THERE IS A GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHER WHO'S RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR INCLUSIONARY PRACTICES SO WE HAVE IDENTIFIED A GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSROOM TEACHER A PARAPROFESSIONAL AND RELATED SERVICE PROVIDER.

THOSE NAMES WERE NOT PUBLIC AT THIS POINT AND WILL BE SO AT THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING ON JUNE 3RD.

WHEN WE HAD A SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING THE QUESTION CAME UP ABOUT THE BEST MANNER TO SHARE THAT INFORMATION.

AND WE WERE ASSUMING IT WOULD MAKE SENSE TO GO BACK TO THE LITERACY TEAM AND THEN SUSAN NEILSON HAD THE IDEA OF INCLUDING IT WITH OUR END OF YEAR REPORT AND IT IS -- IT'S NOT BRIEF BUT I THINK THAT'S AN APPROPRIATE PLACE TO INCLUDE IT AND I WANTED TO GET YOUR PERSPECTIVE.

IT WAS MY DISCUSSION WITH LAUREN THAT IT DEFINITELY SHOULD GO TO THE SCHOOL BOARD BECAUSE IT IS YOUR WAY TO ADDRESS UNMET NEEDS.

1800 STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES IN THE DISTRICT AND THOSE ARE NOT 1800 FAMILIES BECAUSE WE HAVE SIBLINGS BUT IT STILL COMES OUT TO BE 1500-1600 E-MAILS AND WE GET 300-400 RETURNED EVEN WHEN THOSE ARE THE PARENT ADDRESS IN POWER SCHOOL AND WHEN WE GET THAT KIND OF E-MAIL RETURN IT DESTROYS THE IN BOXES OF PEOPLE.

SO I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT ANOTHER WAY TO COMMUNICATE THAT INFORMATION.

I AM GOING TO SEND IT TO LEAD TEACHERS AND HAVE THE TEACHERS IN EACH BUILDING THE CASE MANAGERS SEND IT HOME TO THE PARENTS OF THEIR FAMILIES BECAUSE EVERY TEACHER KNOWS HOW TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE PARENTS OF THEIR KIDS.

BUT I WOULD LIKE TO LOOK AT ASYMMETRIC DISTRIBUTION AND I THINK I'M GOING TO ASK THE ACPS EXPRESS TO INCLUDE A BRIEF BLUSH ABOUT IT WITH A LINK TO OUR WEB PAGE SO THAT PARENTS CAN DO THAT.

WE ARE UNDERTAKING I THINK I MENTIONED IT AT THE LAST MEETING A BIG INITIATIVE TO GET UPDATED CONTACT INFORMATION FROM PARENTS AND THAT IS A REAL PUSH OF OUR COMMUNICATION'S OFFICE THIS SPRING AND THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT IN TIME AND MONEY BECAUSE EVEN TODAY WE STILL HAVE PARENTS WHO DON'T HAVE E-MAIL ADDRESSES AND TRYING TO MAKE CONTACT AND GET ENGAGE WE HAD PARENTS WHO DON'T HAVE E-MAIL ADDRESSES AND PREFER TO DO THINGS VIA TEXT SO WE'RE LOOKING AT ALTERNATIVE WAYS TO SEND VIA TEXT.

SO I'M EXPLORING MULTIPLE OPTIONS AND THAT WAS WE'RE LOOKING AT TO DISSEMINATE AT LEAST THIS FIRST ROUND.

MAZINGO -- >> THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CHALLENGES WITH MAKING SURE THAT EVERYONE -- CAN BE ACCESSED THROUGH POWER SCHOOL SO THERE IS AN EFFORT UNDER COMMUNICATIONS WE'VE GOT SOME FUNDING AND THEY ARE GOING TO DO A COMPLETE OUTREACH TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE INFORMATION ON EVERY FAMILY IN THE SCHOOL DIVISION.

IT'S A CHALLENGE SO WHAT HAPPENS -- THERE ARE TIMES WHEN INFORMATION IS SENT AND THE ADDRESSES ARE WRONG.

THE ADDRESSES SOMETIMES THEY ARE INCORRECT ADDRESSES.

WE HAVE A RESIDENCY VERIFICATION STAFFER THAT IS ALSO VERIFYING RESIDENCE.

WE ALSO HAVE OCCASIONS WHERE INFORMATION SENT TO PARENTS HAS BEEN RETURNED DUE TO INCORRECT ADDRESSES SO RECENTLY THERE WAS A CONVERSATION WITH SLT AND UNDER COMMUNICATIONS TO DO THIS EFFORT TO GET ALL OF THIS INFORMATION CORRECT SO THAT WE CAN REACH ALL OF OUR FAMILIES IN A MORE EFFICIENT MANNER.

>> THE SHORT ANSWER MIKE -- IS ACPS DOES NOT PROVIDE AN E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR EVERY STUDENT SO WE HAVE -- TEACHERS COMMUNICATE INFORMATION TO THE PARENTS VIA A MULTITUDE OF WAYS AND WE HAVE A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF OUR PARENT COMMUNITY THAT OPERATE ONLY THROUGH CELL PHONES AND WE END UP TEXTING.

THAT HAS BEEN ONE OF OUR BIG CHALLENGES OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST YEAR AND TO HELP PARENTS GET INTO OUR DATABASE SYSTEMS OUR POWER SCHOOL AND THE OTHER SYSTEMS THAT THEY NEED TO MANAGE THEIR STUDENT ACCOUNTS.

THE COMMITTEE MAY ONLY HAVE ONE COMMITTEE MEMBER BUT ANOTHER MEMBER MAY BE A TEACHER.

BECAUSE OTHERWISE IT'S DISCRIMINATORY.

I DON'T KNOW IF OUR SCHOOL BOARD OR SUSAN IF YOU HAVE COMMENT ON ADVISORY COMMITTEES IN GENERAL.

IF THE SCHOOL BOARD HAS A PERSPECTIVE ABOUT CONFLICT OF INTEREST BUT I WANTED TO FOCUS ON THE BLUE SENTENCE AT THE END OF NUMBER 12 IF IT IS DETERMINED THERE IS A CHANGE IN MEMBERSHIP STATUS.

WE'RE WAITING TO SEE HOW MANY PARENTS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT AND THEN WE HAVE OUR STANDARD ESY PROGRAM WHICH WILL BE FOUR WEEKS IN PERSON AT JEFFERSON HOUSTON.

SO WE'RE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO DO THAT AND FOR OUR FALL REOPENING.

SO ALL OF THAT PROGRAMMING RESIDES THE RESPONSIBILITY RESIDES WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT SO WE'RE WORKING TO ASCERTAIN HOW WE'RE GOING TO PROVIDE THOSE SERVICES.

WE CANNOT ACCESS ANY OF THE VIRTUAL VIRGINIA PROGRAMMING SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO WORK WITH STUDENTS DURING THE ASYNCHRONOUS TIME OF THAT STRUCTURE.

SO HOW WOULD WE ALLOCATE STAFFING? WHO'S RESPONSIBLE? WHO'S RESPONSIBLE FOR THE IEP GOAL AND OBJECTIVES AND THE DATA COLLECTION? ONE EXCITING THING -- THE HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT, WE'VE MADE A DECISION ABOUT THE ACTUAL PHYSICAL SPACE AND WE'VE STARTED TO DELVE INTO THE ACADEMIC PROGRAM AND WHAT THAT IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE AND THAT IS VERY, VERY EXCITING.

WE ARE ACTUALLY WORKING IN SMALL WORKING GROUP RIGHT NOW SO FOR EXAMPLE THE WORKING GROUP THAT I'M IN IS WORKING ON THE PROGRAM OF STUDIES.

IF ANYBODY HERE HAS SEEN THE PROGRAM OF STUDIES I MEAN YOU GET THIS BOOK THAT IS LIKE THIS THICK.

THERE ARE 400 PLUS COURSE OPTIONS AND I THINK EVERYBODY HAS GOTTEN TO A POINT WHERE WE REALIZE WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? HOW IS THIS MEANINGFUL AND WHAT IS IT DOING TO HELP -- JEFF IS LIKE IT'S NOT.

AND SO -- WE FOUGHT THAT BATTLE FIVE OR SIX YEARS AGO AND LOST.

PROJECT BASED LEARNING.

THERE IS A SMALL GROUP WORKING ON THAT WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING MAKING SURE HOW WE'RE GOING TO INTEGRATE PROJECT BASED LEARNING INTO ALL OF THE COURSES AND CURRICULUM SO.

THAT IS JUST A SMALL TIDBIT BUT I FIND THAT TO BE -- THAT IS THE STUFF THAT I THINK YOU KNOW THAT WE CAN ALL GET EXCITED ABOUT.

CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT KIDS COULD TRAVEL THROUGH THE COURSES BY EXPERIENCING AND SEEING KIDS IN COURSES.

AS THEY GO THROUGH IT WILL BE MORE THAN THE WRITTEN SCRIPT BUT ACTUAL EXPERIENCES THAT MAY BE -- WE TALKED ABOUT IT AND OTHERS ARE RIGHT ABOUT HOW TO CHANGE IT.

AVENUE THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION IS FUNDAMENTALLY REVAMPING HOW MATH IS TAUGHT IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA AND I HAD A MEETING WITH SUSAN -- OUR SECONDARY MATH LEAD YESTERDAY TO GO THROUGH THAT AND I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND THAT SEAC INVITE HER PROBABLY WON'T HAPPEN IN JUNE BUT INVITE HER EARLY IN THE FALL SO THAT YOU ALL HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING.

MATH AS YOU KNOW IT IS GOING TO GO AWAY.

AND IT'S GOING TO BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

STARTING WITH THIS YEAR'S THIRD GRADE.

WE ULTIMATELY WILL NO LONGER HAVE ALGEBRA ONE.

GEOMETRY.

WE HAVE A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO MATH AND IT'S GOING TO BE TIED INTO INTERGROUPINGS.

SO THERE WILL BE A SECTION FOR KIDS WHO WANT TO DO IT.

A SECTION FOR KIDS WHO WANT TO DO DATA KIND OF THINGS.

IT'S FASCINATING.

IT'S TRULY FASCINATING SO SHE HAS A VERY COMPREHENSIVE POWER POINT THAT SHE GOES THROUGH THAT I THINK WOULD BE INCREDIBLY VALUABLE AND IT LINKS TO SOME OF THE THINGS THAT MEAGAN WAS TALKING ABOUT AS WELL.

BECAUSE IT'S TWO PROGRAMS. AND WE EXPECT STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO GO BACK AND FORTH.

WHILE IT'S NOT TWO SCHOOLS.

THERE ARE TARGET PROGRAMS IN EACH BUILDING.

SO WE REALLY NEED TO ENSURE THAT STUDENTS HAVE EQUAL ACCESS TO BOTH.

THE ONLY THING WE'RE CONTINUING IS THAT STUDENTS WHO ARE IN OUR MD CLASSROOM ARE GOING TO STAY AT KING STREET BECAUSE IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE TO RECREATE THAT MD SPACE AND THE REALITY IS SPLITTING THOSE STUDENTS REALLY DIVIDES OUR RESOURCES SO WE'RE GOING TO KEEP THE MD STUDENTS AT KING STREET BUT ALL OTHER STUDENTS WILL HAVE ACCESS TO BOTH CAMPUSES AND BOTH PROGRAMS.
