THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE BEEN ON THE ON THE CTE ADVISORY COMMITTEE REMEMBER THIS FROM LAST YEAR WHERE WE HAD TO SEND OUT A SURVEY AND WE SURVEYED PARENTS, STUDENTS, ADULTS, BUSINESS INDUSTRY PEOPLE.

AND WHAT WE DID FROM THE QUESTIONS WE ASKED IS WE PRIORITIZED WHAT THEY CALL SECTION ELEMENTS, AND THEY NEEDED TO HAVE A LOWEST LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH OR HIGHEST TYPE RANKING TO IT.

AND SO THE DOCUMENT YOU SEE HERE IS WHAT GETS SENT INTO THE STATE.

LAST YEAR WE HAD $309,145.86 FROM PERKINS.

THIS. I'M SORRY.

THIS YEAR, THAT'S WHAT WE'VE HAD.

THE YEAR BEFORE WE HAD 317.

AND THE REASON FOR THIS DECLINE IN THE AMOUNT IS DUE LARGELY ON THE CENSUS THAT WAS CONDUCTED DURING COVID.

AND SOME OF OUR POPULATION WITHIN OUR CITY DID NOT REPLY AND WE LOST SOME FUNDING WITHIN THE MIX OF THAT FORMULA. BUT WHAT WE DID FIND OUT IS THAT THE STUDENT PERFORMANCE AND THE CTE PROGRAM, SIZE, SCOPE AND QUALITY WERE THE HIGHEST IN NEEDS OR THE HIGHEST NEEDED SECTION ELEMENT.

AND SO WE PRIORITIZED OUR PERKINS GRANT TO.

BE IN LINE WITH WHAT WE SURVEYED AND FOUND OUT.

SO OBVIOUSLY, WE WANT THE BEST TEACHERS, WE WANT TO EXPAND CERTIFICATIONS AND WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE CTSO STUDENT LEADERSHIP. AND YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE IS A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY FROM PERKINS, FROM OUR STATE INDUSTRY CREDENTIAL EXAM MONEY AND FROM OUR LOCAL FUNDING.

VERY, VERY HIGH ON THE LIST WAS CTE, PROGRAM, SIZE, SCOPE AND QUALITY.

YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE IS 127,000 AND EQUIPMENT COSTS AND LOCAL, UM, UH, FUNDING ALSO TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE PROMOTING THE HIGH QUALITY PROGRAMS THAT THE SURVEY SAID THAT WE NEED TO DO.

ONE OF THE LOWER ONES IS AND IT'S NOT THAT IT'S NOT IMPORTANT, BUT BECAUSE WE HAD BEEN DOING SO WELL WITH WORK BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCES, WE ARE WELL ABOVE THE STATE STANDARD PERCENTAGE WITH WHAT WE'RE PROVIDING TO OUR STUDENTS.

SO IT DIDN'T GET AS MUCH FUNDING FROM PERKINS LAST YEAR.

UM, WE ALSO NEED TO CONTINUE TO ALIGN TO THE LOCAL LABOR MARKET AND THROUGH THE HELP OF OUR BUSINESS PARTNERS, THIS IS, THIS IS MAKING OUR JOB A LOT EASIER BECAUSE THEY'RE ASSISTING US SO WELL.

WE'VE ALSO WANTED TO INCREASE THE STUDENT AWARENESS AND LOOK AT THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS AND HOW DO WE MAKE SURE THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE GETTING THE BEST EXPERIENCES AND HOW ARE WE PROVIDING THAT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR OUR TEACHERS? AND LASTLY, THE ACCESS AND EQUITY OBVIOUSLY IS WAS ONE OF THE HIGHEST ONES BECAUSE IT'S IN LINE WITH OUR SCHOOL DIVISION STRATEGIC PLAN.

AND THIS IS WHERE WE ARE GOING TO TARGET THAT PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS, WHICH I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU A LITTLE LATER TODAY IN THE AGENDA AND SOME OF THE WORK BASED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES WE HAVE AND THAT ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT NOT ONLY FOR OUR TEACHERS BUT FOR OUR SPECIAL

EDUCATION STAFF, ADMINISTRATORS AND COUNSELORS.

SO BASICALLY THIS IS THE BASIS OF WHICH I USE TO CREATE THE SPENDING FOR THE PERKINS GRANT.

SO WHAT I WANTED TO DO WAS MAKE IT AS EASY AS POSSIBLE TO EXPLAIN WHAT THE PERKINS GRANT IS.

AND FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE NEW, UM, WHAT YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND IS THIS IS THE FUNDING THAT COMES FROM THE STATE, WHICH THEN COMES FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

SO IN ORDER FOR US TO GET ANY FUNDING, WE HAVE TO CREATE THIS LOCAL PLAN APPLICATION.

AND IT INCLUDES INFORMATION BASED ON THAT COMPREHENSIVE LOCAL NEEDS ASSESSMENT.

AND UM, KNOWING THAT LAST YEAR WE GOT $309,145.86. WHICH WAS LESS.

WE HAD TO REALLY STRETCH IT THIS YEAR BECAUSE WE HAVE MORE STUDENTS TAKING CTE COURSES THAN PRETTY MUCH WELL FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS. WE'RE DOWN A LITTLE BIT FROM LAST YEAR BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE EPF COURSES WE HAD, BUT WE ARE STILL SHOWING STEADY PROGRESS WITH THE INCREASE OF THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS.

SO WE USE WHAT OUR ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT DATA SHOWS.

WE LOOK AT OUR SCHEDULES FOR MANAGEMENT AND WE LOOK AT THE NEW PATHWAY FINANCIAL DATA FROM THE LOCAL, STATE ANY OF EXTRA GRANTS WE GET, AND THEN WE PROPOSE THE BUDGET FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR.

SO BASED ON THAT 309,145 AND $0.86.

WHAT I DID IS I CREATED A.

DESCRIPTION HERE SO THAT YOU CAN SEE THAT IN RED IS WHERE THOSE OTHER CATEGORIES WHERE I DECREASED IT AND SO ON. THE FIRST ONE, I WANT TO JUST EXPLAIN THAT TEACHERS GOING TO CONFERENCES, WE HAD 36,000.

FOR THAT ALLOCATION.

WHAT WE FOUND THIS YEAR IS THAT THE TEACHERS WERE GOING TO CONFERENCES WITH STUDENTS, WHICH IS KZZO, WHICH I'LL GET TO IN A LITTLE BIT. ALSO OUR STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS.

AND THEREFORE WE NEEDED TO MOVE THE MONEY DOWN TO WHERE WE'RE ASSISTING STUDENTS TO GO TO THE KZZO REGIONAL, STATE AND NATIONAL COMPETITIONS.

SO DOWN HERE YOU CAN SEE HOW WE INCREASED FROM 19,000 TO 26,000.

SO WHAT THIS MEANS IS OUR TEACHERS ARE STILL GOING TO SEE THE MONEY, BUT WE'RE PUTTING IT MORE INTO OUR SPECIAL POPS AND NONTRADITIONAL STUDENT AREA, AND OUR TEACHERS WILL BE GOING AS ADVISORS.

PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP FOR THREE TEACHER STIPENDS.

THIS IS FOR OUR THREE LEADERS WHERE IT'S $5,000 STIPEND EACH.

THIS YEAR WE'VE HAD DEE HARRIS, LAURA EVANS, AND BEN MATTHEWS.

UM, PURCHASE HARDWARE FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES.

WE HAVE 15,000.

WE HAVE DECREASED A LITTLE BIT WITH EQUIPMENT, AND THAT'S ONLY BECAUSE WE NEEDED TO MOVE IT SO THAT WE HAVE ENOUGH TO MAKE SURE OUR STUDENTS CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE CONFERENCES AND.

AND THE COMPETITIONS.

10,000 TO INITIATE THE CONSTRUCTION PATHWAY LAB.

14,000 TO PURCHASE EQUIPMENT FOR TV PRODUCTION, PHOTOGRAPHY OR THE TRADE AND INDUSTRIAL PROGRAMS, WHICH INCLUDES AUTOMOTIVE, COSMETOLOGY AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE ALSO.

14,000, WHICH IS THE SAME FOR THE STEM ACADEMY OR TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING.

13,000 FOR THE HEALTH SCIENCE ACADEMY.

AND I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT THE GOVERNOR'S HEALTH SCIENCE ACADEMY IS GETTING $1,000 LESS, BUT THEY ALSO GET SOME OTHER GRANT MONEY.

AND THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT ARE IN THE STEM ACADEMY IS COMPARABLE UNTIL THEY GET TO HIGH SCHOOL.

AND THEN IT INCREASES IN THE 10TH, 11TH AND 12TH GRADE, AS WELL AS THE STUDENTS THAT ARE IN OUR TRADE AND INDUSTRIAL.

SO EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE $1,000 LESS, THE GOVERNOR'S HEALTH SCIENCE ACADEMY IS DOING QUITE WELL WITH THEIR FUNDING.

UM. THIS $6,147.50 IS THE SAME AS LAST YEAR.

IT IS TO PAY SOMEONE TO DO OUR OUR REQUIRED SURVEY REPORTING OF STUDENTS THAT HAVE GRADUATED FROM OUR PROGRAMS. MANY OF THE OTHER SCHOOL DIVISIONS HAVE.

TEACHERS DO THAT WORK.

AND I HAVE FOUND THAT TEACHERS DON'T NEED ONE MORE THING.

AND IT'S EASIER TO PAY SOMEONE TO DO THAT.

AND SHE GETS THE JOB DONE AND SHE GETS US TO AT LEAST 75% CALL BACK INFORMATION FROM STUDENTS THAT HAVE GRADUATED FROM OUR PROGRAMS. AGAIN, HERE'S THE INCREASE FROM 19,000 TO 26,000 FOR CTSOS.

AND I JUST WANT TO JUST PUT OUT A FIGURE FOR YOU.

OUR STATE COMPETITION FOR DECA, OUR MARKETING STUDENTS, WE HAD 43 STUDENTS GO TO THAT AND THREE ADVISORS.

IT COSTS $21,000 TO SEND THEM.

AND YOU COULD SEE RIGHT THERE WE WERE OVER THE 19,000.

THAT DOESN'T EVEN COVER HOW MUCH WE NEED FOR NATIONALS, BUT WE DO HAVE SOME OPERATING MONEY OR LOCAL MONEY THAT WE CAN PUT IN WITH THIS CATEGORY.

SO WE NEED TO SUPPORT SUMMER INSTRUCTION FOR THE HEALTH SCIENCE AND STEM ACADEMIES SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAMS. SO WE'VE INCREASED IT A LITTLE BIT, ABOUT 700 BUCKS.

SAME THING TO PAY STAFF TO WORK ON EDUCATION AND BUSINESS PARTNERS TO UPDATE AND ALIGN THE CURRICULUM.

SO WE HAVE SOME CURRICULUM WRITING ALIGNMENT TO DO FOR OUR DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSES WITHIN TEACHERS FOR TOMORROW.

THE STEM ACADEMY AND THE GOVERNOR'S HEALTH SCIENCE ACADEMY.

ONLINE SOFTWARE USED TO BE A 20,000.

I AM DECREASING IT BY 5000 BECAUSE I'M FINDING THE USAGE OF THE SOFTWARE IS NOT AS GREAT AS IT WAS DURING COVID, AND I THINK THAT MAKES SENSE.

BUT THERE IS SOFTWARE THAT NOW SOME TEACHERS ARE VERY DEPENDENT ON BECAUSE WE ARE DOING E-BOOK SUBSCRIPTIONS INSTEAD OF BUYING TEXTBOOKS THAT, YOU KNOW, IN SOME OF OUR FIELDS BECOME OBSOLETE WITHIN A YEAR.

SO THERE STILL IS SOME GOOD ONLINE SOFTWARE AND E-BOOK SUBSCRIPTIONS THERE.

WE'RE GOING TO EXPAND THE INDUSTRY CREDENTIAL TESTING FROM 10,000 TO 14,000.

PLUS WE HAVE LOCAL MONEY AS WELL AS SOME OTHER GRANTS.

I WILL TELL YOU THAT JUST THE WORKPLACE READINESS SKILLS TEST AND A SHOUT OUT TO MISS DAVIS, WHO'S ON WE HAVE TESTED CLOSE TO PROBABLY 1400 KIDS WITH WORKPLACE READINESS SKILLS ALREADY. AND THAT RIGHT THERE IS THE COST OF OR THE AMOUNT OF THIS PARTICULAR BUDGET.

THE. THE INDIRECT COSTS HAVE GONE UP ALSO AND IT'S 4%.

SO YOU CAN SEE A SLIGHT INCREASE THERE.

THAT ALL ADDS UP TO $309,145.86.

SO THE MAIN PARTS ARE THE DECREASE WITH THE TEACHER CONFERENCES, BUT THAT MONEY WAS PUT INTO HELPING STUDENTS GO.

A LITTLE DECREASE IN EQUIPMENT.

BUT THE INCREASE WITH SUPPORTING TEACHER CURRICULUM AND SUMMER BRIDGE WORK.

IT IS REALLY FOR THAT TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING SOFTWARE THAT THE TEACHERS ARE NOW BACK TO USING HANDS ON ACTIVITIES AND ACTUALLY IT WORKS BETTER.

THE HANDS ON ACTIVITIES ARE BETTER FOR OUR ELL AND SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS.

UNFORTUNATELY, I WAS AT A TOWN AT A CONFERENCE AND SO HAD TO MISS THE EVENT.

BUT WERE THERE OTHER FOLKS ON THE CALL WHO WERE WERE IN ATTENDANCE AND WANT TO TALK ABOUT WHAT THAT LOOKED LIKE, WHAT THAT EVENT WAS LIKE? PATRICK I WAS THERE AND IT WAS WELL ATTENDED BY PARTNERS AND ALSO OUR TEACHERS.

I THINK IT WAS A GREAT TIME TO CELEBRATE OUR TEACHERS AND THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF STUDENTS.

THE STUDENTS WHO SPOKE WERE WELL SPOKEN AND HAD SUCH POSITIVE ENERGY ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE DOING IN THE CTSOS THEY WERE A PART OF.

SO IT WAS A REALLY GOOD THING FOR US TO BE TOGETHER AND TO CELEBRATE THE THINGS THAT THE STUDENTS ARE DOING AND THE TEACHERS ARE DOING.

SO I THINK IT WAS REALLY NICE.

AND AND JUST TO ADD TO THAT, THE STUDENTS WERE GIVEN A PROMPT TO DISCUSS THE LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES THAT CTSOS PROVIDE FOR THEM.

AND THEY GOT UP AND THERE WERE LEADERS FROM EACH OF THE CTSOS AS WELL AS JROTC, AND THEY DISCUSSED THE LEADERSHIP ROLES THAT THEY'RE PLAYING.

I'LL TELL YOU, THE HEAD OF COMMUNICATIONS WAS THERE AND THEY ARE DOING WOMEN IN HISTORY SPOTS WITH OUR STUDENTS THIS MONTH.

AND SHE SPECIFICALLY CALLED OUT STEM FOR HER AS LIKE THE COOLEST EXPERIENCE SHE'S HAD SO FAR, GETTING TO MEET WITH OTHER STUDENTS, GETTING TO GO TO THIS BIG EVENT, GETTING TO MEET, YOU KNOW, WITH OTHER YOUNG WOMEN LIKE HER WITH THIS INTEREST.

AND THAT REALLY STOOD OUT AS KIND OF A STELLAR OPPORTUNITY.

SO IT WASN'T TOO LATE OR ANYTHING.

BUT THE NICE THING WAS THAT TABLES WERE SET UP AND KIDS HAD LIKE A LISTING OF ALL THE DIFFERENT TABLES THAT WERE THERE.

AND SOME SOME BUSINESS PARTNERS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY FOR.

WE'RE LOOKING TO HIRE, FOR EXAMPLE, LIKE THE YMCA FOR SUMMER JOBS FOR STUDENTS.

AND THEN SOME WERE JUST KIND OF CONNECTING WITH STUDENTS AND TALKING ABOUT POSSIBLE INTERNSHIPS OR OPPORTUNITIES TO TO GROW.

BUT MANY OF THEM WERE LOOKING FOR STUDENTS FOR WORK FOR THE SUMMER.

AND I KNOW I SAW AIDEN'S SOME OF AIDEN'S KIDS THERE.

AND IT WAS ALL ONLINE.

SO IT WAS NICE FOR KIDS. THEY COULD GO HOME, THEY COULD BE WITH THEIR FAMILIES AND BE LISTENING TO DIFFERENT TYPES OF JOBS SO THEY COULD BE THINKING ABOUT WHAT THEY WANTED TO BE DOING. THEN THEY'RE DOING THEIR SCHEDULING.

WHAT KIND OF CLASSES SHOULD I BE TAKING AND THEN CONNECTING IT HERE, HEY, THERE MIGHT BE A JOB HERE.

IF IT'S NOT NOW, IT COULD BE LATER AND JUST SEEING THE POSSIBILITIES OPEN TO THEM.

SO I APPRECIATED ALL THE EFFORTS THAT WENT INTO THAT AND I THINK IT WAS REALLY HELPFUL.

WE ALREADY HAVE TWO CTSO NATIONAL COMPETITIONS SCHEDULED WITH EIGHT STUDENTS GOING FOR DECA AND TWO ADVISORS AND EIGHT STUDENTS GOING FOR HOSA WITH TWO ADVISORS.

WE BELIEVE THEY'LL PROBABLY BE SOMEONE IN FBLA AND PROBABLY FCCLA, AND THERE'S A POSSIBILITY FOR SKILLS USA ALSO, ONE OF THE REASONS FOR INCREASING THAT AMOUNT IN THE PERKINS GRANT IS BECAUSE OF THE INCREASED COSTS FOR TRAVEL AS WELL AS HOTELS.

AND UNFORTUNATELY, MANY OF THESE HOTELS ARE NOT AT THE PER DIEM RATE AND PERKINS WON'T COVER ANYTHING OVER THAT.

SO WE HAVE TO HAVE OPERATING MONEY, LOCAL MONEY, IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE WE CAN SEND STUDENTS.

I ALSO WANTED TO GIVE AN UPDATE OF THE DOMINION ENERGY GRANT WITH GERMANY FOR THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CURRICULUM.

THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA REGIONAL COMMISSION WROTE A GRANT TO WITH DOMINION ENERGY TO PROVIDE AN EXPERIENCE FOR ONE ADMINISTRATOR AND ONE TEACHER FROM ALEXANDRIA CITY. AND ARLINGTON.

SO FOUR PEOPLE ALONG WITH THE COMMISSION WILL BE TRAVELING TO GERMANY IN NOVEMBER. TO EXPERIENCE HOW THE GERMAN EDUCATION SYSTEM TEACHES STUDENTS ABOUT ELECTRIC VEHICLE CURRICULA AND CONCEPTS.

AND FROM THAT, WHEN WE COME BACK, WE WILL BE WORKING WITH THE TEACHERS TO CREATE WHAT WE'RE CALLING IMMERSION UNITS.

NOT A SEPARATE CURRICULUM YET BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, THE STATE WRITES THE CURRICULA, BUT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A MODULE OR A TYPE OF UNIT THAT WOULD GO INTO EITHER TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING COURSES OR AUTO TECH AT THIS POINT OR MAYBE EVEN OUR ENERGY COURSES DOWN THE ROAD. THE SECOND PHASE OF THIS PROGRAM IS ANOTHER GRANT BEING WRITTEN SO THAT STUDENTS CAN THEN ACCOMPANY THEIR TEACHER IN JUNE OF 2024 AND JUNE OF 2025 SO THAT THERE WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 12 STUDENTS FROM BOTH CPS AND ARLINGTON SCHOOLS TO GO WITH TWO TEACHERS AND THE COMMISSION OVER THERE SO THAT THE STUDENTS WOULD HAVE A PROGRAM EXCHANGE PROGRAM OVER TO GERMANY. THE HOPE IS THAT OUR GERMAN PARTNERS WOULD BE THEN ABLE TO COME TO NORTHERN VIRGINIA TO HELP ASSIST US WITH THE

IN 10TH GRADE.

THEY'RE GOING TO BE PROVIDED A MENTOR.

AFTER 11TH GRADE, THERE WILL BE AN EXTERNSHIP.

12TH GRADE, THERE'LL BE AN INTERNSHIP.

AND THEN WHAT WE'RE HOPING IS THROUGH THAT INTERNSHIP, IF THEY DO PLAN TO GO ON WITH THAT FIRST AND SECOND SEMESTER OR ONE YEAR AT NORTHERN VIRGINIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE, PERHAPS, MAYBE THE EMPLOYER OF THEIR INTERNSHIP MIGHT HELP ASSIST WITH THAT OR WITH A PAID INTERNSHIP WILL HELP LESSEN THE BURDEN OF MAYBE THE COST OF THAT.

SO IN MAY YOU'LL EACH BE GETTING A COPY OF THAT AND THEY WILL BE GOING OUT TO STUDENTS AS THEY START TO PICK WHICH TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING PATHWAY THEY WANT TO BE ON WITHIN THE.

THE STEM ACADEMY OR AC STEM.
