WE'RE REALLY GRATEFUL FOR HER WORK.

SHE HAS SUCH A RICH HISTORY, I THINK, THAT MAYBE A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT.

SO THIS IS REALLY BEEN AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE BOARD AND MANY PEOPLE TO LEARN ABOUT THE RICH THINGS THAT DR.

WYATT HAS DONE IN HER 26 YEAR CAREER.

SHE HAS DEMONSTRATED THAT SHE IS AN INSTRUCTIONAL LEADER.

SHE HAS A BACKGROUND IN GOVERNANCE.

SHE HAS WORKED WITH ASD, WHICH IS A VERY WELL RESPECTED ORGANIZATION AND SHE WAS THE PRESIDENT IN CHIEF, I'M SORRY, THE PRESIDENT AND CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF THAT ORGANIZATION.

SHE HAS BEEN A TREMENDOUS SUPPORT IN OUR CENTRAL OFFICE MOST RECENTLY.

WE HAVE EVERYONE KNOWS WE'VE HAD TO WORK TO REIGNITE OUR HUMAN RESOURCES TEAM, TO ENHANCE OUR RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION EFFORTS.

AND I THINK EVERYONE SAW DR.

WYATT COME IN AND SHE DUG IN AND GOT HER HANDS DIRTY AND REALLY HELPED TO GET US START TO TURN

THAT DEPARTMENT AROUND.

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER TAUGHT IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HAS BEEN A VICE PRINCIPAL AND PRINCIPAL.

SO SHE'S AND IT'S REALLY BEEN GREAT TO SEE HER UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE TO WORK IN LEADING HUMAN RESOURCES FROM AN INSTRUCTIONAL LENS, KNOWING EXACTLY HOW SCHOOLS WORK, AND USING THAT KNOWLEDGE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE DOING OUR BEST IN HUMAN RESOURCES TO SUPPLY OUR SCHOOLS WITH THE STAFFING THAT WE NEED.

SO, YOU KNOW, STARTED AT A VERY PIVOTAL TIME IN THE PANDEMIC.

SO WE ARE JUST THANKFUL THAT SHE IS HERE.

WE'RE THANKFUL FOR HER LEADERSHIP.

AND I'M VERY MUCH LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT DR.

SHE WORKED. SHE EMBRACED THE ROLE.

SHE DID A GREAT JOB BY THE NUMBERS AND ALSO BY THE TESTIMONY OF THE PRINCIPALS, SOME OF THE PRINCIPALS THAT I TALKED TO WHO ACTUALLY SAW THE IMPACT OF HER WORK AND HER TEAM'S WORK ON SCHOOL STAFFING.

I ALSO BELIEVE THAT DR.

K WHITE IS THE TYPE OF LEADER THAT WE NEED WHO CAN BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER, WHO CAN BE A CONSENSUS BUILDER WITH HER PERSONALITY AS A HUMBLE LEADER, WHO IS EAGER TO SHARE CREDIT AND AS SOMEONE WHO IS PASSIONATE ABOUT STUDENTS AND THEIR SUCCESS, I ALSO BELIEVE THE FACT THAT WE HAD SO MANY APPLICANTS, MANY AMAZING QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WITH DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS AND SKILL SETS WANTING TO LEAD THIS DIVISION AND BE HERE IN ALEXANDRIA SPEAKS VOLUMES OF WHO WE ARE AS ALEXANDER COMMUNITY AND SHOULD MAKE ALL OF US PROUD, AS ALEXANDRIA, AS AND AS ACPS.

JUST A QUICK REMINDER OF OUR AUDIT.

THIS IS PART OF A STRATEGIC PLAN STRATEGY TO DO THE EQUITY AUDIT OF ALL BOARD POLICIES.

AND THESE POLICY REVISIONS ARE GOING THROUGH AS PART OF THAT PROCESS REALLY IS TO BE SURE THAT THEY ALIGN WITH EDUCATIONAL EQUITY FOR THE ORGANIZATION.

WE FOLLOW A STANDARD FIVE STEP PROCESS WITH TEAMS HERE OF SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AND STAFF MEMBERS WHO FOLLOW THAT PROCESS.

SO IT'S A VERY RIGOROUS, SYSTEMATIC PROCESS TO DO THESE REVIEWS.

WE HAVE STANDARD DEFINITION OF WHAT A POLICY IS AND A REGULATION IS AS WE GO THROUGH THIS.

THIS IS ALL ABOUT MAKING SURE THAT WE HAVE EQUITY FOR ALL IN OUR GOVERNANCE WHICH CAN SUPPORT THE REST OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE ORGANIZATION.

WE ARE LOOKING AT THREE SETS OF POLICIES.

THERE IS OUR STUDENT PLACEMENT POLICIES.

THOSE ARE IN A WORK SESSION ON MAY 5TH, PRESENTED FOR INFORMATION IN JUNE, AS WELL AS SOME OTHER CHANGES TO STUDENT WELLNESS, STAFF, HEALTH AND SCHOOL VISITORS.

JUST A QUICK REMINDER THE SAME STANDARD CHANGES WE MAKE TO EVERY SINGLE POLICY.

I'M NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT THESE IN DETAIL.

THIS IS JUST SORT OF STANDARD REVISIONS WE GO THROUGH EVERY TIME.

ON JUNE 16TH, WE PRESENTED SEVERAL CHANGES FOCUSED PRIMARILY ON MAKING THE PROGRAM PLACEMENTS A LITTLE MORE STREAMLINED, A LITTLE MORE STRAIGHTFORWARD, FOCUSING ON PROGRAMS THAT WERE TRULY INSTRUCTIONAL, UNIQUE, WHICH IS YOUR DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM.

SO THE TRULY AND STRUCTURALLY UNIQUE PROGRAMS, SO THE OPT INS AND OPT OUTS, OPT INS ARE LIMITED TO THE DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAMS, AND OPT OUTS ARE TO THE GRADE SIX THROUGH EIGHT OF THE EIGHT PROGRAMS SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY NECESSARILY HAVE ALL OF THE SAME COURSE OFFERINGS AS COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOLS DO.

WE WANT OUR KIDS HAVE THOSE OPPORTUNITIES TO DO THOSE OTHER COURSES IF THEY'D LIKE.

THE OTHER FUNCTION IS RETURNING TO ATTENDANCE ZONES AND REALLY ENSURING THAT IF SPACE IS AVAILABLE AT STUDENTS ATTENDANCE ZONE, THAT THE SCHOOL THAT THEY CAN RETURN TO THAT SCHOOL. WE CREATED THIS CONCEPT OF CLUSTERS FOR REASSIGNMENTS TO SIMPLIFY TRANSPORTATION ISSUES AND CLARIFIED THE SIBLING RULES A LITTLE BIT AND HAD A STANDARD LANGUAGE AROUND THE ATTENDANCE ZONES.

BASED ON THAT, YOU HAD SOME QUESTIONS.

AND SO IN RESPONSE TO THAT, WE'VE MADE SOME CHANGES TO THE POLICIES.

FIRST WAS A QUESTION TO SAY, HEY, YOU KNOW, IF STUDENTS DIDN'T WANT TO BE REASSIGNED BACK TO THEIR ATTENDANCE ZONE SCHOOL AT THE WINTER BREAK, THEN OPTION FOR FAMILIES TO REQUEST THAT BE DEFERRED.

AND SO WE'VE ADDED THAT OPTION FOR A REQUEST FOR DEFERRAL TO THE REGULATION.

SO THAT'S NOT PART OF THE REGULATION FOR THE BOARD'S REQUEST.

THE CLARIFIED THAT TRANSPORTATION IS ACCORDING TO EXISTING TRANSPORTATION SERVICES POLICY, SOME WITH SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT WHETHER YOU GET TRANSPORTATION IF YOU HAD A PROGRAMMATIC TRANSFER, BUT YOU ARE TECHNICALLY IN THE WALK ZONE TO THE SCHOOL YOU OPTED INTO.

SO YOU MADE SOME ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT WHEN THAT REDISTRICTING PROCESS IS GOING TO HAPPEN AND WHEN THOSE GO IN EFFECT.

THE ASSUMPTIONS WE MADE WERE THAT WE WOULD MAKE THE DECISIONS THIS YEAR, BUT THE CHANGES WOULD NOT GO IN EFFECT UNTIL THE 2020 425 SCHOOL YEAR, AND THAT THE STUDENTS AT THE TOP GRADE LEVELS WOULD BE GIVEN AN EXEMPTION FOR THAT AND BE PERMITTED TO STAY IN THEIR SCHOOL.

SO FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADERS, SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS.

AND SO WE ARE RECOMMENDING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PLACEMENT REGULATIONS CORRELATE CORRESPOND TO THOSE DATES SO THAT THE SAME GROUP OF STUDENTS WHO ARE BEING RETURNED FROM, SAY, A PROGRAM.

THE WALL, AS WELL AS THE ATTENDANCE ON CHANGES.

ALL THOSE KIDS ARE MOVING TOGETHER.

THEN WE'RE LIKELY TO STAY WITH THEIR FRIENDS THAT WAY.

THAT'S SORT OF THAT IDEA BEHIND THAT.

SO THIS IS WHAT THE SCHEDULE LOOKS LIKE.

SO WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEBODY GOES IN SIXTH GRADE AND THEIR SPACE AND THEN SEVENTH GRADE? WE HAVE AN INFLUX OR EIGHTH GRADE WE HAVE AN INFLUX OF PEOPLE MOVING INTO THAT NEIGHBORHOOD.

STUDENTS WHO HAVE MATRICULATED THROUGH THOSE GRADE LEVELS THAT ARE NOT ZONED TO THAT SCHOOL CAUSE SOME OF THE ISSUES FOR THE OVERCROWDING BECAUSE THEY STILL REMAIN THERE FOR THREE YEARS. SO LETTING SOMEBODY IN IS YOUR END, BUT NOW YOU'RE IN FOR THREE YEARS, WHICH IS THE CHALLENGE.

SO IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS SPACE THAT YEAR THAT YOU GOT IN, BUT THEN SOMETHING OCCURS LIKE IT HAS BEEN FOR US, UNFORTUNATELY WITH WELL FORTUNATELY TOO, BECAUSE WE'RE HAPPY THAT PEOPLE ARE COMING TO US.

BUT WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT THEN THOSE CONSECUTIVE YEARS WE'RE SEEING AN INCREASE AND IT CAUSES A CHALLENGE IN REGARDS TO THOSE SPACES.

AND THEN WE'RE HAVING TO SEND PEOPLE WHO MOVE TO THAT NEIGHBORHOOD TO A DIFFERENT SCHOOL, AND IN SOME CASES, THEY LIVE DOWN THE STREET OR ACROSS THE STREET FROM FROM THAT SCHOOL BUILDING.

SO THAT'S WHY WE HAVE BEEN REALLY TRYING TO PUSH THIS WITH OUR CHANGES.

ANOTHER THING WE TALKED ABOUT, AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE CAN FOLLOW UP WITH THE BOARD ON, IS JUST MAKING SURE THAT, YOU KNOW, WHEN WE DO OUR CHOICES OF OUR DIFFERENT SCHOOLS AND A DIFFERENT OPTIONS THAT WE HAVE IN ACPS, THAT'S ANOTHER CHALLENGE FOR US.

LIKE IF SOMEBODY'S MOVING TO A CERTAIN NEIGHBORHOOD AND TYPICALLY YOU'RE RESEARCHING THE SCHOOL THAT'S IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD BEFORE YOU MOVE THERE, TYPICALLY THAT IF WE GO INTO HAVING CHOICES, IF YOU GET TO GO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO OR WHERE YOU THINK IS THE BEST FIT FOR YOUR FAMILY, BUT YOU MOVE TO AN AREA WHERE THERE'S A CERTAIN SCHOOL THAT'S THERE.

WE ARE SEEING THAT WHERE WE'RE CAUSING OUR OWN OVERCROWDING ISSUES BY ALLOWING FOLKS TO NOW SAY, I DON'T WANT TO GO TO MY ZONE SCHOOL, I WANT TO GO TO ANOTHER SCHOOL FOR WHATEVER THE SITUATION MIGHT BE.

THE NEW WEBSITE WILL STRENGTHEN SCHOOL DIVISION COMMUNICATIONS AS WELL AS EACH SCHOOL'S COMMUNICATIONS, AS THEY WILL BE VISIBLE, VISUALLY APPEALING AND STYLISTICALLY ALIGNED WITH NEWSLETTERS AND OTHER MATERIALS.

THIS VITAL PLATFORM WILL HELP US SHARE ACP STORIES IN A MULTI MULTIMEDIA FORMAT TO HIGHLIGHT OUR STUDENTS, OUR STAFF AS WELL AS OUR PROGRAMS. ALSO NEW FOR THE 2020 223 SCHOOL YEAR IS THE COMMUNICATION PLATFORM PARENTS SQUARE.

THIS IS A UNIFIED APP FOR SCHOOL COMMUNICATION.

IT WILL ALLOW OUR FAMILIES TO RECEIVE ALL ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE DIVISION AND THEIR CHILDREN, SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS IN ONE PLACE, AND WITH THE ADDED ABILITY TO ENGAGE IN TWO WAY COMMUNICATION THROUGH TEXT MESSAGES AS WELL AS AS WELL AS CONFERENCE SCHEDULING AND SIGN UPS.

WE CHANGED THE WAY WE WERE ADVERTISING.

WE CHANGED WHERE WE WENT TO ADVERTISING WITH NEW SOCIAL MEDIA AND PLATFORMS. WE WERE ABLE TO REALLY DO A GOOD JOB.

SO DURING THIS RECRUITMENT SEASON, WE HAD 202 INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF, WE MADE OFFERS TO 190 HAVE ACCEPTED TO DATE AND THIS IS JUST FROM THE RECRUITMENT SEASON.

SO WE HAVE ABOUT JUST OVER TEN THAT ARE STILL PENDING SOME PAPERWORK ITEMS. SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE THAT NUMBER WAY DOWN FROM LAST YEAR.

AND WE'RE REALLY EXCITED BECAUSE WE ONLY HAVE JUST OVER 50 FULL TIME TEACHER VACANCIES AND WE HAVE A NUMBER OF THOSE WHO ARE PENDING SOME OFFERS.

SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED THAT THAT NUMBER IS WAY DOWN FROM LAST YEAR AS WELL.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS THAT WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS AND DATAS THAT WE'RE SEEING IN THE VARIOUS MEDIA, THOSE CRITERIA ARE BASED OFF OF DIFFERENT EQUATIONS AND EXAMPLES.

SO PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE WORKING IN OUR SCHOOL LEADERS ARE WORKING WITH OUR RECRUITMENT LEADERS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE GETTING THE BEST QUALITY CANDIDATES IN FRONT OF OUR STUDENTS.
