I'M GOING TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE BUT FIRST I WANT TO WELCOME A COUPLE OF PEOPLE

[Chair Update]

[00:00:08]

THAT ARE JOINING, I ASKED THEM TO JOIN US AS PART OF THE COMMITTEE BECAUSE THEY'RE OBSERVING.

AS YOU GUYS WILL RECALL, MELISSA FROM TUCKER IS OFFICIALLY GOING TO JOIN THE COMMITTEE.

SHE JOINED US LAST MONTH.

AND, SO, THE SCHOOL BOARD WILL BE APPROVING HER.

AND THAT ACTUALLY GIVES US A FULL COMMITTEE.

WHICH IS VERY EXCITING BECAUSE IN MY WHOLE TENURE I DON'T KNOW THAT WE'VE EVER HAD A FULL COMMITTEE.

I'M THRILLED THAT WE HAVE SO MUCH EXCITEMENT AND PARTICIPATION FROM A BROAD PROSPECTIVE ACROSS THE CITY.

MANY, SUSTAIN, SCHOOLS, IT'S GREAT TO GET REPRESENTATION FROM ALL OVER THE DISTRICT.

KEVIN BRADY.

AND MICHAEL IS JOINING US.

I'VE SPOKEN TO THEM AND THEY HAVE A LOT TO BRING TO THE COMMITTEE.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT PROBABLY NEXT MEETING, BUT IT'S SOME OF -- ACTUALLY LIKE A THIRD OF THE COMMITTEE IS UP.

WE SERVE TWO-YEAR TERMS AND SO IF YOU GUYS, THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED FOR AWHILE, IF YOU'RE INTERESTING IN RETURNING TO THE COMMITTEE YOU SHOULD BE THINKING ABOUT THAT.

IF YOU KNOW YOU'RE PLANNING TO LEAVE THE COMMITTEE, IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN LEADERSHIP POSITIONS ON THE COMMITTEE.

WE WILL START GETTING INTO THAT MORE IN APRIL.

ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT WE'LL DO PROBABLY IN APRIL, MAYBE IN MAY, IS TO EXPAND THE NUMBER OF MEMBERS ON THE COMMITTEE.

WE WOULD HAVE TO MAKE A VOTE OF THE BY LAWS, I THINK THAT WARRANTS SOME DISCUSSION AND THE NATURE OF THE WAY THIS PARTICULAR MEETING IS SET UP TONIGHT, I JUST DON'T THINK WE CAN FIT IT IN.

I'VE ASKED THOSE INTERESTED TO CONTINUE JOINING OUR MEETINGS.

THE TERMS ALL TURN OVER IN JUNE, AND THEY'RE 2-YEAR TERMS. WELCOME TO THE COMMITTEE.

OKAY.

A COUPLE OF QUICK UPDATES.

A FEW WEEKS AGO, I ATTENDED ALONG WITH THE OTHER CHAIRS OF THE OTHER SCHOOL BOARD COMMITTEES, A MEETING WITH MEGHAN ALDERTON WHO IS NOW THE CHAIR OF THE SCHOOL BOARD AND OUR SCHOOL BOARD LIAISONS.

WHAT WE NEED HELP WITH, JUST A BROAD CONVERSATION.

IT'S ALWAYS VERY INTERESTING, I'M ABLE TO GLEAN A LOT OF GOOD TIPS FROM OTHER COMMITTEES.

AND ONE THING THAT I WAS ACTUALLY VERY EXCITED ABOUT, THAT I WAS ABLE TO JUST KIND OF CAME UP AND IT MADE SENSE TO ME.

BUT OUR PROCESS AS YOU KNOW THERE ARE SORT EVER TWO MAIN DOCUMENTS WE PRODUCE FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD.

AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR IT'S OUR SCOPE OF BOARD AND AT THE END OF THE YEAR IT'S OUR YEAR-END REPORT.

AND THAT'S WHAT THE MAJORITY OF THIS MEETING WILL BE ABOUT WILL BE THE SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS THAT FEED INTO OUR YEAR-END REPORT.

EVEN THOUGH WE SUBMIT IT AND IT'S ON DOCKET AND THEY APPROVE IT, IT'S DONE.

WE RARELY GET FEEDBACK FROM THE SCHOOL BOARD ABOUT THOSE DOCUMENTS.

THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT WAYS, EVEN IF JUST 10 OR 15 MINUTES, THAT WHEN THOSE ARE PRESENTED THE SCHOOL BOARD WOULD SPEAK TO THE COMMITTEE AND I THING THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL AS FAR AS GIVING DIRECTION, FEEDBACK, AGREEMENT, DISAGREEMENT.

I WANTED TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW THAT BECAUSE THAT WILL BE SOMETHING NEW.

>>> SO THE INDICATORS, THE REPORTS ARE THE STATISTICS FOR THE GIFTED PROGRAM FOR THE YEAR.

THEY ARE AVAILABLE.

I THINK AT THIS POINT, DR. MANN IS DOUBLE COMMITTED TONIGHT.

HE'S GOT A HIGH SCHOOL RELATED MEETING.

MY UNDERSTANDING WAS HE WAS GOING TO POTENTIALLY PRESENT THOSE WHICH JUST MEANS THAT WE GET THE FILE IN THIS MEETING.

I'M NOT SURE IF THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NOW.

EITHER WAY, THE IDEA IS THAT WE WILL HAVE TIME IN OUR APRIL MEETING TO LOOK AT THE INDICATOR REPORT.

[00:05:01]

I KNOW IN THE PAST WE HAVE HAD ENTIRE MEETINGS GOING OVER THAT, FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, THERE'S NOTHING VERY GROUND BREAKING IN THIS REPORT.

SO I DON'T KNOW THAT WE WILL SPEND THAT MUCH TIME JUST BECAUSE WE GOT A LOT OF OTHER STUFF WE NEED TO GET INTO THE NEXT SEVERAL MEETINGS.

BUT I'M WILLING TO TAKE FEEDBACK ON THAT BUT I HAVEN'T SEEN THAT YET SO WE'LL TAKE THAT AS IT COMES.

SUSAN HAS BEEN WORKING ON GETTING THE VIDEO FROM THE GUEST SPEAKERS THAT CAME TO OUR COMMITTEE AVAILABLE.

WE'VE TALK ABOUT THIS.

BECAUSE SOME OF THE BULB COMMITTEES MAY WANT TO GO BACK AND WATCH WHAT THE GUEST SPEAKER SAID.

AND SOME OF THOSE GUEST SPEAKERS, TWO OF THE THREE I KNOW WILL BE CAPTIONED.

SUSAN, DO YOU HAVE AN UPDATE ON THAT?

>> I WAS EXPECTING THEM TO BE READY FOR POSTING TODAY BUT I DIDN'T SEE THAT.

BUT I ALSO HAVE A LINK I COULD SEND TO YOUR COMMITTEE THAT THEY CAN WATCH THEM INDIVIDUALLY.

WE CAN'T POST THOSE BUT IF THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL.

>> YEAH, IF YOU WOULD SEND THAT TO US AT A MINIMUM, THAT WOULD BE GREAT BECAUSE THE SUBCOMMITTEES WILL LIKELY NEED SOME OF THOSE.

AND WE STILL WANT TO GET THEM CAPTIONED AND POSTED BECAUSE I'VE HEARD FROM OTHER PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY THAT ACTUALLY WANT TO WATCH WHAT THE GUEST SPEAKERS HAD TO SAY.

>> AND I DON'T KNOW WHY IT'S SO DELAYED, AND I APOLOGIZE, BUT WE'LL HOPEFULLY HAVE THEM SOON BECAUSE IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME.

>> I HOPE SO TOO.

SO WE HAVE THAT.

I THINK MOST OF YOU WELL, I THINK THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS, BUT SOME OF OUR GUESTS MAY NOT BE ON THE LIST, BUT THERE IS A GOOGLE GROUP.

I POSTED LAST WEEK THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A FREE SEMINAR THAT IS BEING HOSTED BY THE VIRGINIA ASSOCIATION OF GIFTED CHILDREN WHICH I ALSO SERVE ON.

I WANT TO SHOW YOU THAT.

HERE WE GO.

SO IT'S MARCH 18TH.

IT'S IN THE EVENING, 7:00 P.M.

TO 8:30 P.M.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER AND IT'S TALKING ABOUT THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL NEEDS FOR GIFTED LEARNERS.

THE PRESENTER IS A FACILITATOR.

THE VIRGINIA BEACH SCHOOL SYSTEM.

IT'S THE SAME ORGANIZATION OF SOCIAL EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF GIFTED CHILDREN.

AND SO, ANYWAYS, YOU COULD GO TO THE VA GIFTED.ORG WEBSITE AND REGISTER FOR FREE AND SO, I THINK THAT WILL BE VERY EXCITING.

OKAY.

>>> FREE WORKSHOP.

>>> THE LAST THING IS I WOULD LIKE TO GET SOME FEEDBACK FROM YOU GUYS MAYBE THROUGH INDIVIDUAL E-MAILS, BUT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE QUITE A BIT OF WORK TO DO.

AND LIKE I SAID, WE'VE GOT THE INDICATORS TO GO OVER, I'M STILL HOPING THAT DR.

HUTCHINGS WILL SPEAK TO US ABOUT THE TIMES FOR THE LOCAL PLAN.

SO THAT WOULD TAKE UP A GOOD PART OF THE MEETING, WE HAVE GOT TO RAP UP OUR YEAR-END REPORT.

AND WE GOT TO DISCUSS WHOSE COMING BACK TO THE COMMITTEE AND HANDLE NOMINATIONS.

I'VE TRIED TO KEEP OUR MEETINGS, BECAUSE IT'S ON ZOOM PRETTY LIGHT AS FAR AS NOT RUNNING THE FULL TWO HOURS.

I FEEL LIKE THESE LAST HANDFULS OF MEETING MAY DEFINITELY GO TO 9:00 AND SOME TO 9:30 ONE OF THE OTHER WAYS THAT WE MAY BE ABLE TO AVOID THAT IS HAVING SEPARATE SUBCOMMITTEE MEETINGS, TO GET THOSE REPORTS DONE.

SO, LET ME.

OH, AND THE OTHER REASON WHY WE NEED MORE TIME IN THE MEETING IS BECAUSE WE HAVE HIRED A DIRECTOR FOR ADVANCED ACADEMICS, I BELIEVE THAT WAS THE TITLE THAT WAS FINALIZED ON.

IT'S DONNA'S REPLACEMENT.

SHE'S COMING ON BOARD APRIL 7TH.

SHE IS AN ACPS PARENT.

SHE HAS HER DOCTORATE AND I'M REALLY EXCITED THAT SHE'S COMING ON BOARD AND SO

[00:10:03]

SHE'S ALSO GOING TO WANT TO ADDRESS THE COMMITTEE.

AND DR. MANN WAS GOING TO INTRODUCE HER, BUT HE'S HOPEFULLY CATCHING US AT THE END OF THE MEETING.

ALL RIGHT.

ALL THAT IS TO SAY, WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO NOW STARTING AT 7:15 IS BREAK INTO OUR SUBCOMMITTEES.

AND ONE THING THAT SUSAN SUGGESTED TO ME, WAS THAT YOU ALL CAN TURN OFF YOUR MICROPHONE AND YOUR VIDEO AND SHOW BACK UP AT THE MEETING AT YOUR TIME IF THAT WORKS OR YOU COULD COMPLETELY LOG OFF AND MAKE SURE WE'LL BE LOOKING FOR YOU IF IT'S YOUR SUBCOMMITTEE TIME.

FOR THOSE OBSERVING, YOU'RE WELCOMED TO JUST LISTEN IN TO ALL OF THE SUBCOMMITTEES.

I HAD CIRCULATED, I THINK TO YOU GUYS, JUST A REMINDER OF WHOSE ON WHAT SUBCOMMITTEE.

AND THEN LIKE A TEMPLATE TO PUT THOSE TOGETHER.

A PAGE OR TWO, WE WANT TO CAPTURE WHAT WE'VE LEARNED AND WHAT OUR RECOMMENDS WILL BE AS FAR AS THE SERVICES BEING OFFERED GOING FORWARD.

LET ME STOP THERE BEFORE WE GO OUR FIRST SUBCOMMITTEE IS VIRTUAL LEARNING.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? RENEE, I KNOW YOU'RE HERE.

CHRIS?

>> YOU'RE GOOD.

OKAY.

>> DOES ANYBODY ELSE ON THE COMMITTEE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW THIS IS GOING TO WORK TONIGHT?

>> NO.

OKAY.

PERFECT.

>> I HAVE A QUESTION JUST ABOUT THE MINUTES.

>> OH, RIGHT.

>> I'LL JUST SAY, EACH COMMITTEE OFFERED HAD WORK TIME.

>> I THINK THAT, YEAH.

>> BECAUSE IF WE WERE IN A LIVE MEETING, YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO COVER EVERYONE.

SO I THINK THAT'S FAIR.

>> I THINK THAT'S GOOD.

>> OKAY.

AWESOME.

ALL RIGHT.

SO, MY VIRTUAL LEARNING COMMITTEE LINDSEY AND D.

SO I'LL SEE THE NEXT COMMITTEE AT 7:35, THANKS GUYS.

>>> ALL RIGHT.

DEE I'M TURNING OVER TO YOU.

BECAUSE I THINK YOU'RE IN CHARGE.

>> HI.

>> I CAN'T HEAR YOU.

>> IT SAYS YOUR UNMUTED.

HOW ABOUT NOW.

>> THERE WE GO.

I DON'T KNOW, I HAVE A ZOOM THAT MAKES ME DIAL IN TWICE.

SORRY ABOUT THAT.

LET'S START.

>> ALL RIGHT.

SO BASICALLY, IT'S YOU AND ME.

[Subcommittee Virtual Learning]

AND I MAY DROP OFF VIDEO BECAUSE I'M LOOKING AT THE DOCUMENT ON MY COMPUTER.

>> OKAY, GREAT.

>> SO, BASICALLY, THE -- SORRY, HANG ON.

PIECES OF THE SCOPE OF WORK ARE SO TAG WILL REPORT BACK TO THE SCHOOL BOARD ON GIFTED NEEDS DURING VIRTUAL LEARNING BASED ON FEEDBACK FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND PARENTS.

SPECIFICALLY FOCUSED ON EFFORTS AS MENTIONED ABOVE TO MAXIMIZE POSITIVE EFFORTS FOR VIRTUAL LEARNING IN A WAY THAT BENEFITS ALL STUDENTS.

SO, THE BIG CHALLENGE THAT I SEE RIGHT AWAY IS THAT I DON'T KNOW WHERE WE GET THAT FEEDBACK.

>> YEAH.

I MEAN WE'VE HEARD IT ANECDOTELELY, RIGHT?

>> IT MAY HAVE BEEN ORGANIZATION.

I ALSO THOUGHT THAT YOU GUYS COULD REPORT ON THE STATUS OF THE YOUNG SCHOLARS PROGRAM AND THE PORTFOLIO PROCESS AS PART OF THIS.

SO IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE EXTENSIVE.

[00:15:03]

SO, I'M THINKING, SORT OF, I MEAN, SO YOUNG SCHOLARS LAST MEETING OR THE MEETING BEFORE THAT WE HAD WE GOT AN UPDATE ON WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH THE SCHOOLS AND YOUNG SCHOLARS.

IT IS NOW OFFICIALLY ROLLED OUT AT ALL THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, HIGHLIGHTING THE DIFFERENCES IN THE SCHOOLS, LIKE IT'S ADMINISTERED TO DIFFERENT GRADE LEVELS.

SOME IS PULLED OUT, SOME ARE DONE ALONG WITH OTHER GIFTED STUDENTS.

IT'S RECAPPING AND SUMMARIZING THE CONVERSATION FOR THAT.

THE PORTFOLIO, I THINK WE NEED TO TALK TO TIANNA AND DR. MANN.

BUT JUST FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROCESS IS LOOKING LIKE BECAUSE IT'S CHANGED.

AND SO, TO ME, THOSE PIECES DO COME AS PART OF VIRTUAL LEARNING.

AND THEN, I THINK YOU KNOW, WE COULD TALK ABOUT SOME OF THE ANECDOTELE STUFF AND YOU MAY JUST TAKE BROAD STROKES AT THAT.

OR MAYBE THE PRINCIPAL WHO HAS JOINED THE COMMITTEE, MAY BE ABLE TO JOIN.

IF YOU GUYS WANTED TO HAVE A SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING, MAYBE HE WOULD COME PROVIDE INFORMATION FROM SOME OF THE OTHER SCHOOLS.

I DON'T KNOW HOW WE WANT TO SAY IT, BUT SOME SCHOOLS DIDN'T MISS A BEAT WITH VIRTUAL LEARNING AND DELIVERING GIFTED SERVICES AND SOME SCHOOLS STRUGGLED.

WE KNOW THERE WERE ISSUES AT MASON.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WANT TO CALL OUT SPECIFIC SCHOOLS IN THE REPORT.

BUT I THINK WHAT WE WOULD WANT TO HIGHLIGHT IS, YOU KNOW, IT WAS DIFFICULT AND NOT EVERY SCHOOL WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE THE SERVICES WITHOUT INTERRUPTION KIND OF THING.

I DON'T KNOW.

I'M GIVING YOU A BROAD STROKE SO.

>> SO IT'S NOT THAT YOU WANT US CHECKING IN WITH EVERY SCHOOL FOR A REPORT FROM THEM AND HOW THEY SEE IT.

AND WE OBVIOUSLY CAN'T COLLECT MORE THAN A FEW ANECDOTAL STORIES.

>> I THINK WE WOULD PROBABLY, AND I THINK WHAT WE WOULD WANT TO GET ACROSS AS A COMMITTEE TO THE SCHOOL BOARD IS JUST, LIKE THIS WAS BUMPY.

JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE.

I JUST DON'T, I WOULD WANT IT TO TAKE A PAUSE TO SAY, LIKE, WHY WAS IT BUMPY, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES ARE THAT THERE'S NOT ONE PERSON WHOSE DIRECTLY ACCOUNTABLE FOR GIFTED SERVICES, IT'S A DELIVERY OF SERVICES BASED ON THE SCHOOLS.

IT'S NOT, IT'S GOING TO BE DIFFERENT AT EVERY SCHOOL.

SO, I THINK JUST CONTINUING TO STATE THAT.

BECAUSE, I THINK AS A COMMITTEE, WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE EQUITABLE APPLICATIONS OF THE SERVICES PROVIDED.

>> I THINK THAT'S YOUR ANGLE, WITHOUT CALLING INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS OUT, WHICH OF COURSE I WOULD NOT SUPPORT BUT GENERALLY SPEAKING, IF IT'S TRUE, THAT SOME OF THE ROAD BLOCKS DURING COVID ARE BECAUSE WE HAVE A SYSTEM WITH TAG THAT DOES LEAN HEAVILY ON SCHOOL-BASED LEADERSHIP.

THEN YOU COULD AT LEAST INCLUDE THAT AS A RECOMMENDATION TO KEEP REVIEWING AND MAKING SURE THAT SUPERVISION OF TAG AND TOLDING SCHOOLS THROUGH THEIR LEADER ACCOUNTABLE FOR TAG WOULD JUST BE A REMINDER TO THE SUPERINTENDENT AND THE SCHOOL BOARD.

>> I GUESS, THE OTHER THING THAT I WOULD SUGGEST THAT WE ADD TO THIS IS THAT THERE WERE SOME OPPORTUNITIES THAT THE VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT OFFERS US.

>> CORRECT.

>> AND I CERTAINLY SAW SOME OF THAT WITH MY OWN KIDS IN THAT BECAUSE THEY WERE VIRTUAL, BUMPED THEM INTO A BREAKOUT ROOM WITH ANOTHER TEACHER WHO COULD PULL FROM DIFFERENT CLASSES IN A WAY -- AND THIS IS BEFORE THE SEPARATED CLASSES AT 4TH

[00:20:05]

GRADE.

THESE ARE IN THE YOUNGER GRADES AND NOT ENTIRELY BASED ON TAG IDENTIFICATION, BUT IT ALLOWED FOR WHEN DONE WELL, IT CAN ALLOW FOR FOR.

TO BRING THAT SORT OF POSITIVE OPPORTUNITY >> I THINK TO BRING THAT POSITIVE OPPORTUNITY INTO THE REPORT WOULD BE GREAT BECAUSE THEN PEOPLE COULD START TO RETHINK AND THINK HOW COULD WE MAKE THIS MORE EQUITABLE.

HOW COULD WE INCLUDE, WE'VE TALKED A LOT ABOUT, OBVIOUSLY, THE SERVICES THAT GIFTED IDENTIFIED GIFTED CHILDREN NEED BUT THEN THERE'S ALSO THE STUDENTS WHERE THERE'S POTENTIAL AND BRINGING THEM INTO THE OPPORTUNITIES TO REALLY GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO FLOURISH AND SHOW UP IN TH CLASSROOM IF THEY'RE NOT ALREADY SHOWING UP.

SO.

>> I'VE TALKED A LOT.

AND YOU'RE THE LEADER.

I'M GOING TO STOP NOW AND YOU CAN LOOK.

>> WHAT ARE THE LIMITATIONS ARE WHAT LINDSEY AND I CAN DO?

>> BECAUSE IT'S JUST THE TWO OF US, CAN WE E-MAIL ABOUT THIS OR CAN WE ONLY TALK ABOUT IT IN A SCHEDULED MEETING?

>> I THINK YOU GUYS COULD ACTUALLY MEET JUST THE TWO OF YOU ONLINE.

AND YOU COULD EXCHANGE DOCUMENTS.

>> OKAY.

BUT IF WE WANTED TO HAVE A LONGER CONVERSATION WITH RENEE OR TIANNA, THAT'S THE KIND OF THINGS WE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A MEETING FOR.

>> UNLESS ONE OF YOU WANTS TO TALK TO EITHER ONE OF THEM AND BREAK IT APART.

>> CAN I CLARIFY THAT.

WHEN THE SUBCOMMITTEE IS ONLY MADE UP OF A FEW MEMBERS, YOU HAVE TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT WITH THERE BEING FEWER MEMBERS, IF THERE'S ONLY TWO ON THE COMMITTEE, THEN TWO OF THEM MAKE A MEETING.

>> TWO CAN MAKE A MEETING?

>> ON A SUBCOMMITTEE, YES.

>> I KNOW.

I'M SORRY.

OKAY.

JUST CLARIFICATION.

>> SO IF WE WERE HAVING A PHONE CALL OR WE'RE ONLINE TO DISCUSS, CAN WE SWAP BY E-MAIL WITHOUT IT BEING A MEETING OR A COMMUNICATION THAT SOMEHOW NEEDS TO.

CAN WE HAVE A BACK AND FORTH BY E-MAIL.

>> MAYBE WE CAN TAKE THIS OFF LINE SO WE DON'T TAKE UP YOUR TIME BUT I'LL SEND YOU INFORMATION.

>> THAT SOUNDS GOOD.

THANKS.

>> SO, LINDSEY, I GUESS WE'VE GOT THE VIRTUAL LEARNING DELIVERY OF SERVICES, WE HAVE YOUNG SCHOLARS UPDATE AND WE HAVE THE PORTFOLIO IDENTIFICATION PROCESS, RIGHT?

>> YES.

>> WE HAVE THOSE THREE ASPECTS THAT WE WANT TO SORT OF SUMMARIZE IN OUR REPORT.

WHAT OF THOSE IS MOST INTERESTING TO YOU?

>> WELL, I WANT TO DEFER DELIVERY OF SERVICES TO YOU, BECAUSE I THINK YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE THAT POSITIVE OPPORTUNITY ASPECT THAT YOU COULD ADD IN.

WE'VE BEEN IN A HOLDING PATTERN.

MY EXPERIENCE, I MEAN I'VE HEARD THE ANECDOTALS THAT FOLK HAVES SHARED IN MEETINGS, I'M HAPPY TO DO THE PORTFOLIO, I THINK WE'R GOING TO HAVE, I LOOKED BACK AT THE MINUTES AND HAVE A FACILITATIVE CONVERSATION.

>> I THINK THE YOUNG SCHOLARS WILL BE FAIRLY STRAIGHT FORWARD.

WE'RE JUST GOING TO TAKE FROM THE MINUTES, HERE'S WHAT'S BEEN DONE.

BUT I FEEL LIKE THE PORTFOLIO MIGHT BE A LITTLE MORE COMPLICATED.

WHY DON'T YOU DRAFT THE BIT ON PORTFOLIO, AND I CAN DRAFT A BIT ON DELIVERY OF SERVICES IN A VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT.

AND THEN WE CAN ARRANGE, DO YOU AND I WANT TO MEET AND THEN SEE IF WE WANT TO TALK TO ANYBODY ELSE, OR DO WE WANT TO TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE AND THEN COME BACK TOGETHER, YOU AND I, TO MEET.

>> I THINK IT DEPENDS ON THE PROCESS THAT WE'RE GOING TO GET MORE CLARIFICATION ONTO

[00:25:04]

WHAT THAT MEANS IF WE MEET.

>> OKAY.

ALL RIGHT.

BUT LAURA, WANTS ALTERNATIVE MEETING TIME.

>> YOU DON'T HAVE TO GIVE THOSE TO ME TONIGHT.

>> OKAY.

>> I JUST WANTED TO KIND OF, I JUST NEEDED TO LET THE SUBCOMMITTEES KNOW THAT WE'RE A LITTLE MORE CHALLENGED THIS YEAR, SO IT'S JUST SORT OF LIKE THINKING ABOUT.

>> THEY HAVE TO BE SCHEDULED.

GOT IT.

>> YEAH.

>> OKAY.

>> AND DR. MANN IF HE WERE ABLE TO JOIN WAS GOING TO GIVE AN UPDATE ON PORTFOLIO, HYBRID, YOU KNOW, ALL OF THE STUFF THAT WE TYPICALLY GET AS FAR AS WHAT'S GOING ON AT CENTRAL THAT EFFECTS THE SERVICES.

SO WE MAY GET SOME OF THAT TONIGHT.

AND DR. MANN IS ABLE TO SUPPORT THE COMMITTEES.

>> OKAY.

SO WE HAVE A LOT OF IRON OUT BUT THIS IS A GOOD START.

>> YES.

YES.

>> OKAY.

>> I'M JUST TRYING TO THINK IF THERE'S ANY...

YOU KNOW, JUST TO GIVE YOU, I MEAN, THE ONLY OTHER THING IS, YOU CAN LOOK AT NOT THE YEAR-END REPORT THAT I DID FOR SPRING OF 2020, BUT SPRING OF 2019.

THAT YEAR-END REPORT.

WE BASICALLY JUST SUBMITTED ADDENDUMS. WE'RE TALKING A PAGE OR TWO, THIS IS NOT A TON OF INFORMATION.

IT'S JUST TO FILL THE BOARD IN.

AND THINK ABOUT WHO OUR AUDIENCE IS.

THEY'RE NOT GIVING AN HOUR TO READ THIS.

WE'RE JUST SUBMITTING THE REPORT FOR FEEDBACK.

>> AND I'LL SEE HOW IT COMES IN.

FROM EACH SUBCOMMITTEE AND WE MAY JUST FILE AS THE SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS, OR MAYBE IT WILL ALL GO IN, I'M NOT SURE, WE'LL JUST HAVE TO SEE WHAT WE COME UP WITH.

>> ALL RIGHT.

>> SOUNDS GOOD.

>> OKAY.

COOL.

SO, LET ME JUST SAY THIS, IF YOU GUYS WANT TO COME OFF, I'M HOPING THAT I REALLY CAN GET FOLKS BACK ON AT 8:55 SO WE CAN APPROVE THE MINUTES, AND YOU'RE WELCOMED TO LISTEN IN TO OTHER STUFF.

SO.

THANKS YOU GUYS.

>> ALL RIGHT.

SO WE'RE UP TO IDENTIFICATION AND TESTING.

[Subcommittee Identification & Testing]

JULIA, DAPHNE AND ASHA.

>> HI, JULIA.

>> HI, THERE.

>> WE'RE A FEW MINUTES EARLY, BUT.

>> DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE YOUR SUBCOMMITTEE GETS INTO IT.

WAS THE TEMPLATE, LIKE THIS THING I SENT MADE SENSE.

YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH THIS PROCESS MULTIPLE TIMES.

>> ONE THING EPHORS WONDERING IS DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS AND MAYBE WE JUST NEED TO TALK TO SINCE THEY'RE DOING DIFFERENT THINGS THIS YEAR WITH THE IDENTIFICATION, I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO FIND OUT, AND TALK TO THEM ABOUT HOW IS IT GOING? ARE THEY FINDING THAT THESE NEW METHODS ARE HELPFUL, ARE THEY SEEING THINGS THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE.

I THOUGHT THAT WOULD BE AN INTERESTING THING AND I'M NOT SURE IF.

>> YOU MEAN THE TALENT SEARCH COMMITTEE.

>> YES.

>> I DON'T KNOW IF THAT GOT OFF THE GROUND REALLY, THIS YEAR.

>> UM, RENEE, DO YOU KNOW IF IT DID?

>> I DO, AND I DO KNOW THAT STUDENTS, THAT INDIVIDUAL PORTFOLIOS ARE BEING REVIEWED RIGHT NOW BY TEACHERS.

>> IS THAT PART OF THE THIRD -- I THINK WHAT JULIA'S REFERRING TO IS THE I THINK THIS IDEA OF THE TALENT SEARCH COMMITTEE.

DONNA WAS LOOKING AND WAS SUPPOSED TO GET FUNDING AND IT WOULD BE PEOPLE THAT WERE GOING TO USE, I GUESS SORT OF NON-TRADITION METHODS TO HELP IDENTIFY STUDENTS.

SO THE PORTFOLIO IS KIND OF ONE OF THOSE METHODS, EXCEPT THAT WAS USED BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC AND IT'S BEING DONE ACROSS THE ENTIRE FIRST AND THIRD GRADE.

I THINK THE TALENT SEARCH COMMITTEE IDEA WOULD BE SOMETHING ACROSS ALL GRADE

[00:30:06]

LEVELS AND WOULD BE THIS SELECT GROUP.

IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT?

>> I WAS ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT BOTH.

BECAUSE I WOULD LIKE, SINCE WE'RE USING PORTFOLIOS THIS YEAR, I THINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO FIND OUT, HOW ARE THE SCHOOLS, ARE THEY FINDING THAT EFFECTIVE, IS THAT ALLOWING THEM TO SEE NEW THINGS.

HOW DOES THAT COMPARE, YOU KNOW, SINCE WE'RE LOOKING AT THE MORE TRADITION TESTING, I THINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL FOR US TO SEE WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THESE, HOW IT'S GOING WHEN THEY'RE HAVING TO DO SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T INVOLVE THE NORMAL TESTING.

SO AS LONG AS WE'RE GETTING INTO IDENTIFICATION AND TESTING, I THINK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO FIND OUT THIS YEAR WHAT ARE THEY FINDING AND HAVE THE KIDS BEEN SUCCESSFUL OR DO THEY HAVE ANY COMMENTS ON.

>> WE'RE IN LINE WITH THE LOCAL NORMS THAT WE MENTIONED EARLIER?

>> WOULD IT BE?

>> YES.

I'M ASKING.

>> IN MY VIEW IT'S SEPARATE FROM LOCAL NORMS, TO ME, LOCAL NORMS WOULD BE LIKE A VERY DATA-DRIVEN, LIKE WE LOOK AT THE SCHOOL AND WE TAKE THE TOP 5% FOR THAT SCHOOL, WHERE AS TO ME, TALENT SEARCH AND.

>> COULD WE DO THAT PER CLASSROOM OR PER GRADE.

>> THE LOCAL TALENT SEARCH OR THE LOCAL NORM?

>> THE LOCAL NORM AND TALENT, I GUESS I NEED TO.

ANYBODY WHO GET IT IS 92% AND ABOVE IS AUTOMATICALLY REFERRED.

THE LOCAL NORM IS GOING TO SAY WE'RE GOING TO CHANGE THE 92% FOR EACH SCHOOL.

>> SO, YOU'RE LOOKING AT LOCAL NORMS DEALS MORE WITH STANDARDIZED TEST SCORES AND I WAS THINKING IN A WAY THAT THE LOCAL NORMS FOR SOME REASON I WAS THINKING WOULD BE MORE CRITERIA BASED AND NOT NECESSARILY NORM.

BECAUSE WHEN YOU GIVE THESE STANDARDIZED TESTS, YOU GET INTO POTENTIAL FOR BIAS, ALL KINDS OF TESTING BIAS, BUT IF YOU'RE LOOKING AT CRITERIA BASED DATA THEN WE KNOW THAT EVERYONE HAS BEEN EXPOSED TO THE SAME LEVEL OF INFORMATION.

>> SO, I'M ONLY USING LOCAL NORM RELATED TO TESTING BECAUSE THAT'S HOW IT'S USED NATIONALLY, SO WHEN THE DOCTORS TALK TO US.

I'M USING IT IN REFERENCE FOR THAT.

>> OKAY.

THANKS, I'M TAKING NOTES.

>> YEAH.

SO, ALL RIGHT.

SO ON THE SUBCOMMITTEE THAT I JUST TALKED TO, IS THE VIRTUAL LEARNING YOUNG SCHOLARS, AND I DID MENTION PORTFOLIO, WHICH WOULD BE WHAT YOU WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT JULIA.

SO THAT MAYBE A BETTER PLACE FOR IT TO BE REPORTED.

BECAUSE YOU GUYS HAVE -- I MEAN, NOT THAT WE CAN'T, I'M HAPPY TO SUPPLY THE INFORMATION, THE STUFF DOES OVERLAP, BUT I THINK AS FAR AS IDENTIFICATION AND TESTING, I WAS HOPING THIS COMMITTEE WOULD LOOK AT SORT OF OUR OBVIOUSLY, THE GUEST SPEAKERS THAT CAME AND SPOKE SPECIFICALLY ABOUT TESTING.

WE HERD FROM DR. NGAGLIARY FROM THAT MEETING.

WE HAVE ACCESS TO THE MINUTES FOR THAT MEETING.

AND THEN THERE ARE FIVE THINGS IN OUR CURRENT PROCESS IN THE LOCAL PLAN ARE PART OF IDENTIFICATION.

SO, I'M THINKING THAT WHAT I'M HOPING THIS COMMITTEE WOULD REPORT ON THOSE THINGS AND THEN YOU MIGHT SAY, FOR EXAMPLE, ONE OF THE THINGS BOTH DOCTORS TALKED ABOUT WAS THE IDEA OF LOCAL NORMS. SO THIS COMMITTEE COULD REPORT BACK AND SAY, WE'RE INTERESTED OR THIS IS WHY WE THINK LOCAL NORMS WOULD MAKE SENSE AT ALEXANDRIA CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

SO THAT'S ON A SCHOOL BY SCHOOL BASIS.

OR YOU MAY SAY WE'RE INTERESTED IN THE WAY THE PORTFOLIO PROJECT START THIS HAD YEAR THAT IS AN OPPORTUNITY OF HOW TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL GOING FORWARD FOR STUDENTS.

YOU KNOW, I'M NOT SURE IN WHAT DIRECTION YOU WANT TO GO.

I DON'T WANT YOUR SCOPE TO BE SO BIG.

SO THAT'S KIND OF WHAT I WAS GETTING AT FOR THE SUBCOMMITTEE.

[00:35:03]

IS THAT HELPFUL OR...

>> SORRY, I WAS TAKING MYSELF OFF MUTE.

I THINK THAT IS HELPFUL.

TO, DAPHNE, I DON'T SEE ASHA.

>> SHE'S HERE.

>> DO YOU WANT TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT DATES OR DAYS WHEN IT WOULD BE EASY TO TALK?

>> YEAH.

>> I DON'T KNOW.

JUST.

TUESDAYS ARE GOOD FOR ME.

>> TUESDAY, WHAT TIME BECAUSE I WORK.

>> YEAH, ME TOO.

>> SAME HERE, I WAS THINKING LIKE 7:00.

>> LET'S SEE, HOLD ON.

TUESDAY AT 7:00.

TUESDAYS SEEM TO BE GOOD FOR ME AROUND THAT TIME.

ACTUALLY, THAT'S THE ONLY DAY.

TUESDAY.

DOES THAT WORK FOR YOU DAPHNE?

>> YEP.

I CAN MAKE IT WORK.

>> AROUND 7:00?

>> YEAH, I WAS THINKING IF WE COULD JUST PICK A DAY THEN MAYBE SUSAN CAN TELL US, YOU KNOW, WHAT TUESDAYS ARE AVAILABLE.

BUT THAT WOULD AT LEAST GIVE US A PLANNING POINT.

>> THAT SOUNDS GOOD.

TUESDAYS WORK.

>> OKAY.

>> AND THEN, I THOUGHT I HEARD LAURA, THAT SUSAN'S GOING TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ON HOW WE CAN COORDINATE DRAFTS AND THINGS.

>> YEAH, I THINK IF YOU SENT YOUR LEADER FOR THIS SUBCOMMITTEE, AND YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH THIS BEFORE, IF YOU'RE THE MASTER OF THE DRAFT THEN SHELL PROVIDE US INFORMATION.

BUT I THINK IF YOU GUYS ARE SETTING A TIME, LIKE TUESDAYS AT 7:00.

I'M JUST GOING TO COMPLETE, THE REPORT THING I PUT HERE AND SEND IT BACK TO ME.

THEN I WILL COMPILE THAT FOR SUSAN.

WE STILL HAVE TO MAKE YOUR MEETING ZOOM AND IT'S GOING TO BE PUBLIC.

NOT THAT I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE RACING TO ATTEND ALL OUR SUBCOMMITTEE MEETINGS.

BUT ANYWAYS, I THINK YOU GUYS CAN HASH OUT A FAIR AMOUNT ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE AN HOUR.

>> IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WE COULD POTENTIALLY JULIA IS THIS SOMETHING THAT MAYBE WE COULD CREATE A GOOGLE DOC AND WE COULD OUTLINE HOW WE'RE GOING TO ADDRESS IT.

I DON'T KNOW.

>> THAT'S WHAT, LIKE MARK AND I WORKED ON ONE IN THE PAST AND THAT'S HOW WE DID IT, WE HAD A GOOGLE DOC THAT WE WERE BOTH EDITING.

AND IT WORKED WELL, NOW, THAT WAS BEFORE COVID, BUT I'M ASSUMING IT WOULD WORK SIMILARLY.

I'M PRETTY SURE IT DIDN'T VIOLATE ANY OF THE RULES.

SO, DO YOU GUYS WANT TO SPLIT UP YOU KNOW WHO WOULD DO KIND OF FOCUS ON THE TW DOCTORS, I DON'T HAVE A PARTICULAR PREFERENCE.

WE COULD WORK ON ALL OF THEM TOGETHER AND START WORKING ON A DRAFT TOGETHER.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS WANT TO DO.

I'M 6-1 HALF DOZEN ANOTHER.

>> DOESN'T MATTER.

I CAN COVER EITHER DOCTOR, IT DOESN'T MATTER.

>> I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO LEAVE IT AT, LET'S JUST DO ALL OF THEM AND COLLABORATE.

>> IF YOU'RE GOING TO DIVVY UP.

>> WE COULD FOCUS ON ONE AND GIVE THE FEEDBACK.

I THINK THAT'S BEST.

>> DO YOU WANT TO GO IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER? WE'LL WATCH THE VIDEO AND THEN GIVE FEEDBACK.

OKAY.

GOTCHA.

>> AND THEN WE CAN MEET AND FLUSH IT OUT AND MOVE ON TO THE OTHER?

>> SOUNDS GOOD.

>> OKAY.

>> MAKE CLEAR ON WHAT THE GOAL IS BEFORE WE MOVE OFF, SO WE DON'T DO SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE AND I THINK WE'RE GOOD.

>> YEAH.

>> IS IT POSSIBLE, JULIA, CAN YOU SEND US A GOOGLE DOC WITH AN OUTLINE AND

[00:40:09]

MAYBE WE COULD ADD IDEAS WITHIN THE OUTLINE.

JUST BRAIN DUMP, JUST PUT EVERYTHING WE'RE THINKING AND AFTERWARDS WE COULD CLEAN IT UP.

>> MAYBE WHAT WE COULD START DOING IS EVEN JUST BRAIN STORMING QUESTIONS OR ISSUING THAT WE WERE WANTING TO MENTION AND THEN WE COULD FIND OF FLUSH IT OUT FROM THERE.

>> YEP.

>> OKAY.

>> OKAY.

FANTASTIC.

OKAY.

SO IN TERMS OF THE MEETING.

EXCUSE ME, I APOLOGIZE IF I'M A LITTLE SLOW TODAY.

SO WE'RE MEETING ON TUESDAYS AND WE HAVE TO MEET VIA THE VIDEO CONFERENCE OR ARE WE MEETING.

OKAY.

GOTCHA.

>> YEAH, I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO SET UP SOMETHING LIKE THIS, MAYBE WE CAN PLAN IT.

MAYBE WE CAN HOPEFULLY MEET EITHER NEXT TUESDAY OR IN TWO WEEKS.

>> I HOPE SO.

SUSAN, ARE YOU THERE AT THE MOMENT?

>> I'M HERE.

I'M LISTENING.

SO, I HAVE ONE MEETING NEXT TUESDAY, BUT I WILL CHECK ON THAT DATE AND WE HAVE TWO PLATFORMS, SO THERE IS ANOTHER PLATFORM WE COULD TRY TO USE PROVIDING WE'RE NOT STEPPING ON SOMEBODY ELSE'S EVENT.

BUT THERE ARE THREE PLATFORMS WE COULD USE BUT SCHOOLS ALSO USE THEM.

I'LL CHECK IN ON THOSE, I CAN'T DO IT WHILE IN ZOOM AT THE MOMENT.

>> OKAY.

NO PROBLEM.

OKAY.

SO WE WILL, I GUESS OUR HOMEWORK WILL BE WE'LL WATCH THE VIDEO, WE'LL KIND OF TENTATIVELY PLAN FOR NEXT TUESDAY AND I WILL SEND YOU ALL OUT A DRAFT HOPEFULLY BY THE END OF THIS WEEK JUST STARTING TO THROW IN SOME QUESTIONS AND WE CAN START GOING THERE.

I JUST ONCE SUSAN HAS TOLD US EXACTLY HOW WE CAN START EDITING, I'LL THROW SOMETHING OUT THERE AND WE CAN GO FROM THERE.

>> SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN.

>> OKAY.

>> I THINK, THE MINUTES YOU GUYS CAN LOOK AT THE MINUTES FOR THOSE MEETINGS AS WELL.

BECAUSE THOSE ARE HELPFUL.

I THINK I HAVE MORE EXTENSIVE NOTES FROM THE NAGLIARI AND THIS WAS OVER A YEAR AGO.

I CAN FIND THOSE AND EMAIL THOSE TO YOU.

>> SOME OF THESE ISSUES OVERLAP TO IT WAS A LITTLE CHALLENGING.

BUT DR. PLUCKER DEFINITELY HAD THINGS IN HIS TALK THAT APPLY TO IDENTIFICATION AND PROBABLY I DON'T WANT TO CREATE UNDUE WORK, SO MAYBE JUST REFERENCING THE MINUTES AND SEE IF THERE'S ANYTHING APPLICABLE BEFORE WATCHING THAT WHOLE TALK AGAIN.

LEE HAD REALLY EXTENSIVE NOTES FROM THAT PRESENTATION.

>> I'M SORRY, HOW WOULD WE ACCESS?

>> SUSAN SAID THAT SHE'S GOING TO SEND IT TO THE COMMITTEE WE'RE TRYING TO GET IT CAPTIONED SO THEY CAN PUT ON THE WEBSITE DR. PLUCKER AND DORNS PRESENTATION FOR THIS YEAR.

SHE IS THE LINK AND I'LL SEND THAT TO YOU GUYS AND THE SAME FOR DR. AGLIARI.

THANKS, YOU GUYS.

>> THANK YOU.

>> CAN YOU JUST FILL OUT THE FORM, JULIA AND GET IT BACK TO ME.

YEAH.

OKAY.

PERFECT.

>> IS THAT NEXT TUESDAY, OR TOMORROW.

>> AT LEAST A WEEK FROM NOW, I THINK.

>> AND WHEN IT IS THIS DUE?

>> I THINK, OH, WHEN IS IT DUE?

>> OH, I DIDN'T DISCUSS THAT.

WE PROBABLY NEED A REALLY GOOD DRAFT FOR THE MAY MEETINGS.

SO HOPEFULLY APPROVE IN JUNE.

[00:45:03]

BUT THAT HASN'T ALWAYS HAPPENED, SO, I THINK WE JUST HAVE TO GIVE OURSELVES A LITTLE BREAK TO SEE HOW THE PROCESS IS WORKING THROUGH HAVING TO DO THIS ON THE WEB WITH THESE SEPARATE MEETINGS.

I DON'T WANT TO OVERWHELM PEOPLE WITH A LOT MORE EXTRA TIME THAN WE NORMALLY WOULD HAVE FOR THIS COMMITTEE.

IDEALLY WE WOULD HAVE SOMETHING PRETTY FINAL BY MAY BUT IF IT'S JUNE AND WE HAVE TO POLISH IT OVER THE SUMMER WE COULD SUBMIT IN SEPTEMBER IF WE HAVE TO OR OVER THE SUMMER.

>> OKAY.

SOUNDS GOOD.

>> ALL RIGHT.

THANKS.

>> AND IF YOU GUYS CAN COME BACK AT 8:55 SO WE COULD APPROVE THE MINUTES AND GET A QUICK UPDATE FROM DR. MANN, I WOULD APPRECIATE THAT.

THANKS GUYS.

BYE.

>> OKAY.

GUEST SPEAKER RECOMMENDATIONS, I THINK WE'RE RUNNING A LITTLE

[Subcommittee Guest Speaker Recommendations]

AHEAD OF TIME.

>> I'M HERE, I SEE MARYBETH AND I SEE ZION, ARE YOU COMING, ARE YOU READY?

>> YOU COULD GET READY, SOMEBODY ASKED ME FOR A PHONE NUMBER.

I'M GOING TO GRAB THAT AND YOU COULD GET STARTED, MARK, IF YOU WANT.

>> IT WE'RE WAITING FOR ZION, DID YOU PULL THE MINUTES FROM THE LAST SPEAKER, DID YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO GO TO THE ACPS SITE AND PULL THOSE?

>> I GUESS YOU DROPPED OFF.

>> DO YOU NEED TO SEE THOSE MINUTES RIGHT NOW?

>> NO, I PULLED THEM ALREADY.

I HAVE THEM.

>> YOU HAVE THEM MARK.

>> CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW.

>> CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW.

>> I CAN HEAR YOU NOW.

YEP.

>> GREAT.

NO, I HAVEN'T SEEN THOSE.

>> BECAUSE, I THINK THE ONES FOR DR. PLUCKER ARE PRETTY GOOD AND EXTENSIVE.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE VIDEO TO SEE A COUPLE OF THINGS, THERE ARE A FEW THINGS I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND, WHEN HE TALKED ABOUT POTENTIAL, HOW YOU TEST FOR POTENTIAL, I'M NOT SURE HOW TO DO THAT, THAT WAS ONE O THE THINGS.

WHILE WE'RE WAITING ON ZION.

ONE THING THAT I JUST EVES DROPPED ON THE LAST MEETING, ONE THING WE OWE IS HOW MUCH TIME DO WE NEED TO DO THIS REPORT, AND WHAT ALTERNATIVE MEETING DATES DO WE THINK WE CAN MEET, AND THEN WHO FROM ACPS DO WE WANT TO JOIN.

AND I HADN'T REALLY THOUGHT OF THAT THAT MUCH.

ZION DO YOU HAVE ANY INITIAL THOUGHTS ON THAT?

>> YOU'RE REALLY QUIET, CAN YOU SPEAK LOUDER, PLEASE.

>> .

(INAUDIBLE) >> I THINK I HEARD YOU SAY YOU DON'T HAVE INPUTS RIGHT NOW, YOU'RE STILL THINKING ABOUT IT.

>> MARY BETH DID YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON THOSE INITIAL QUESTIONS.

>> I THINK WE COULD PROBABLY DO THIS IN ONE ADDITIONAL MEETING, MAYBE TWO, SO IF WE SORT OF DIVIDE UP THE WORK AND WORK ON IT SEPARATELY AND THEN WE COULD CONVENE AND DO IT IN ONE OR TWO SESSIONS TO COMBINE THE SECTIONS WHAT DO YOU THINK?

>> I AGREE, I THINK IF THE THREE OF US AT LEAST GO THROUGH THE TOPICS AND COME UP WITH FIVE OR SIX TOPICS WE THINK ARE THE ONES WE WANT TO TALK ABOUT AS THE SUBCOMMITTEE.

AND I THINK WE NARROW IT DOWN TO THREE OR FOUR, AND THEN AT THAT MEETING, WE COME, THESE ARE MY SIX TOPICS, I THINK WE SHOULD TALK ABOUT AND THESE ARE MY SIX AND I'M SURE THERE'LL BE OVERLAP AND WE PICK THREE OR FOUR THE ONES WE RECOMMEND AND WHY.

I THINK HE RECOMMENDED TO DO TESTING IN SECOND AND FOURTH GRADE, I DON'T THINK IT'S PRACTICAL TO TRY AND SHIFT IT, I THINK OUR FIRST AND THIRD IS PROBABLY OKAY.

SO PICK THE ONES I THINK WE COULD HAVE THE MOST ACCESS ON.

IF WE DO SOME OFF-LINE HOMEWORK AND COME BACK FOR A MEETING WE COULD DISCUSS

[00:50:01]

WHAT THEY ARE AND FROM THAT ONE WE COULD DIVIDE UP WRITING PARAGRAPHS TYPE THINGS AND THEN COME BACK AND DO ONE FINAL EDIT AS A THREE-PERSON GROUP.

I THINK TWO MORE MEETINGS, ONE AFTER THIS ONE AND ONE FINAL TO FINAL UP THE PROJECT.

>> YEAH, THAT SOUNDS GOOD.

>> AND LAURA, TO BE CLEAR THIS IS JUST SUMMARIZING THE GUEST SPEAKERS WE'VE HAD, RIGHT, NOT MAKING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR GUEST SPEAKERS FOR NEXT YEAR?

>> NO, IT'S NOT MAKING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR NEXT YEAR.

>> THE WAY I UNDERSTOOD IS THAT WE HAD SOME GUEST SPEAKERS THAT PUT OUT RADICAL RECOMMENDATIONS, WE SHOULD DO SEPARATION ON ABILITY.

THAT'S VERY CONTROVERSIAL WITHIN OUR SYSTEM AND I THINK THAT'S WHAT WE CAN DISCUSS AS OUR TEAM AND SAY IS THAT SOMETHING WE WANT DO OR NOT, AND WHY OR WHY NOT AND THAT'S THE KIND OF FEEDBACK WE WANT TO GIVE THE SCHOOL BOARD.

AND HERE'S WHY.

AND I THINK THAT'S THE VALUE ADDED.

WE DO AS THE COMMITTEE TO THE SCHOOL BOARD BASED ON THINGS LIKE THAT.

>> OKAY.

SOUNDS GOOD.

>> SINCE IT'S MY PASSION, BUT I CAN BE OVERRULED BY THE REST OF THE COMMITTEE.

BUT, I MEAN, I LOVE THE SING MODEL THAT SHE USED IN VIRGINIA BEACH TO SUPPORT FAMILIES, PARTICULARLY FAMILIES THAT MAY NOT REALIZE THEIR CHILD IS GIFTED.

AND THANKFULLY WE HAD SOME FOLKS FROM THE COUNSELLING DEPARTMENT ATTEND THAT MEETING.

BUT MY GUESS IS LIKE, THAT'S LIKE A BUDGET ITEM.

SO MY GUESS IS, I MEAN COUNSELLING IS NOT NECESSARILY GOING TO PUT THAT IN THEIR BUDGET.

>> ONE OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS I READ IN THAT ONE WAS PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS.

HEY, I'M A PARENT OF A GIFTED KID, AND YOU'RE A PARENT AND YOUR GIFTED KID IS A KINDERGARTENER.

THAT KIND OF SUPPORT GROUP WAS RECOMMENDED.

AND MY EXPERIENCE WITH ACPS, I NEVER HAD ANY OF THOSE OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE TO TALK TO OTHER PARENTS OF GIFTED KIDS AND WHAT WORKS AND WHAT DOESN'T WORK.

AND SO THAT'S SOMETHING TO CONSIDER, MAYBE AS A COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS THAT PARENT VOLUNTEERS DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

BUT, I THINK THOSE ARE THE THINGS WE COULD DISCUSS IN THE SUBCOMMITTEE, IS ADD SOMETHING LOW-COST WHERE YOU GET TAG VOLUNTEERS OR TAG TEACHERS OR WHATEVER TO TALK ABOUT.

THESE ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF GIFTED KIDS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

THAT'S WHAT A LOT OF THE IDENTIFICATION GROUPS, YOU KNOW, WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF GIFTED CHILDREN AND HOW DO YOU IDENTIFY THAT.

AND THAT'S A LOT OF WHAT PLUCKER WAS TALKING ABOUT, HOW DO YOU IDENTIFY POTENTIAL.

AND I GOT TO DO MORE RESEARCH ON THAT, HOW DO YOU TEST FOR POTENTIAL.

YOU COULD GIVE A TEST AND THEY DO WELL, AND THEY CAN SCORE WELL, BUT HOW DO YOU TEST POTENTIAL.

I THINK THAT'S MORE OBSERVING.

>> WAS THE REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE FACE?

>> I THINK LIKE THINKING ABOUT THEMES, I THINK TAKING DORN'S PRESENTATION AND CHRISTIANS, EVEN IF THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO STAFF A COUNSELORING POSITION FOR NEXT YEAR, THE THEME OF COMMUNICATION AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION WITH FAMILIES WAS SO CLEAR IN BOTH OF THOSE PRESENTATIONS FOR ME.

THAT MAY NOT BE SOMETHING THAT COULD BE ACCOMPLISHED NEXT YEAR IN THE WAY THAT WE MIGHT WANT IT TO BE FULLY BUT THAT COULD BE ON THE HORIZON.

SO I THINK BOTH OF THOSE TOGETHER AND HIGHLIGHTING THE BENEFITS OF THAT PROGRAM FOR FUTURE YEARS TOO EVEN IF IT CAN'T BE ACCOMPLISHED TEMPT BUDGET FOR NEXT YEAR.

DOES THAT MAKE SENSE, LAURA.

>> IT DOES.

I THINK VIRGINIA BEACH IS OBVIOUSLY MUCH LARGER THAN WE ARE.

THEY HAVE A MUCH LARGER CENTRAL OFFICE STAFF THAT SUPPORTS THEIR GIFTED PROGRAM AND ACADEMIC ARTS THAN WE DO.

AND SO THIS IS RUN OUT OF THEIR CENTRAL OFFICE STAFF, BUT IT'S SORT OF LIKE, YOU KNOW, WOULD IT BE WORTH HAVING, WOULD ONE OF THE TAG TEACHERS BE INTERESTED IN GETTING THE SING CERTIFICATION.

AND AT LEAST, BEING, THAT WAS LIKE $1,000 OR $2,000.

[00:55:04]

I DON'T KNOW HOW IT WILL WORK OUT, BUT JUST.

I THINK THE WHOLE SYSTEM, THE WHOLE ALEXANDRIA SYSTEM RIGHT NOW IS SO FOCUSED ON SOCIAL EMOTIONAL, AND I THINK THERE IS A SPECIFIC COMPONENT, AND WE ALL KNOW THIS LIVING IT, FOR THE SPECIFIC SOCIAL EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF GIFTED KIDS AND IT COULD COME UP VERY DIFFERENTLY.

SO, JUST GETTING MORE PEOPLE LIKE, CERTIFIED OR KNOWLEDGEABLE OR HAVING THAT IS KIND OF WHAT I WAS GETTING AT.

SO, YES, I THINK GETTING MORE PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS BUT GIVING OPPORTUNITIES.

I MEAN, MAYBE A PRINCIPAL WANTS TO GET THE SING CERTIFICATION.

WE DON'T WANT TO NECESSARILY SAY THAT IT HAS TO BE TO A COUNSELOR.

THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES ACROSS THE SYSTEM TO GET MORE PEOPLE PREPARED.

AND THE CHALLENGES, IN VIRGINIA BEACH THEY ROLLED OUT IN THE TITLE ONE SCHOOLS BECAUSE YOU NEED CHALLENGES FOR THE GIFTED KIDS OR THE POTENTIAL STUDENTS.

AND IT'S HOW DO YOU MAKE IT A WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT FOR THOSE STUDENTS TO NOT ONLY PARTICIPATE IN THOSE PROGRAMS BUT FOR THEIR FAMILIES AND PARENTS TO SUPPORT THEM AND FEEL WELCOMED INTERACTING WITH THOSE PARENTS AND TEACHERS.

>> I THINK THAT'S A GOOD POINT AND I THINK THAT WE COULD THINK ABOUT WAYS TO PRESENT IT THAT WOULD, LIKE, I THINK THAT REFLECT JUST WHAT YOU SAID.

IS THAT THERE MAYBE ALTERNATE WAYS TO IMPLEMENT THIS IN A WAY THAT COULD BE DONE MORE QUICKLY.

AND THAT IT WAS SO SUCCESSFUL.

AND SO IT'S WORTH LOOKING INTO THAT.

>> ON THAT POINT, I THINK I CAN SAY A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT, THEY KIND OF THEY HAVE THE PARENT RESOURCE CENTER IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS BUT WE DON'T HAVE THEM IN MIDDLE SCHOOLS, BUT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, THERE'S A LOT OF PARENTS THAT SHOW UP.

THEY COME THERE AND THEY TALK ABOUT ANY TOPIC.

SO, FOR ME WHEN I WENT TO THAT ROOM, WE TALKED ABOUT WHAT HAD THEY ASKED QUESTIONS, AND YOU KNOW, PARENTS, TWO PARENT TO GET INFORMATION TO EACH OTHER BEFORE WE GOT INFORMATION FROM THE SCHOOL.

SO THAT KIND OF PARENT RESOURCE GROUP HELPED US TO KNOW ABOUT TAG A LITTLE BIT.

AND IT EXISTS THAT SOMETIMES SOME OF THE INVOLVED PARENTS LIKE THERE'S A GROUP OF PARENTS, THEY MOVE TO MIDDLE SCHOOL OR HIGH SCHOOL, AND NO ONE IS GOING TO FOLLOW UP OR GOING THROUGH IT, LIKE THE PARENTS LIAISON WILL NOT CONTINUE THOSE INFORMATION THOSE COMMUNICATIONS.

I MEAN, I HEARD THE SPEAKERS THAT DAY SORT OF THEY ARE SAYING THE SAME THING AS OUR COMMUNICATION SHOULD BE STRENGTH BUT OF ALWAYS IT'S UP AND DOWN.

SO, WE SHOULD PARENT RESOURCE CENTER IN EVERY SCHOOL AND THE PARENTS AND LIAISONS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE INFORMED ABOUT THE TEST.

IF YOU ASK THEM ABOUT THE TEST THEY KNOW, I KIND OF ASKED LAST WEEK WHAT THE PARENT LIAISON, DO YOU WANT IS TAG? THEY DON'T KNOW T THAT KIND OF INFORMATION, THEY KNOW KIND OF, IT'S CHANGED BETWEEN PARENTS, TEACHER, AND PARENT LIAISON AND THEN SCHOOLS SHOULD FOLLOW UP.

THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING.

AND I KNOW THAT WHAT I'VE BEEN INVOLVED WITH PARENTS A LOT, AND THERE'S INFORMATION ON PARENTS CONFERENCE EIGHT YEARS AGO.

IT'S BEEN EIGHT YEARS AGO.

SO IT'S NEVER BEEN DONE AFTER EIGHT YEARS AGO.

THAT WAS ONE TIME, EIGHT YEARS AGO.

[01:00:03]

IT SHOULD BE REPEATED EVERY YEAR INFORMATION CONFERENCE OR WORKSHOP.

THAT'S MY THOUGHTS.

>> BECAUSE, I THINK THE SYSTEM HAS A POLICY THAT EVERY SCHOOL HAS TO DO A TAG EDUCATION, ONCE IN THE FALL.

AND EVERY SCHOOL DOES IT ACROSS, THEY WILL DO IT THIS DAY AND RAMSEY WILL DO IT ANOTHER DAY, EVERY SCHOOL HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO DO IT WITH THEIR TAG TEACHER OR ADMINISTRATOR.

AND I THINK MY OBSERVATION IS THOSE ARE HIT OR MISS. SOME ARE VERY EFFECTIVE AND SOME ARE NOT.

THAT MAYBE SOMETHING THAT WE CAN RECOMMEND AS A SUBCOMMITTEE TO THE COMMITTEE IS THAT CAN WE FORMALIZE THAT SOMEHOW.

IS THAT SOMETHING THAT THE SCHOOLS CAN DO TO HAVE A STANDARD TAG DISCUSSION WITH THE CENTRAL DOES IT BY INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS.

I DON'T KNOW HOW PRACTICAL THAT IS BUT THAT'S SOMETHING WE COULD TALK ABOUT.

>> THAT SOUNDS GOOD.

>> AWESOME.

>> I THINK SHARING OUR IDEAS BEFORE THE MEETING, I THINK THAT'S OKAY.

WE COULD EMAIL EACH OTHER, RIGHT, OR IS IT BECAUSE WE'RE EMAILING IDEAS, THAT'S GOT TO BE PUBLIC.

>> I THINK A GOOGLE DOC, ONE TO ONE.

>> I THINK I HAVE TO GET BACK TO YOU ON THAT, BECAUSE I THINK WE HAVE SOME ISSUES WITH THE GOOGLE DOC.

SO LET ME GET BACK TO YOU.

>> JULIA AND I WERE TALKING ABOUT IT LAST TIME AND THERE WERE JUST TWO OF US, BUT SINCE THERE ARE THREE OF US ON THE COMMITTEE, THAT MAY CROSS THE LINE.

SO WE'LL WAIT FOR SUSAN TO GET BACK TO US.

>> SO WE DECIDED TWO MORE MEETINGS.

>> YEAH, THE QUESTION, I THINK, LAURA, YOU SAID WE REALLY DON'T HAVE TIME DURING OUR TAG ACPS MEETINGS, WE'LL HAVE TO DO IT OURSELVES.

>> YEAH, I THINK YOU GUYS NEED A SOLID 45-60 MINUTES, SO WHEN I SAT DOWN AND TRIED TO FIGURE IT OUT, I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT A BETTER SOLUTION.

>> SO, HOW WE WORK THIS IS THE THREE OF US CAN PICK A DATE AND WE ASK SUSAN TO POST IT AND THAT BECOMES A ZOOM MEETING.

>> IF YOU TEND ME THE TIME I'LL POST WHEN PEOPLE ARE WANTING TO DO A MEETING.

>> ARE THERE GOOD DAYS OF THE WEEK THAT ARE GOOD FOR THAT, OR IS EVERYBODY'S SCHEDULE PRETTY CRAZY.

>> I CAN MAKE ANY DAY WORK AS LONG AS I HAVE NOTICE.

MONDAYS ARE NOT GREAT, GENERALLY, EVEN ON DAYS WHEN WE DON'T HAVE COMMITTEE MEETINGS.

>> THE 7:00 SLOT, IS THAT A GOOD ONE OR IS THAT JUST TERRIBLE WITH DINNER AND STUFF.

>> I MEAN, 8:00 WOULD BE BETTER FOR ME, BUT LIKE I SAID, I CAN MAKE IT WORK.

>> 8:00 IS GOOD FOR ME.

ZION, IS 8:00 P.M.

OKAY WITH YOU?

>> I'M FINE WITH IT.

>> OKAY.

I'LL SEND BACK TO LAURA, 8:00 P.M.

I'LL PICK, NOT A FRIDAY NIGHT BUT MAYBE A TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, OR SOMETHING.

AND I'LL PUT DATES IN THERE AND IF THEY DON'T WORK WE CAN MOVE THEM AROUND.

>> SOUNDS GOOD.

>> I THINK, NEXT WE CAN PROBABLY DO THIS IN SIX WEEKS, I DON'T THINK WE NEED TO FATE FOREVER, I THINK TWO WEEKS OUR FIRST MEETING AND TWO WEEKS AFTER THAT.

>> I WOULD JUST SAY THAT NOT ACPS'S SPRING BREAK BUT THE WEEK BEFORE ACPS SPRING BREAK.

>> WE WON'T DO IT DURING ANYBODY'S SPRING BREAK.

>> AND THE ONLY QUESTION, I JUST DON'T KNOW IS WHICH OF THE STAFF PEOPLE SHOULD PARTICIPATE.

I THINK THE COMMUNICATIONS PART, I THINK ZION IS RIGHT ON IT.

HOW CAN WE LEVERAGE WHAT ACPS IS ALREADY ON.

I DON'T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION OF WHOSE THE COMMUNICATIONS PERSON OR IS THERE ONE.

>> WELL, I HEARD THERE WAS A NEW DIRECTOR, I THINK.

>> WE HAVE A NEW COMMUNICATIONS PERSON AND WE ALSO IN JULY GOT A NEW PERSON IN CHARGE OF COMMUNICATIONS AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH TYPE THING.

>> I THINK THOSE PEOPLE WOULD BE USEFUL TO HAVE IN OUR MEETING.

>> I COULD HOOK YOU UP WITH THEM AND AT LEAST GET YOU CONTACT INFORMATION FOR

[01:05:03]

THEM.

>> AND THEN, I THINK, TIANNA, HAVING THE TAG DIRECTOR WHOEVER THAT IS IS USEFUL TO HAVE BECAUSE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT TESTING AND THAT KIND OF THING SO HAVING HER BE THERE WOULD BE USEFUL.

>> OKAY.

JUST REALLY QUICK.

>> DID YOU SAY TIANNA OR MEGHAN?

>> I DON'T KNOW WHO MEGHAN IS.

>> WHO IS ALSO HERE.

SHE'S THE NEW DIRECTOR OF ADVANCED ACADEMICS, DID I GET THAT RIGHT?

>> YEAH.

>> YEAH.

OKAY.

>> OKAY.

I'M ON IT NOW, SHE WOULD BE GOOD.

>> DO YOU WANT TO DO THE INTRODUCTION NOW SINCE MARK BROUGHT IT UP.

>> I DID TELL THE COMMITTEE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MEETING.

I THOUGHT WHEN WE ALL GET TOGETHER, WE COULD DO IT.

BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF EVERY COMMITTEE MEMBER IS ON RIGHT NOW.

>> OKAY.

ONE THING I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY AND WE CAN WRAP UP, IS JUST TO KEEP IN MIND, IT WAS REALLY HARD TO BREAK THESE INTO SUBCOMMITTEES, BUT THERE IS A SUBCOMMITTEE THAT'S DEALING JUST WITH THE IDENTIFICATION AND TESTING, BUT I LIKE KIND OF, MARK, WHAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT OF TAKING LIKE, REALLY IT WOULD JUST BE JONATHAN WHERE THERE'S OVERLAP.

BUT LIKE WHEN HE WAS TALKING ABOUT THE ABILITY GROUPS, THAT WOULD BE A GOOD THING TO TAKE FROM HIS PRESENTATION BECAUSE WE DON'T DO IT NOW, IT'S NOT SPECIFICALLY IN THE TESTING OR IDENTIFICATION PROCESS THAT WE DO NOW.

AND SO, IF IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS INTERESTING OR IF WE DECIDE TO THROW IT OUT AND NOT MENTION IT, THAT'S FINE, BUT IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THAT IN MIND.

I MEAN, GO AHEAD AND WRITE IT, BUT I GUESS MY POINT IS SOMEHOW WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO MESH THIS THING TOGETHER JUST BE AWARE OF WHAT THE OTHER COMMITTEES ARE REPORTING ON BEFORE YOU GO IN DEPTH ON ONE THING.

>> HE SAID LIKE, HE COULD TALK A LOT ABOUT THAT, BUT THAT WASN'T REALLY WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT.

I TOOK AWAY FROM HIS TALK, AND I JUST FOUND HIS TALK TO BE REALLY WONDERFUL, WHICH I'VE SAID BEFORE, BUT THAT BOTH THIS SORT OF ABILITY GROUPING, BUT ALSO HIS REALLY STRONG EMPHASIS ON EXCELLENT CURRICULUM.

AND THAT STRONG CURRICULUM ACROSS THE BOARD IS SO CRITICAL, YOU CAN'T HAVE EITHER SEPARATELY AND HAVE AN EFFECTIVE PROGRAM BUT THAT STRONG CURRICULUM BENEFITS EVERYONE.

AND THAT WAS MY OVERALL TAKE AWAY.

I GUESS I WASN'T REALLY, OTHER THAN THE ABILITY GROUPING TO IDENTIFY KIDS SO THEY CAN BE EFFECTIVELY PLACED TO GIVE THEM THE CURRICULUM, I DIDN'T SEE HIS TALK AS BEING ALL THAT FOCUSED ON IDENTIFICATION.

DO YOU THINK THAT'S FAIR?

>> YEAH, I DEFINITELY THINK THAT'S FAIR.

I WAS JUST SAYING THERE'S ANOTHER SUBCOMMITTEE THAT'S REALLY LOOKING AT IDENTIFICATION AND TESTING.

>> YEAH.

>> SO, I THINK SUMMARIZING THAT POINT.

LIKE IF IT COMES UP, THAT'S FINE, BUT THERE'S ANOTHER GROUP THAT'S THE K-12 ROAD MAP AND THEY ACTUALLY WILL TALK MORE ABOUT CURRICULUM AND DIFFERENTIATE.

IT'S HARD.

I WENT ROUND AND ROUND IN MY HEAD.

WE'LL JUST SEE WHAT HAPPENS AND WE'LL MAKE IT WORK.

>> SOUNDS GOOD.

ALL RIGHT.

[Subcommittee K-12 Roadmap]

>> K-12 ROAD MAP, I THINK WE'RE UP.

NICK? COUPLE OF MINUTES EARLY.

>> NICK, ARE YOU THERE?

>> YEP, I'M HERE.

>> IT'S ALL YOUR'S.

>> OKAY.

I KNOW, WE GOT HERE, CATHY HAD SEEN A COUPLE OF GOOD ARTICLES ON CURRICULUM AND IMPROVED RIGOR OF LEARNING AND IT WAS REALLY TRYING TO SIT DOWN AND LOOK AT

[01:10:04]

EVERYTHING THAT'S COMING THROUGH, HOW DO YOU GET FROM K-12 AND I GUESS, ONE OF THE THINGS I WANT TO TALK ABOUT TONIGHT, HOW ARE WE DIFFERENTIATING THIS FROM IDENTIFICATION AS IT TRAVELS THROUGH IN THERE? AND, KIND OF WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE LEFT AND RIGHT BOUNDS ON ROAD MAP WITHOUT STRAYING INTO THE OTHER COMMITTEE'S SPACE.

>> RIGHT.

I THINK WHAT I'M THINKING IS IF I START RECEIVING SOME SERVICE AS A KINDERGARTENER OR I TRANSFER INTO THE SYSTEM AS A 6TH GRADE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING MOVING FORWARD, BUT CURRENTLY I'M TAKING AN HONOR'S CLASS AND I'M IDENTIFIED SO THEREFORE I'M IN A CLUSTER WITHIN MY HONOR'S CLASS AND OR, I COME IN AS YOU KNOW, A 9TH GRADER AT THE NEW ALEXANDRIA HIGH SCHOOL AND I'M TAKING AP CLASSES, I THINK WHAT THE K-12 ROAD MAP, IT SHOULD BE THAT IT'S VERY OBVIOUS FOR WHATEVER YOUR ENTRY POINT IS NOW HOW YOU ENTERED BUT ONCE YOU'VE ENTERED ONE OF THESE ROADS INTO WHAT IS NOW ALL FRAMED UNDER ADVANCED ACADEMICS, WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THE SYSTEM.

YOU KNOW, WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE, BECAUSE I THINK RIGHT NOW, IT CAN BE KIND OF DISJOINTED, LIKE WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS, AND EVEN ON THIS COMMITTEE FOR A LONG TIME WE TALKED ABOUT, OKAY, HERE IS WHAT, WE USED TO SUBREPORT BASED ON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MIDDLE SCHOOL, HIGH SCHOOL, AND WE WOULD HAVE THESE OPPORTUNITIES WHERE YOU MIGHT HAVE SERVICES FOR A YEAR OR TWO AND THEN IT SORT OF FELT LIKE YOU WERE DEALING WITH A WHOLE NEW GROUP OF PEOPLE.

MY IMPRESSION FOR K-12 ROAD MAP WAS MORE REICH PAINTING A PICTURE OF WHAT YOUR PATHWAYS COULD BE NO MATTER WHEN YOU COME INTO THE PROGRAM.

AND I THINK, YOU KNOW, A PIECE OF THAT IS ALSO AND KATHLEEN FELT VERY STRONGLY ABOUT THIS AND HAS A BACKGROUND ON THIS AND I THINK WE ALL ALSO AGREE ON THIS IS WE HAVE TO HAVE A MORE RIGOROUS CURRICULUM ACROSS THE BOARD.

K-12 ROAD MAP, YOU KNOW, SOME OF THE THINGS WE COULD LOOK AT ARE YOU KNOW, ARE WE PROVIDING MORE WHAT ARE WE DOING TO BETTER ON-RAMP STUDENTS IN SCIENCE SO THAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF TAKING AP SCIENCE CLASSES IN HIGH SCHOOL.

HOW ARE WE DOING THAT IN MIDDLE SCHOOL IS THERE AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A RAMP FOR THAT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

FOR THE MOST PART AS WE ALL KNOW, WE DON'T HAVE SUBJECT SPECIFIC PULL OUT FOR SCIENCE IN ELEMENTARY.

TY THINK THAT'S WHAT I UNDERSTOOD WE WERE LOOKING AT FOR K-12 ROAD MAP.

DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?

>> IT DOES, I WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE WERE ON THE SAME PAGE BECAUSE WE TALKED ABOUT THE ROAD MAP AND THE 2025 MASTER PLAN OVERALL HAD A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT NUANCE.

THE OTHER THING I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT AND MAKE SURE YOU AND I ARE ON THE SAME PAGE AS WE MOVE FORWARD.

AND EVERYONE ELSE IN THE COMMITTEE TOO.

LOOKING AT THAT TAG PATHWAY COMING THROUGH AND SAYING, OKAY.

IF YOU'RE HERE, YOU COULD DO THAT, AND HOW THAT MAP GOES.

BUT ALSO WHAT ROAD BLOCKS THAT PRESENTS TO STUDENTS THAT AREN'T TAG IDENTIFIED AS THEY COME THROUGH AND PUT THOSE CUTOFF POINTS AN ELIMINATIONS ARE AND SEE IF THERE'S ANYTHING WE CAN LOOK AT FROM AN EQUITY STAND POINT TO SAY HEY, THIS IS THE PATHWAY FOR A TAG STUDENT BUT HERE ARE THE ENTRY POINTS, OR IF YOU CHOOSE THIS PATH, YOU'RE GOING TO BE BLOCKED FROM THESE OTHER DECISION POINTS HERE AND THERE.

BECAUSE I'M CURIOUS TO SEE WHAT OPPORTUNITIES IT OPENS AND/OR CLOSES DEPENDING ON YOUR PERSPECTIVE AND BEING ABLE TO LAY OUT, REALLY AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL TOWARDS THE END OF THAT TO SAY, HEY, IF YOU HAVEN'T TAKEN, YOU KNOW, APCALC, YOU

[01:15:06]

CAN'T COMPLETE THIS PATHWAY, THIS BECOMES CUT OFF FOR YOU, JUST THOSE KINDS OF DIFFERENT BROACHES AND CHOICES AND WHERE THEY POP IN.

SO, DOES THAT MAKE SENSE FROM THAT STAND POINT, LAURA?

>> YEAH.

>> KATHLEEN, KAITLIN, AND EVERYONE ELSE, IS THAT WHAT YOU GUYS WERE THINKING AS WE WERE LOOKING AT THAT?

>> YEAH, I MEAN, I THINK THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS AND THE IDENTIFICATION COMMITTEE IS THIS IS THE ININSTRUCTIONAL CONTENT.

AND WHAT'S THE IDEAL FOR A STUDENT, K-12, NO MATTER WHAT POINT WE COME IN.

SOMETHING THAT WE HAVEN'T TALKED ABOUT THIS YEAR BUT OUR STUDENTS HAVING AN EQUITABLE EXPERIENCE NO MATTER WHICH OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS OR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS THEY'RE AT.

RIGHT, BECAUSE IT'S ABOUT EQUITY OF EXPERIENCE K-12, AND ALSO NO MATTER WHICH CLASSROOM YOU'RE IN OR WHAT SCHOOL YOU'RE AT.

>> I THINK EQUITY PER CLASSROOM IS GOING TO BE HARDER FROM A ROAD MAP STAND POINT.

JUST BECAUSE OF THE INDIVIDUALIZATION OF THE SCHOOLS AND SOME OF THE IMBALANCES THAT WE'VE SEEN TRADITIONALLY, MAKING SURE COURSE OFFERINGS ARE THERE.

I'M REALLY P CURIOUS AS WE ESTABLISH THIS ROAD MAP, WE IDENTIFY OTHER OPTIMUM POINTS TO SHIFT SCREENS TO, BY IDENTIFYING HERE, YOU CUT THIS OFF OR YOU DON'T PROVIDE THIS WHERE AS IF WE MOVED IT FORWARD OR LATER OR ANY OF THOSE TYPES OF THINGS, IT GIVES US A BETTER PERSPECTIVE OF WHERE THE PROGRAM IS FOCUSED AND WHERE IT'S NOT FOCUSED.

IT DOES SEEM TO BE THE OFFERINGS AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LEVEL ARE MUCH MORE RAILROADED THAN THE OFFERINGS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL, SO FAR.

SO, I THINK IT WOULD BE A FUN MAP TO DRAW.

>> AGREED.

>> SO, WITH THAT, I ALSO LOOK FORWARD TO THE SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING RULES SO WE COULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET EVERYBODY TOGETHER AND FOCUS DOWN ON THIS AND HOW WE COULD SHARE AND WHEN.

>> SO, IF YOU GUY THE WANT TO TALK ABOUT, AND IT'S FINE THAT WE HAVE.

AND I'M SORRY THAT, I JUST COULD NOT FIG OUT ANOTHER WAY TO DO THIS, BUT I THINK YOU GUYS HAVE TO HAVE AN HOUR-LONG MEETING AT SOME POINT AND IT WILL BE ON ZOOM.

AND SO IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT WHEN, LIKE ARE EVENINGS BEST, JUST FILL OUT THIS FORM AND I'LL COMPILE THIS AND GIVE IT TO SUSAN SO WE COULD GET A MEET CAN POSTED AND THE TIME CAN BE HELD AND YOU CAN TALK ABOUT AND WE'VE GOT SOME TIME, I THINK.

WE'VE GOT A LITTLE TIME NOW, WE COULD TALK ABOUT LIKE HOW YOU WANT TO ORGANIZE.

LIKE, NICK, IF YOU WERE THINKING YOU WANTED TO DO AN OUTLINE OR IF YOU WANT TO DIVVY UP SOME OF IT AS A FIRST DRAFT NOW OR IF YOU WANT ANOTHER STAFF MEMBER, OR IF YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING TO WANT A STAFF MEMBER TO JOIN THAT PARTICULAR MEETING WHO THAT MIGHT BE.

THAT TYPE OF THING.

THAT'S A LOT TO THINK ABOUT.

>> WELL, WE TACKLE THEM ONE AT A TIME.

THE FIRST THING IS FIRST, A GOOD TIME FOR US TO MEET.

>> YEAH.

>> WELL, WE'RE NOT ALL HERE, WE'RE A FOUR-PERSON COMMITTEE.

>> I'M GOING TO GET, I THINK HE PROBABLY NEEDS TO MEET IN THE EVENINGS.

I THINK YOU ALL DO, ACTUALLY, WHO ARE WE KIDDING.

>> IT SEEMS LIKE WE GOT A TUESDAY COMMITMENT ALREADY.

WHAT ABOUT A THURSDAY EVENING? WOULD THAT WORK FOR Y'ALL?

>> AS A FIRST THING TO PARSE OUT?

>> NO, I HAVE A WORK COMMITMENT ON THURSDAY EVENINGS.

>> OKAY.

WEDNESDAY?

>> WEDNESDAYS ARE OKAY FOR ME.

EMILY?

>> WEDNESDAY'S FINE FOR ME TOO.

ARE YOU ABLE TO HEAR ME?

>> YEAH.

[01:20:03]

>> SO, I'M UP FOR WEDNESDAY.

LAURA, IF YOU GOT A STAFF MEMBER YOU WOULD RECOMMEND FROM OUR DEALINGS FROM CENTRAL OFFICE, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

>> PROBABLY DR. MANN BECAUSE WE'VE HEARD RUMBLINGS OF CHANGES FOR ESPECIALLY THE MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOL PIPELINE AND ALL THE STUFF GOING ON WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL, THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL.

PROJECTS.

I THINK HE HAS MORE.

HERE HE IS.

>> I'M HERE, I WAS GOING TO MESS WITH NICK, BUT I WON'T TONIGHT ON A MONDAY NIGHT.

BUT, ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THIS WEDNESDAY OR WHICH WEDNESDAY ARE WE?

>> MY GUESS IS NEXT WEDNESDAY.

BECAUSE IT WILL HAVE TO BE AN ANNOUNCED MEETING JUST BECAUSE OF THE SIZE OF PEOPLE THAT WE'VE GOT.

THE 17TH >> YEP.

>> AND WHAT TIME DID WE SAY.

>> I DON'T THINK WE HAD YET, BUT I WOULD OFFER 7:00 OR 8:00, ROUGHLY THE SAME TIME AS THIS.

>> THAT'S FINE FOR ME, EITHER ONE.

>> YOU DO HAVE TO WEAR GREEN BECAUSE IT'S THE 17TH.

>> IT'S TRUE.

THAT WORKS FOR ME.

>> OKAY.

SUSAN, CAN YOU SET THAT UP FOR US?

>> WE'LL SEND YOU AN EMAIL TO GET THAT OVER.

>> THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL.

.

IF I HAVE THEM ALL I CAN GO THROUGH ALL OF THEM AT ONCE.

AND ONE WAY WE COULD DOUBLE UP IF WE KNOW YOUR MEETING'S AN HOUR IS PUT ONE AT 7:00 AND ONE AT 8:00.

>> I'M WONDERING TOO, IN TERMS OF, I DON'T KNOW IF WE WANT TO INVITE MULTIPLE PEOPLE IN THE MEETING BUT IF WE WERE TRYING TO COVER YOUNG SCHOLARS TOO.

I'M WONDERING IF WE SHOULD INVITE TIANNA AS WELL, SOMEONE THAT HAS THE OVERALL VIEW OF K-12 SPECIFIC TO YOUNG SCHOLARS.

>> YEAH, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

>> YEAH.

>> JUST MAKE SURE, I'M WRITING IT DOWN, BUT CAN YOU SUBMIT IT ON THIS THING TO ME.

>> YEP.

>> TOO.

>> OKAY.

>> WE COULD DO THAT.

WHAT FORMAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR, LAURA.

WHEN I HEAR ROAD MAP, VERY IT SELDOM TO I THINK PARAGRAPH TIMES NEW ROMAN STYLE.

>> WELL, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? LIKE A DIAGRAM?

>> THE ENGINEER IN ME WANTS TO GET AN ARCHITECTULE VIEW, I THINK THE FRIENDLY TERM IS ALMOST LIKE AN ANNOTATED FLOW CHART, FOR AN ENGLISH PATHWAY, THIS IS OW THAT WOULD WORK OUT.

THIS IS HOW YOU WOULD GET FROM KINDERGARTEN TO 12TH GRADE.

IS THAT OKAY? DOES THAT HURT YOUR BRAIN IN TERMS OF AN OUTPUT.

>> NO, I LOVE LOOKING AT THEM I JUST DON'T WANT TO CREATE IT MYSELF.

IF YOU GUYS WANT TO PRESENT IT THAT WAY, IT'S FINE.

IT'S OUR REPORT, WE CAN REPORT IT IN ANY WAY, I THINK THERE SHOULD BE, I MEAN, I KNOW, I IMAGINE THAT COME OF THE POINTS THAT YOU GUYS ARE PASSIONATE BILLION THAT YOU WANT TO GET ACROSS IS SORT OF THE ELEVATION OF THE CURRICULUM ACROSS THE BOARD.

I KNOW THAT'S BEEN A BIG PIECE.

OBVIOUSLY, THAT'S GOING TO TAKE SOME WRITTEN EXPLANATION TO SUPPORT.

I THINK IT'S A COMBINATION.

AND IF THE DIAGRAM OR FLOW CHART GETS TO UNWIELD IT COULD BE REWRITTEN.

WE NEED TO KEEP IN MIND OUR AUDIENCE IS THE SCHOOL BOARD.

I KNOW THAT THEY WILL READ THIS, WE JUST DON'T WANT TO TO BE TOO OVERWHELMING.

WE WANT TO HIT THE HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT.

I THINK ONE OF THE MAIN POINTS OF THIS IS WHY DON'T WE LOOK AT THE SERVICE AS A

[01:25:07]

K-12.

INSTEAD OF LOOKING AT SO MANY PROGRAMS. AND SO, IF WE LOOK AT IT MORE WHOLELISTICLY.

THAT'S WHAT WE NEED.

>> KATHLEEN, DID YOU HAVE SOMETHING YOU WERE PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN TACKLING ON THE TOPIC TO BRING IN NEXT WEEK IF EVERYBODY TRIES TO BRING IN SOME PART OF IDEAL OR RESEARCH.

>> HERE'S WHAT I'LL DO, I'LL PULL TOGETHER THE IMPORTANCE OF STARTING EVERYBODY WITH A HIGH QUALITY CURRICULUM, SO TAG COULD BE THE DIFFERENTIATING FOR.

WHY DON'T I TRY TO PULL TOGETHER A PARAGRAPH ON THAT WITH CITATIONS TO SHARE OUT WHEN WE MEET NEXT WEEK.

>> OKAY.

SOUNDS GOOD.

EMILY, DID YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS OR THOUGHTS OF HOW YOU WANTED TO TACKLE IT.

>> MOST OF WHAT I KNOW IS MUCH MORE ON THE LIKE ELEMENTARY SIDE.

WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN TO MIDDLE SCHOOL YET, SO I CAN START DRAFTS IN PROCESS FORM IF YOU WANT SOME OF THE ENTRY POINTS THAT I KNOW AND WE COULD CONTINUE TO ADD TO IT.

SO I CAN COVER THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PIECE OF IT, I CAN TAKE STUFF FROM THE PRESENTATION AND MAP OUT YOUNG SCHOLARS, AND SO, I COULD START WITH THOSE TWO THINGS TO BRING FOR NEXT WEEK.

BUT WE'LL NEED HELP FILLING IN GAPS, DEFINITELY.

BUT I FEEL LIKE I DON'T KNOW THE MIDDLE TO HIGH AS WELL BECAUSE WE'RE NOT AT THAT POINT YET.

>> OKAY.

I'LL TRY AND START MAPPING OUT THE MIDDLE TO HIGH SCHOOL IN THERE AND WE COULD WORK ON MARRYING UP THE HAND OVER BETWEEN 5TH AND 6TH GRADE.

>> I'M JUST WANTING TO MAKE SURE I'M UNDERSTANDING, NICK, AS FAR AS MAPPING OUT.

SO ARE YOU SAYING IF YOU'RE TAG IDENTIFIED IN MATH, PER SE, ARE YOU SAYING WHAT YOUR OPTIONS FOR MATH WOULD BE ALL THE WAY THROUGH 12T GRADE?

>> RIGHT.

AND I KNOW YOU GUYS HAVE THE CURRICULUM FLOW CHART AND, I'LL DROP YOU AN EMAIL MAKING SURE I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THAT IS.

AND REALLY WHAT CONVERSATIONS THAT I'VE HAD MORE THAN ONCE WITH YOU, NONETHELESS ON IF YOU END UP IN MATH TAG IN FOURTH GRADE AND EXCELER EIGHTED.

AND WHAT ARE THE OTHER ENTRY POINTS IN THERE AS IT COMES THROUGH.

AND I KNOW YOU GUYS HAVE A PRETTY EXTENSIVE CURRICULUM MATH AND FLOW OF HOW DOES THIS WORK.

IT'S REALLY, THE HOW CAN WE LOOK AND EXAMINE THAT FROM A TAG, YOUNG SCHOLARS AND OTHER PERSPECTIVES AND MAKE SURE THAT WE UNDERSTAND THAT REALLY RIGOROUSLY AND TURN AROUND AND SAY, OKAY WHAT'S THE TAG BOARD RECOMMENDATION SLANT ON IMPROVING QUALITY OF SERVICE, IMPROVING THE MAPPING OR EVEN JUST THE EDUCATION AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE OTHER PARENTS ON THIS IS THE WHAT'S, WHERE'S, AND HOW'S OF HOW THE PROCESS WORKS.

>>> OKAY.

I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU GUYS AREN'T GOING DOWN A RABBIT HOLE THAT'S ALREADY DEVELOPED.

I'M ASKING MY TEAM TO DO WORK THAT'S ALIGNED FROM CHANGES COMING FROM THE STATE AS FAR AS MAPPING AND MAPPING THAT WITH THE HIG SCHOOL PROJECT BECAUSE WE'RE BASING A LOT OF OUR WORK ON THE CAREER TECHNOLOGY AND OTHER CASES AND CAREER CLUSTERS AND HOW IT MAPS ALL THE WAY DOWN THROUGH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

SO, AS LAURA WAS SAYING, AND MAYBE IT'S THE PARAGRAPH OR TWO, SAYING THAT HERE'S WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE AND MAYBE IT'S THE TEAM COMING BACK AND BRINGING THAT TO THIS GROUP SO Y'ALL AREN'T DOING THE WORK OF CURRICULUM

[01:30:01]

SPECIALISTS, MAPPING ALL THAT OUT.

>> ARE YOU GUYS READY TO PRESENT THAT? IS THAT READY?

>> IT'S NOT READY TO PRESENT TODAY, BUT I CAN WALK YOU THROUGH WHERE ARE WE'RE HEADED.

THERE ARE CERTAIN PARTS THAT ARE ALREADY THERE AND AS YOU MENTIONED WITH YOUR MATH EXAMPLE, YOU MAY BE TAG IDENTIFIED IN A GRADE LEVEL AHEAD AS FAR AS WHAT PROGRAMS ARE OPEN TO YOU WHEN YOU GET TO SOON TO BE ALEXANDRIA HIGH IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS, MAYBE.

WHAT WOULD BE OPEN TO YOU, YOU WON'T -- ANY STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY FOR ANY OF OUR PROGRAMS AS FAR AS GW HEALTH SCIENCE, STEM WHEN YOU GET TO THE ACADEMY OF HEALTH SCIENCE AND THOSE THINGS, WHAT WOULD BE DIFFERENT FOR THE STUDENT WOULD BE WHAT MATH COURSE THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE IN 9TH GRADE AND WHERE THEY WOULD GO.

AND THERE ARE OTHER CHANGES THAT MAY CHANGE ALL OF THAT ON IT'S HEAD COMING FROM THE STATE IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS, BUT THAT'S FURTHER DOWN THE LINE.

SO THAT'S WHY I DON'T WANT THE GROUP TO BEAT DOWN AND WORK BUT ALSO MAKE A RECOMMENDATION AND ASK STAFF TO COME BACK AND GIVE YOU SOME OF THE UPDATES AND WHERE WE'RE HEADED.

>> I THINK WE COULD ALSO PROBABLY ADVOCATE FOR MAKING THAT WORK MORE TRANSPARENT AND DIGESTIBLE BY ALL PARENTS.

I THINK THAT'S AN EQUITY ISSUE, THERE ARE SOME PARENTS THAT UNDERSTAND IF I DON'T PUSH MY KIDS TO GET IN TAG MATH.

WHEN I WAS A FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENT, MY PARENTS DIDN'T KNOW TO ADVOCATE FOR THAT.

I FEEL LIKE I HEAR WHAT YOUR SAYING, WE CAN ASK THE STAFF TO DO STUFF AND ADVOCATE FOR THE WORK OF THE STAFF TO BE SHARED MORE BROADLY WITH PARENTS.

>> I JUST DON'T WANT THE GROUP TO PULL UP THE PROGRAM OF STUDIES AND GO, WAIT, IT'S ALREADY HERE.

I THINK IT WAS SOMEONE MENTIONED, HOW DO WE, AND I KNOW MARK MENTIONED IT, MAKING SURE ALL PARENTS UNDERSTAND HOW THAT ALL WORKS, AND IN MY OLD JOB IN CENTRAL OFFICE, WORK SITTING WITH PARENTS AND GOING THROUGH THE PROGRAM OF STUDIES AND REALLY HELPING THEM UNDERSTAND THAT ANY PROGRAM IS STILL OPEN TO YOU.

IS DIFFERENTIATOR WOULD BE TO YOUR POINT, YOU COULD TAKE CALC BUT THAT WOULDN'T EXCLUDE YOU FROM BEING IN THE STEM SCIENCE PROGRAM.

THAT WOULD BE MY RECOMMENDATION.

JUST SO YOU ALL AREN'T DOWN IN THE WEEDS WHERE WE CAN COME BACK AND GIVE YOU UPDATES.

BUT I THINK IT IS AN ATTACK ON COMMUNICATIONS AND NOT ONE-STOP SHOPPING BUT WITH YOUR NEW COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE SURE THAT GETS OUT THERE.

AND WITH DR. MILNER HOW DO WE HELP EVERYONE UNDERSTAND.

AND HOW DO WE MAKE SURE THAT OUR COUNSELORS UNDERSTAND IT ALL BECAUSE THEY REALLY ARE FOR LACK OF A BETTER TERM, A GATE KEEPER, IF THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND THE PROCESSES AND WHAT IT ALL MEANS, SO THERE ARE MANY LAYERS TO THE COMMUNICATIONS PIECE THAT WE STILL HAVE TO WORK ON.

>> SO, IF WE PIVOT NEXT WEDNESDAY THEN, DR. MANN, WHAT CAN YOU BRING US TO DESCRIBE THE CHANGES COMING TO THE ROAD MAP TO WE COULD BE BETTER ALIGNED TO START TO DO THIS PIVOT AND MAKE THE RECOMMENDATIONS ON, YOU KNOW, IF THESE ARE THE CHANGES THAT ARE COMING AND IF THIS IS WHAT THE STATE SAYS IS GOING TO HAPPEN AND IF YOU THINK THIS IS WHAT THE STATE IS MOVING TOWARDS AND THE CHANGES ARE INEVITABLE COMING OUT OF OUR COVID YEAR HERE, AND WE PIVOT LESS FROM A ROAD MAP AND MORE TO A COMMUNICATION AND HOW TO MAKE THAT ROAD MAP OPEN AND ACCESSIBLE HERE WITH ALL THE CHANGES COMING.

WHAT CAN YOU AND YOUR TEAM BRING NEXT WEEK ON THAT?

>> I THINK IT'S TWO THINGS, ONE CHANGE WOULD BE THE WHOLE TAG ALL TOGETHER.

THAT ONE IS FROM A TAG PERSPECTIVE IS PRETTY RADICAL.

I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD HEAR THAT TOGETHER.

THE OTHER ONE WHAT I CAN WE CAN BRING IS THE MODEL THAT WE'RE GOING TO USE FROM THE

[01:35:17]

CTE WORLD WHERE EVERYTHING'S OUTLINING ON ONE PAGE.

BUT I'M ASKING THE STAFF TO BREAK THAT UP, IF YOU'RE T LIKE EMILY SAID, YOU'RE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TALKING ABOUT AP CLASSES MAY NEED SOMETHING TO HER, BUT HOW DO WE MAKE THIS FOR AN ELEMENTARY PARENT UNDERSTAND.

THE CAREER CLUSTERS, AT SOME POINT EVERYONE'S GOING TO WORK IN ONE OF THE 17 CAREER CLUSTERS, THAT'S WHERE WE'RE TRYING TO HELP ALL THE CURRICULUM AREAS.

IT DOESN'T START WHEN YOU GET THE TC, IT STARTS MUCH SOONER, I THINK WE WOULD ALL AGREE ON THAT.

SO THAT'S WHAT I WOULD BRING TO THE GROUP AND THEN NOT TO STEAL ANY THUNDER, I THINK WE PROBABLY NEED TO ASK FOR SOME TIME TO TALK ABOUT THE PROPOSE IT HAD CHANGES THE STATE'S TALKING ABOUT FOR MATH BEGINNING IN 2025.

>> YEP.

WHICH IS CRAZILY AROUND THE CORNER WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT.

>> I'M JUST CONSCIOUS OF THE TIME.

I WANT TO WRAP UP THIS SUBCOMMITTEE AND LET LEE ANDERIES WE'RE ALL COMING BACK AT 8:55 AND DR. MANN CAN GIVE US AN UPDATE.

WE CAN PICK UP A LITTLE OF THIS WITH THE WHOLE COMMITTEE.

>> DOCTOR, PLEASE BRING THAT NEXT WEEK AND WE'LL PLAN TO START WITH WHAT YOU COULD BRING NEXT WEEK ON THE ROAD MAP OUTSIDE OF THE APRIL PLAN AND MOVE FROM THERE.

>> WORKS FOR ME.

>> AWESOME.

>> THANKS LAURA.

>> ABSOLUTELY, THANKS YOU GUYS.

[Subcommittee Student Voices]

I'LL SEE YOU AT 8:55.

>> LEE, AND REESEY.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS HEARD ANY OF THE OTHER COMMITTEE MEETS, IF YOU DIDN'T THAT'S FINE.

BASICALLY ASSUMING THEY GOT A PAGE OR TWO THAT THEY WRITE UP ON JUST THE VARIOUS TOPICS WE COVERED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

MY IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK IS I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE TO HAVE A STUDENT VOICE FOR EVERY SINGLE THING THAT THE COMMITTEE'S REPORTING ON.

SO, I THINK IF YOU DON'T FEEL CONSTRAINED BY THAT, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR WHAT YOUR IDEAS ARE AND HOW YOU GUYS WANT TO MAKE THAT PART OF THE REPORT WE SUBMIT.

>> YEAH.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO FIRST WITH IDEAS?

>> EITHER WAY.

>> I WAS JUST, I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS FOR AWHILE NOW, AND THERE WAS A SOCIAL MEDIA POST ABOUT TAG OVER THE SUMMER, SO THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT EQUITY AND INCLUSION.

AND I JUST THINK THAT THE RESPONSES TO THAT IN THAT COMMENT SECTION, I DEFINITELY WANT TO GO BACK AND SCREEN SHOT THAT, BUT EVEN THE RESPONSE TOSS THAT IN IN A COMMENT SECTION WAS CLEAR THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAD HORRIBLE EXPERIENCES IN TAG WHEN IT COMES TO INEQUITY AND NOT BEING ININCLUDED.

AND I THINK THAT THE DATA TELLS ONE THING, BUT I LOVE QUALITATIVE RESEARCH AND I THINK HAVING A STUDENT PERSPECTIVE WOULD GREAT FOR IT.

WE CAN CREATE AN ONLINE LINK WHERE WE COULD HAVE SOME PEOPLE TO SUBMIT THINGS.

I THINK IT MIGHT BE TOO TEDIOUS TO HAVE INDIVIDUAL INTERVIEW.

BUT I THINK WE COULD DO SOMETHING WHERE WE COULD HAVE AN ONLINE LINK WHERE WE COULD HAVE STUDENTS SUBMIT THEIR EXPERIENCES.

I GUESS, I'M NOT SURE WHAT YOU'RE THINKING, LEIGH BUT THAT'S GOING ON IN MY BRAIN.

>> I LOVED WHAT YOU WERE SAYING WHEN YOU SPOKE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT AND SOME OF THE COMMENTS THAT VARIOUS STUDENTS HAD SHARED AND THEIR PERSPECTIVES DURING THAT MEETING.

I WAS KIND OF THINKING ABOUT CUSTOMIZING OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS THAT MIGHT FIT

[01:40:07]

INTO THE VIRTUAL LEARNING, IDENTIFICATION AND TESTING GUEST SPEAKER, AND K-12 ROAD MAP SECTIONS.

AND IF WE HAD A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS FOR EACH TOPIC AREA AND COULD GO TO LIKE, I CAN, I KNOW A LOT OF THE ELEMENTARY TEACHERS, AND SO, I COULD SHARE THAT WITH THOSE QUESTIONS WITH ELEMENTARY TOUCHILYERS AND THEY CAN GET A SAMPLE FROM EACH OF THE SCHOOLS ACROSS THE CITY AND MAYBE STACY PAL MER, WE COULD PULL HER IN AND THEY COULD SHARE SIMILAR QUESTIONS GEARED UP FROM ELEMENTARY TO MIDDLE BUT ALONG THE SAME VEIN AND IF YOU COULD PUT YOUR EAR TO THE GROUND AND SELECT PEOPLE THAT YOU KNOW AND SHARE HIGH SCHOOL VOICES OF SIMILAR QUESTIONS THAT ARE BASED IN THOSE, LIKE, IF WE WERE LOOKING FOR, YOU KNOW, AN OPEN-ENDED QUESTION FOR THE VIRTUAL LEARNING SUBCOMMITTEE, MAYBE WHAT CHALLENGES AND SUCCESSES HAVE YOU HAD DURING THE VIRTUAL LEARNING OVER THE LAST YEAR.

SO IT'S OPEN, KIDS CAN SHARE AND WE CAN PROVIDE THE RESPONSES TO THE SUBCOMMITTEES AND THEY MIGHT CHOOSE, WHICH RESPONSES THEY FEEL THEY WANT TO INCLUDE IN THEIR SUBCOMMITTEE REPORT.

WE COULD ALSO PROVIDE A BUNCH OF RESPONSES TO LAURA, ONCE WE CUREAITE THEM AND SHE CAN PUT THEM IN THE REPORT.

I STARTED A GOING DOC AND GIVEN PERMISSION, I CAN SHARE THAT WITH YOU, IF YOU EMAIL ME AT MY TEACHER EMAIL ADDRESS.

>> OKAY.

>> AND I, AM WORKING ON MY AP RESEARCH PAPER SO I'M IN THE MINDSET OF SYNTH SIZING THAT RESEARCH.

IF THERE'S A THEME AND THERE'S A PATTERN THAT WE'RE SEEING THEN THAT MIGHT BE BETTER.

I'M NOT SURE, LIKE IF SOMETHING DOESN'T FIT INTO ONE OF THE SUBCOMMITTEES IF IT'S SOMETHING MAJOR THEN MAYBE WE COULD GO DOWN THAT ROAD.

WOULD WE BE ALLOWED TO REACH OUT TO PEOPLE AND HAVE THEM SHARE, IS THERE PROTOCOL FOR THAT?

>> DR. MANN, I'M TURNING THAT OVER TO YOU.

>> ARE YOU REFERRING TO STUDENTS COMING ON AND SHARING?

>> YEAH, OR JUST HAVING, NOT NECESSARILY COMING ON HERE AND SHARING BUT HAVING THEM, I WOULD PROBABLY SAY HAVING SOMETHING WRITTEN MIGHT BE BETTER THAN VERBAL.

I'M NOT SURE IF THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING WE COULD DO.

>> LIKE US ASKING? DO WE HAVE POWER AS A SUBCOMMITTEE TO CREATE QUESTIONNAIRES THAT WE COULD SUBMIT TO OR THAT WE COULD PUT OUT AND REQUEST PEOPLE TO PROVIDE US WITH FEEDBACK.

>> I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT, I DO KNOW THE PROCESS TO GET SOMETHING THROUGH TO SEND IT OUT, YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH ACCOUNTABILITY AND THAT PART OF IT.

SO, YOU MENTIONED QUALITATIVE RESEARCH, I DON'T KNOW IF THERE ARE SOME OF THE STUDENTS THAT YOU MAY KNOW THAT MAY BE WILLING TO COME TO A SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING AND TALK ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES, THAT MAYBE AN EASIER ROUTE.

I DON'T KNOW, SUSAN IN YOU KNOW SOME OF THE DETAILS.

>> I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY I RECALL IN MY SCHOOL NEWS LETTER THERE WAS SOMETHING THAT THE SPECIAL ED ADVISORY COMMITTEE, THERAPY SOLICITING INFORMATION ON VIRTUAL LEARNING.

SO THEY DID THAT SOMEHOW.

>> I'M NOT SURE WHERE THEY GOT THEIR LIST BUT I DON'T BELIEVE IT WAS SENT OUT THROUGH ACPS.

I'M NOT SURE HOW THEY GOT THAT OUT, BUT I KNOW GETTING SURVEYS OUT TO STUDENTS OFTEN REQUIRES IMPORTANT PERMISSION.

SO IT'S A BIT OF A DIFFICULT PROCESS, BUT I THINK IF YOU REALLY WANTED TO DO IT YOU HAVE TO PLAN TO DO IT AND UNDERSTAND IT MAY TAKE TIM AND IT MAY BE DENIED.

[01:45:03]

>> CONFIRMING WHAT DR. MANN SAID, YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTABILITY.

>> AND THAT CAN'T BE SOMETHING, I GUESS MY QUESTION IS IS THERE A WAY AROUND DOING SOMETHING THAT'S SUPER FORMAL AND PUBLISHED.

MY ONLY QUESTION IS IF WE WANT THE HONEST TRUTH, WE'RE NOT GOING TO GET THAT FROM STUDENTS COMING ONTO A ZOOM SESSION WITH ADULTS THEY DON'T KNOW HAND ESPECIALLY SHARING RACISM AND INEQUITY.

IF WE REACHED OUT TO PEOPLE DIRECTLY, WOULD THEY BE ALLOWED TO HAVE A PUBLIC COMMENT?

>> SO, I THINK THAT THERE'S SORT OF A 2-EDGED SWORD WITH JUST GETTING LIKE, FEEDBACK FROM STUDENTS AND NOT BECAUSE THEY'RE STUDENTS BUT BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT ENDS UP BEING NOT THE KIND OF INFORMATION YOU WANT BUT A LOT OF OTHER STUFF AS WELL.

SO, I THINK I WOULD GO THROUGH ACCOUNTABILITY JUST TO SEE ABOUT HOW YOU COULD EVEN CREATE SOMETHING THAT IF YOU HAD PERMISSION TO POST IT, SAY ON THE TC WILLIAMS, ON, THROUGH CANVAS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, THAT'S INFORMAL, BUT I THINK THERE ARE A LOT OF STEPS TO THAT, SO, I THINK YOU HAVE TOP FIND OUT WHAT THOSE STEPS ARE BEFORE YOU CAN DO THAT.

IT'S A DIFFICULT PROCESS.

REACHING OUT TO STUDENTS AND ALSO THERE'S A LOT OF KEEPING STUDENT INFORMATION NOT NAMES RELATED TO IT, AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO.

>> I'M PRETTY ACCUSTOMED TO CANVAS, I'VE DONE A LOT OVER CANVAS AND I'VE DONE ANONYMOUS SURVEYS AS WELL.

MY QUESTION IS IF WE'RE NOT DIRECTLY QUOTING PEOPLE, LIKE IF WE CREATED AS A A COLLECTION OF RESPONSES BUT WE SYNTH SIZE THEM, THERE ARE NO STUDENTS OR ANYTHING WRITTEN BY NAME.

IS THAT STILL?

>> I THINK IT'S STILL A PROCESS THAT YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE STEPS IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU COULD JUST DO.

>> I DON'T WANT TO STEP ON SUSAN'S TOES, IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU KIND OF HAVE TWO DIFFERENT TRACKS YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT, ONE IS THE SORT OF INDIVIDUAL STUDENT RESEARCH TRACT AND THAT'S YOUR PROJECT WITH YOUR TEACHER AND THEN THERE'S THE WORK FOR THE SUBCOMMITTEE.

IS YOUR PROJECT FOR THE AP RESEARCH, IS THAT ALIGNED WITH THIS PROJECT.

>> NO.

>> OKAY.

BECAUSE I THINK THERE IS A DISTINCTION MAYBE BETWEEN YOUR INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH, PERHAPS, AND WHAT'S THE WORK OF THE COMMITTEE AND THE RESEARCH ETHICS AROUND WHAT YOU COULD DO IN YOUR OWN RESEARCH AND INTERVIEWS YOU'RE CONDUCTING AND THOSE SORTS OF THINGS.

I JUST WANTED TO MAKE A COMMENT IN TERMS OF YOU KNOW WHAT I THINK SOME OF THE BOARD MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN IN TERMS OF OUTCOMES OF WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

A LOT OF THE THEME OF THE CONVERSATION HAS AND I THINK YOU TOUCHED ON THIS, HAS BEEN WHAT ARE SOME OF THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE COULD SEIZE ON IN THE FUTURE AS A RESULT OF THE PANDEMIC.

AND, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU TALK TO STUDENTS, YOU HAVE A WINDOW OF SOME OF THE GOOD THINGS GOING ON RIGHT NOW AND SOME OF THE THINGS THAT MAYBE AREN'T AS GOOD GOING ON RIGHT NOW.

AND I THINK IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HEAR SOME OF THOSE REALLY GOOD STORIES.

AND THIS IS SOMETHING MAYBE I DIDN'T GET AS A RESULT OF THE VIRTUAL LEARNING AND SHARING THOSE STORIES WOULD BE REALLY, I THINK POWERFUL AND INTERESTING AND USEFUL FOR LONG-TERM PLANNING FOR THE DIVISION.

BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF WE HAVE ALL THOSE STORIES, IT WOULD PROBABLY HELP THE PRINCIPALS IN TERMS OF THEIR PLANNING AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

OBVIOUSLY, THERE ARE VERY RAW STORIES ABOUT INEQUITIES EXPERIENCED TOO THAT WOULD BE POWERFUL.

IF THERE WAS A WAY TO FOLLOW THE RULES AND FILTER THOSE THAT WOULD BE GREAT AS WELL.

AND WE JUST HAD A BIG PRESENTATION FROM CLINT PAGE FOR THE KPI'S AND THE STRATEGIC PLAN.

WHILE THAT PROCESS MAY BE A BIT BURDENSOME IF WE COULD GET YOU HELP, THAT WOULD BE

[01:50:02]

GREAT BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE ME PAGE NEED TO SEE THAT DATE.

SO HOPEFULLY, WE COULD FIND A WAY FOR YOU TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS PROJECT IN A WAY THAT'S NOT UNDUALLY BURDENSOME BUT ALLOWS YOU TO GO THROUGH THE PROPER CHANNEL BECAUSE THIS COULD BE USEFUL FOR PLANNING, THE BOARD, AND ALL THE STAFF AND THE LARGER COMMUNITY.

>> THAT MEANS FOR US, IS THAT IF WE TAKE A LOOK AT QUESTIONS AND FORWARD A LIST OF QUESTIONS TO CLINT PAGE ASKING HIM WHAT ARE THE STEPS, RULES FOR COLLECTING INFORMATION WE WOULDN'T WANT ANY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION ABOUT THE STUDENTS THEMSELVES, OTHER THAN KIND OF HIGH SCHOOL MIDDLE SCHOOL ELEMENTARY I THINK, YOU KNOW IT'S WORTH A SHOT TO SEE WHAT WE CAN GATHER.

ESPECIALLY RELATED TO THE VIRTUAL LEARNING.

I WAS TRYING TO COME UP WITH QUESTIONS SAMPLE QUESTIONS FOR THE IDENTIFICATION AND TESTING, SUBCOMMITTEE, AND RECOMMENDATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE, AND IT JUST DIDN'T SEEM LIKE THOSE WHO SUBCOMMITTEES IT WOULD BE HARD TO GET STUDENT INPUT ON THOSE TWO.

BUT, THE K-12 ROAD MAP AND THE VIRTUAL LEARNING, I HAD A FEW OF THEM.

>> I DEFINITELY THINK THERE'S A LOT TO COVER IN TERMS OF EQUITY AND INCLUSION.

I THINK YOU TALKED ABOUT, IS THAT AN UMBRELLA, IS THERE A SPECIFIC SUBCOMMITTEE IN THAT?

>> NO, BECAUSE IT'S IN EVERY COMMITTEE.

YOU COULD HIT IT.

JUST HIT IT.

>> SO WE COULD PROBABLY FIGURE THAT OUT LATER.

BUT IN TERMS OF TIMELINE FOR THIS, REMIND ME WHEN THE DEADLINE IS.

>> YEAH, AND I THINK MOST OF THE COMMITTEE AND I APOLOGIZE, I WAS SO THINKING THROUGH OTHER PARTS OF THIS, I DIDN'T GET TO THAT.

I THINK IDEALLY, I CAN SEE HOW THE COMMITTEE ARE GOING OVER THE NEXT MONTH, I THINK OUR APRIL MEETING WILL BE PRETTY PACKED AND SO I DON'T KNOW THAT I MEAN, LIKE, I MIGHT WANT TO SEE WHERE EACH COMMITTEE IS IN A MONTH, BUT I'M THINKING HAVING SOMETHING THAT'S IN PRETTY GOOD DRAFT MAYBE FOR THE MAY MEETING AND THAT WE WOULD SHARE HOPEFULLY SHARE THAT WITH THE REST OF THE COMMITTEE.

LIKE IT WOULD BE AN ATTACHMENT, FOR EXAMPLE.

AND THEN IN THE MAY MEETING, IF PEOPLE HAD COMMENTS, THEY COULD ADD THEM, THE SUBCOMMITTEE IT IS COULD COMBI BACK AND HOPEFULLY WE COULD TRY TO FINALIZE SOMETHING FOR JUNE.

THAT TIMEFRAME MIGHT BE REASONABLE.

SO, YEAH, I THINK THAT'S WHAT MAKES THE MOST SENSE.

>> AND, DOES -- I'M NOT SURE IF SUSAN KNOWS THIS, BUT IN TERMS OF TIMELINE FOR REACHING OUT TO THE ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICE IS THAT SOMETHING WE SHOULD DO IN THE NEXT WEEK AND-A-HALF OR SO.

>> I THINK I WOULD REACH OUT SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.

THERE MAYBE SOMEONE THERE, NOT NECESSARILY JUST CLINT, HE HAS A TEAM WHO COULD GUIDE YOU AND GIVE YOU SORT OF ALTERNATIVES THAT IF YOU WERE TO TRY TO DO A STUDENT SURVEY OF ALL TAG STUDENTS, THAT'S A DIFFERENT PROCESS, THAN, CAN YOU HELP ME COME UP WITH QUESTIONS TO REACH OUT TO THE STUDENTS I KNOW.

YOU KNOW, SO, THERE'S DIFFERENT LEVELS OF SURVEYING AND DEPENDING, BUT, I'LL SAY THAT ACPS WOULD BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT ACCEPTING DATA THAT THEY DON'T HAVE INPUT INTO HOW IT WAS OBTAINED.

SO, BUT THEY COULD DEFINITELY HELP YOU GET GUIDANCE.

AND I'LL TELL YOU I BELIEVE WITH THE CX SURVEY THAT THEY DID, THEY CREATED THEIR OWN SURVEY AND PUT IT OUT THERE.

AND HOW THEY CONTACTED PEOPLE, I'M NOT SURE.

BUT I MEAN, THAT IS.

>> I'LL FOLLOW UP WITH CINDY, THE HEAD OF T I'LL ASK HER.

LET ME DO THAT AND GET BACK TO YOU GUYS.

>> SO, I'LL LET YOU GUYS KNOW ABOUT THAT.

>> OKAY.

OKAY.

THANKS YOU GUYS.

I WANT TO TURN IT OVER TO DR. MANN IF YOU COULD PROVIDE US WITH YOUR STAFF

I'M JUST CURIOUS NOW THAT THERE ARE STUDENTS COMING BACK INTO THE BUILDINGS, NOT ALL, IS THERE ANY TESTING IT'S POTENTIALLY GOING ON SPECIFICALLY FOR THE GIFTED TESTING? LIKE I DIDN'T KNOW IF THERE WERE ANY STRAGGLERS OF PEOPLE THAT MAYBE HAD BEEN REFERRED TO A PROGRAM BUT NEEDED A STANDARDIZED TEST AND THAT WAS HELD OFF, THAT'S A BROAD STROKE BUT JUST CURIOUS, WILL ANY OF THAT TESTING GOING ON?

>> BROADLY? AS FAR AS WHAT WE USED TO DO LIKE IN THE FALL, NO.

I NEED TO CHECK WITH TIANNA, WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS LAST WEEK AS FAR AS SOME AS YOU CALLED IT STRAGGLERS, IF STUDENTS MAKE IT THROUGH THE PORTFOLIO PROCESS THAT TESTING WILL HAPPEN.

>> THIS YEAR?

>> THIS YEAR, BUT IN THE SUMMER.

>> OKAY.

IN THE SUMMER.

ALL RIGHT.

DID ANYBODY ELSE HAVE ANY QUICK QUESTIONS FOR DR. MANN BEFORE WE GO TO THE MINUTES.

SHED A PROBLEM WITH HER.

SUSAN, CAN THEY RAISE THEIR HAND TO APPROVE THE MINUTES?

[02:00:29]

>> IF I CAN'T, LINDSEY HAD TROUBLE WITH HER MIC EARLIER.

>> YEAH, I GUESS SO.

WE COULD TRY THAT CAN YOU HEAR ME.

>> SHE'S GIVING US A THUMB'S UP.

DOES THAT COUNT?

>> YES, WE'LL LET IT COUNT FOR THIS TIME.
