WE ARE GOING TO START -- WE HAVE TWO AGENDA ITEMS, ONE IS A BUDGET DISCUSSION AND THE OTHER IS THE HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT PRESENTATION AND SO WE'RE GOING TO START WITH

[1. Budget Work Session]

THE BUDGET FIRST AND I KNOW THE TWO THINGS THAT WE'RE HEARING ABOUT ARE, ONE, THE STAFF RESPONSE, SHARING THAT, TO THE BUDGET ADVISORY COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS AND THEN WE SHOULD BE LOOKING AT POTENTIAL BONUSES FOR TEACHERS.

AS WE DO THAT I WANT TO THANK THE FINANCE TEAM AS WELL AS ALL OF OUR DEPARTMENTS FOR ALL OF THE HARD WORK THAT THEY'VE DONE IN REGARDS TO OUR BUDGET THIS YEAR.

AS YOU ALL CAN IMAGINE, I MEAN, WE'RE CONSTANTLY PIVOTING, IT'S THE NEW WORD.

IT USED TO BE UNPRECEDENTED LAST YEAR.

MS. GREEN, REMEMBER.

AND PIVOT IS THE WORD.

WE PIVOT EVERY WEEK, ALMOST EVERY DAY, BUT OUR TEAM CONTINUES TO RISE ABOVE AND I AND YOUR DETERMINATION WITH THAT.

I THINK THESE TWO BUDGET ITEMS THAT WE'LL BE SHARING TODAY ARE EXCITING.

ONE, IT'S ABOUT THE BUDGET ADVISORY COUNCIL RECOMMENDATIONS AND JUST OUR RESPONSE TO THAT AND I WANT TO TURN THINGS OVER TO DR. TURNER TO TALK THROUGH THAT AND THE OTHER IS THE RECOMMENDATION -- I WANT TO YOU BE DR. SO BAD.

MR.. THE OTHER IS IN REGARDS TO THE POTENTIAL BONUS THAT WE COULD BE PROVIDING ALL STAFF THIS YEAR, SO THIS CURRENT FISCAL YEAR BUT I'LL TURN THINGS OVER TO MR. TURNER SO HE CAN PROVIDE, HE AND HIS TEAM CAN PROVIDE THE OVERVIEW.

FROM MY TEAM I'LL SAY THANK YOU ON JUNE 3RD ONCE THE BUDGET IS ADOPTED SO AND WE'RE ALMOST THERE.

JUST ANOTHER WEEK TO GO, TEAM.

SO WE APPRECIATE THE BUDGET ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND THEIR WORK.

WE APPRECIATE THEY ADDED THOUGHTS AND CONCERNS.

WE WANTED TO PROVIDE A RESPONSE JUST TO ADDRESS TWO ITEMS IN THE REPORT AND THEN TWO OF THE TEN RECOMMENDATIONS.

OVERALL WE BELIEVE THE RECOMMENDATIONS THAT BAC PROVIDED WILL HELP PROVIDE MULTIPLE OPTIONS FOR THE BUDGET CALENDAR FOR NEXT YEAR AS WELL AS HELP US CONTINUE TO IMPROVE OUR BUDGET PROCESS MOVING FORWARD.

SO THE TWO ITEMS IN THE REPORT THAT WE RESPONDED TO WAS JUST THE OVERALL LENGTH OF THE BUDGET BOOK.

THE REPORT STATED OUR BUDGET BOOK WAS LONGER THAN OTHER SCHOOL DIVISION BOOKS PLUS THEIR JURISDICTIONS BOOK AND OUR BUDGET BOOK IS 415 PAGES AND JUST A QUICK LOOK AT SOME OF THE SURROUNDING JURISDICTIONS WE ACTUALLY HAVE ONE OF THE SHORTER BOOKS, STPS HAS 1,000, PLUS, APS, ROUGHLY 600, SO FORTH AND SO FORTH AND THE REASON WHY OUR BUDGET BOOK IS 450 PAGES BECAUSE WE PARTICIPATE IN TWO PROGRAMS, ASBO AND FGOA FOR EXCELLENCE AND FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS AND THOSE PROGRAMS BASICALLY LET US KNOW WHAT SHOULD BE IN OUR BOOKS TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A TRANSPARENT BUDGET DOCUMENT TO THE PUBLIC.

SO THAT'S WHY IT'S QUITE LENGTHY.

AND THEN AS ONE OF THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS WE COULD REDUCE THAT TO TRY TO SAVE SOME STAFF TIME.

AGAIN THIS COMES BACK TO THE FACT THAT WE DO PARTICIPATE IN THOSE PROGRAMS FOR EXCELLENT FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS THAT WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO PARTICIPATE IN BUT WE HAVE TWO OTHER DOCUMENTS TO OFFER, YOU KNOW, SMALLER SIZES FOR READERS THAT MIGHT NOT WANT TO GO THROUGH THE WHOLE BOOK BUT MIGHT WANT TO KNOW THE INFORMATION THAT WE'RE DOING SO, YOU KNOW, APPLYING OUR -- [INDISCERNIBLE] -- PRINCIPLE THAT CAME OUT OF THE COMMUNICATIONS AUDIT WE HAD WHERE THE MONEY GOES DOCUMENTED, WHICH IS OUR BITE, AND THEN WE HAVE THE BUDGET AND BRIEF, WHICH IS THE SNACK AND THE BUDGET BOOK IS OUR MEAL.

SO WE HAVE THREE DIFFERENT LEVELS FOR DIFFERENT READERS TO GET WHAT THEY WANT TO GET OUT OF THE BUDGET PROCESS OR THE JUDGE DOCUMENTS.

THE OTHER ITEM, IN THE REPORT THEY RESEARCHED FOUR JURISDICTIONS AND THE

SEQUENCING OF THE PROPOSING OF THE BUDGET BY THE JURISDICTION AND THE OTHER PROVING OF THE BUDGET BY THE SCHOOL BOARD AND IN THE REPORT IT SAID THAT ACPS WAS THE OUTLIER IN SEQUENCING OUR SCHOOL BOARD APPROVAL AFTER THE CITY MANAGER'S PROPOSAL BUT IT LISTED IN THERE THAT TWO SCHOOL DIVISIONS DO THEIR SEQUENCING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD APPROVAL PRIOR AND ONE AFTER AND THEN NEWPORT NEWS WAS NOT LISTED IN THERE SO WHEN YOU TAKE INTO COUNT THE FIVE JURISDICTIONS TWO OF THE SCHOOL DIVISIONS SEQUENCE IT LIKE WE DO.

TWO OF THE SCHOOL DIVISIONS SEQUENCE ITIVELY THAN US AND NEW PORT NEWS, THEY ACTUALLY HAVE THEIR SCHOOL BOARD APPROVE ON THE SAME DAY THAT THEIR CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDS THEIR BUDGET THIS PAST YEAR, AND I BELIEVE IT WAS MARCH 23RD, SO JUST WANTED TO PROVIDE THAT INFORMATION AS WELL AND SO NOT REALLY AN OUTLIER THERE.

IT SHOWS THERE'S NOT REALLY A CLEAR PREFERENCE AMONG DIFFERENT JURISDICTIONS ON WHAT WAY TO DO IT.

IT'S JUST A MATTER OF HOW WE WANT TO DO IT MOVING FORWARD.

IN THE RECOMMENDATIONS, IT STATED ACPS SHOULD PROVIDE A LIST OF REACH ITEMS BEYOND THE SUPERINTENDENT'S PROPOSED BUDGET THAT COULD BE PURSUED WITH ADDITIONAL FUNDING AND IT STATED IN THE RECOMMENDATION AND WHILE THIS ENSURES NARROWLY TAILORED -- [INDISCERNIBLE] -- WE WANTED TO MAKE CLEAR TO THE COMMUNITY AND TO THE SCHOOL BOARD THAT WHEN WE PUT TOGETHER TH BUDGET IT'S REFLECTING THE TRUE NEEDS OF ACPS AND WHAT WE ARE RECOMMENDING TO THE BOARD, IF WE WANT TO HAVE A LIST OF ITEMS THAT GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND THE SUPERINTENDENT'S WANTS AND BUT THE WISH LIST, WE CAN DO THAT AND PROVIDE IT TO THE SCHOOL BOARD AND SO IF WE HAVE A WINDFUL OF FUNDING OR YOU WANT TO GO AFTER ADDITIONAL FUNDING FROM THE CITY YOU HAVE A LIST OF ITEMS THAT ARE VETTED THROUGHOUT THE STAFF AS THINGS THAT WE DON'T NEED RIGHT NOW BUT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE IN THE FUTURE SO WE HAD THAT WINDFALL WE COULD ADD THE ITEMS TO THE BUDGET AT THE APPROVED BUDGET STAGE AND ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE GO ABOUT DOING THE BUDGET THE WAY THAT WE DO IT CURRENTLY IS WE TRY TO LOOK TO SEE WHAT IS AVAILABLE, WHAT ARE OUR CONSTRAINTS WHEN IT COMES TO DEVELOPING THIS BUDGET AND DOING SO WE'VE ACTUALLY GROWN ACPS'S SHARE OF THE CITY OF ALEXANDRIA'S GENERAL FUND SINCE ROBERT AND I TOOK THE HELM IN FSD AND WE'RE GROWING IT BY MORE THAN 2 PERCENT OVER THE PAST FOUR BUDGET CYCLES THAT ROBERT AND I HAVE BEEN PUTTING TOGETHER SO WE WERE ON A DOWNWARD TREND SEEING OUR SHARE OF THE GENERAL FUND GO DOWN AND NOW WE'RE ON AN UPWARD TREND OF SEEING OUR SHARE OF THE GENERAL FUND GO UP.

IN ADDITION, THE COLLABORATION HELPED US BE ABLE TO GET OUTSIDE OF THE BOX FINANCING, SUCH AS TEXTBOOKS AND CIP, RUNNING OUR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM AND FUND FOR THE TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE SO THAT TOOK SOME OF THESE COSTS OUT OF OUR OPERATING BUDGET SO NO LONGER COMPETING FOR RESOURCES ON OUR OPERATING BUDGET SO NOW WE HAV TEXTBOOKS TO ADOPT IT EVERY YEAR SO WE WON'T BE IN A POSITION OF OUR STUDENTS HAVING TEXTBOOKS THAT ARE OLDER THAN THEY ARE.

NOW OUR TEXTBOOKS ARE ADOPTED ON THE SEVEN-YEAR PERIOD.

THAT'S REALLY JUST ALL WE WANTED TO STATE.

WE BELIEVE THE REPORT PROVIDES GREAT INFORMATION FOR US TO CURATE THOSE DIFFERENT BUDGET CALENDARS TO PRESENT TO THE SCHOOL BOARD AS WELL AS IDEAS TO MAKE THE PROCESS BETTER AND ROBUST AS FAR AS PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT.

WITH THIS FOR THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I'VE TRIED TO DO SINCE JOINING ACPS WAS AS I SAID, ON THE BAC, I DON'T WANT TO SIMPLY IT BE THEM REGURGITATING MY THOUGHTS OR ROBERT'S THOUGHTS.

I TRY TO HAVE THEM BE AN INDEPENDENT BODY AND PROVIDE INDEPENDENT INFORMATION.

WE TRIED TO ASSIST THEM WHERE POSSIBLE BUT WE DON'T WANT TO REALLY DRIVE THEIR DOCUMENT.

WE WANT THEIR DOCUMENT TO BE FROM THEM TO YOU ALL AND NOT SIMPLY THEM BEING A GO-BETWEEN FROM US TO YOU SO WE REALLY WANT THEM TO BE AN INDEPENDENT BODY TO PROVIDE YOU ALL INFORMATION.

WHAT WE WERE SAYING IS THAT THEY SAID THAT ACPS WAS OUTLIER IN OUR SEQUENCING AND FROM WHAT WE LOOK AT IT IS HAVING TWO OUT OF FIVE DO IT ONE WAY AND TWO OUT OF FIVE DO IT ANOTHER WAY AND ONE OUT OF FIVE DO IT A SEPARATE WAY.

NONE OF THOSE ARE REALLY OUTLIERS TO US.

SO TO US THAT SAYS THAT IF 40 PERCENT DOES IT ONE WAY AND 40 PERCENT A DIFFERENT WAY AND 20 PERCENT A DIFFERENT WAY, NOBODY'S IS REALLY A OUTLIE NER OUR MINDS.

IT SAYS THAT THERE IS NO PREFERRED SEQUENCING.

TYPICALLY YOU WOULDN'T PUT A BOOK THAT IS SEVEN YEARS IN PROCESS BECAUSE IT GETS FUNDED, TYPICALLY CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS -- [INDISCERNIBLE] -- AND YOU WOULDN'T FINANCE SOMETHING WITH 20 YEARS THAT ONLY LAST SEVEN YEARS BECAUSE YOU WILL BE PAYING ON SOMETHING FOR 13 YEARS THAT YOU'RE N LONGER USING.

WE ALSO DO CASH FINANCING ON OUR CIP.

AT THE END OF THE DAY OUR GOAL WAS TO ENSURE WE GOT TEXTBOOKS FOR ACPS STUDENTS, SO IF HE WAS FINE WITH PUTTING IT ON THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLAN WE WERE FINE WITH GETTING THE MONEY AND GETTING THOSE TEXTBOOKS.

WE DO WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT THE BUDGET FORUM THAT WE PUT ON USUALLY IN OCTOBER EACH YEAR, THE GOAL OF IT IS TO DO TWO THINGS.

ONE IS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION TO THE COMMUNITY ABOUT HOW THE BUDGET PROCESS WORKS AND HOW THEY CAN GET THEIR VOICE HEARD AND THEN SECOND IS TO HEAR FROM THEM ABOUT WHAT ARE SOME OF THE IDEAS THAT THEY HAD THAT WE HAVE BEEN PUT INTO THE BUDGET FOR THE NEXT YEAR.

SO THAT'S THE GOAL FOR OUR BUDGET FORUM EACH YEAR.

THEN THE PUBLIC HEARING, THE GOAL OF THAT IS FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD TO THEN BE ABLE TO GET IT DIRECTLY FROM THE COMMUNITY ON THEIR REACTIONS TO DIFFERENT STAGES IN THE PROCESS.

JUST ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING FOR THE ARP IS ALSO JUST HAVING ONLINE FORUMS FOR IF YOU CAN'T COME TO THE ACTUAL, YOU KNOW, BUILDING YOU CAN PARTICIPATE AND DO A SURVEY ONLINE FOR ONE, TO GET TH ON THE BUDGET PROCESS AND HOW YOU CAN, YOU KNOW, BE HEARD BY THE SCHOOL BOARD AND, TWO, GET AN UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT SOME OF THE COMMUNITY MEMBERS MIGHT THINK THAT WE SHOULD BE ADDRESSING IN OUR BUDGET AS WELL SO THAT'S SOME OF WHAT WE PLAN ON FOR THE BUDGET.

DIVISIONS, THEY WILL PUT OUT A BUDGET THAT KIND OF THROWS EVERYTHING OUT THE WALL AND ONCE THEY SEE THE JURISDICTION AND THEY DO THAT BECAUSE THEY'RE WORKING WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THE JURISDICTION ISN'T GOING TO FUND THEIR ENTIRE ONE, AND THEY GO BACK AND ONCE THEY SEE WHAT THE JURISDICTION WILL FUND THEM OUT THEN THEY GO BACK AND CREATE THE BUDGET.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE TRIED TO DO IS DO THAT ON THE FRONT END, HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT WE CAN AFFORD, PUSH THEM A LITTLE BIT TO CONTINUE TO GROW OUR SHARE OF THE GENERAL FUND EACH YEAR, AND THEN GO FROM THERE.

SO THEN WE ALREADY KNOW AND EVERYBODY ON THE STAFF SIDE MOTION ESSENTIALLY THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE WITHOUT ANY MAJOR CUTS COMING FORWARD AND THE BUDGET'S ALREADY DONE.

WITH A LOT OF OTHER JURISDICTIONS THEY PUT TOGETHER THIS BUDGET AND THEN THEY SEE THAT THEY DIDN'T GET EVERYTHING THAT THEY REQUESTED AND THEN THEY HAVE TO DEVELOP THEIR TRUE BUDGET FOR WHAT THEY'VE GOT TO BE FUNDED OUT SO THEN STAFF DOESN'T KNOW UNTIL MAY, JUNE, WHAT THEIR ACTUAL BUDGET IS GOING TO BE MOVING FORWARD.

FOR THE MOST PART DOING IT THIS AWAY WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO, ONCE THE SCHOOL BOARD APPROVING FEBRUARY WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO HAVE A BUDGET SO STAFF KNOWS THE RESOURCES THAT THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE MOVING FORWARD INTO THE NEXT YEAR.

OBVIOUSLY IN A PANDEMIC YEAR THAT WAS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT BECAUSE WE DID HAVE TO CHANGE IN MAY.

OUR GOAL IS TO KIND OF UNDERSTAND WHAT OUR CONSTRAINTS ARE, PUSH THOSE CONSTRAINTS WHERE WE CAN TO GET EVERYTHING THAT WE DO NEED FOR THE STUDENTS OF ACPS AND THEN ALSO BE ABLE TO WORK TO FIND SOME OTHER ANDS OF FUNDING AS WELL TO GET ADDITIONAL RESOURCES AS WELL, BOTH FROM THE CITY MANAGER AND THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA.

AGAIN, WE CAN DEFINITELY DO THAT REACH ITEM AT THAT FIRST WORK SESSION.

AND THEN THIS WISH LIST, THE WANTS VERSUS THE NEEDS, AND I'M THINKING ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THE POOL, WHERE THE POOL, SOME PEOPLE THINK THAT'S A WISHFUL THING TO WANT BUT WE HAVEN'T HAD A REGULATION-SIZED POOL IN OUR COMMUNITY THAT OUR STUDENTS CAN USE SO WE'RE SENDING OUR KIDS TO OUR JURISDICTIONS IN ORDER TO HAVE SWIM MEETS.

SO WHAT IS A WISH OR A WANT VERSUS A NEED.

I THINK THAT'S IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER AND I'M JUST WONDERING -- I THINK IT'S CHALLENGING WITH SOME OF THESE THINGS BUT I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE CIP QUESTION BECAUSE WE KNOW THERE WAS THE 30 HIM SET ASIDE IN THE PAST FOR THE LAND ACQUISITION BUT IT DOESN'T SEEM TO ME LIKE THAT'S REALLY AVAILABLE TO US AT OUR OWN DISCRETION SO IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE THE -- [INDISCERNIBLE] -- TRULY REFLECTS OUR NEEDS.

ALEXANDRIA LIKES TO KEEP THEIR DEBT LOW AND THEY USE A LOT OF CASH FINANCING ON THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT SIDE.

O BUDGET APPROVED FOR $1 BILLION.

THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY HAVE 1 BILLION IN HAND.

THAT MEANS THEY HAVE THE APPROPRIATION AUTHORITY TO GO OUT AND GET A BILLION DOLLARS, SO FOR THE 30 SYMPTOMS THAT WAS PUT ASIDE IN THE ACQUISITION FUND THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT THEY HAVE THE $30 MILLION SITTING IN A BANK ACCOUNT.

IT MEANS THE CITY COUNCIL GAVE THEM THE APPROPRIATETION AUTHORITY TO GO OUT AND GET 30 MILLION SHOULD THEY NEED IT.

THEIR DEBT SERVICE IS PAID OUT OF THE OPERATING BUDGET SO EVERY YEAR THINK OF IT LIKE YOUR MOTHER ON YOUR HOUSE.

EVERY YEAR YOU HAVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MORTGAGE THAT YOU PAY SO THE DEBT SERVICE IS THAT MORTGAGE THAT THE CITY PAYS ON THEIR PROJECTS SO THEY DON'T GO OUT AND FINANCE EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW BECAUSE FOR INSTANCE OUR HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT IS ROUGHLY A $200 MILLION PROJECT.

IF THEY WOULD HAVE WENT OUT AND SOLD BONDS FOR $200 MILLION AS SOON AS THAT PROJECT GOT INTO THE BUDGET THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN PAYING THE INTEREST ON 200 SYMPTOMS BEFORE WE ACTUALLY NEEDED THAT 200 MILLION.

THAT $30 MILLION AND THE ACQUISITION FUND IS APPROPRIATION AUTHORITY BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN THE $30 MILLION IS SITTING READY TO GO READY TO BE SPENT RIGHT NOW.

SO WE ARE PROTECTING A SIGNIFICANT SURPLUS FOR OUR BUDGET SO WE WOULD LIKE MOVE FORWARD WITH THE 2.5 PERCENT BONUS FOR ALL STAFF.

THAT'S ROUGHLY THE EQUIVALENT OF A STEP INCREASE THAT WE DID NOT HAVE IN THE BUDGET FOR THE CURRENT FISCAL YEAR.

AS YOU SEE AT THE TOP WE'RE PROJECTING ADDITIONAL STATE REVENUE.

THERE'S SOME SHORTFALLS IN SOME AREAS, LOCAL FUNDING, AND THAT'S BECAUSE FOR THE MOST PART WE BUILDINGS PER USUAL.

WE TRY TO, YOU KNOW, PROJECT THAT IN OUR BUDGET WHEN WE DID IT BACK IN MAY.

WE NORMALLY HAVE, YOU KNOW, AROUND ONE AND A QUARTER MILLION THERE AND LOWERED IT TO 800,000, AND IT'S LOOKING LIKE WE'LL GET ABOUT HALF OF THAT BUT WE'RE SEEING AN INCREASE IN THE STATE REVENUE, IF YOU'RE FOLLOWING THE STATE BUDGET, MANY OF YOU ALL KNOW THAT THEY WERE PROJECTING $500 MILLION OF EXTRA REVENUE ABOVE THEIR PROJECTION SO THIS IS IMPACTING US AS WELL, AND PROJECTING WE'LL RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL $4 MILLION ABOUT ON TOTAL REVENUE, SO ALMOST $5 MILLION ON THE STATE REVENUE.

WE KNOW THAT CONTENT KNOWLEDGE IS GOING TO HELP THEM ACTUALLY DELIVER ON A PDL AND I THINK PART OF THE REASON WE ASK THE STUDENT LEADERSHIP GROUP TO COME WAS THEY SHOWED US HOW THEY USED MATH AND USED ALL THAT CONTENT KNOWLEDGE TO FIGURE OUT IF THEY DID IT AT TC WILLIAMS, ALL TH SHAPES AND HOW THEY WENT AND GOT THE MAPS AND HOW THEY READ THE DESIGNS AND THAT'S WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO HELP THEM CONSTANTLY PROVIDE EXAMPLES.

WE DON'T KNOW YET BUT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HOW -- THE PANDEMIC, WE LOST TIME AND WE WERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW WE CAN GET PEOPLE TO SEE THE EXPERIENCES BECAUSE WE ONLY KNOW WHAT WE KNOW AND WE CAN ONLY DO SOLE WHEN SERIES VIDEOS OR SITES AND TRYING TO REALLY BRING TO LIGHT AND WE BUILT -- THE STUDENTS DO EXACTLY WHAT YOU JUST SHOWED.

EVERY SINGLE ONE SHOWED US THEIR GEOMETRY AND GEOGRAPHY SKILLS, PUTTING TOGETHER A PRESENTATION THAT YOU CAN ARTICULATE NOT ONLY TO THE SUPERINTENDENT BUT A GROUP OF PEOPLE IN THE EDT.

THAT'S THE WORK WHERE WE'RE HEADED IN THE FUTURE BUT WE KNOW THAT CONTENT KNOWLEDGE IS PIVOTAL TO MAKE MANY OF OUR DREAMS COME TO LIGHT.

WE DID TALK YESTERDAY ABOUT THE CONTENT THOUGH IS GOING TO HAVE TO CHANGE BECAUSE WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN IS THOSE VARIOUS EXPERIENCES WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE THE CONTENT COME ALIVE BECAUSE SOME OF THE RESEARCH IS VERY CLEAR YEARS AND YEARS KIDS HAVE NOT DONE AS WELL AS THEY COULD JUST WITH THE CONTENT AND THAT'S BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THESE EXPERIENCES WHERE THERE'S THIS APPLICATION OF THE ACTUAL CONTENT SO WHAT IT ALSO MEANS FOR US IS THAT OUR PACING CALENDARS, OUR ALIGNMENT GUIDES WE'LL HAVE TO REDESIGN THOSE AND CREATIVELY INTEGRATE EXPERIENCES WITHIN THE CONTENT SO THEY CA APPLICATION OF THE CONTENT SO WE JUST HAD A LONG DISCUSSION ABOUT THAT YESTERDAY AND WHAT THAT CAN LOOK LIKE OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS.

I REALLY LOVE THAT BECAUSE I'VE NOTICED AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL LIKE MY CHILD, LIKE IN SCIENCE CLASS, THERE HASN'T BEEN AS MANY EXPERIMENTS AND HANDS EIGHT ON LEARNING AND SOMETIMES TEACHERS ARE DOING IT IN A DIGITAL WAY AND WHILE I THINK THAT CAN BE GOOD AND USEFUL AT TIMES ANOTHER THING THAT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER IS HOW MULTISENSORY WE ALL ARE AND HOW WE REALLY LEARN THROUGH THE HANGABLE THINGS AND INTERACTING WITH THE MANIPULATIVES AND ALL THAT STUFF, CRITICAL TO LEARNING.

I THINK IT'S EXCITING FOR WHAT IS ABOUT TO COME IN TERMS OF THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND THE FAMILIES.
