATES TO COME IN AND BE A PART OF THE FIRST PANEL OF INTERVIEWS.

HE IS WORKING ON THAT.

THAT IS STILL MOVING FORWARD.

DOUGLAS IS STILL WORKING ON THE TEACHES.

WE'RE CONTACTING OUR VIRTUAL PANELISTS SO THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ZOOM.

WE'RE STILL MOVING FORWARD AND MAKING THOSE OFFERS.

HONESTLY APPLICATIONS ARE STILL COMING IN.

I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS.

THE FIRST ONE BEING FOR THOSE NURSES THAT ARE NOT IN AGREEMENT TO WORK AT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHY THEY HAVE TO TAKE LEAVE AND NOT CONTINUE TO DO THE WORK THEY WERE DOING AT THEIR HOMES.

FOR THE NURSE THAT'S ARE GOING TO WORK AT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT, CAN WE ENSURE THAT PROPER SOCIAL PHYSICAL DISTANCING IS FOLLOWED, WHAT I'M HEARING IS THAT IT WAS NOT.

IF THEY'RE IN SUCH A CRITICAL NEED, WHY WEREN'T OUR NURSES CALLED IN THAT NEXT DAY OFF THEY WENT THROUGH THE ORIENTATION.

WHY WAS TWO DAYS, IF THEY ARE IN CRITICAL CONDITION FOR VOLUNTEERS WHY WEREN'T OUR NURSES WORKING THE NEXT TWO DAYS.

I CAN ANSWER THOSE.

FIRST OF ALL AS I MENTIONED WHAT WE DO IS PRIORITIZE WHAT NEEDS ARE IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM WITH RESPECT TO SCHOOL HEALTH.

WHEN WE LOOK AT WHAT IS THE NEED OF THE COMMUNITY RIGHT NOW, I'M ON TWO TO THREE CALLS A DAY WITH THE CITY AND THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE SERVICES.

I KNOW THE NUMBERS AND WHAT IS HAPPENING A THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND BRINGING THEM BACK AND LOOKING AT THE IMPORTANT SERVICES THAT THE NURSES ARE PROVIDING AND THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING THROUGH THE CLOSURES.

TRYING TO ADHERE TO THE REQUEST HAVING AS MANY NURSES AS POSSIBLE.

HOW MANY NURSES MEET THE EXCLUSIONARY CRITERIA.

WE'RE CONFIDENT THOSE NURSES CAN PICK UP THE SLACK FOR THE OTHER NURSES.

THIS IS THEIR WORK ASSIGNMENT AND JOB RESPONSIBILITY.

IF YOU'RE CHOOSING WHAT IS NOT TO DO WHAT IS ASSIGNED, WE'RE GIVING THE OPTION TO TAKE LEAVE.

THIS IS WHAT THE NURSES ARE BEING ASKED TO DO.

THAT'S THE RESPONSE, THE LEAVE IS TRYING TO FIND A MIDDLE GROUND OF UNDERSTANDING THE CHALLENGES AND UNCERTAINTY.

WE DISCUSSED THAT WITH THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT.

THERE ARE TIMES THAT THINGS COME UP THAT ARE VERY CHALLENGING AND OUT SIDE OF OUR SCOPE.

AS SCHOOL STAFF MEMBERS WE ASK OUR QUESTIONS AND MAKE SURE THAT OUR VOICE IS HEARD.

THE NURSES HAVE DONE THIS WEEK IN A COUPLE DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES AND WE'RE EXPECTING IF THEY ARE SAYING THEY ARE NOT COMFORTABLE, THEY CAN USE THEIR LEAVE OPTION.

WE HAVE TO WORK WITH WHAT WE'VE IDENTIFIED AS THE TOP PRIORITY.

I CAN FOLLOWUP WITH THE QUESTION ABOUT THE SOCIAL DISTANCING.

I HAVE CHECKED ON THE NURSES THREE TIMES DURING THE TRAINING.

THEY WERE DISTANCED FROM WHAT I SAW.

I JUST ALSO WANTED TO SHARE SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT THE SITUATION WITH THE NURSES.

THIS ISSUE WITH THE ESSENTIAL SERVICE WORKERS IS NOT JUST AN A C PS CHALLENGE.

IT'S A CHALLENGE NATIONALLY.

I'M VERY GRATEFUL FOR THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE OUT THERE PUTTING THEMSELVES POTENTIALLY AT RISK BY BEING IN THE COMMUNITY.

I JUSTMY THOUGHTS ABOUT IT ARE THIS IS A REALLYIT'S A REALLY PERSONAL DECISION FOR PEOPLE.

EVERYBODY HAS A DIFFERENT LIFE CIRCUMSTANCES.

DIFFERENT HEALTH CONDITIONS.

A SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL STANDPOINT.

THINK ABOUT WHERE WE WANT TO BE.

WE DON'T WANT TO CREATE A SITUATION WHERE WE'RE CAUSING RESENTMENT BUT WE WANT TO HAVE THIS CULTURAL COLLABORATION.

THE ISSUE WITH THE LEAVE FOR ME IT FEELS A LITTLE BIT LIKE PEOPLE ARE BEING PENALIZED FOR FOR THEIR CHOICE.

I'M WONDERING IF ANY THOUGHT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO SOME TYPE OF INCENTIVE THAT CAN BE USED IN THE FUTURE.

I'M CONCERNED THAT MANY WORK CASES DO INCREASE IN OUR COMMUNITY.

I DON'T KNOW IF ANY THOUGHTS HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO FOLK WHO'S WANT TO STEP INTO THOSE ROLES AT THIS TIME.

OUR CHALLENGE AND SOMETIMES YOU GET THE WHY ME QUESTION.

THAT'S ONE OF OUR THINGS THAT DR. HUTCHINGS BROUGHT UP.

FOR OUR STAFF MEMBERS WHETHER IT'S OPERATION STAFF OR SCHOOL NURSES.

WHOEVER IT IS, SECURITY STAFF.

ARE THE WAYS THAT WE CAN LOOK AT COMPENSATING OR WHATEVER THE CASE MAY BE FOR WHAT THEY ARE DOING FOR US.

WE'D BE IN A CHALLENGED POSITION IF EVERYBODY WAS IN A SITUATION THAT TOOK LEAVE AND COULDN'T PROVIDE THOSE SERVICES.

IT'S A PERSONAL DECISION.

EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THIS CALL HAS EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES ON THIS FAMILY.

THAT'S OUR LIFE RIGHT NOW.

WE GET THAT.

NOT TRYING TO BE HEAVY HANDED AND SAY THIS IS THE RESPONSE, BUT IT IS BALANCING THAT THE MEDICAL NEEDI KNOW THE CITY MANAGER AS WELL IS HAVING THIS DISCUSSION.

BEING AN EMPLOYER WHO APPRECIATES THE EMOTIONAL WELLNESS OF OUR EMPLOYEES BEING PARAMOUNT.

WE HAD OUR FIRST WELLNESS AND SUPPORT CIRCLE FOR STAFF MEMBERS.

THEY PUT OUT A COMMUNITY CIRCLE TO ENGAGE IN RESTORATIVE PRACTICES.

OFFERING TO ADDRESS THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL WELLNESS OF OUR STAFF THROUGH SUPPORT AND WE'LL BE OFFERING A NUMBER OF OPPORTUNITIES.

THAT WAS EXCITING FOR OUR FIRST STAFF.

I SEE WE HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION.

I'M SORRY.

I WASN'T GOING TO BRING THIS UP BUT SINCEMAYBE THE NURSES ARE SITTING HOME COLLECTING THEIR PAY AND NOT DOING ANYTHING.

THE NURSES IN MY EXPERIENCE ARE HAVING ISSUES AND ARE CRITICALLY IMPORTANT.

PART OF THE TEAM, I HOPE WE'LL ALWAYS BE DIFFERENT FROMIN MAINTAININGI THINK IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE DO OUR PART AT THIS TIME AND I SEE WHY WE WANT THE NURSES TO BE INVOLVED IN THIS WAY.

I THINK MANY OF THE NURSES ARE OKAY WITH THIS.

I NURSE THE CONCERNS ABOUT THE SOCIAL DISTANCING AND I THINK IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF THIS PHONE CALLING COULD BE DONE FROM THEIR HOMES.

BE THAT AS IT MAY, MY TWO QUESTIONS I HOPE THIS DOESN'T INDICATE IN MY SENSE THAT WE'RE TEMPTED TO GO WITH THE OTHER MODEL WHERE EAR NURSES BECOME EMPLOYEES OF THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND ARE ASSIGNED TO A VARIETY OF SCHOOLS.

THAT WOULD BE UNFORTUNATE.

I HOPE WE DO APPRECIATE THAT UP UNTIL NOW THE NURSES WHO HAVE NOT BEEN SITTING BACK, THEY HAVE BEEN A CRITICAL PART OF THE TEAM AND DOING OUT REACH TO THE FAMILIES THAT NEED THEM.

THANKS.

ABSOLUTELY.

ALL OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS ARE WORKING FROM HOME AND REMOTELY.

I REMIND PEOPLE WHEN SCHOOLS ARE CLOSING AND PEOPLE ARE WORKING.

PEOPLE ARE WORKING.

WE HAVE SOME ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL.

I WANT TO SAY WE ARE BEING AS EMPATHETIC AND HOPE AND CARING AS WE CAN BE.

I THINK OF THE WORK THAT WE ARE TRYING TO BE FLEXIBLE WITH OUR STAFF.

WE'RE NOT HOLDING THEM TO THE FIRE ON EVERY THING.

WE'RE NOT SAYING YOU BETTER TAKE LEAVE.

WE'RE TRYING TO WORK WITH EVERYONE'S SITUATION.

WE ALSO KNOW THAT THERE ARE THINGS WE HAVE TO GET DONE.

WE NEED OUR STAFF ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE EQUIPPED TO DO WE NEED YOU TO DO THAT AT THIS POINT.

DURING A PANDEMIC, YOU HAVE TO HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES THAT WEREN'T TYPICAL PRIOR TO THE SITUATION WE WERE CURRENTLY IN.

WE HAVE TO HAVE THE PATIENCE AND GRACE.

AND WE FLEXIBLE WITH NURSES AND ALL OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS.

AS WE PROGRESS.

IT'S IMPORTANT FOR US TO MAKE MORE ADJUSTMENTS LATER.

WE'RE GOING TO START HAVING MORE CHALLENGES WITH MORE PEOPLE BEING POSITIVE WITH CORONA VIRUS.

UNFORTUNATELY WE MIGHT HAVE SITUATIONS WHERE WE SEE MORE PEOPLE NOT SURVIVING FROM BEING WITH THE CORONA VIRUS.

WE HAVEN'T HAD ANY DEATHS IN THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA BUT THERE MAY BE A DAY WHEN THAT DOES OCCUR.

WE NEED TO PREPARE HOW WE'RE GOING TO REACT TO THOSE SITUATIONS WE'RE GOING TO BE FACED WITH PROBABLY SOONER THAN LATER, UNFORTUNATELY.

WE HAVE TO COLLABORATE WITH THE CITY AND THE C D C.

AND LETTING OUR STAFF KNOW THAT WE RESPECT THEIR TIME AN CIRCUMSTANCES DURING THIS VERY UNPRECEDENTED TIME FOR ALL OF US.

I THINK THATTHAT'S ALL I WANTED TO SAY.

I DON'T KNOW IF THERE WAS ANYTHING ELSE.

[02:00:01]

I THINK WE'RE OUT OF TIME FOR TODAY.

I DON'T SEE ANYBODY ELSE'S HANDS RAISED AT THIS POINT.

IF SOMEONE WILL MAKE A MOTION FOR US TO ADJOURN.

MADAM CHAIR, I MOVE THAT WE ADJOURN THE MEETING.

DO I HAVE A SECOND? SECOND.

I'LL ASK THE CLERK TO TAKE A ROLL CALL VOTE, PLEASE.

(ROLE CALL).

THE VOTE IS NINE TO ZERO, THE MOTION HAS PASSED.

THANK YOU, EVERYONE.

HAVE A GREAT HAPPY SPRING BREAK.

WITH THE SOCIAL DISTANCING I CAN'T EVEN GIVE YOU A HUG.

I DO WISH ALL OF YOUI APPRECIATE YOU.

I WISH ALL OF YOU A HAPPY SPRING BREAK AND I HOPE YOU ALL WILL TAKE SOME TIME OFF AS WELL.

I KNOW THERE ARE A COUPLE OF THINGS I DO HAVE TO DO NEXT WEEK AND YOU MAY HEAR FROM ME A COUPLE OF DAYS.

CITY COUNCIL IS MEETING ON TUESDAY.

I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE CONTINUED SUPPORT.

WE TALK ABOUT HOW FORTUNATE WE ARE TO BE IN OUR CITY.

WE DO HAVE COLLEAGUES IN OTHER CITIES.

THAT COMES FROM THE TOP ALL THE WAY DOWN.

I APPRECIATE THE WORK THAT YOU ALL ARE DOING AND SUPPORT THAT YOU ALL ARE GIVING US DURING THIS VERY VERY CHALLENGING TIME THAT WE'RE ALL EXPERIENCING.

THAT'S JUST ME TALKING TO YOU PERSONALLY.

I APPRECIATE IT.

SEE YOU LATER.

BYE.
