>> GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

[Call the Work Session to Order]

[00:00:03]

WELCOME TO OUR WORK SESSION.

WE ARE BEGINNING THIS MEETING AT 6:02 P.M.

THIS WORK SESSION IS OUR OPPORTUNITY TO ASK ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS

[1. The High School Project: Site Specific Educational Specifications]

REGARDING THE EDUCATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS AND HEAR FROM OUR ACPS TEAM REGARDING THAT MATTER.

WITH THAT SAID, I WILL TURN IT OVER TO DR. HUTCHINGS.

>> THANK YOU, MADAM CHAIR.

AND WE ARE EXCITED TO FINALLY HAVE THIS DISCUSSION TO KEEP MOVING WITH THIS HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT.

I MEAN, I JUST WANT TO GIVE A SHOUTOUT TO OUR TEAM IN SPITE OF THIS GLOBAL PANDEMIC AND ALL OF THE OTHER THINGS WE ARE WORKING TOWARDS, WE ARE STILL WORKING THROUGH OUR HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT.

AS WELL AS DOUGLAS MCARTHUR.

I WANT TO TURN THINGS OVER TO DR. MANN SO HE CAN SHARE INFORMATION WITH THE EDT AND TO GIVE A RECAP TO THE BOARD.

WE HAVE PROVIDED THE BOARD WITH AN OVER VIEW ON WHAT EDUCATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS ARE AND HOW THEY ARE USED AND HOW THEY ARE DEVELOPED.

WE PROVIDED YOU ALL WITH OUR DRAFT EDUCATIONAL SPECIFICATION DOCUMENT.

AND WE HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH OUR EDT AND WE MET WITH STAFF AND MET WITH STUDENTS.

WE HAVE HAD THE COMMUNITY SESSIONS AND I THINK WE HAVE ANOTHER COMMUNITY SESSION COMING UP THIS WEEK AND WE ARE PROVIDING THE INFORMATION WITH SOME OF THE REVISIONS THAT CAME OUT OF THE CORRESPONDENCE AND MEETINGS WE HAVE HAD THUS FAR.

WITH THAT SAID, I WILL TURN THINGS OVER TO DR. MANN TO TAKE US THROUGH TODAY.

AND THEN WE WILL OPEN UP FOR QUESTIONS.

>> THANK YOU, DR. HUTCHINGS.

JUST PULLING UP THE PRESENTATION WHILE WE SPEAK.

ALL RIGHT.

IF WE GO TO OUR CENTRAL QUESTIONS WE HAVE THE CENTRAL QUESTIONS ON THE BOARD.

OUR FIVE ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS, WHAT FEEDBACK HAS BEEN RECEIVED FROM THE EDT STAFF AND STUDENTS ON THE COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM/EDUCATIONAL SPECIFICATION? WHAT CHANGES WILL BE INCORPORATED IN THE FINAL REVISION? AND HOW DOES THIS ALIGN WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD'S PROPOSED CIP BUDGET? AND WHAT IS THE SCHOOL BOARD BEING ASKED TO APPROVE TOMORROW? AND WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS.

AND SO OUR NEAR TERM DECISIONS WE MADE A DECISION ON COLOCATION AND NEXT IS COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM/ED SPECS AND THEN THE NEXT IS THE DESIGN CONCEPTS WHICH WILL HAVE A MEETING ON MARCH 18TH AND WE WILL ACTUALLY HAVE A DECISION AT THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING.

AS WE MENTIONED IN OUR TWO BY TWO'S.

WE HAD OUR EDT MEETING AND WE TOOK IT THROUGH THREE DIFFERENT BREAKOUT ROOMS. THINKING OF THE MEDIA CENTER AND GETTING THE FEEDBACK, IT TAKES YOU TO WHAT THE HEART OF THE SCHOOL CAN MEAN AND WHAT TYPES OF FLEXIBLE LEARNING CAN HAPPEN IN A CLASSROOM AND A LAB.

WE TALKED ABOUT THE HIGH INTENSITY AND LOW-INTENSITY AND WHAT THOSE ARE.

AND WE WANT AS MUCH FLEXIBILITY IN THE CLASSROOMS AS POSSIBLE MOVING FORWARD.

AND DISCUSSION ON TEACHER AND STUDENT FEEDBACK AND ANY DISCUSSIONS THEY HAD HAD THE FOLLOWING MONDAY.

NEXT SLIDE.

THINKING ABOUT THE INSTRUCTIONAL PRIORITIES FOR EDT FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT.

WE ARE USING PROJECT-BASED LEARNING WHICH EDT DECIDED ON WAY BACK WHEN, WHEN WE DECIDED ONE OR TWO HIGH SCHOOLS.

IT GIVES US A CHANCE TO TALK ABOUT INTER DISCIPLINARY INSTRUCTION AND WE KNOW THAT RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT PROJECT-BASED LEARNING AS INCREASED ACADEMIC OUTCOMES.

AND WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT THE WORK THAT THE TEAM HAS DONE THROUGH THE ADVISORY BOARD.

WE THINK ABOUT MOVING AND REALLY DISCUSSING WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND TEACH PROFESSIONAL LEARNING.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE OUR TEACHERS CAN TALK ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO BE IN THE ARTS AND SO WHEN THEY ARE DOING THE PROJECT-BASED LEARNING THEY CAN HAVE THE

[00:05:03]

CONNECTIONS.

AND LASTLY IS EQUITY.

WE KNOW WITH OUR STRATEGIC PLAN FOR EQUITY FOR ALL WE ARE BRINGING IT BACK TO THE EDT AND WANT TO COME UP WITH FOCUSING SOLELY ON THE CAMPUS.

WE WANT TO REFOCUS AND IT IS NOW THE CONNECTED NETWORK.

AND WE WANT CONNECTED ACCESS FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS INCLUDING STUDENTS AT SATELLITE CSC.

AND THEN ALSO STUDENT ENGAGEMENT IN THAT DISCUSSION ON EQUITY.

ALL STUDENTS ARE ENGAGED WHETHER IT IS ACADEMICALLY AND SOCIALLY AND THEY KNOW THEY ARE PART OF THE TITAN EXPERIENCE MOVING FORWARD.

FIRST IS STAFF FEEDBACK.

WE TALKED ABOUT THE HEART OF THE SCHOOL, THE LIBRARY AND MEDIA.

WE HEARD FROM STAFF THAT THEY AGREED THAT THE LIBRARY IN THE HEART OF MINNIE HOWARD IS THE HEART OF THE SCHOOL.

THEY SUGGESTED WE HAD QUIET ROOMS AND COLLABORATION ROOMS IN THE LIBRARY.

SECURITY WAS A COMMON THREAD THAT CAME UP AND THEY ASK ABOUT QUESTIONS ABOUT ACCESS, CONTROL AND SAFETY.

AND THEN DR. HOOPER, I DON'T KNOW IF SHE IS ON THE CALL TODAY, BUT WITH THE STUDENTS THERE IS CONCERN ABOUT WI-FI AVAILABILITY.

AND THEN OPEN SPACES.

THE STAFF IS EXCITED ABOUT WHAT WE ARE SEEING -- THE BUILDING.

AND THEY ARE EXCITED ABOUT THE ABILITY TO HAVE INPUT.

AND FOR STUDENT FEEDBACK, THERE IN DESIGNS ON THE HEART OF THE SCHOOL.

THEY ALL AGREE THAT THE HEART OF THE SCHOOL IS WHERE THE STUDENTS ARE.

THAT COULD BE IN THE LIBRARY AND IT COULD BE IN THE ATHLETIC FIELD AND IT COULD BE IN THE CLASSROOM AND THE BAND ROOM.

THEY ARE EXCITED ABOUT THE LARGER SPACES AND MORE OPEN SPACE.

THAT IS A COMMON THEME.

YOU CAN SEE WI-FI FUNCTIONALITY.

AND THEN FROM THE STUDENTS WHO LIVE THIS WORLD AND THERE IS CONCERN ABOUT THE PRICE AND UH -- AND AVAILABILITY OF PUBLIC PARKING.

AND THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE BUS SCHEDULES AND THE OVER CROWDING AS WE THINK ABOUT TRANSPORTATION MOVING FORWARD WITH THE CONNECTED NETWORK.

AND LASTLY IS SECURITY.

MORE CAMERAS AND FEWER ENTRANCES AND EXITS AND MORE SUPERVISION IN THOSE AREAS.

NEXT SLIDE.

>> AND SO WHAT IS CHANGING IN OUR FINAL COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM? YOU MAY RECALL THE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT SMALLER LEARNING COMMUNITIES AND TO MAKE SURE WE CLEAR UP THE CONFUSION.

WE ARE GOING WITH THE INTER DISCIPLINARY LEARNING NEIGHBORHOODS.

THAT'S THE LEARNING THROUGHOUT THE NETWORK.

YOU CAN SEE WE TALKED ABOUT ADDITIONAL LABS AND WHAT THAT MEANS.

AND YOU CAN SEE WE ARE MOVING THE POOL, COLOCATED SPACES AND UNDERGROUND PARKING AND NOW I WILL TURN IT OVER AND GO THROUGH THE REST OF THE PRESENTATION.

>> THANK YOU, DR. MANN.

AND IF WE MOVE TO THE NEXT SLIDE IT WILL SHOW WHY WE MOVED THOSE ITEMS INTO OPTIONAL DESIGN.

WE TALKED A LITTLE ABOUT THIS AT THE FIRST PRESENTATION.

AND SO JUST SHOWING WHAT THE SCHOOL BOARDS, THE ACPS CONSTRUCTION BUDGET IS, WHICH WE THINK BASED ON THE SCHOOL BOARD'S PROPOSED CIP INCLUDES 150 MANAGE FOR THAT CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT THAT WILL ULTIMATELY GET THROUGH PROCURING THE RISK.

YOU CAN SEE THOSE ARE THE SPACES THAT WE HAVE TO HAVE.

IT IS THE HIGHER END OF THOSE AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE ARE MAKING AN INVESTMENT IN OUR SCHOOL FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FOR OUR LEARNING AND MAKING SURE THE ENVIRONMENT IS OPTIMAL BEFORE WE CONSIDER ALL OF THESE OTHER THINGS.

THAT IS WHY THE POOL AS WELL AS THE UNDERGROUND PARKING AND THE COLOCATED PARTNER USES.

WE NEED TO SPEAK WITH CITY AND STAFF AND NOT ANTICIPATING FUNDING CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THEIR SIDE.

AND SO SOME OF THESE THINGS WE MAY NEED TO ELIMINATE FROM THE TOTAL SPACE PROGRAM.

AND THE COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM PROVIDES THE FLEXIBILITY TO DO THAT AS WE GET INTO THE DESIGN AND DISCOVER MORE AND MORE OF WHAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO INCLUDE.

IF WE CAN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

WE WANTED TO FOCUS A LITTLE ON THE AQUATICS FACILITY BECAUSE WE KNOW THIS IS A COMMUNITY DESIRING SOMETHING WE TALKED ABOUT AS BEING PART OF THIS PROJECT.

AS WE MENTIONED BEFORE, IT IS EXPENSIVE.

CURRENTLY IT IS $14.5 MILLION FOR THIS EIGHT-LANE POOL INCLUDING A SEPARATE

[00:10:06]

DIVING TANK AND NET ZERO REQUIREMENTS.

WE BRING THIS UP BECAUSE POOLS USE A LOT OF ENERGY, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE WITH THE HVAC EQUIPMENT REQUIRED AND THE WATER AND THE DIFFERENT EQUIPMENT REQUIRED TO OPERATE THE POOL FACILITY.

IT ADDS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF ENERGY USE AND BECAUSE OF THAT ACHIEVING IT IS MORE DIFFICULT.

WE DON'T KNOW OF ANY AQUATICS AND WE MAY THINK ABOUT THIS A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY AND POTENTIALLY IN THE FUTURE SEPARATING IT OUT AND EXPLORING OTHER ALTERNATIVES SO IT IS NOT TAKING AWAY FROM THE ENERGY USE OF THE BUILDING.

WHAT WE ARE EXPLORING WITH, THERE IS A LOT OF DISCUSSION THAT IF WE DO HAVE A POOL, USING THE FACILITY TO THE ONLY FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL AND ATHLETICS OR HIGH SCHOOL PE, BUT POTENTIALLY K-12 SWIM EDUCATION.

SO WHAT IS INSTEAD OF A DIVE IN -- WELL, WHAT WOULD A TRAINING POOL LOOK LIKE TO TEACH OUR YOUNG LEARNERS HOW TO SWIM.

THAT'S ONE THING WE ARE CONSIDERING.

AND WE ARE ALSO LOOKING AT THE POTENTIAL FOR A SIX-LANE POOL, BUT SIX LANES VERSUS EIGHT LANES AND HOW DOES IT LOOK FROM AN ATHLETIC STANDPOINT.

H SO THIS IS THE SAME PRESENTATION.

IT WILL NOT HAVE EVERY DETAIL.

WE WILL WORK THROUGH IT AND COORDINATING AND GETTING FEEDBACK FROM OUR STAFF.

AND THE EDUCATIONAL DESIGN TEAM THROUGHOUT.

BUT IN PARTICULAR WE ASK YOU TO APPROVE THIS BECAUSE IT INCLUDES THE PROPOSED CAPACITY AND THE LIST OF SPACES IN GENERAL AND THE CONFIGURATION OF SPACES AND SETS UP THE BUDGET EXPECTATION.

THAT'S WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR YOU TO APPROVE TOMORROW.

WE CAN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

AND REITERATING THAT THIS IS PART OF A GRAND PLAN FOR US TO GET TO A SEPTEMBER 2024 OPENING.

THAT'S WHY ALL OF THESE SCHEDULED THINGS ARE IMPERATIVE TO MAKE SURE WE STAY ON TRACK AND SO THAT WE CAN MOVE INTO THE DESIGN.

IF WE CAN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

AND JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU ANOTHER -- JUST A LIST OF THE THINGS GOING ON.

OUR TEAM IS WORKING VERY HARD.

AND SO WE HAVE TOMORROW ANTICIPATING THE SCHOOL BOARD -- WELL, ON THIS DOCUMENT ON MARCH 8TH, I BELIEVE THERE ARE ROLLING STAFF MEETINGS AS WELL AS WE ARE WORKING TO SCHEDULE A SCHOOL SPACE TEAM.

WE HAVE A SEPARATE SCHOOL SPACE TEAM WORKING WITH THE BUILDING ELEMENTS WITH THE DESIGN TEAM.

SO WORKING TO MEET WITH THEM.

AND MARCH 8TH IS OUR COMMUNITY DESIGN KICKOFF WEBINAR.

IT IS A PLUG WE SEND OUT FOR THE MARCH 15TH MEETING.

IT IS ACTUALLY MARCH 16TH NOW.

THAT MEETING AS WELL AS A SURVEY TO GET PEOPLE'S IDEAS ON WHAT THEY ARE HOPING TO SEE IN THE NEW MINNIE HOWARD BUILDING.

AND WE WILL HAVE A DESIGN KICKOFF NEXT WEEK.

WE HAVE A FEW MORE EDT MEETINGS.

THE MARCH 16TH -- MARCH 15TH COMMUNITY MEETING WAS MOVED TO MARCH 16TH.

IT IS NOW TUESDAY EVENING.

AND WE WILL BE PRESENTING YOU CONCEPTS BEFORE YOU KNOW IT.

AND THEN WE'LL LEAVE YOU ALONE FOR DECISION MAKING FOR A LITTLE BIT.

THAT'S ALL WE HAVE FOR YOU TODAY.

BUT REALLY INTERESTED IN HAVING YOU ALL ASK US YOUR QUESTIONS OR GIVE US YOUR FEEDBACK TO MAKE SURE WE CAN HAVE A SUCCESSFUL VOTE TOMORROW.

ACTUALLY, MAYBE YOU CAN STOP SHARING FOR NOW.

BACK TO YOU, DR. HUTCHINGS.

>> THANK YOU, MS. GULICK AND I WILL TURN THINGS BACK OVER TO MADAM CHAIR.

>> THANK YOU, EVERYONE, FOR THE PRESENTATION.

AND I HAVE A QUESTION SO FAR.

MS. GENTRY.

>> THANK YOU.

AND THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE STAFF FOR DOING ALL OF THIS.

I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER THINGS ON YOUR PLATE AS WELL.

ONE KIND OF CLARIFICATION -- ACTUALLY LOOKING AHEAD A LITTLE BIT, PAST TOMORROW, BUT LOOKING TO THE NEXT MILESTONE DATE WITH THE APRIL 8TH, I APPRECIATE THE RATIONAL OF PUTTING THEM IN THEIR OWN CATEGORY.

THE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE UNDERGROUND PARKING AND THE POOL AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

I GUESS, I JUST NEED TO UNDERSTAND FROM A TIMELINE POINT OF VIEW, WE'RE NOT

[00:15:02]

MAKING THOSE KINDS OF DECISIONS WITH THE ED SPEC VOTE TOMORROW.

WOULD WE BE NEEDING TO MAKE SOME DEFINITIVE DECISIONS ON POOL OR UNDER GROUND PARKING BY THE APRIL 8TH DESIGN CONCEPT MEETING? THE REASON I ASK IS I AM A LITTLE CONCERNED ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF TIME -- THOSE ARE ISSUES THAT POTENTIALLY THE COMMUNITY MIGHT BE VERY, VERY INTERESTED IN.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE LEAVING ENOUGH TIME FOR THAT AND FOR PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND, YOU KNOW, THOSE KIND OF DECISION MOMENTS.

>> SO I WOULD SAY WITH REGARDS TO THAT, BY THE TIME WE GET TO CONCEPT PHASE WE LIKE TO NAILED DOWN ALL OF THE ELEMENTS ESPECIALLY THE BIG ELEMENTS.

I WOULD SAY PARKING IS DEFINITELY A DECISION BY THEN.

BY THEN WE WILL DEFINITELY KNOW IF THESE CO-LOCATED USES WILL BE FUNDED BY THE CITY AND INCORPORATED.

AS FAR AS THE POOL, WE ARE WORKING WITH THE ARCHITECT TO SEE IS THERE A WAY -- IN ANY CONCEPT WE CAN EVOLVE THE CONCEPT TO POTENTIALLY INCLUDE THAT AND NOT INCLUDE THAT PIECE.

I THINK IT TAKES BROADER DISCUSSION.

AND LOOKING AT ALTERNATE WAYS TO DELIVER THAT POOL.

AND MAYBE IF IT IS NOT PART OF THIS PROJECT, IT IS PART OF SOME PARTNERSHIP IN THE FUTURE AND HOW DO WE DESIGN FOR THAT NOW.

>> THAT'S HELPFUL.

THANK YOU.

>> MS. ANDERSON?

>> YEAH.

I JUST WANT TO FOLLOW-UP ON THE POOL.

ARE THERE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT SOMEHOW TAKING THAT OUT OF THE NET ZERO? WE DON'T KNOW THERE IS ONE THAT IS DONE THAT WAY, THEN WHY -- I THINK THAT'S ASKING A LOT OF US TO TRY TO BENIGN NEAR -- WE ARE ALREADY BEING PIONEERS FOR THIS NET ZERO THING, BUT TO DO SOMETHING THAT HASN'T BEEN DONE AT ALL IS JUST BEYOND, I THINK.

>> OF COURSE WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE NET ZERO ENERGY, BUT JUST TODAY WE STARTED TO HAVE THIS CONVERSATION WITH CITY STAFF ABOUT WHAT WILL BE ALLOWED AND COULD WE POTENTIALLY LOOK AT THE POOL FACILITY SEPARATE FROM THE NET ZERO ENERGY REQUIREMENT.

THAT IS SOMETHING WE ARE LOOKING AT.

>> GREAT.

I ACTUALLY HAVE ANOTHER ONE, MADAM CHAIR.

IT IS A COMMENT I MADE IN MY TWO BY TWO.

I AM JUST CONCERNED WITH, I LOVE THE BIG SPACES, BUT I ALSO WANT TO MAKE SURE -- LIKE I AM SOMEBODY WHO ABSOLUTELY HATES AND CANNOT WORK IN AN OPEN OFFICE ENVIRONMENT.

I READ THE COMMENTS ABOUT THE VISUAL DISTRACTION.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE -- AND I HAVE BEEN IN PLACES THAT HAVE REMOVABLE WALLS.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THE VISUAL DISTRACTION AND THE NOISE DISTRACTIONS ARE GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT WE REALLY LOOK INTO.

>> CAN I GET SOMEBODY FROM PARK EASE MEANTS TO COMMENT ON THAT?

>> SURE.

WE SHARE YOUR CONCERNS.

AS I MENTIONED THE LAST TIME WE ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO ACCUSE STICKS AND THE LEARN -- ACOUSTICS AND THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

WE HAVE A RESEARCH PROJECT THAT IS GOING ON THAT IS EXPLORING HOW TO ENHANCE ACOUSTICS IN ACTIVE, VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS.

IT WILL HAVE COMPLETE FOCUS ON THE ENHANCED ACOUSTICAL ENVIRONMENT.

AND ALSO A VISUAL DISTRACTION IS SOMETHING THAT WE ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO.

TRANSPARENCY IN THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT SO A VISUAL CONNECTIVITY IS BOTH A FACTOR IN SAFETY AND SECURITY IN THE LEARNING DEPARTMENT, BUT ALSO A WAY TO ACTIVATE A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT SPACES WITHIN THE EDUCATIONAL SETTING.

SO EXTENDED LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS THAT COMPLIMENT THE CLASSROOM, FOR EXAMPLE.

IT REQUIRES SUPERVISION TO BE EFFECTIVE AS WELL.

WE WILL BE EXPLORING EACH OF THESE OPTIONS AND YOU WILL SEE IT START TO COME TO PLAY

[00:20:07]

IN THE SUBSEQUENT PHASES AS WELL.

>> THANK YOU.

>> DR. RIEF.

>> THANK YOU.

THE FIRST QUESTION I HAVE IS ABOUT THE BUDGET.

CAN YOU JUST REMIND ME OR REVIEW THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FIELD AND THE TEAR DOWN OF THE MINNIE HOWARD SITE, IS THAT INCLUDED IN THIS BUDGET?

>> YES, IT IS.

>> AND I WAS WONDERING, I ENJOYED READING THE FEEDBACK FROM THE FOCUS GROUPS THAT HAPPENED.

I WANTED TO ASK ABOUT TWO THINGS.

ONE STUDENT COMMENT THAT I THOUGHT WAS REALLY INTERESTING WAS IN TERMS OF TAKING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.

THIS STUDENT COMMENTED THAT IT WOULD BE NICE IF THEY COULD TEACH US HOW TO RIDE THE BUS.

I HAD TO FLAG THAT.

SOMETIMES THE BEST LAID PLANS -- I DON'T KNOW.

AT LEAST ONE STUDENT IS THINKING THEY NEED A LITTLE MORE GUIDANCE ON RIDING THE BUS.

WANTED TO POINT THAT OUT.

SO TWO THINGS, THE WI-FI FUNCTIONALITY, THERE WAS STUDENTS AND STAFF WHO COMMENTED ON THAT.

I WAS WONDERING WERE THEY SPEAKING ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES IN THE SAME BUILDING? AND I KNOW WE HAVE TALKED ABOUT AN INFRASTRUCTURE CHANGE THAT WOULD INCREASE THE BROADBAND.

I WAS JUST CURIOUS HOW THAT IMPACTS THE PROJECT OR WHAT THINKING -- WHAT KIND OF TECHNOLOGY OR HARDWARE WOULD BE IN THE NEW BUILDING, OR IS THAT TOTALLY SEPARATE FROM THIS PROCESS? AND I HAVE TO SAY THE SECURITY CONCERNS RAISED BY THE STUDENTS WERE CONCERNING TO ME.

I WAS JUST WONDERING IF WE COULD GET A LITTLE MORE INSIGHT ON THAT.

I KNOW WE HAVE HAD SOME RECENT CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THE SCHOOL CLIMATE.

THE SAMPLE FOR THE SCHOOL CLIMATE SURVEY WAS QUITE SMALL.

I AM INTERESTED IN SEEING A MORE ROBUST SURVEY OF SCHOOL CLIMATE IN THE FUTURE.

ANY INSIGHT INTO SOME OF THAT FEEDBACK I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE HEARING.

>> I KNOW THE TEAM CAN ELABORATE A LITTLE MORE.

ONE THING I DO WANT TO ADDRESS IS THE CLIMATE SURVEY.

THAT'S PART OF OUR WORK THAT WE WILL BE DOING WITH ACPS 2025 AND SURVEY THAT'S ARE A LOT MORROW BUST THAN THEY WERE PREVIOUSLY.

YOU ALL WILL GET AN UPDATE ON THAT TOMORROW AS WE TALK ABOUT ACPS 2025.

IN REGARDS TO THE TECHNOLOGY COMPONENT AND THE TEAM CAN ELABORATE ON THIS, BUT I'M SURE EVERYONE IS RESPONDING FROM THEIR CURRENT EXPERIENCES AND MAYBE NOT WHAT THEY FORESEE WILL HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE.

A LESSON WE LEARNED ABOUT BUILDINGS IS HOW WE BUILT TC.

WE OPENED PATRICK HENRY AND THEY DON'T HAVE THE SAME INTERNET CHALLENGES THAT TC WILLIAMS EXPERIENCES NOW.

WE ARE ABLE TO -- WHEN WE ARE DOING OUR BUILDINGS, WE ARE ABLE TO USE THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY THAT IS AVAILABLE AT THAT PARTICULAR TIME THAT WILL ALLOW US TO HAVE THE APPROPRIATE BROADBAND AND BAND WIDTH WITHIN THAT SCHOOL BUILDING.

WE ARE AND WE HAVE UPGRADED OUR KING STREET BAND WIDTH FOR INTERNET.

AND WE WILL SEE HOW IT ALL WORKS OUT WHEN THE STUDENTS COME BACK ON MARCH THE 16TH TO SEE HOW THAT LOOKS.

WE KNEW WE WOULD HAVE SOME CHALLENGES AND BE HAVE BEEN HAVING CHALLENGES.

DR. HOOPER, I CAN SEE YOU JUST CAME ON, SO I WILL TURN THINGS OVER TO YOU.

>> I THINK YOU DID A GREAT JOB.

THERE ARE ALWAYS LESSONS LEARNED BETWEEN EVERY BUILDING.

WE MET WITH THE ARCHITECTS AND THE PLANNERS AND TALKING ABOUT MAKING SURE WE HAVE DISTRIBUTED SYSTEM TO MAKE SURE OUR CELLULAR SYSTEMS WORK.

AND TECHNOLOGY IS ALWAYS CHANGING.

WE DON'T WANT TO SEND OUT EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT TODAY.

IT IS A CLOSE WORKING RELATIONSHIP AND WE HAVE BUILT A BUNCH OF SCHOOLS IN THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS THAT WE HAVE LEARNED ABOUT.

I THINK BEING PART OF THE PROCESS AND NOW AFTER WE EXPERIENCED THIS PANDEMIC, I THINK WE WILL BE TEACHING DIFFERENTLY THAN WE HAVE BEFORE.

>> I DON'T SEE ANY OTHER HANDS.

SO I THINK -- ONE THING I WOULD ADD TO WHAT HAS BEEN SAID, MICHELLE, THAT I NOTICED IS WHAT IT ALSO PULLED OUT FOR ME AS WE WERE HAVING THE DISCUSSIONS IN

[00:25:05]

EDT THAT CONNECTION IS IMPORTANT TO HIGH SCHOOL KIDS.

OUR STUDENTS, THAT IS THEIR -- IT IS ONE OF THEIR PRIMARY FORMS THAT THEY FEEL CONNECTED.

SO I THINK IT ALSO FEELS AS WE HAVE DESIGNED -- AS WE GO INTO CONCEPT AND DESIGN THESE DIFFERENT SPACES LIKE CONNECTIVITY EVEN WITH TECHNOLOGY AND IN AS MANY SPACES AS POSSIBLE I THINK WILL BE IMPORTANT FOR THE KIDS TO FEEL CONNECTED ACROSS THE SCHOOL.

IT JUST REVEALED TO ME HOW IT IS PART OF THE GENERATION.

EXCUSE ME.

I ALSO FOUND THAT VERY INTERESTING.

I ALSO FOUND THAT IT LINKED ITSELF TO DISCUSSIONS AND SPACES.

EVEN HOW THE LIBRARY CAN BE USED IN VARIOUS OTHER SPACES IN THE BUILDING, SO -- OKAY.

WITH THAT SAID I DON'T SEE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS.

SO I GUESS IF WE HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEED, THIS WAS A VERY SHORT ANDY -- SHORT AND EFFICIENT WORK SESSION.

TOMORROW WE ARE EXPECTED TO VOTE ON THE ED SPECS.

ALL RIGHT.

WELL, I APPRECIATE YOU ALL.

ANYTHING ELSE?

>> I JUST WANT TO ADD ABOUT IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THE NEXT MEETING AT 7:00, THAT THAT IS A SEPARATE LINK.

SLT MEMBERS WERE MOSTLY GIVEN THE PUBLIC LINK.

YOU HAVE TO LOG OUT OF THIS MEETING IS THE WHOLE POINT.

THANK YOU.

>> OKAY.

WITH THAT SAID, THANKS, EVERYBODY AND WE'LL SEE YOU -- SOME OF YOU, MAYBE NOT ALL, BUT WE WILL SEE SOME OF YOU IN A FEW MINUTES.

>> THANK YOU.
