WONDERFUL. ALL RIGHT. WE'RE GOING TO SKIP DOWN TO EARLY CHILDHOOD, AND WE'RE INCREDIBLY EXCITED ABOUT THE INTENTIONAL COLLABORATIONS WITH THE KIDS.

FIRST YEARS IN ALEXANDRIA CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND ALL OF THE PARTNERS FROM THE CITY THIS EVENING.

SO THIS IS REALLY AROUND THE STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT WORK TO BEST PROVIDE SERVICES THAT REALLY PREPARE OUR CHILDREN TO BE SUCCESSFUL WHEN THEY'RE ENTERING INTO KINDERGARTEN AND BEYOND AND ENGAGING OUR FAMILIES AND REALLY THAT EQUITABLE MANNER.

SO THIS EVENING, WE DO HAVE A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT.

AND MISS KATE GARVEY IS GOING TO PRESENT FOR US THIS EVENING ON BEHALF OF BOTH BOTH OF OUR DIVISIONS HERE.

I'M HOPING THAT EVERYBODY GOT THE MATERIALS EARLIER TODAY.

AND SO I'M JUST GOING TO HIGHLIGHT A FEW OF THE KEY AREAS THAT WE'VE BEEN FOCUSING ON.

THE FIRST REALLY LOOKING AT SYSTEMS ALIGNMENT AND AS WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT IN THE PAST, HOW CRITICAL IT IS THAT WE'RE ABLE TO SHARE INFORMATION ACROSS THE EARLY CHILDHOOD SECTORS. AND AT THIS POINT, WE HAVE ALL THE PARTNERS SIGNED OFF ON THE DATA SHARING AGREEMENTS.

WE'RE ALSO LOOKING AT POTENTIAL TOOLS THAT WILL ASSIST US BOTH FOR INFORMATION SHARING AMONG THE EARLY CHILDHOOD PROVIDERS, AS WELL AS HAVING PORTALS FOR THE FAMILIES ACROSS THE SYSTEMS. THE NEXT AREA JUST LOOKING AT ACCESS AND THIS IS A MAJOR CHANGE AND WHAT WE THINK IS A REALLY IMPORTANT, YOU KNOW, EXPANSION OF WHAT WE'RE DOING.

AND SO IN 24, FY 24, CPS WILL BEGIN TO SERVE THREE YEAR OLDS IN VPI AND WE ARE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

TO HAVE CHILDREN HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE TWO YEARS OF EARLY CHILDHOOD OPPORTUNITY AS WELL AS TO EXPAND THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN INVOLVED.

SO WE WILL HAVE AN ADDITIONAL 77 PRESCHOOL SLOTS IN THE COMING YEAR.

SO VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT AND WHAT THAT MEANS FOR THE FUTURE.

UH, NEXT.

THIS IS ALSO IN THE IN THE CATEGORY OF ACCESS.

WE ARE ALSO FOCUSED ON A SINGLE APPLICATION PROCESS, AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON FOR MANY YEARS AND WE HAVE MADE SORT OF FITS AND STARTS AND ELEMENTS OF THE PROCESS.

BUT WE REALLY FEEL WE WILL HAVE A SINGLE APPLICATION THAT EVERY FAMILY CAN USE BEGINNING IN THIS, THIS NEXT MONTH.

UH, RELATED TO THAT ALSO IS HAVING A COORDINATED ENROLLMENT OFFICE.

AND WE TALKED, I THINK TWO MEETINGS AGO THAT WE HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT THE FIRST FLOOR OF THE BELL PEPPER PLAZA AS THE LOCATION, AND THAT WILL BECOME OUR EARLY CHILDHOOD HUB.

SO FAMILIES WILL BE ABLE TO ENROLL FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD ANY EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM IN THAT FACILITY.

WE WILL HAVE STAFF THERE.

WE WILL HAVE STAFF THERE AND ANY EARLY CHILDHOOD PROVIDER WHO WANTS TO COME TO EITHER DO A SIGN UP EFFORT OR TO DO SOME OTHER COORDINATED PROGRAMING THERE. WE WILL ALSO HAVE OUR FAMILY ENGAGEMENT STAFF MEMBER THERE WHO'S WORKING THROUGH KIDS FIRST YEARS.

AND JUST RELATED TO THAT INDIVIDUAL, SHE WILL BE FOCUSED ON CREATING THE FAMILY COUNCIL.

AND THIS IS ANOTHER ELEMENT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT FOR A LONG TIME THE DEGREE TO WHICH FAMILIES HAVE VOICE IN DESIGNING THE SYSTEM.

AND SO THAT COUNCIL WILL REALLY BE LEADING THAT EFFORT AND HAVE THE ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST WHO'S WORKING OUT OF KIDS FIRST YEARS HAS REALLY DONE A LOT ALREADY TO BUILD TRUST AND ENGAGE FAMILIES ACROSS THE SYSTEM.

I THINK THE LAST HIGHLIGHT THAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IS, YOU KNOW, FOCUSED ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND REALLY ENGAGING ALL EARLY CHILDHOOD SETTINGS INTO THIS WORK. WE'VE HAD TWO FULL YEARS AND WE HAVE 228 CLASSROOMS THAT ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE V-CUBE FIVE.

SO REALLY LOOKING AT THE QUALITY ACROSS THE SYSTEM IS SIGNIFICANT.

AND 172 PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN IN FOR TWO FULL YEARS.

SO WE'LL CONTINUE TO DO THAT FOCUS.

WE HAVE FUNDING, ADDITIONAL FUNDING FROM THE STATE THROUGH FAIRFAX AND ALSO SUPPORT THROUGH THE CITY BUDGET ALSO TO EXPAND STAFFING THERE.

SO AS THE SUPERINTENDENT SHARED, THIS IS JUST A REALLY SIGNIFICANT COLLABORATION AMONG ALL THE KEY PARTNERS AND WE REALLY FEEL THAT WE'RE BEARING FRUIT.

UM, FOR DOUGLAS MACARTHUR, WE'RE REALLY WRAPPING UP SORT OF THE THE FACADE WORK OF THE BUILDING.

THE LAST FEW PIECES OF COW WALL AND THE METAL PANELS ARE BEING INSTALLED IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.

ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE, YOU'RE SEEING THE BUS SLOPE BEING GRADED DUE TO RAIN.

THE SOME OF THE EXTERIOR WORK HAS BEEN PUSHED TO THIS WEEK.

SO BARRING ANY MORE RAIN, WE'LL HAVE SCHEDULED THE ASPHALT TO GO DOWN THIS WEDNESDAY.

UM, THIS IS THE EAST SIDE OF THE SCHOOL.

LOOKING FROM THE TURF FIELD TOWARDS THE SCHOOL SIDE, YOU SEE THE COW WALL AND GET ALL THE GLAZING AND METAL WORK.

METAL PANEL WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED AS WELL.

UM, A LOT OF THE FLOORING PREPARATION WORK HAS BEEN COMPLETED IN THE CLASSROOMS. THE HAS BEEN INSTALLED.

THE CEILING GRIDS ARE IN, SO A LOT OF FINISH WORK IS BEING COMPLETED ON THE ALL THREE FLOORS.

REALLY? UM, THE ADMIN SPACE, YOU CAN SEE THE CARPET TILE HAS BEEN INSTALLED AND PROTECTED AT THIS TIME.

THE KITCHEN SPACE.

WE HAVE INSTALLED THE FLOORING AS WELL.

THE KITCHEN EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION WILL START THIS WEEK.

THE GYMNASIUM SPACE.

A LOT OF THE EQUIPMENT HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ALREADY.

THE GYMNASIUM SPACE IS PRETTY MUCH PRETTY CLOSE TO BEING COMPLETE, EXCEPT THE FLOORING.

THIS IS THE SORT OF THE MEDIA CENTER THAT'S SPLIT IN TWO LEVELS.

YOU SEE THE LEARNING STAIRS OVER HERE.

THIS IS THE SECOND LEVEL OF THE MEDIA CENTER.

UM, THIS IS THE THIRD FLOOR.

THE YOU SEE, THE HALLWAY CERAMIC TILE WORK IS ONGOING, AS WELL AS THE PAINTING AS WELL.

WE DO HAVE BIORETENTION AREAS AT MULTIPLE PARTS OF THE SITE AS WELL AS THE TURF FIELD ACTS AS A ALSO KIND OF PART OF THE THE STORMWATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AS IT SOAKS UP THE WATER AND SLOWS DOWN THAT RUNOFF.

SO REALLY, I WOULD SAY THE WHOLE SITE IS TREATED AND WE HAVE MULTIPLE BIORETENTION AREAS AS WELL TO SLOW DOWN THE SORT OF THE WATER VOLUME. THANK YOU.

I KNOW WE'VE HAD A PARTICULAR ELECTRICAL ISSUES IN THAT PARTICULAR NEIGHBORHOOD.

AS WE ADD IN A FACILITY MUCH LARGER THAN THE ONE ON SITE.

HAVE WE HAD TO DO ANYTHING IN TERMS OF ELECTRICAL WORK TO MAKE SURE THAT GRID, THAT PART OF THE GRID IS FINE? IT'S A OBVIOUSLY IT'S A MUCH LARGER BUILDING AND PROBABLY HAS MUCH GREATER NEEDS.

UM, WE DO HAVE A GENERATOR FOR THE BUILDING, UM, AT WHICH WILL WHICH WILL SERVE THE LIFE SAFETY AND ANY SORT OF, UM, THE, THE KITCHEN FREEZERS AND COOLERS AND THOSE KIND OF THINGS.

SO WE DO INCORPORATE THAT INTO ALL OF OUR PROJECTS TO REALLY PROTECT US FROM ANY LOSS OF OUR ASSETS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

UM, AND THEN WE AGAIN, THIS BUILDING WILL BE ON SOLAR ONCE THAT BECOMES AVAILABLE WHEN WE INSTALL THE SOLAR PANELS.

SO THAT WILL ALSO ASSIST WITH SOME OF THOSE ISSUES.

SO CPS AND THE LEARNER CENTER COLLABORATIVE OR AS WE CALL IT, A LOT OF WORDS THERE CONTINUE THE EFFORTS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE PREPARING FOR THE OPENING AND THE SCHOOL REDESIGN. ON JUNE 12TH AND THE 13TH, WE CONDUCTED STAFF FORUMS. THERE WAS A FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENT DIVISION LEVEL MEETING AS WELL AS SOME SCHOOL BASED OPERATIONAL MEETINGS.

AND WE HAD OUR VERY FIRST, WHICH WE'RE CALLING A GUIDING COALITION TEAM, WHICH ARE THE SUPPORT GROUPS THAT REALLY FOCUS ON PROGRAMING OPERATIONS, STUDENT EXPERIENCE AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND WHAT THOSE DECISIONS WILL BE.

SO THEY'RE KIND OF THAT TOP TIER KIND OF CABINET OF LEADING THE WORK.

AND THEN UNDER THEM, THERE ARE MANY SMALLER TEAMS THAT ARE BE SUPPORTING THOSE TOPIC AREAS.

WE'VE WORKED ON LEARNER PROFILES AS WELL AS SOME COMPETENCIES AROUND WHAT THAT WILL LOOK LIKE INSTRUCTIONALLY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL.

WE'RE ALSO WORKING ON MORE OF A PUBLIC FACING COMMUNITY OUTREACH SO THAT WE CAN PROVIDE MORE UPDATES AS WE GET CLOSER TO THE OPENING OF THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT.

SO THAT IS THE INSTRUCTIONAL UPDATE.

I THINK ONE OF THE CONCERNS I'VE HEARD FROM COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS IS TRYING TO FIND THAT AVENUE INTO CONNECTING WITH THE SCHOOLS, WHETHER IT'S A NEW GROUP THAT POPS UP IN THE COMMUNITY THAT WANTS TO VOLUNTEER, LIKE HOW DO THEY ENGAGE, HOW DO THEY APPROPRIATELY COME THROUGH WHATEVER DOOR YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE THEY'RE THERE AND THEY'RE NOT ALWAYS THEY'RE NOT ALWAYS SURE IF.

THEY'RE COMING IN THE RIGHT WAY AND MAYBE THAT'S BECAUSE OF THE RESPONSE THEY GET OR.

HOW BEST TO TO NAVIGATE.

AND SO I THINK AS AS YOU GUYS LOOK AT KIND OF WHAT THAT FRONT FACING LOOK LOOKS LIKE, I THINK IF YOU CAN.

UM, SO SINCE THEN WE'VE HAD A COUPLE OF MEETINGS, JOINT MEETINGS BETWEEN STAFF TO DISCUSS THESE THREE AREAS WHERE WE'VE IDENTIFIED THE DIRECTION, GUIDANCE AND POLICIES AND MEASUREMENTS AND DEVELOPED SHORT AND LONG TERM WORK PLANS FOR EACH OF THESE.

SO FOR REAL ESTATE, THE DIRECTION IS TO SEEK THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE WAY OF UTILIZING AND MAINTAINING CITY AND SCHOOL FACILITIES, INCLUDING FOR OFFICE, EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL PURPOSES IN BOTH THE SHORT AND THE LONG TERM.

BUT ADDING TO THAT, THE OFFICE AND LEASE EXPIRATION LEASE COLLABORATIONS FOR THE LONG TERM BASED ON THE FINDINGS OF THE SHORT TERM, WE WOULD BE LOOKING TO DEVELOP COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS FOR CO-LOCATION AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR EFFICIENCIES AND THEN IMPLEMENTING THOSE RECOMMENDATIONS. ULTIMATELY, WHAT WE WOULD BE LOOKING TO DO IS, AS YOU SEE ON THE MEASUREMENT SIDE, DECREASE IN OVERALL COST OF CITY AND LEASE SPACE AND INCREASE SHARED SPACE IN SQUARE FOOTAGE.

SINCE AS I MENTIONED, THIS WORK HAS ALREADY BEEN UNDERWAY, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE LEASE AND THE OFFICE SPACE, WE'RE ABLE TO CONTINUE CONTINUE WITH THAT WORK GROUP, ADDING THOSE TWO ELEMENTS TO THE DISCUSSIONS.

SO THIS ONE WON'T MOVE AS QUICKLY, BUT THEN KNOW IN THE FALL THAT WE'LL BE ABLE TO PICK IT UP AGAIN ONCE YOU'VE STARTED THE SCHOOL YEAR.

SO THOSE JOINT EFFORTS INCLUDE SHARED RECRUITMENT EVENTS, INCLUDING THROUGH THE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT CENTER.

THROUGH THE CONVERSATIONS, WE LEARNED THAT BOTH CITY AND WERE ALREADY WORKING WITH THE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT CENTER ON UPCOMING EVENTS.

SO THAT IS SOMETHING MORE IMMEDIATE THAT WE'RE ABLE TO DO AND JOINING EFFORTS.

ALSO LOOKING AT VIRTUAL CAREER FAIRS TOGETHER, CAREER FAIRS AT HHS AND COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES.

WE ALSO HAD IN THE MEETING WITH US VISIT ALEXANDRIA STAFF JUST TO HELP US THINK THROUGH MESSAGING TOGETHER AND LEVERAGE SOME OF THE MESSAGING THAT THEY USE IN TERMS OF THE APPROACH TO STORYTELLING ABOUT THE CITY AND BUILDING UPON THE PLACE YOU WANT TO BE.

THE DAY WE HAD THIS MEETING HAPPENED TO BE WHEN CPS AIR PUT OUT A REALLY GREAT VIDEO ABOUT RECRUITMENT AND WE WERE ALL TALKING ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL THAT VIDEO WAS AND PERHAPS BUILDING UPON EFFORTS LIKE THAT TOGETHER, AND ALSO CROSS PROMOTION ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND RADIO AND SOME UPCOMING BUS ADVERTISEMENTS. AND THE LONG TERM IS TO LOOK AT POTENTIAL ALIGNMENT OF COLLECTIVE BARGAINING.

BUT WE KNOW THAT THAT IS A VERY LONG TERM EFFORT AND NOT SOMETHING WE CAN DO RIGHT AWAY.

IN THE SHORTER TERM, THOUGH, WE CAN LOOK AT POTENTIAL BENEFIT SHARING THAT IS NOT IMPACTED NECESSARILY BY COLLECTIVE BARGAINING, SUCH AS THE CITY TRANSIT PROGRAM FOR STAFF. UM, ULTIMATELY, WE'RE LOOKING AT INCREASED NUMBER OF QUALIFIED APPLICANTS FOR CITY AND CPS POSITIONS AND REDUCED COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH RECRUITMENT.

SO THE DIRECTION HERE IS TO INCREASE COLLABORATION ON WORKFORCE OPPORTUNITIES AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND REDUCE BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT LEADING TOWARD GREATER LIFELONG ECONOMIC STABILITY.

SO IN THE SHORT TERM, THE DISCUSSIONS WERE AROUND BUILDING YOUTH EMPLOYMENT INTO THE MONTHLY CITY SCHOOL STAFF GROUP DISCUSSION SO THAT WE'RE NOT RECREATING THE WHEEL WITH A WITH A NEW STRAP GROUP.

BUT WE HAVE THOSE PARTNERS ALREADY IN PLACE AND CAN CAN BUILD UPON THOSE DISCUSSIONS THERE, ENSURING THAT THERE'S PLANNING AROUND THE HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT WITH LINKS TO PARTNERSHIPS FOR EXPANDING YOUTH EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES.

AND THIS IS SPECIFICALLY AT THE NEW WHAT WILL BE THE NEW SATELLITE AT MINNIE HOWARD AND ALIGNING WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT WITH INDUSTRY ADVISORY BOARDS AND CAREER PATHWAY PROGRAMS IN THE LONG TERM.

WE DISCUSSED CREATING A COMMUNITY WIDE YOUTH JOB BOARD THAT DOESN'T EXIST NOW.

SO THAT'S WHY IT'S ON THE LONG TERM LIST, BECAUSE IT WOULD BE SOMETHING NEW TO BUILD, BUILD UPON OUR SHORT TERM, OUR SHORT TERM INITIATIVES, AND THEN DEVELOPING A PROCESS FOR INTRODUCING IN-DEMAND INDUSTRIES IN THE EDUCATIONAL CURRICULUM AND BUILDING BUILDING YOUTH ENTREPRENEURIAL PROGRAM LINKED TO THE HIGH SCHOOL BUSINESS CLASSES.

AND THEN AGAIN, ULTIMATELY WE'RE LOOKING FOR INCREASE IN TEEN EMPLOYMENT, INCREASED IN KEY MEASURES IN THE DEVELOPMENTAL ASSET SURVEY, INCREASE IN POST EDUCATION, SECONDARY EDUCATION AND AN INCREASE IN ENROLLMENT IN CLASSES.

I BELIEVE THAT IS THE LAST SLIDE.

AND THEN FINALLY, I WOULD JUST NOTE THAT BOTH SCHOOLS AND CITY STAFF WORKED CLOSELY TO MAKE SURE THAT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR WAS A SAFE AND SUCCESSFUL. A KEY INFORMATION SOURCE THAT WE USE FOR FORECASTING AND OTHER THINGS IS WHAT WE CALL STUDENT GENERATION RATES, WHICH IS HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE IN VARIOUS HOUSING TYPES, WHETHER IT'S NEW CONSTRUCTION, WHETHER IT'S OUR OLDER, MORE ESTABLISHED COMMUNITIES, WHETHER THEY'RE IN FAMILY HOMES OR IN APARTMENT BUILDINGS. ALL OF THAT ANALYSIS HELPS US FIGURE OUT WHAT'S GOING ON SORT OF UNDER THE SURFACE.

WHEN ERIC AND I TALKED TO YOU LAST TIME.

IT CAN BE THAT AS REDEVELOPMENT OF A PUBLIC HOUSING OCCURS THAT PEOPLE MOVED.
