I THINK THEY HAD PITY ON US BECAUSE IT WAS A PANDEMIC YEAR SO NEXT FALL WE WILL START THE NEW PROCESS FOR REVIEWING WHAT IS NEEDED IN CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION AS FAR AS COURSES, EQUIPMENT, AND THERE WILL BE A LOT OF SURVEYS AND A LOT OF INTERVIEWING TO CREATE THAT DOCUMENT. AND WE MUST HAVE AT LEAST A 75 PERCENT RESPONSE RATE PER PERKINS GRANT. HE CAN GO ON AND GET A SEQUENCE WITH CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY. THEY ARE GOING TO GET THE OSHA 10 CERTIFICATION SO THAT WE KNOW ALL OF OUR STUDENTS WILL BE SAFE ON THE JOB SITE. SO THEN WHEN THEY GET TO THEIR SENIOR YEAR, SOME STUDENTS THAT CAN GO OUT ON A USE REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP CAN GO IN AND DO THE MANAGEMENT PEACE. SO OUR UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO UTILIZE THIS PATHWAY AND NOT BE STOPPED -- STOCK WITH WHAT DO THEY DO WHEN THEY GRADUATE. THEY WILL BE ABLE TO UTILIZE THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM ALSO FOR THE CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT. SOME OF OUR STUDENTS MAY WANT TO JUST BYPASS SOME OF THESE COURSES IN MANAGEMENT AND GO AND DO USE REGISTERED APPRENTICESHIP STARTING IN THE 12TH GRADE. SO WE BELIEVE THIS MANAGEMENT PEACE ALLOWS THE FLEXIBILITY TO BENEFIT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS. SO WE HAVE TO SHOW THE CONNECTION TO NOVA AND THEY DO HAVE A CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATES DEGREE AND WHILE THEY ARE AT NOVA THEY WILL BE ABLE TO WORK ON THEIR COURSES TO OBTAIN THEIR OSHA 30 CERTIFICATION. WE ARE AT AN EXCITING TIME IN THE PROJECT WHERE WE ARE ACTUALLY WORKING ON THE DESIGN AND WE HAVE CONCEPTS OF THE DESIGN THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD IS GOING TO [00:30:01] VOTE ON WHEN THEY GET BACK FROM SPRING BREAK AND THAT WILL ALLOW US TO CONTINUE ON SCHEDULE. SO GO AHEAD. SOME OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL PRIORITIES, THE EDUCATIONAL DESIGN TEAM, WHICH I BELIEVE DOCTOR JACOBS IS A BARGRAPH, POTENTIALLY OTHERS OF YOU. HAS BEEN WORKING VERY HARD THROUGHOUT THE HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT IN IDENTIFYING OUR EDUCATIONAL PRIORITIES FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT BUT REALLY JUST IN THINKING ABOUT THE KIND OF MORE BROADLY AND HOW IT RELATES TO OUR STRATEGIC PLAN THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DIVISION. SOME OF THE KEY THINGS WE ARE FOCUSING ON IN THE MANY HOURS BUILDING ACROSS THE CAMPUSES THAT WE WILL MAKE UP THE HIGH SCHOOL ARE PROJECT-BASED LEARNING, SO MAKING SURE WE ARE PROVIDING THE SPACE AND THE ENVIRONMENT FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY INSTRUCTION IN ORDER TO INCREASE ACADEMIC OUTCOMES. WE HAVE INDUSTRY ADVISORY BOARDS WHICH HAVE BEEN SET UP AND DOCTOR JACOBS HAS BEEN DOING A GREAT JOB MANAGING THOSE. JUST FOCUS ON WORKFORCE ABOUT WHAT POTENTIAL PARTNERSHIPS DO WE HAVE OUT THERE FOR OUR STUDENTS, AND HOW CAN WE MAKE SURE THAT OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE GRADUATING AND ARE READY FOR WHATEVER THE NEXT STEP IS IN THEIR CAREER, IN THEIR LEARNING AND PROVIDING THOSE OPPORTUNITIES AT A YOUNGER AGE. AND ALSO HELPING THE INDUSTRY ADVISORY BOARD IS HELPING US WITH PROFESSIONAL LEARNING FOR OUR TEACHERS TO HELP THEM BE ABLE TO TEACH THE STUDENTS THE DIFFERENT FIELDS AND THE DIFFERENT EXCITING THINGS THAT THEY CAN DO FOLLOWING GRADUATION. AND THEN AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING WE DO AND IN ALIGNMENT WITH OUR EQUITY FOR ALL STRATEGIC PLAN FOR 2025, PROMOTING EQUITY, WE THINK ABOUT THIS AND FROM MY SIDE KIND OF THE CONSTRUCTION SITE BUT THINK ABOUT HOW WE PROMOTE EQUITY BETWEEN THE CAMPUSES AND HOW WE THINK ABOUT WHICH DT HOW WE PROVIDE PROGRAM ACCESS THROUGHOUT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND WE MAKE SURE THAT THE CAMPUSES FEEL CONNECTED AND WE ARE ABLE TO REALLY ENGAGE OUR STUDENTS IN THEIR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN WITH US FOR A WHILE YOU KNOW WE HAVE THAT TO HIGH SCHOOL CONVERSATION ON THE SCHOOL BOARD VOTED FOR A CONNECTED NETWORK AND SO -- AND WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON A LOT OF ANALYSIS AT THE MILLIE HOWARD CAMPUS AND NOW WE ARE AT THE CONCEPT PHASE WHICH IS WHERE WE DEVELOP THE DESIGN CONCEPT FOR THE NEW MINNIE HOWARD AND SEE HOW THIS BUILDING WILL LOOK LIKE AND HOW WILL IT WORK. AND PERKINS EASTMAN IS OUR ARCHITECT AND THEY WILL TALK SOON AND THEY ARE THE EXPERTS ON THIS BUT THEY HAVE REALLY TAKEN THE APPROACH OF WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO DO INSIDE THE BUILDING AND HOW DOES THAT TRANSLATE TO THE LOCAL FACULTY. AND SO HE WILL WILL YOU BE ABLE TO SEEK HELP IN OUR BRIEF CONCEPT PRESENTATION FOR YOU TODAY. AND THEN WE MOVE INTO SCHEMATICS AND DEFINED DEVELOPMENT AND CONSTRUCTION JUST GETTING FURTHER AND FURTHER INTO THE DETAILS OVER THE NEXT YEAR OF DESIGN IN THE STARTING CONSTRUCTION AND HOPING TO OPEN THIS BUILDING IN SEPTEMBER 2024 FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. WE HAVE DONE SOME COMMUNITY -- WE DID A COMMUNITY SURVEY WHERE WE HAD 216 RESPONSES. SO WE WERE AT SEVERAL COMMUNITY MEETINGS AS WELL OR WE HAVE TALKED ABOUT THE CONCEPT AS WELL AS WHAT PEOPLE ARE HOPING TO SEE AT THE MINNIE HOWARD CAMPUS. SOME OF THE QUESTIONS WE ASKED ON THE OUTCOMES OF THOSE, WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY OR STAFF OR STUDENTS, IN THE REDEVELOPMENT OF THE MINNIE HOWARD CAMPUS WE HEARD THAT CAPACITY FOR STUDENT ENROLLMENT GROWTH IS NEEDED, WHICH IS GREAT BECAUSE CLEARLY, EVERYBODY UNDERSTANDS THE NEED WHICH IS WHY WE'RE DOING THIS PROJECT AS WELL AS WIKI SURE OUR SPACES ARE FLEXIBLE AND ADAPTIVE AND THEN FLEXIBLE AND ADAPTIVE SO THAT THE BUILDING CAN BE ANYTHING IT WANTS TO BE IN THE FUTURE AS WELL AS ADJUST THOSE FLUCTUATIONS IN ENROLLMENT BUT ALSO CHANGE QUALITY LEARNING. WE KNOW LEARNING CHANGES ALL THE TIME. AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE ARE PROVIDING THOSE SPACES. WE ASKED IF YOU WERE DESIGNING THE CAMPUS WITH FEATURES OF THE CYBER BUILDING WOULD YOU LIKE TO INCLUDE, AND WE HEARD A LOT OF INNOVATED AND TECH READY AND MAKING SURE THERE ARE HANDS-ON LEARNING SPACES WHICH ARE PRIMARY GOALS IN OUR DESIGN. THEN WE TALKED ABOUT PRIORITIZING THE IDEAS THAT PEOPLE THINK ARE IMPORTANT TO THE DESIGN AND WE'VE HEARD A LOT ABOUT DESIGNING FOR THE LEARNERS FOR EDUCATION AS WELL AS COMMUNITY ACCESS TO THE FACILITY, MAKING SURE WE ARE USING THIS SPACE. AND THEN THE BIGGEST CONCERNS AND WORRIES AND AS IS PRETTY STANDARD AT LEAST IN MY EXPERIENCE WITH ANY REDESIGN OR CONSTRUCTION PROJECT THE GREATEST BEING [00:35:04] TRAFFIC AND NOISE AND SAFETY DURING CONSTRUCTION AND AFTER. SO WITH THAT, LET ME START BY SAYING THIS HAS BEEN AN EXTENSIVE OUTREACH PROCESS WHEN WE BEGAN THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER ON THE PROJECT, BUT A LOT OF WORK HAD BEEN DONE PRIOR TO US JOINING THE TEAM SO THE FIRST THING WE DID WAS DIG INTO ALL THE WORK THAT HAD BEEN DONE BY BOTH THE EDUCATIONAL DESIGN LABOR GROUP OTHERS IN THE SUPERINTENDENTS AND CERTAINLY THE VISION FOR EQUITY FOR ALL AS WE SEE ON THE SLIDE HERE IS WELL. ESTABLISHED BY THE DISTRICT AND UPON THE FACE WE HAVE A CASE LOTS OF STAKEHOLDERS THROUGH THIS PROCESS AND FOCUS GROUPS AND MEETINGS AND SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MEETINGS TALK ABOUT THOSE AS WE GO THROUGH THAT PROCESS CONTINUES THIS IS A WHOLE DIAGRAM SO DOESN'T SHOW EVERY SPACE IN THE BUILDING THAT SHOWS SORT OF CONSOLIDATIONS OF TYPES OF SPACES AND HOW THEY MIGHT RELATE TO ONE ANOTHER AS WE START TO PUT ALL OF THE PARTS TOGETHER TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT WE SEE AS A POWERFUL LEARNING COMMUNITY ON CAMPUS. IN MANY WAYS THINGS CAN ACCESS COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND THE BUILDING. SO HAVING ACCESS TO THEM AFTER HOURS FOR LIFELONG LEARNING FOR ASSEMBLIES, FOR OTHER ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF THE BUILDING AS WE KNOW, THIS IS NOT ONLY A SCHOOL IS A MAJOR COMMUNITY ASSET. TO THE RIGHT YOU WILL SEE THERE ARE SPACES IN THE COMMUNITIES AND YOU SEE THERE ARE THINGS AROUND THOSE COMMUNITIES. BUT WITHIN THE GROUP TEACHER COLLABORATIVE SPACE CLASSROOM SPACES, EC THE SCIENCES IN THE CTE PROGRAM THEY ARE STARTING TO ORGANIZE AROUND THE CLUSTERS OF DISCIPLINARY COMMUNITIES AND A WAY OF STATING CAMPUS DESIGNED FOR 1600 STUDENTS IN SCALING IT DOWN IN MANY WAYS TO CREATE A PLACE IN AN ARCHITECTURE THAT FOSTERS STRONG RELATIONSHIPS THROUGHOUT SURE BUT THEN BASED LEARNING ACTIVE EXPERIENTIAL OPPORTUNITY IN THE ENVIRONMENT WE ARE HOPING TO ACHIEVE AS WELL. SO YOU SEE ON THE RIGHT THERE ARE THREE CONCEPTS WE ARE EXPLORING AND THEY HAVE A NICKNAME SO THERE'S THE HAM FOR HIS HAND SHAPED FACING TO THE RIGHT THE CRESCENT SHAPE FOR THE BAND AND THE LOWER PORTION OF THE BUILDING IN THE PANEL FOR OBVIOUS REASONS. AND THEY HAVE PUT US IN TOUCH WITH ONE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE COMPANY WHO IS GOING TO BE DOING A WEBINAR FOR JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS AND AS I EXPLAINED TO HER ABOUT THE IN THE COMMUNITY SHE SAID WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE PARENTS BE INVOLVED IN IT TOO BECAUSE THEY HAVE SIMILAR JOBS THAT ARE GOOD PAYING JOBS RIGHT OUT OF-THEY WILL TREAT STUDENTS AND ANYBODY WITH THE COMPANY FOR SIX MONTHS AND THEN GET TUITION PAID FOR AND THEY ARE BRINGING PEOPLE FROM LAS VEGAS TO ACTUALLY WORK AT NATIONAL HARD WORK BECAUSE THEY CAN'T FIND ENOUGH PEOPLE. JUST TO GIVE YOU A SALARY -- JUST BEING A HOUSEKEEPER FOR ONE OF THE HOTELS IS 22 BUCKS AN HOUR. YOU HAVE TO BE 21 TO GO THROUGH THE DEALER TRAINING BUT THEY DO HAVE SECURITY, SO SOME CRIMINAL JUSTICE STUDENTS WHO MAY PARTICIPATE IN SECURITY FOR THE CASINO, SPECIAL EVENTS, THERE IS CATERING, HOSPITALITY, OUR CULINARY STUDENTS MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET A JOB OR TRAINING OUT OF THAT. JOBS FOR VIRGINIA GRADUATES, A PROGRAM GRANT WE HAVE AT TC WILLIAMS, WE WILL BE ABLE TO PUT THE STUDENTS IN TOUCH WITH THIS GROUP. SO THAT EVENT IS GOING TO HAPPEN SOMETIME IN APRIL. WE'RE JUST NAILING DOWN THE DATE. IT WILL BE DURING THE 11:00 TO NOON HOUR. WE TALKED TO A GROUP OF STUDENTS ABOUT POSSIBLE CAREERS WITH THE BUILDING TRADES OR CARPENTERS UNION WE ANSWERED ANY QUESTIONS THAT THEY HAD PROCEDURES THAT THEY HAD TO GO THROUGH IN ORDER TO COME INTO THE PROGRAMS, AND WE ARE WORKING ON DOING IT THROUGH THE TRAINING CENTER FOR SOME OF THE STUDENTS. AS MICHELLE MENTIONED, WHITE AND TURNER ADOPTED THE LABOR CENTERS FOR THE CAMPUS IN ALEXANDRIA AND I THINK THAT WILL INCREASE THE CHANCES FOR RESPONSIBLE CONTRACTORS TO GET THAT WORK AND CREATE MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO COME INTO THE TRADES AND GET THE FREE TRAINING IN EITHER ELECTRICAL WORK OR CONTRACTING WORK OR WHATEVER ELSE THEY WANT TO DO. ALONG THOSE LINES, AMAZON ADOPTED THE LABOR STANDARDS AS WELL AND WE ARE GETTING SOME OF THE WORK AS WELL.
