>> GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE.

ROBERT EASLEY.

THE DIRECTOR OF BUDGET ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

>> THANK YOU, MR. EASLEY.

CINDY HART, I SAW YOU WERE BACK, DID YOU WANT TO INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO EVERYONE.

ALL RIGHT.

THAT'S OKAY.

DID I MISS ANYONE? ALL RIGHT.

GREAT.

CINDY SAID SHE HAS NO AUDIO.

SHE JUST SENT ME A TEXT.

>> SORRY ABOUT THAT.

I GOT IT RUNNING FINALLY.

I'M 16 DAY HART, CHAIR OF THE SPECIAL ED ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

>> MOVING THROUGH THE AGENDA.

THE FIRST THING YOU SEE.

WE HAVE -- SUSAN WAS KIND ENOUGH TO LIST SEVERAL RESOURCES THAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE FOR COMMITTEE CHAIRS IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T COME ACROSS THOSE AND SO

[00:05:02]

THERE'S THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE HANDBOOK, THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE WEB PAGES AND THE STRATEGIC PLAN.

AND THE REASON WE THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE THIS STRATEGIC PLAN UP FRONT AND AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE IS SIMPLY BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, HOPEFULLY WE ALWAYS WANT OUR WORK TO ALIGN SO AS YOU'RE WORKING ON YOUR ADVISORY COMMITTEES AND YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT THINGS YOU ARE ADVISING THE BOARD, AFTER SOMETHING AS WE CENTER THEM AROUND THE STRATEGIC PLAN, THAT'S IMPORTANT.

SUSAN IS THERE ANYTHING IN PARTICULAR YOU WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT IN THESE? OR WE JUST HAND THEM OVER? THEY ARE HERE IF YOU NEED THEM.

YOU ARE ON MUTE, SUSAN.

YOU ARE STILL ON MUTE.

>> SORRY ABOUT THAT.

I LOST MY SCREEN AND IT'S BECAUSE I WAS SHARING.

SORRY.

SO I DON'T KNOW IF THERE'S ANYTHING IN PARTICULAR ABOUT ANY OF THESE THAT ARE SPECIAL OTHER THAN WE DO WANT TO LOOK AT YOUR ADVISORY COMMITTEE PAGES AND SEND IN ANY CORRECTIONS, ANYTHING YOU WANT TO REVISE OR I KNOW THAT LIKE SEAC IS DOING A MAJOR REVISION ON THEIR PAGE , INCLUDING LINKS OF OTHER INFORMATION AND THAT'S THE KIND OF THING THAT YOU WANT TO DO, IF IT IS, LET US KNOW, LET US KNOW THE INFORMATION AND WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON ALL OF OUR WEB PAGES THIS YEAR AND I THINK WE'RE JUST REALLY GETTING TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE WEB PAGES RIGHT NOW SO IF YOU HAVE STUFF, AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, BY ALL MEANS, EMAIL ME OR YOU CAN EMAIL CHANEL HILL WHO IS ALSO ON THIS CALL.

SHE'S THE DEPUTY CLERK AND SHE'S HAPPY TO HELP AS WELL.

THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

>> THANK YOU.

ARE THERE ANY -- DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ANY OF THESE ITEMS IN PARTICULAR? OKAY.

THE RESOURCES ARE THERE FOR YOU AND AGAIN IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO EMAIL SUSAN OR CHANEL.

ALL RIGHT.

THE NEXT THING IS COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP.

I KNOW SOMETIMES I THINK SEVERAL OF THE GROUPS HAVE PROBABLY GONE THROUGH THE CHALLENGE OF SORT OF HAVING A HEALTHY MEMBERSHIP SO WE CAN TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT, IF ANYBODY WANTS TO TALK ABOUT CHALLENGES AND, YOU KNOW, OPENINGS AND RECRUITING AND ATTENDANCE.

I WILL SAY GIVEN SORT OF OUR FOCUS ON EQUITY AND THE STRATEGIC PLAN, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT SUSAN AND I DISCUSSED THAT WE THINK WOULD BE BENEFICIAL THEM IS REALLY STARTING TO FOCUS ON WHETHER COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP IS REPRESENTATIVE OF THE STUDENT POPULATION AND SO, YOU KNOW, W POSSIBLY TALK THROUGH WAYS OF EXPANDING I GUESS THE REPRESENTATION IN OUR MEMBERSHIP IN TERMS OF RACIAL AND ETHNIC DIVERSITY.

SO I'M GOING TO ACTUALLY JUST SORT OF THROW OUT THERE -- ARE THERE QUESTIONS FOR ANY OF THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS AROUND MEMBERSHIP, CHALLENGES, THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO PUT OUT THERE NOW THAT MAYBE WE CAN ALL DISCUSS AND WORK THROUGH?

>> I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT THROUGH THE PERKINS GRANT THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR CTE DOES HAVE A DESIGNATED MAKEUP BASED ON OUR NONTRADITIONAL AND SPECIAL POPULATIONS SO THAT IS HOW MELISSA AND I HAVE HAVE BROUGHT IN OUR MEMBERSHIP BASED ON THE STIPULATIONS WITHIN THE PERKINS GRANT.

>> OKAY.

THANK YOU FOR SHARING THAT.

>> I CAN GO REAL QUICK.

SORRY.

I HAD A CONTRACTOR SHOW UP AND I MIGHT HAVE TO HOP OFF AND LET HIM DO HIS THINGS

[00:10:04]

AND I'LL BE BACK.

FOR TALENTED AND GIFTED I HAVE TO PAT OURSELVES ON THE BACK.

WHEN I SHOWED THE COMMITTEE FOUR YEARS AGO IT WAS NOT A FULL COMMITTEE.

WE STILL HAD ONE OR TWO OPEN SPOTS WHICH I'M ACTIVELY TRYING TO FILL AND AT THE TIME WE HAD ONE AFRICAN-AMERICAN PARENT AND ONE ASIAN PARENT.

WE NOW HAVE FOUR AFRICAN-AMERICAN PARENTS, ONE ASIAN PARENT.

WE'RE HOPING TO PICK UP SOMEONE FROM THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY.

WE USED TO ONLY HAVE ONE PARENT FROM AN EAST END SCHOOL AND NOW WE HAVE THREE EAST END SCHOOLS IT'S ALL BEEN THROUGH PERSONA RELATIONSHIPS, ME GOING OUT AND, YOU KNOW, SPEAKING AT DIFFERENT VENUES, WORKING WITH SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AND SO, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE SOME SUCCESS IN MOVING FORWARD EIGHT I HAVE HAD MORE INTEREST IN THE COMMITTEE AND FRANKLY I'VE HAD TO PUT PEOPLE ON HOLD JUST BECAUSE I SEEM TO HAVE AN OVERABUNDANCE OF PEOPLE IN THE MOUNT VERNON DISTRICT AT THE MOMENT THAT WANT TO BE INVOLVED AND I DESPERATELY WANT TO GET THE SCHOOLS THAT ARE NOT CURRENTLY REPRESENTED ON THE COMMITTEES.

WE MAY HAVE TO LOOK AT SOMETHING ABOUT SORT OF LIKE RESTRUCTURING OUR BYLAWS SO THAT WE CAN ENSURE THAT CONTINUITY.

TUCKER WAS EXCITED AND THEY ARE LOOKING TO MAKE A TAG LIAISON PART OF THEIR PTA REPRESENTATIVE EVERY YEAR AND I THOUGHT THAT MIGHT HAVE ELECTION TO IT FRANKLY FOR THIS COMMITTEE GOING FORWARD TO COMPLETELY RESTRUCTURE AND MAKE SURE WE HAVE A REPRESENTATIVE FROM EVERY SCHOOL IN THAT AWAY.

BUT TRADITIONALLY I DON'T THINK WE'VE HAD AS MUCH INTEREST AND SO WE ALWAYS HAD OPEN SPOTS ON THE COMMITTEE BUT THAT'S NOT THE CASE ANYMORE.

HOPEFULLY THAT WILL CONTINUE TO BE A POSITIVE TREND.

>> THANK YOU, LAURA.

THAT'S ACTUALLY VERY HELPFUL TO HEAR.

CINDY HART.

>> FOR ^SACT, WE HAVE OPEN SPOTS.

WE HAVE A BIT DIVERSITY BUT WE HAVE A CONCENTRATION OF WHITE PARENTS AND ELEMENTARY PARENTS AND SO WE ARE MAKING A SIGNIFICANT EFFORT AS YOU KNOW THIS YEAR TO REACH OUT TO ALL THE SCHOOLS.

W BECAUSE THEY TEND TO BE NEWER IN THE GAME AND ARE ENGAGED WITH ALL THESE THINGS BUT I AM WONDERING, A QUESTION I HAVE, AS WE FILL OUR OPEN SPOTS HOPEFULLY THIS PROCESS WILL HELP UPS GET MORE PARENTS WHO KNOW ABOUT IT OR PARENTS ENGAGED AND WANTING TO GET INVOLVED.

I'M WONDERING ABOUT IN TERMS OF DIVERSITY LIKE I DON'T KNOW THAT IF WE ACTUALLY KNOW IF THE PARENT APPLIES, LIKE WHAT IS THEIR RACE.

I CAN'T REMEMBER FROM THE FORM AND IS THAT SOMETHING THAT WE CAN USE AS, YOU KNOW, LIKE IF WE DON'T KNOW, LIKE HOW DO WE BRING THAT TO PLAY IN TERMS OF FILLING OUR OPEN SPOTS.

AND ALSO WHETHER THEY ARE COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

WE DO PRIMARILY HAVE PARENTS OF COURSE BUT ARE YOU ABLE TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION?

>> SUSAN?

>> I CAN ANSWER THAT QUESTION.

SO THE FORMS -- WHEN PEOPLE APPLY IT DOES ASK THAT THEY ATTEND A MEETING AND CURRENTLY SINCE -- ATTEND A MEETING, AND SINCE THEY ARE IN ZOOM, YOU WOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET THAT PERSON, TO ACTUALLY SEE WHAT RACE OR WHATEVER THEY ARE.

I KNOW THAT SOME COMMITTEES HAVE DIFFICULTY IN THAT AND THIS IS PROBABLY MORE FOR SEAC AND TECH, WHEREAS LAURA MENTIONED YOU GET CLUSTERS OF PEOPLE FROM ONE AREA OR ONE SCHOOL.

AND SO IN THE PAST THE SCHOOL BOARD HAS REJECTED APPLICATIONS FOR THAT REASON SO THAT'S ONE THING THAT ALSO YOU WANT TO BE SURE TO DO AND WHILE WE DON'T PUT A RACE QUESTION ON THE FORM, CHECK WITH JOHN KAFKAKEE TO SEE IF WE CAN DO THAT, OUR SCHOOL BOARD ATTORNEY.

I THINK THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IS TO TALK TO THEM FIRST AND INVITE THEM TO THE MEETING AND THEN, YOU KNOW, YOU HAVE TO GO BY HOW YOU FEEL AND ONE THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS WITH ATTENDANCE ON THE COMMITTEE THAT WHEN YOU HAVE MEMBERS WHO ARE NOT ATTENDING THAT WE CAN REMOVE THEM FROM THE COMMITTEE AND THEN THERE IS SPACE THEN FOR SOMEONE MAYBE OF MORE DIVERSITY IF, YOU KNOW, THAT'S WHAT YOUR COMMITTING IS LOOKING FOR.

IT'S HARD TO REACH OUT TO A LOT OF THESE SCHOOLS ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW WITH A

[00:15:07]

LOT OF THEM NOT EVEN HAVING PTA MEETINGS BUT WHAT THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE HANDBOOK DOES STATE IS THAT -- OR WHAT THE POLICIES DO STATE IS THAT THEY SHOULD REFLECT THE DIVERSITY OF OUR SCHOOLS.

THAT'S YOUR AIM.

I KNOW FOR SOME THAT'S VERY HARD TO DO ESPECIALLY GIVEN SPECIFIC AREAS AND YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE WITH WHAT YOU HAVE.

WE WANT YOUR COMMITTEES TO HAVE PEOPLE ON THEM SO WE DON'T WANT YOU TO DENY -- IT'S A BALANCE.

YOU HAVE TO KIND OF BALANCE IT OUT.

WE WANT YOU TO HAVE A ROBUST COMMITTEE AND WE WANT ALSO DIVERSITY SO IT'S KIND OF HARD.

>> I WILL JUST MENTION THAT THE PRC, THE PARENT RESOURCE CENTER IS ASSISTING US TOO.

LATER THIS MORNING I'LL MEET WITH A GROUP OF HELPFUL WHILE SOME OF THE PTA AREN'T MEETING WITH CONNECT WITH IN THE PAST.

> TAG ACT MEETING AND THEY HAVE CHRISTIAN ALAVIA FROM THE BASE CENTER AND SHE'S A VERY GOOD RESOURCE FOR FINDING THAT DIVERSITY SPECIALLY NOT JUST LIKE RACIAL DIVERSITY BUT LIKE ETHNIC DIVERSITY BECAUSE SHE WORKS A LOT WITH SOME OF THE OTHER NATIONALITIES THAT WE HAVE IN OUR SYSTEM AND SO SHE'S A REALLY GOOD RESOURCE .

>> KAREN CEDARHILL.

>> THANK YOU.

I APPRECIATE ANY IDEAS ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT IN ADDITION TO WHAT WE'VE HEARD I WOULD BE ALL EARS FOR ANY IDEAS FROM GROUPS THAT HAVE HAD RECRUITING AND SUSTAINING -- RECRUITING AND RETENTION SUCCESS BUT DON'T RISE AND FALL ON INDIVIDUAL RELATIONSHIPS.

I THINK THAT THE SCHOOL HEALTH ADVISORY BOARD AND THE TIMES AND YEARS I'VE BEEN A PART OF IT HAS REALLY WAXED AND WANED, AND THE MEMBERSHIP IS DORMANT.

I'M A CHAIR BUT FAR OUTSIDE OF BYLAWS, ACTUALLY BEING A CHAIR AND I'M HAPPY TO BE HERE BUT I'M VERY CONCERNED THAT THE STRUCTURE FOR THESE IMPORTANT STRUCTURES ON THESE COMMITTEE WOULD RISE AND FALL ON RELATIONSHIPS RATHER THAN A TYPE OF RECRUITING VEHICLE THAT WOULD BE MORE SUSTAINABLE AROUND AN INDIVIDUAL AND I CERTAINLY CAN SEE WHERE THERE'S VALUE IN BASICALLY CONSUMER ADVOCACY, THAT THERE'S PARENTS THAT ARE INTERESTED IN PARTICULAR SUBJECTS BECAUSE THAT FITS THE PROFILE OF WHAT IS THE STUDENT PROFILE IN THEIR HOUSEHOLD OR WHAT THEY ASPIRE TO AND SOMETHING LIKE THE SCHOOL HEALTH ADVISORY BOARD THAT IS A REAL MIX OF PROFESSIONAL KNOLL EXPERTISE AND LIVED EXPERIENCE WE WANT AROUND THE TABLE, A BIT MORE TRICKY TO FIND AND SO WE HAVE A STRUGGLE AND WE HAVE A STRUGGLE WITH LEADERSHIP AS WELL.

WE'VE NOT BEEN ABLE TO BUILD A SUSTAINED PIPELINE FOR LEADERSHIP IN OUR COMMITTEE SO IT MAKES IT REALLY VULNERABLE, AS WE'VE EXPERIENCED IN THE LAST YEAR THAT WE HAVE BEEN OUT OF SCHOOL SO ANY IDEAS OF HOW TO KONKRATIEZ A SYSTEM THAT DOESN'T RISE AND FALL ON PEOPLE WOULD BE REALLY WELCOME.

.

>> I'M JUST CURIOUS IF ANYBODY HAS ANY THOUGHTS OR IDEAS.

>> FOR THE BUDGET ADVISORY COMMITTEE, LIKE KAREN WAS TALKING ABOUT, WE DON'T HAVE A REALLY ROBUST MEMBERSHIP.

THERE'S LIKE FOUR OF US RIGHT NOW AND IT'S NEVER REALLY EXCEEDED.

I THINK AT OUR HIGH WAS MAYBE SEVEN AND WHILE WE HAVE PEOPLE OF COLOR ON OUR COMMITTEE, I MEAN, I THINK THE OTHER PART OF IT IS WE STRUGGLE WITH MEMBERSHIP BECAUSE IT'S A PARTICULAR TIME OF SKILL SET THAT IS INTERESTED IN THE BUDGET ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND I THINK TOO, YOU KNOW, I CHAIRED THIS LAST YEAR AND I THINK WE'RE IN A MUCH BETTER PLACE NOW BUT JUST TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT IS THE VALUE ADD, HOW IS THE SCHOOL BOARD UTILIZING THE INFORMATION BECAUSE WITH ALL OF THE THINGS THAT PEOPLE CAN VOLUNTEER FOR IN THE COMMUNITY, OVER THE YEARS IT'S BEEN KIND OF A LACK OF WE FELT IT WAS A GOOD WORK PLAN AND A SOLID OUTCOME WE'RE SHOOTING FOR IN JUNE BUT I DO THINK THAT THAT -- THE STRUGGLE REMAINS A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE THE SCHOOL BOARD NEEDS TO BETTER ARTICULATE, LIKE FOR SOME COMMITTEES, AT LEAST FOR MINE, YOU KNOW, LIKE WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE AND WE DID A WHOLE SURVEY OF THE SCHOOL BOARD LAST YEAR AND THEN THE PANDEMIC HIT AND, YOU KNOW, I WAS LUCKY

[00:20:03]

ENOUGH TO MEET WITH JACINTA.

IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY GOING FORWARD.

I'LL KIND OF TIME OUT THIS YEAR AND TO KAREN'S POINT, I THINK THERE'S A CHAIR MIND ME WHO HAS BEEN THE SECRETARY BUT OTHER THAN THAT I'M NOT CERTAIN THERE'S PIPELINE GOING FORWARD AND WHETHER OR NOT THAT RECRUITMENT COMES FROM ASKING OUR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS, YOU KNOW, THAT'S HOW I INITIALLY JOINED THE BOARD, WHEN KAREN GRAPH ASKED ME BUT IT'S A PERSPECTIVE THAT PERHAPS IF THE SCHOOL BOARD TOOK A DIFFERENT POINT ON MAYBE TRYING TO RECRUIT OR SUPPORT OR FOCUS OR ASK FOR, WE COULD ALSO GET AT IT.

ABOUT SUSAN, I'M WONDERING IF IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY AS WE THINK OF DIVERSITY AND EQUITY AND INCLUSION TO ALSO INCLUDE A DIFFERENT QUESTION ON THE APPLICATION TO SAY LIKE, YOU KNOW, HOW WILL YOU BRING A DIVERSE PERSPECTIVE TO YOUR COMMITTEE BECAUSE YOU CAN GET AT, YOU KNOW, MULTIPLE DIFFERENT ADVANTAGE POINTS WITHOUT ASKING, YOU KNOW, DIRECTLY LIKE, YOU KNOW, THE QUESTIONS THAT THE ATTORNEY MAY OR MAY NOT SUPPORT AND I THINK LIKE THAT'S ULTIMATELY WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO ACHIEVE ACROSS THE DIVISION AND I THINK IN A LOT OF DIFFEREN WORK FOR AMERICA CORE AND WE HAVE THIS CONVERSATION DAY IN AND DAY OUT, HOW DO WE MAKE SURE WE'RE FOSTERING AN -- WHETHER THOSE QUESTIONS CAN BE MODIFIED SO THAT WHEN YOU HAVE APPLICATIONS YOU CAN USE THAT INFORMATION TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE REFLECTING THE COMMUNITY THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE -- THAT YOU WANT TO FOSTER AND CREATE.

THANKS.

>> THAT'S ACTUALLY A VERY GOOD SUGGESTION.

ACTUALLY IF OTHERS HAVE SUGGESTIONS OR QUESTIONS THAT MIGHT BE MORE HELPFUL FOR THEIR COMMITTEE, THEY'RE WELCOME TO SEND THOSE IN AS WELL.

BUT THAT'S SOMETHING WE CAN LOOK AT.

WE'LL CHECK THAT OUT.

>> THANK YOU FOR THAT, AARON.

ANY FOR QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS AROUND MEMBERSHIP?

>> HAS THERE EVER BEEN AN ATTEMPT TO DO MORE CENTRALIZED RECRUITING TO THE POINT AARON MADE THAT MAYBE SOME OWNERSHIP AND WE THINK OF THE BOARD BEING A CENTRALIZED PLACE OBVIOUSLY TO MAKE THE RECRUITING BE A FUNCTION OF ALL COMMITTEES, THAT THERE'S A TALENT POOL, THAT THERE'S -- THAT IT DOESN'T BY ALL MEANS ECLIPSE WHAT OTHERS HAVE BEEN REALLY SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE PEOPLE SHOULD USE THEIR VOLUNTEER HOURS FOR THE THINGS THEY FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE SKILLS ALIGNED AND THEY'VE GOT INTEREST ALIGNED BUT WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO BETTER SUPPORT ALL VOTES INCLUDING, AS AARON DISCUSSED, AND SHAB THAT WILL BE MORE DIFFICULT TO RECRUIT FOR BY HAVING SOMETHING MORE CENTRALIZED TO SUPPORT INDIVIDUAL NETWORKING AROUND SKILLS AND INTEREST.

>> I'M SORRY.

HOLD ON ONE SECOND.

THAT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE MEAGAN ONLY TO ANSWER.

MAYBE WE JUST PUT THAT IN THE POT, SUSAN, TO THINK ABOUT WHAT.

>> FOR CACT, AND SUGGESTIONS MADE WITH PRINCIPALS.

>> IN THE PAST WE HAVE MADE SOME EFFORT TO RECRUIT THROUGH PTAS BY SENDING STUFF OUT TO THE BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHTS AND I HAVE TO SAY WE HAVEN'T REALLY GOTTEN A LOT OF FEEDBACK FROM THAT OR A LOT OF RESPONSE AND I KNOW THAT IT IS HARD TO FIND PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN SPECIFIC NICHES OF TOPICS, YOU KNOW, LIKE BUDGET AND -- VERSUS SEAC OR TAG .

SO WE'RE OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS BECAUSE WE ARE NOT SURE HOW TO HANDLE THEM.

I DO THINK THAT PRINCIPALS ARE AN EXCELLENT RESOURCE BECAUSE THEY'VE PROVIDED PEOPLE IN THE PAST WITH MULTIPLE COMMITTEES SO THAT WOULD BE A GOOD WAY TO START I THINK.

>> I WAS GOING TO STATE, THE LAST TWO SUMMERS IN AUGUST AND THOSE ARE THE SUMMERS

[00:25:07]

WHERE I WAS CHAIRING, BUT I SENT A PERSONAL LETTER TO EACH PRINCIPAL AND LET THEM KNOW IF THERE WAS A REPRESENTATIVE ON THE TAG COMMITTEE FROM THEIR SCHOOL AND THEN ALSO ASKING FOR REFERRALS AND SPECIFICALLY CALLING OUT CERTAIN SCHOOLS.

I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HAVE REPRESENTATION AND THEN I LISTED THE SCHOOLS WHERE WE DIDN'T HAVE REPRESENTATION AND ACTUALLY TW COMMITTEE MEMBERS THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE FROM THAT -- CAME FROM THAT PROCESS AND, I MEAN, I DIDN'T REALLY EVER GET A RESPONSE FROM THE MAJORITY OF PRINCIPALS BUT I GOT A RESPONSE WITH A REFERRAL SO THAT WAS GOOD.

I DON'T KNOW WHETHER IT WAS ANNOYING TO THEM OR NOT BUT I FIGURE I MIGHT AS WELL TRY.

THAT WAS JUST ONE THING.

>> I WOULD LIKE TO SAY TOO THE COMMENT MADE EARLIER ABOUT I THINK PEOPLE THAT ARE LOOKING AT JOINING WANT TO KNOW THE VALUE OF THE ADVOCACY OF THE COMMITTEE AND IS THE SCHOOL BOARD, YOU KNOW, THE -- IS IT PROVIDING VALUE AND SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT ROLE MAKING YOU COULD PLAY IN THAT BUT -- OR IF THERE MIGHT BE TIMES DURING SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS WHERE THERE'S SOME FEATURE OF THE ADVOCACY FEATURE OR NOW, AND ENSURE THE GENERAL PUBLIC IS AWARE THAT THE BOARD IS LISTENING TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEES.

>> THAT'S A GOOD POINT.

SO I KIND OF -- WRAPPING MY HEAD AROUND TWO THINGS.

ONE, I DO THINK, YOU KNOW, WHEN I CAME ON TO SEAC, WHICH I THINK MEMBERSHIP WAS STRUGGLING A LITTLE BIT, I DID USE -- TRIED TO LIKE USE THE BOARD TO RECRUIT, SO I THINK, YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT FAR FETCHED FOR, YOU KNOW, BOARD MEMBERS TO RECOMMEND OR SEARCH FOR OR, YOU KNOW, BRING IN PEOPLE TO THE DIFFERENT COMMITTEES.

THAT MAY ABSOLUTELY BE ONE OF THE BEST WAYS ESPECIALLY FOR, YOU KNOW, GROUPS THAT AREN'T NECESSARILY AS, YOU KNOW, QUOTE/UNQUOTE, I DON'T KNOW, SHINY TO THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

AND I'VE GOTTEN -- I KNOW DR. RIEF IS ON HERE BUT, YOU KNOW, SEAC, NEW MEMBERSHIP THROUGH SEAC HAS COME THROUGH BOARD MEMBERS WHICH WAS REALLY HELPFUL.

AND THAT'S DEFINITELY AN AVENUE.

I THINK I LOST MY SECOND THOUGHT.

BUT, YES, SO THAT'S DEFINITELY SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

AND THEN, YOU KNOW, WE CAN -- IN TERMS OF THE QUESTIONS WE'RE ASKING ON THE QUESTIONNAIRES, AND SUSAN, IS IT A GENERIC QUESTIONNAIRE OR DIFFERENT BASED ON THE COMMITTEES?

>> IT'S NOT DIFFERENT BASED ON THE COMMITTEE.

WE CAN MAKE IT DIFFERENT WITHIN THE SAME SO IF YOU SELECTED BUDGET, YOU WOULD GET THESE QUESTIONS.

IF YOU SELECTED SEAC.

IT'S A LITTLE MORE COMPLICATED BUT IT CAN BE DONE.

WE CAN TRY IT.

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS SPECIFIC FOR YOUR COMMITTEE WE CAN GIVE IT A TRY AND TRY TO THROW IN -- EVEN IF WE KEPT THE QUESTIONS THAT ARE THERE BUT THEN THERE WAS QUESTIONS YOU COULD ADD.

WE CAN REVISE THE QUESTIONS THERE.

WE'RE NOT ADVERSE TO DOING THAT.

WE'LL LOOK AT IT AND SEE WHAT WE CAN DO WITH THE ONES WE HAVE BUT THEN IF YOU HAVE FOR BUDGET, WHAT FISCAL EXPERIENCE DO YOU HAVE OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT.

WE WANT TO BE CAREFUL BY ASKING TOO MANY QUESTIONS THAT IT MIGHT SCARE SOMEONE AWAY WHO IS INTERESTED BUT MAY FEEL LIKE THEY'RE NOT AS EXPERIENCED AS THE QUESTIONS LEAD THEM TO BELIEVE THEY NEED TO BE.

>> RIGHT.

>> BUT SEND ME YOUR QUESTIONS.

I'LL SEE WHAT WE CAN DO.

WE'LL TRY IT.

>> IN TERMS OF SORT OF THE VALUE SUCCESS ADD PIECE, AND THERE'S OTHER BOARD MEMBERS ON HERE SO MAYBE THEY WANT TO CHIME IN, BUT I KNOW PARTICULARLY FOR ME USUALLY

[00:30:04]

-- AND I THINK FOR ALL OF US, OUR ROLES AS LIAISONS OFTEN LEAD TO PARTICULAR TARGETED QUESTIONS ON THE DAIS.

OFTENTIMES I KNOW I MIGHT NOT BE SAYING WELL, YOU KNOW, IN SEAC THIS IS THE QUESTION AMONG THE PARENTS BUT I'M BRINGING THAT PERSPECTIVE AS A METHOD TO MY QUESTIONING.

BECAUSE EVERY CONVERSATION THAT WE HAVE IN THAT COMMITTEE STAYS WITH ME AS I'M LISTENING TO THEM OR RECEIVING INFORMATION.

BUT IF PEOPLE FEEL LIKE THERE'S SORT OF -- WE WOULD BENEFIT FROM A MORE FORMALIZED WAY OF SHARING THAT INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC, I'M CERTAINLY OPEN TO THAT.

ANY OTHER -- I KNOW MS. GREENE IS ON HERE.

I DON'T KNOW SHE OFTEN SAYS, YOU KNOW, THE SPECIFIC, YOU KNOW, POINTS OF HER COMMITTEE BUT...

>> THANK YOU.

CHAIR MEAGAN ALDERTON, EACH COMMITTEE HAS ITS DIFFERENCES.

IT'S KIND OF SPECIALIZED WITH THE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME BECAUSE YOU WANT TO HAVE PEOPLE THAT HAVE HISTORY WITH ATHLETICS IN ALEXANDRIA AND SOMETIMES IT'S HARD TO FIND THAT WITH SUCH A TRANSIENT COMMUNITY.

YOU GET PEOPLE EXCITED ABOUT ATHLETICS BUT THEY DON'T HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE THAT WE PARTICULARLY NEED SO IT'S DIFFICULT TO RECRUIT FOR THIS COMMITTEE.

I PEOPLE AND IT'S JUST NOT EASY AND THEN TO HOLD ONTO THEM IS EVEN MORE DIFFICULT SO I THINK IT'S SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE A BROADER CONVERSATION WITHIN THE SCHOOL BOARD, MEAGAN, ON THINGS THAT WE CAN DO.

>> OKAY.

DR. RIEF?

>> I GUESS I WOULD ADD I THINK -- I THINK THE POINT ABOUT TYING INTO THE STRATEGIC PLAN IS REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE THAT'S -- ONE OF THE CONCERNS I'VE ALWAYS HAD IS LIKE HOW IS THE BOARD INTERACTING WITH THE COMMITTEES, YOU KNOW, AND HOW ARE WE GETTING DIRECTION AND GETTING FEEDBACK AND I THINK THAT THE SCOPE OF WORK AND THE ANNUAL REPORT IS HELPFUL.

I'D LOVE TO HAVE MORE INTERACTION BUT I DO THINK THAT THE BOARD, YOU KNOW, REALLY OUTLINED OUR PRIORITIES IN THE STRATEGIC PLAN AND SO IF YOU CAN THINK ABOUT HOW THAT PLAN RELATES TO YOUR COMMITTEE THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL AND THEN I DO THINK THE CTE ADVISORY COMMITTEE, YOU KNOW, IT'S HELPFUL HAVING THOSE KIND OF LAID OUT WHAT KIND OF REPRESENTATION WE'RE LOOKING FOR ON THE COMMITTEE AND I THINK MAYBE SOME OF THE OTHER COMMITTEES COULD DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

WITH CITY COUNCIL THEY DO SOMETHING SIMILAR TOO WHERE THEY WANT A CERTAIN TIME OF REPRESENTATION.

THEY CAN HAVE GENERAL MEMBERS BUT THEN ALSO REALLY TARGETING AND SO MAYBE IF THE COMMITTEES REALLY SPELLED THAT OUT THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL.

WITH THE CTE COMMITTEE I NOTICED DR. JACOBS REACHED OUT TO HAVE SOMEONE FROM L SERVICES AS WELL AS SPECIALIZED INSTRUCTION AND THAT CREATES MORE SYNERGY WHERE FOR EXAMPLE CTE AND SPECIAL EDUCATION, MAYBE THEY'RE NOT ALWAYS COMMUNICATING WITH ONE ANOTHER.

SO I THINK THESE COMMITTEES CAN BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE OUT WHAT THE ORGANIZATIONS ARE DOING.

FOR EXAMPLE, CHAD, YOU COULD HAVE SOMEBODY WHO REPRESENTS STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES OR WHO REPRESENTS ENGLISH LEARNERS, THOSE TYPES OF THINGS OR TARGETING PARTICULAR SCHOOLS, YOU KNOW, A TITLE ONE SCHOOL OR HOWEVER WE WANT TO CREATE THE MAKE UP.

THAT WAY IF WE ARE KIND OF ADVERTISING OUT FOR THE POSITIONS OR TRYING TO RECRUIT FOR THOSE POSITIONS THEN WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT MORE DEFINED TARGET OF WHAT TYPES OF INDIVIDUALS WE'RE LOOKING FOR.

>> THANK YOU, DR. RIEF.

BILL IS FOR THE ON HERE BUT I REALLY AM SORT OF INTERESTED IN REALLY USING PTAC TO SORT OF -- I THINK IT MIGHT EVEN HELP IF WE HAVE PARAMETERS AROUND WHO IS PTA MEMBERSHIP.

THAT'S SORT OF A DIRECT LINE TO DIVERSIFYING I THINK OUR COMMITTEES BECAUSE WE HAD TALKED ABOUT IN SEAC SOME SCHOOLS HAVE A SPECIAL EDUCATION LIAISON THAT'S

[00:35:01]

JUST A PART OF THEIR PTA.

THOSE INDIVIDUALS CAN BE A DIRECT LINE TO SEAC MEMBERSHIP AND THE SCHOOLS KNOW THEIR, I DON'T KNOW, I WOULD SAY THE SCHOOLS KNOW THEIR FAMILIES BETTER THAN I DO AND SO, YOU KNOW, GIVEN THAT SORT OF LEVERAGE TO THE SCHOOLS AND HOW THEY -- IN TERMS OF PTA MAYBE YUM I THINK WOULD ALSO BE VERY HELPFUL AS WELL.

SO THAT'S ANOTHER LINE I THINK THAT WE PROBABLY SHOULD EXPLORE AND I'M HAPPY TO TALK TO BILL ABOUT THAT.

OKAY.

WELL, IF THERE AREN'T ANY OTHER COMMENTS -- OH, YES.

>> SORRY.

ONE MORE I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED IN THE MEETING AND YOU MIGHT ALL BE THINKING IT TOO AS WE MOVE ON FROM THIS SUBJECT.

IT IS QUITE POSSIBLE THAT SOME OF OUR INDIVIDUAL PTAS AND PTAC WILL EXPERIENCE SOME ATTRITION AS FAMILIES HAVE UNDERGONE AN AWFUL LOT OF STRESS AND AN AWFUL LOT OF FATIGUE DURING THIS TIME WHEN WE'RE BEING EVERYTHING INSIDE OUR HOME, TEACHERS, COUNCILORS, WORKFORCE AND IT MAY BE WE'RE EXPERIENCING A COMMUNITY THAT DOESN'T HAVE A LOT OF GAS IN ITS TINK TO DO VOLUNTEER WORK OR MIGHT BE EXPERIENCING SOME COMMUNITY THAT HAS SOME DEGREE OF FRUSTRATION AROUND THE STATE OF ACPS.

I SEE THAT ON SOME OF THE SOCIAL -- THE COMMENTS ON FACEBOOK PAGES, ET CETERA, TO ASSUME THAT EVERYBODY IS REALLY SATISFIED AND READY TO DIG IN AND PUT THEIR VOLUNTEER HOURS TOWARDS ACPS, YOU KNOW, IT MIGHT NOT BE A SAFE ASSUMPTION, IF THEY HAVE THE HOURS WE NEED TO OBVIOUSLY MAKE SURE THEIR TIME IS VALUED AND VALUABLE SO THE ALIGNMENT TO THE STRATEGIC PLAN IS A GREAT IDEA.

I APPRECIATE THAT.

BUT I THINK WE MIGHT ALSO JUST HAVE A TALENT POOL THAT IS WEARY SO WE SHOULD WATCH WHETHER WE ARE EXPERIENCING ATTRITIO AND HOW WE HAVE PARENTS SHOW UP TO PARTICIPATE IN THEIR SCHOOLS.

>> OKAY.

THANK YOU.

ONE LITTLE COMMENT.

I APOLOGIZE IF I MISSED THIS ONE.

I HAD TO STEP AWAY.

IT'S BEEN ON MY MIND AND I WAS GOING TO REACH OUT TO MY BOARD MEMBER OR YOU, MEAGAN, AND ASK YOU ABOUT THIS.

I'VE BEEN ON THE COMMITTEE ITSELF FOR FOUR YEARS AND YOU MENTIONED THAT YEAR-END REPORTS THAT WE PRODUCE EVERY YEAR AND WE'RE GETTING READY TO START WORKING IN SUBCOMMITTEES VERY TARGETED THIS YEAR ON CERTAIN ISSUES RELATED TO ADVANCED ACADEMICS AND YEAR PLANNING TO SUBMIT THAT, YOU KNOW, AS PART OF OUR REPORT.

BUT I NEVER GET ANY FEEDBACK FROM THE BOARD ON MY SCOPE OF WORK OR -- AND I THINK WE'VE ACTUALLY SPENT SUBSTANTIAL TIME, REACHED OUT TO, YOU KNOW, PROMINENT LEADERS NATIONALLY ON ISSUES RELATED TO GIFTED EDUCATION AND THEN WE'VE REPORTED THAT TO THE SCHOOL BOARD BUT WE DON'T GET A LOOP BACK, LIKE WAS IT READ? DID YOU AGREE WITH THE CONCLUSIONS WE MADE? WOULD YOU CHALLENGE US TO DO SOMETHING, YOU KNOW, FURTHER NEXT YEAR? AND I'M NOT ACTUALLY SURE THAT THERE'S A MECHANISM FOR THAT KIND OF PROCESS SO I'M JUST GOING TO PUT THAT OUT THERE AS, YOU KNOW, I THINK AN OPPORTUNITY MOVING FORWARD TO, YOU KNOW, MAKE THE COMMITTEES MORE HELPFUL IN GENERAL.

>> YEAH.

I SEE DR. RIEF WITH HER HAND UP.

> GREAT SUGGESTION, LAURA.

RIGHT NOW THE WAY THAT WE DO IT IS WE JUST PUT THE THINGS ON THE CONSENT CALENDAR AT A BOARD MEETING BUT WE COULD MAKE THEM.

>> WE COULD PULL THEM.

>> MAKE THEM AN ITEM AND DISCUSS ONE OR TWO, YOU KNOW, AT A MEETING SO THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY, YOU KNOW, FOR THE COMMITTEE TO HEAR OUR FEEDBACK BASED ON THE DOCUMENTS.

SO I THINK THAT'S A GREAT IDEA.

>> YEAH.

THAT'S EXACTLY IT.

RIGHT NOW THOSE ITEMS GO IN THE CONSENT CALENDAR SO THEY'RE BEING, YOU KNOW, READ BUT WHEN ITEMS ARE ON THE CONSENT CALENDAR, UNLESS WE PULL THEM THEN WE JUST -- OUR VOTE TO ADOPT THE CONSENT CALENDAR IS THE APPROVAL OF THOSE PLANS SO, YOU KNOW, WE COULD -- AND SUSAN, WE CAN TALK ABOUT THIS AS AN AGENDA SETTING.

ONE OF THE THINGS WE COULD DO IS JUST, YOU KNOW, HAVE THOSE -- THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE ACTION ITEMS OUTSIDE OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR BUT IF

[00:40:02]

IT UP FOR DISCUSSION INSTEAD OF PEOPLE HAVING TO PULL THEM OFF OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR.

THAT'S A GOOD SUGGESTION.

WE CAN TALK ABOUT THAT AT AN AGENDA SETTING, SUSAN.

>>

>> RIGHT.

>> THANK YOU FOR THAT.

ALL RIGHT.

SO PROCESS.

I THINK WE'VE KIND OF TALKED ABOUT LIAISON RULES.

WE WANT TO GO OVER JUST ZOOM REQUIREMENTS AND FOIA.

I KNOW THE QUESTION CAME UP, COULD WE DO BREAKOUT ROOMS OVER ZOOM.

AND I THINK THE CONCERN ABOUT THAT IS YOU CAN'T MAKE ALL OF THE BREAKOUT ROOMS PUBLIC.

>> CORRECT.

OVER THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS, AND I JUST POSTED THIS THIS MORNING TO THIS MEETING, AND I'LL EMAIL THIS OUT AS WELL AS THE UPDATED ADVISORY COMMITTEE MANUAL, BUT SO AS YOU ALL KNOW, YOU ARE WHAT'S CALLED A PUBLIC BODY, THE COMMUNITY IS A PUBLIC BODY, AS DESCRIBED BY THE VIRGINIA CODE AND UNDER FOIA, ONE OF THE IMPORTANT THINGS IS THAT WHAT YOU DO ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD, YOUR DISCUSSION, ALL THAT IS MEANT TO BE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC.

THE ONLY WAY TO DO THAT IS BY RECORDING YOUR MEETINGS CURRENTLY BECAUSE THERE IS NO IN-PERSON MEETINGS AND AS A RESULT YOU ARE KIND OF LIMITED IN HOW YOU RUN YOUR MEETINGS IN THAT THEY CAN'T JUST BE A GROUP OF PEOPLE PEOPLING OFF TO THE SIDE.

WE HAVE TO RUN THE ZOOM SO WE CAN REPORT, EXCUSE MY DOG SNORING, AND IT DOES MAKE IT A LITTLE BIT DIFFICULT TO DO BUSINESS.

THERE IS ONE QUESTION I WANT TO GET ANSWERED ABOUT WORKING ON A GOOGLE DOCUMENT.

IN MY MIND THAT'S A MEETING AND THAT'S PROBABLY NOT SLIDE BUT I WANT TO CHECK AND SEE IF THERE'S A WAY TO FIGURE THAT OUT SO THAT SOME OF THESE COMMITTEES CAN DO THEIR WORK OUTSIDE OF THE COMMITTEE WITHOUT FORMING ANOTHER MEETING OR WE JUST HAVE TO MAKE TIME FOR THEM TO RECORD THE MEETING AND ALL THAT.

BUT IN THIS DOCUMENT, WHAT I THINK IS REALLY IMPORTANT, THERE'S SOME GUIDELINES ABOUT SEND IT IN BY, IF THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE MEETING, AND THEN MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC CAN JOIN ON THE OTHER SIDE.

YOU CAN ALWAYS ALLOW THEM TO TALK.

THE ONLY REASON I SAY THAT ABOUT THE PUBLIC IS I HAVE SEEN A MEETING WHERE THERE WAS A PUBLIC MEMBER IN THE MEETING AND THEY KIND OF JUST TALKED WHENEVER THEY WANTED AND THEY WEREN'T REALLY PART OF THE COMMITTEE SO YOU WANT TO KEEP THEM A LITTLE BIT IN CHECK BECAUSE THEY HAVE ALL THE CONTROLS TO TURN THEIR MICROPHONE ON AND THEIR CAMERA AND ALL THAT SO WE DO WANT TO BE CAREFUL WITH THAT.

WE'RE CAREFUL WITH THAT AT THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS AS WELL.

AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE, BREAKOUT SESSIONS ARE NOT ALLOWED AND WE DO POST RECORDINGS ON THE WEBSITE.

READ THIS SECTION ON HOW FOIA.

IT'S HOW IT -- I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND WHY FOIA IS IMPORTANT AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING ACTUALLY CAN BE ASKED FOR, ASKED TO BE SEEN, WHATEVER, BUT ALSO JUST SOME GUIDELINES FOR YOU.

SO THAT YOU KNOW WHICH PART APPLIES TO YOU.

I KNOW ALL OF YOU READING THE CODE OF VIRGINIA.

THIS IS SORT OF A VERY CONDENSED VERSION OF THE STUFF YOU WOULD NEED TO KNOW FOR YOUR COMMITTEE.

I'LL EMAIL THIS OUT AFTER THE MEETING TO EVERYONE.

BUT IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, BY ALL MEANS, LET ME KNOW.

YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN DOING A PRETTY GOOD JOB WITH -- WE'LL GET ONTO THIS.

THERE IS A DELIVERABLE SECTION ON THE AGENDA AND I THINK MOST OF YOU HAVE BEEN DOING PRETTY WELL WITH MINUTES FOR YOUR MEETINGS AND THEN SCOPES OF WORK, I THINK WE HAVE ALL THE TOPICS NOW, EXCEPT FOR ONE COMMITTEE WHO HASN'T REALLY BEEN MEETING SO THEY DON'T HAVE THAT INFORMATION, BUT, YOU KNOW, AT THE END OF YEAR, THE REPORT IS COMING UP.

ONE THING I WOULD ADVISE FOR YOU, THE YEAR-END REPORTS, AND I'VE GONE OFF AGENDA, THAT WILL YOU DO THEM AT THE END OF YEAR.

I KNOW SOME COMMITTEES WAIT FOR STUFF BUT I THINK YOU SHOULD WRITE YOUR END YEAR

[00:45:08]

REPORT ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE A CHAIR WHO IS STEPPING ASIDE AND THEN IT CAN STILL BE REVISED IF YOU'RE WAITING FOR DOCUMENTATION OR TEST RESULTS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

ANYWAY, I WENT OFF TOPIC.

>> THANK YOU, SUSAN.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ROLES OF THE LIAISONS? DOES EVERYBODY FEEL LIKE THEIR LIAISONS ARE WORKING OUT FOR THEM? DOING WHAT THEY NEED TO DO?

>> IS THERE AN EXPECTATION THAT A LIAISON WILL ATTENDED A CERTAIN PERCENTAGE OF MEETINGS?

>> MY UNDERSTANDING IS WE ATTEND EVERY MEETING.

>> WHAT IF THAT'S NOT HAPPEN HAG.

>> CAN YOU LET ME KNOW OFF LINE AND THEN I CAN MEET BACK WITH THAT PERSON, YEAH, BECAUSE IT'S HARD TO LIASE IF YOU CAN'T.

>> SOMETIMES WE SCHEDULE SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS ON THE SAME EVENINGS DUE TO LIKE BUDGET CALENDARS AND THINGS LIKE THAT AND IT'S MY DOG.

>> THAT'S USUALLY PTA.

I KNOW WE'VE HAD THAT ISSUE AT PTA MEETINGS.

>> I THINK THIS PARTICULAR YEAR WE HAD SCHEDULED ALL OF OUR MEETINGS BEFORE WE HAD MEETINGS FOR ADVISORY COMMITTEES MEETINGS.

>> IF YOU CAN GET BACK TO ME I CAN TROUBLESHOOT THAT, LAURA.

>> MEAGAN, MY COMMITTEE WAS -- ATTEND EVERY MEETING.

>> SHE IS AN AWESOME REPRESENTATIVE FOR THAT COMMITTEE.

>> THANK YOU, SUSAN.

>> I KNOW YOU WANT ME THERE.

>> YES.

I APPRECIATE IT.

YES.

INDEED.

>> KAREN, YOU SAID YOU HAD A GENERAL QUESTION.

>> YES.

WHEN THERE'S A CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP AT THE SCHOOL BOARD DO YOU THEN CHANGE THE LIAISONS OR DO YOU HOW DOES THAT WORK?

>> I HATE TO SAY THAT, IT'S AT THE PLEASURE OF THE CHAIR, BUT IT IS KIND OF.

I WILL SAY MY THOUGHT IN PARTICULAR IS NOT TO SHAKE UP RELATIONSHIPS UNNECESSARILY SO I'LL GIVE AN EXAMPLE.

I'M THE LIAISON FOR SEAC.

TRADITIONALLY THE CHAIR HAS BEEN A LIAISON FOR PTAC, ABOUT YOU GIVEN MY ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIP WITH SEAC AND CINDY'S RELATIONSHIP WITH PTAC , IF IT'S NOT BROKE, DON'T FIX IT.

AND, YOU KNOW, 16 CINDY HAS A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH PTAC, YOU KNOW, AND I THINK CINDY HART VALUES MY PARTICIPATION IN SEAC.

I HOPE, CINDY.

>> THAT IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE.

VERY MUCH.

> FROM COMMITTEES FOR THE SAKE OF CIRCUMSTANCE, I GUESS.

SO, NO, AS LONG AS PEOPLE, A LIAISON CAN HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH A PARTICULAR ORGANIZATION I THINK THAT HELPS IT FUNCTION BETTER SO IT IS KIND OF AT MY PLEASURE UNLESS SOMEBODY IS LIKE DYING TO MOVE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE.

THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION.

I WOULDN'T DARE JACINTA AWAY FROM THE ATHLETIC

>> SHE HAS TO PUT UP WITH ALL OF THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS.

SHE'S DOING A GREAT JOB.

>> WE'RE LOOKING TO RECRUIT WOMEN.

IF ANYONE KNOWS ANY WOMEN INTERESTED IN THE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> ONE QUESTION.

WILL THERE BE ANY TRANSITION PLAN? I THINK AS WE TALK ABOUT EQUITY AND INCLUSION, ONE OF THE GOOD THINGS IS ACTUALLY ZOOM MEETINGS ARE MUCH MORE EQUITABLE FOR PEOPLE TO ATTEND BECAUSE YOU DON'T

[00:50:04]

HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT CHILD CARE OR OTHER ISSUES OR PARENTS WITH DISABILITIES THAT CAN ACCESS THINGS.

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL BOARD'S TAKE ON LIKE, YOU KNOW, TRANSITION TO IN-PERSON OPERATIONS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT? WILL THIS BE A THE WAY THAT WE CONVENE GOING FORWARD OR YOU ALL HAVEN'T MADE A DECISION OR THEY'RE LIKE MILESTONES ALONG THE WAY? I JUST WOULD HOPE THAT WE WOULD CONSIDER AGAIN, YOU KNOW, FROM THE EQUITY LENS OF LIKE IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE, MAKING IT EASIER FOR THEM TO PARTICIPATE, DEFINITELY THAT, VERSUS HAVING TO GET TO VW AND GET THERE AND SIT IN DESKS.

>> THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.

WE ARE.

>>

>> I CAN TAKE THIS QUESTION IF YOU WANT.

>> YES.

GO AHEAD.

>> WE WENT THROUGH FOIA TRAINING AND THIS IS UNDER THE PURVIEW OF THE VIRGINIA CODE AND THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT.

WHEN WE WERE IN THAT TRAINING THEY DID NOTE THAT WITH ALL OF THE ZOOM GOING ON THAT THERE MIGHT BE SOME MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO USE ZOOM INSTEAD OF MEETING IN PERSON AND I DON'T KNOW THAT THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN LIKE NEXT WEEK BUT LIKE AS LONG AS WE HAVE THOSE RULES FOR THE VIRGINIA CODE WE HAVE TO ABIDE BY THOSE AND THE FOIA IS STRICT AND THEY DO FINE US WHEN WE DISOBEY THEIR RULES SO WE HAVE TO KIND OF STICK WITH THE LAW.

>> I THINK OF SEVERAL THINGS HERE.

THERE'S CURRENTLY DISCUSSION IN THE VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY ABOUT THIS.

THEY'VE MADE IT A CROSS-OVER NOW ACTUALLY SO IT WOULD BE GOOD TO CATCH UP.

THAT HAS BEEN A POINT THAT HAS BEEN BROUGHT UP ABOUT BODIES IN PARTICULAR IN THE STATE THAT, YOU KNOW, IF WE'RE GOING TO BE MORE EQUITABLE WE NEED TO HAVE ADJUSTMENTS TO REQUIREMENTS AROUND MEETING PARTICIPATION SIMPLY BECAUSE, FOR EXAMPLE, IF WE WANT TO HAVE MORE WOMEN INVOLVED, OFTEN THE BURDEN OF CHILD CARE AND ALL THAT STUFF LIES ON THEM AND WOMEN CAN BE MORE, YOU KNOW, FLEXIBLE IF THEIR MEETING PARTICIPATION ARE FLEXIBLE.

AS THEY GO THROUGH THE GENERAL SOW ASSEMBLY HOPEFULLY I THINK THAT WILL SORT OF TRANSFER BACK TO US OBVIOUSLY AS WELL WHICH CAN TRANSFER TO OUR ADVISORY COMMITTEES.

IN TERMS OF THE BOARD -- THE BOARD IS IN DISCUSSIONS RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE'RE GOING TO START TO TRANSFER, IF WE'RE GETTING KIDS BACK INTO BUILDINGS, THEN THE BOARD NEEDS TO LEAD BY EXAMPLE AND SO WE'RE NOW IN THE MIDST OF TALKING ABOUT WHAT OUR MEETINGS ARE GOING TO LOOK LIKE CONSIDERING ALL OF THESE REQUIREMENTS AND SO WE'RE IN THAT PROCESS NOW.

SO WE'RE WORKING ON, YOU KNOW, IN-PERSON MEETINGS IN MARCH BUT WE STILL HAVE TO WORK THROUGH LIKE WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE? WE'RE STILL IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY SO CAN WE HAVE, YOU KNOW, SOME BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT AND SOME VIRTUAL, THAT KIND OF THING WE'RE WORKING OUT SO THOSE THINGS WILL BE HELPFUL, AS YOU SEE HOW WE OPERATE WE CAN TRANSFER SOME OF THAT OVER TO OUR COMMITTEES.

>> THANK YOU.

I APOLOGIZE.

I DO NEED TO SIGN OFF FOR ANOTHER MEETING.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR CONVENING US TODAY.

THANK YOU.

>> I HAVE A 10:00 AS WELL.

I APOLOGIZE.

I'VE GOT TO GO.

GOOD-BYE, MR. EISENHOWER.

>> THANK YOU.

>> I HAVE A 10:00 AS WELL.

I'M NOT SURE IF YOU ALL NEED US FOR ANYTHING RIGHT NOW.

>> NO.

YOU ARE FINE.

THANK YOU FOR COMING.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> MEAGAN, I'M DOING A WALK-THROUGH OF A COUPLE OF SCHOOLS TODAY TO PLAN WHERE THEIR HEALTH ANNEX OR ISO ROOMS ARE.

>> HAVE FUN.

>> THANK YOU.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING ME AT THIS MEETING.

>> YES.

ABSOLUTELY.

>> GOOD MORNING.

I HAVE TO DROP OFF AS WELL.

IT WAS SO GREAT MEETING WITH YOU ALL.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

THANK YOU FOR JOINING.

>> THANK YOU.

>> I KNOW FOLKS HAVE TO LEAVE BUT I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS FROM THE LAST MEETING REGARDING PUBLIC COMMENT EVEN IF OTHERS STILL LEAVE.

WE TALKED ABOUT, YOU KNOW, AS WE REACH OUT WE ARE STARTING TO GET MORE PUBLIC COMMENT WHICH IS WONDERFUL BECAUSE WE WANT TO HEAR FROM PARENTS AND AT THIS POINT WE

[00:55:01]

STILL HAD ENOUGH TIME TO GET ALL OF OUR SPEAKERS IN BUT I WANTED -- WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF FORMALIZING PUBLIC COMMENTS, OUR GUIDELINES, AND TWO QUESTIONS THAT I STILL -- I'M NOT SURE -- IS IF WE COULD GET A FORM FOR SUBMITTING PUBLIC COMMENTS LIKE THE SCHOOL BOARD DOES.

I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS AN ISSUE FOR OTHER ADVISORY COMMITTEES OR NOT BUT IF SO IF THERE MIGHT BE JUST A GENERAL GUIDELINE FOR PUBLIC COMMENTING I'M GUESSING FOR THE TAG COMMITTEE ALSO THIS MIGHT BE AN AREA OF NEED BUT A FORM COULD HELP GIST IN TERMS OF DETERMINING THE ORDER OF PUBLIC COMMENTERS.

AT THIS POINT PEOPLE JUST SHOW WE HAD SIX PEOPLE THAT WOULD OVERFILL OUR TIME.

WE ONLY GIVE 15 MINUTES, THREE MINUTES EACH.

IF WE COULD GET A FORM IF THAT'S NEEDED AND IF NOT HOW T TO PRIORITIZE IN-PERSON SPEAKERS.

IS IT WHEN YOU SIGN ON THE ZOOM? THEY USED TO SIGN UP ON A PIECE OF PAPER WHEN THEY WALKED IN BUT WE'RE NOT DOING THAT NOW SO JUST A BIT OF GUIDANCE OR IDEAS ON HOW TO SET UP THIS PROCESS.

>> WE ACTUALLY DID SET UP A FORM FOR YOU REVISIONS TO IT.

>> BECAUSE AT THIS POINT WE HAVE PEOPLE EMAIL MEAN AT THE SEAC EMAIL ADDRESS, WHICH IS FINE.

BUT IF WE HAD A FORM ON OUR WEBSITE THAT WOULD BE IDEAL.

>> THAT WOULD STILL FEED INTO THE SEAC.

YES, I'LL SEND IT TO YOU.

>> GOOD.

THANK YOU.

THAT MAY BE PERTINENT FOR OTHER COMMITTEES AS WELL.

>> ACTUALLY NOW THAT COMMITTEES -- LIKE DURING THIS PANDEMIC AND THE FOIA RULES, EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO ALLOW PUBLIC COMMENTS.

YOU CAN DO IT IN MANY WAYS.

YOU CAN DO IT AS WRITTEN PUBLIC COMMENTS AND YOU CAN DO IT AS IN-PERSON PUBLIC COMMENTS.

THE WAY OUR ADVISORY COMMITTEES ARE ADVERTISED ON THE WEB PAGE AND IN THE CALENDAR, THE LINK IS ACTUALLY TO INSIDE THE MEETING IN ORDER TO ALLOW YOU TO HAVE ATTENDEES AND ONE THINGS ATTENDEES CAN DO WHICH HAS WORKED AT SOME COMMITTEES IS WHEN THEY GET TO THE MEETING, IF THEY WANT TO SPEAK YOU CAN HAVE THEM RAISE THEIR HAND.

IT ACTUALLY PUTS THEM IN ORDER KNOW, INDICATED THEY WOULD -- SO YOU COULD DO THAT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MEETING AND JUST, YOU KNOW -- AND THEY CAN HEAR YOU AT ALL TIMES ONCE WE HIT THE START BUTTON.

>> YOU'RE SAYING WHEN THEY COME IN YOU CAN ASK THEM TO RAISE THEIR HAND IN THEY'RE INTERESTED IN MAKING A PUBLIC COMMENTS AND IT'S LISTED IN PRIORITY OF WHEN THEY RAISE THEIR HAND?

>> EXACTLY.

>> THAT'S SIMPLE ENOUGH.

I THINK THE SIMPLER THE BETTER, HONESTLY.

>> AND THEN THE FORM CAN BE USED FOR WRITTEN PUBLIC COMMENTS WHICH WE CAN POST TO THE AGENDA AS WELL.

>> IT'S UP TO US IF WE READ WRITTEN COMMENTS.

>> I DON'T KNOW IF YOU NECESSARILY HAVE TO READ THEM PER SE BECAUSE THEY WILL BE POSTED BUT YOU CAN COMMENT THAT YOU RECEIVED A COMMENT ON THIS TOPIC AND, YOU KNOW, MAYBE IF SOMEONE -- IT'S KIND OF AWKWARD TO RESPOND TO TOPICS WHEN YOU GET THEM IN PERSON BECAUSE YOU DON'T NECESSARILY WANT TO RESPOND WITH THE WRONG ANSWER SO THAT'S MY ONE RECOMMENDATION.

WRITTEN PUBLIC COMMENTS, YOU KNOW, ACTUALLY YOU COULD FEED TO TERRY WARNER WHO CAN ALSO FEED THEM TO SOMEONE WHO CAN ANSWER THEM, YOU KNOW, UNLESS IT'S JUST ABOUT THE COMMITTEE.

YOU ARE WELCOME TO ANSWER THEM.

>> NO.

I THINK WE ARE LEANING TO NOT RESPONDING IN THE COMMITTEE AND I TALKED WITH TERRY WARNER IN THIS AND SHE SAID WE COULD PUT A STATEMENT SAYING THAT A STAFF PERSON WOULD RESPOND AS APPROPRIATE.

IT WOULD NECESSARILY BE HER BUT WHATEVER PERSON IS APPROPRIATE AND I THINK THAT MAKES SENSE.

>> JUST AS AN EXAMPLE, YOU SUBMITTED A WRITTEN COMMENT TO THE BOARD MEETING LAST WEEK AND SO I ACTUALLY JUST STATED THAT PUBLICLY THAT YOU HAD SUBMITTED A WRITTEN COMMENT ABOUT X.

>> OKAY.

SO THAT PEOPLE ARE AWARE THAT THERE'S SOMETHING THEY CAN LOOK AT.

>> UH-HUH.

LAURA?

>> THAT WAS AN EXCELLENT QUESTION.

[01:00:04]

THANK YOU, CINDY.

IT MADE ME THINK ABOUT SOMETHING WE HAVE NOT THOUGHT ABOUT IT.

WE HAVEN'T HAD AN ISSUE WITH PUBLIC COMMENTS THIS YEAR.

WHEN WE WERE IN PERSON, FROM TIME TO TIME WE WOULD HAVE A PARENT WHO HAD REACHED A POINT THERE THEY WERE TOTALLY FRUSTRATED WITH THE TAG SERVICE THEY WERE RECEIVING.

THE TAG TEACHER, THE PRINCIPAL, MAYBE PEOPLE IN THE ADMIN OFFICE AND SO THEY WOULD COME AND JUST LIKE EXPECT US TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

IT WAS ALSO OBVIOUSLY GOOD TO GET AN UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND WHAT THE EXPERIENCE WAS, BUT AS I'M THINKING MAYOR MAY BE THINGS THE DISTRICT HAS TO DEAL WITH THAT ARE OUTSIDE THE CONTROL OF THE SCHOOL BOARD, THE CITY ITSELF, AND THEN OBVIOUSLY WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR TWO YEARS TO GET REVISIONS TO THE LOCAL PLAN FOR HOW TAG SERVICES ARE DELIVERED AND MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT'S A WHOLE PROCESS WHERE THERE'S PUBLIC COMMENT, THERE'S 30 DAYS.

IT'S A VERY INVOLVED PROCESS.

HOWEVER, I WONDER WHAT SUPPORT, YOU KNOW, THE SCHOOL BOARD COULD PROVIDE OUR COMMITTEE FOR WHEN WE'RE ACTUALLY HAVING COMMITTEE MEETINGS TO PROTECT -- NOT PROTECT BUT HELP US MANAGE HAVING PAIR RENTS THAT ARE VERY FRUSTRATED BY THE LOCAL PLAN PROCESS AND COME AND TRY TO OCCUPY HOURS OF OUR TIME WHEN IT'S NOT REALLY THE VENUE OR SOMETHING THAT WE CAN ADDRESS.

I HADN'T REALLY THOUGHT THAT THROUGH AND I KNOW THE LOCAL PLAN HAS NOT BEEN REVISED SINCE '12 OR '13.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED BACK THEN.

THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE SOMETHING TO PUT ON THE RADAR TO THINK THROUGH HOW WE COULD GET SUPPORT AS A COMMITTEE TO DEAL WITH THAT.

INNING IT'S LATE SPRING OR NEXT FALL THAT WE WOULD BE IN THAT POSITION.

>> I'M ASSUMING YOU HAVE A STAFF MEMBER ATTENDING YOUR MEETINGS?

>> YEAH.

DR. MAN.

I GUESS THEY ARE CLOSE TO HIRING THE DIRECTOR FOR ADVANCED ACADEMICS AND THAT PERSON WILL BE COMING ON AND THAT PERSON'S TOP PRIORITY IS REVISING THE LOCAL PLAN.

I'M JUST THINKING.

>> THINKING IT THROUGH OUR COMMITTEE -- SORRY.

WHAT?

>> I WAS THINKING IN TERMS OF HAVING SOMEONE BE A BUFFER AND YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT HAVING SOMEONE BE A BUFFER DURING THE PUBLIC COMMENTS.

ONE OF THE KEY THINGS IS ACTUALLY -- SUSAN, YOU CAN CORRECT ME.

P COMMITTEE REALLY SHOULDN'T BE TAKING UP A LOT OF TIME COMMENTING.

>> THAT'S CORRECT.

ACTUALLY I WAS IN ANOTHER MEETING WHERE A PARENT SORT OF UNLOADED A LITTLE BIT AND THE STAFF LIAISON THERE SAID, WHY DON'T YOU HOLD OFF AND WE'LL TALK AFTER THE MEETING.

WE'LL STAY ON THE ZOOM, AND EVERYONE ELSE WAS GONE AND WE HAD STOPPED RECORDING AND BROADCASTING AND ALL THAT.

WE WERE ABLE TO HANDLE IT THAT WAY BUT THE STAFF LIAISON SHOULD REALLY STEP IN AT THAT POINT AND SAY, YOU KNOW WHAT, THIS PROBABLY ISN'T A DISCUSSION FOR THE COMMITTEE AND LET'S TAKE THIS OFF LINE.

HERE'S MY EMAIL ADDRESS OR SOMETHING OR STAY ON AFTERWARDS AND I'LL GIVE YOU MY CONTACT INFORMATION AND WE CAN TALK TOMORROW.

>> I FEEL LIKE THIS IS WHERE THE RULES COME?

>> ONE OF THE THINGS I'VE DONE IS I'VE PUSHED PUBLIC COMMENTS TO THE LAST ITEM SO THAT I CAN GET THE COMMITTEE WORK DONE AND THEN I HAVE THE PUBLIC COMMENTS.

SO MAYBE IT WILL JUST BE, YOU KNOW, OUR COMMITTEE WORKING WITH OUR STAFF FOLKS WHEN WE START TO ENTER, YOU KNOW, THIS STAGE AND JUST MAKING SURE EVERYBODY'S CLEAR ABOUT, YOU KNOW, THE GROUND RULES.

IS THERE A TIME LIMITATION WE CAN GIVE FOLKS IN PUBLIC COMMENTS?

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> I THINK THAT'S IN OUR BYLAWS.

>> YES.

>> IN THE BOARD MEETINGS WE DO GIVE PEOPLE THREE MINUTES BECAUSE PEOPLE WOULD GO ON AND ON.

AND I THINK THAT YOU NEED TO DECIDE WHAT'S A REASONABLE LIMIT FOR YOU WHEN SOMEONE SAYS SOMETHING AND IT'S 30 SECONDS AND YOU MOVE ON TO THE NEXT PERSON AND THEY'RE

[01:05:02]

GOING OVER TWO OR THREE MINUTES.

YOU CAN SAY, YOU KNOW, I THINK WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS JUST SEND US AN EMAIL.

GIVE THE SEAC EMAIL ADDRESS.

THAT'S ANOTHER THING.

IF YOU GET A PARENT WHO UNLOADS, GIVE THEM THE SEAC ADDRESS AND YOU FORWARD IT TO THE STAFF LIAISON IF THEY'RE NOT THERE OR HOWEVER, JUST WAYS.

THE PARENTS DOESN'T GO AWAY WITHOUT SOMEONE COMING BACK TO HELP THEM.

THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.

YOU HAVE TO LIMIT THEIR DISCUSSION AND YOU CAN STATE THAT AT THE BEGINNING THAT THIS IS NOT REALLY A VENUE FOR SORT OF PERSONAL -- YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW YOU SAY THAT BUT JUST, YOU KNOW, LET US KNOW WHATEVER AND THAT, YOU KNOW, DISCUSSING YOUR OWN STUDENT IS -- ESPECIALLY GIVING OUT STUDENT INFORMATION IS DISCOURAGED, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT THEM GIVING THE STUDENT'S NAME.

>> LAURA, I THINK YOU HAVE TWO THINGS ON YOUR SIDE FOR ISSUES LIKE THIS.

THE FIRST IS YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY SET A TIME LIMIT ON PUBLIC COMMENT AND PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE ARE NOT -- THEY DON'T HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF JUST, YOU KNOW, LEAPING INTO THE FULL DISCUSSION SO THE MEETING IS A MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE SO ANYONE OUTSIDE OF THE COMMITTEE, THEIR TIME IS PUBLIC COMMENT AND YOU CAN LIMIT COMMENTS ABSOLUTELY.

THE BOARD DOES THREE MINUTES.

CINDY, ARE YOU.

>> THAT'S A LONG.

>> THREE MINUTES PER PERSON AND A TOTAL OF 15 MINUTES.

THAT'S BEEN TRADITION.

THIS LAST MEETING WE DID KEEP TIME FOR THREE MINUTES BECAUSE WE HAVE FIVE PEOPLE AND WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE EVERYBODY'S COMMENTS WERE HEARD.

>> INTERESTING.

>> I'D NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT AND I LOVE IT.

>> YOU CAN STILL DO IT AT THE BEGINNING AND PEOPLE FEEL LIKE THEY CAN GET IN AND OUT.

>> RIGHT.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> I'M GLAD YOU BROUGHT THAT UP BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW EVERYBODY WASN'T AWARE OF THAT.

SO THAT'S GOOD.

>> I THINK, SUSAN, THAT WOULD BE A GREAT THING TO INCLUDE IN THE COMMITTEE HANDBOOK.

I READ IT WORD BY WORD BUT I JUST CAN'T REMEMBER RIGHT NOW.

>> I'LL CHECK.

WE CAN ADD SOME INFORMATION TO THAT AS WELL.

SO, YES, YOU MAY SET TIMES AND LIMITS EVEN TO THE NUMBER OF SPEAKERS.

IF YOU HAVE -- LIKE IF YOU SET 15 MINUTES FOR YOUR SPEAKERS AND YOU HAVE SIX SPEAKERS AND THE FIRST ONE DOESN'T TAKE UP MUCH TIME YOU CAN ALWAYS ALLOW THAT SIXTH SPEAKER TO SPEAK.

WE HAVE A SIMILAR RULE AT THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS NOW IN THAT WE ONLY ACCEPT 30 MINUTES OF SPEAKERS SO WE MAY NOT GET TO ALL OF THEM WHO SIGN UP AND WE LET THEM KNOW BUT WE HAVE YET TO GO OVER SO WE HAVEN'T HAD TO TURN ANYONE AWAY YET.

WE'VE BEEN LUCKY THAT AWAY.

>> ALL RIGHT.

I DON'T WANT TO HOLD EVERYBODY FOREVER.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS BEFORE WE LOG OFF? I THINK THIS WAS HELPFUL.

JACINTA, WHERE IS JACINTA? SHE SAID WE NEED A COMMITTEE FOR ADVISORY COMMITTEES.

>> WE DO.

AND I'LL HELP YOU WITH THAT, MEAGAN.

>> I THINK YOU ARE RIGHT, A SUBCOMMITTEE FOR THE BOARD WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL.

>> YEAH.

THERE'S SO MUCH WE NEED TO WORK ON AS FAR AS THE PROCESS IS CONCERNED.

IT'S VERY HARD.

>> IT'S HARD.

AND WITH SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS THEIR TIME IS LIMITED AND IN THE PAST WE HAD HAD COMMITTEES SOME MAKE PRESENTATIONS AT BOARD MEETINGS, BUT IN THE EFFORT TO CUT DOWN ON THE LENGTH AND TIMES OF BOARD MEETINGS, I THINK THIS ONE AREA THAT WENT SORT OF SIDEWAYS WAS ELIMINATED, BUT THAT'S SOMETHING THAT MAYBE AS YOU GET OPPORTUNITIES IN WORK SESSIONS, PERHAPS ONE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON -- THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

>> AND MAKE SMALL CHANGES AS WE GO ALONG.

>> YEAH.

EMAIL ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS.

>> ALL RIGHT.

GREAT.

WELL THANK YOU, EVERYBODY.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU FOR COMING.

SUSAN, THE MEETING IS ENDING AT 10:15 A.M.

>> I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION FOR LAURA AND THE TAG -- DID SHE CHECK OUT.

[01:10:04]

> NUMBER.

>> WHO'S THE SCHOOL BOARD LIAISON? I GUESS I'M MORE INTERESTED IN THE CENTRAL, THE ADMINISTRATOR THAT CONNECTS WITH THAT.

>> CURRENTLY THEY DON'T REALLY HAVE ONE.

ALL OF IT IS UNDER DR. MASINGKO.

GERALD MAN HAS BEEN FILLING THAT ROLE WITH THE COMMITTEE BECAUSE WHEN DONNA REALLY RETIRED THEY DIDN'T HAVE AN IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT FOR HER.

>> SOMETIMES WE IN SEAC GET COMMENTS MORE DIRECTED -- SOMETIMES WE IN SEAC GET COMMENTS.

>> RIGHT.

I'LL SEND YOU THAT INFORMATION.
